Shi Miao begins her winter break with ambitious plans but is teased by her brother, Shi Fen, for studying so hard just to score slightly higher than him. Shi Miao finds Shi Fen’s recent energetic behavior odd since the disappearance of Wan Yi, the school janitor and grandfather to their friends Wan Sui and Wan Xing. At school, Shi Fen tricks his classmates into a morning meeting, where he asks them to show support and love for the two brothers.
However, Wan Sui arrives at school acting unusually cheerful, which worries his friends, especially Shi Fen, who is convinced he is suppressing his grief. Meanwhile, Miao Miaomiao invites Shi Miao to a comic convention, but Shi Miao insists they wait until after their final exams. Later, Shi Miao discovers that Miao Miaomiao went to the convention with Wang Keke because it was the last one before the new year.
After Miao Miaomiao apologizes and offers to be her photographer for a cosplay shoot with Zhen Kaixin, Shi Miao forgives her. Determined to help Wan Sui release his emotions, Shi Fen conspires with Zhen Kaixin to make him cry. Their attempts, including a mock auction of Wan Yi's belongings at Shi Fen's house, fail to produce tears and only lead to a major fight between Shi Fen and Shi Miao.
During the argument, a tearful Shi Fen reveals he doesn't want Wan Sui to suffer in silence as he and his sister did. In private, Wan Sui finally breaks down. His brother, Wan Xing, comforts him, revealing that they must pretend to be indifferent because their mother dislikes their grandfather, believing this will ensure his safety and eventual return. The breakthrough Shi Fen was hoping for comes unexpectedly when Zhen Kaixin breaks the high score on a video game.
This devastates Wan Sui, who reveals the old score was his only happy memory with his grandfather. Wan Sui begins to cry uncontrollably, continuing even through his final exam, which forces his teacher to remove him from the class. After the exams, Shi Miao is disappointed to learn that Zhen Kaixin cannot participate in her cosplay photoshoot because he has signed up for a winter basketball camp.
As the students leave for the holiday, they are stopped for a group photo. At home, Shi Fen cheers up a dejected Shi Miao by cooking for her. Meanwhile, Wan Sui receives a letter, supposedly from his grandfather, promising a family reunion soon, and he cries with happiness. In truth, the letter was forged by Wan Xing out of love for his brother.
