Led by Xiao Huang, Zhao Ling'er and A Nu came to the Earth God Temple east of the city. Tang Yu offered a treasure bead. Soon a small mouse carried the treasure bead away. The three followed the mouse's tracks to an abandoned dyeing workshop. Jin Baye walked towards them. The three looked closely. It turned out to be a mouse spirit.

Jin Baye was very pleased with Tang Yu's gift and motioned for the three to follow him into the backyard. Li Xiaoyao and Liu Jinyuan went to the rouge shop and smelled every box of rouge, but none had the same scent they smelled at the inn. But Li Xiaoyao was thinking about Zhao Ling'er, so he asked Liu Jinyuan to help him pick out a rouge.

Liu Jinyuan also directly chose one for Lin Yueru, preparing to give it to her as soon as she was released from prison. The two left the rouge shop and passed a pleasure house. The two ordered the housekeeper to summon many courtesans. They smelled the scent on each courtesan one by one but still found nothing. When he reached the storeroom, a woman was tidying up clothes, which were all outdated garments to be discarded. Li Xiaoyao rummaged through them and found a white garment with a torn sleeve.

He went forward to ask and learned it belonged to a courtesan named Yingying in the house. The two soon met up and inquired about Yingying's situation from the housekeeper. The housekeeper claimed that Yingying was unwell that day and was not available to receive guests. Liu Jinyuan generously offered silver, and the housekeeper then led the two to Yingying's room. At first, Yingying did not admit to having fought with Li Xiaoyao.

Li Xiaoyao devised a plan to grab Yingying's left arm and discovered the knife wound on her arm. Liu Jinyuan offered to redeem Yingying. Yingying could no longer pretend ignorance and explained her original intention for stealing the treasures. As a courtesan, Yingying's biggest wish was to redeem herself. The female bandit Ji Sanniang found her and took a commission from each theft. Finally, she revealed Ji Sanniang's hiding place. Jin Baye brought the three, Zhao Ling'er, to the backyard.

A Nu laughed at Jin Baye, calling him half-human, half-demon. This angered Jin Baye, who then activated a mechanism. The three were nearly hit. Zhao Ling'er quickly mediated. Tang Yu pulled the angry A Nu to the yard. Zhao Ling儿 apologized to Jin Baye. Because she was not an ordinary person, Zhao Ling'er could very much understand Jin Baye.

Jin Baye said that he had been treated as a monster since he was a child, and even his parents had abandoned him. Zhao Ling'er's understanding made Jin Baye feel that a true friend was hard to find, so he told them the hiding place of the treasures stolen from the treasure pavilion. Led by Jin Baye's small mouse, the three, Zhao Ling'er, came to a well on the outskirts of the city. The three went down into the well.

They found there was indeed a mechanism. Tang Yu threw out his sword, breaking the first mechanism. The three then entered and found that the passage was set up with an illusion spell. Several maids instantly appeared and fought with the three one by one. Zhao Ling'er used magic to subdue them. The three hurried forward. Suddenly, several more maids appeared behind them.

Tang Yu told the two to look for the spirit bead first while he dealt with the rest. A Nu instructed Tang Yu that he must not get injured. Zhao Ling'er and A Nu crossed a door and found that the cave indeed stored many treasures, which were exactly the items lost from the treasure pavilion. A Nu took out the Sacred Spirit Bead and found that the sensing was getting stronger and stronger.

The two walked into a wooden box. After opening it, they found the box was empty. The Sacred Spirit Bead's sensing suddenly disappeared. Just as the two were feeling disappointed, they closed the wooden box, and another stone door was consequently opened. A Nu told Zhao Ling'er to go find the spirit bead first while she waited for Tang Yu to catch up. Li Xiaoyao also went down into the well.

Ji Sanniang recounted some deeds of Li Xiaoyao's parents when they were exploring the jianghu back then, but she believed they had both died in Nanzhao. Zhao Ling'er met with Li Xiaoyao. Ji Sanniang was preparing to leave but was unexpectedly captured by the mechanism that Liu Jinyuan and the officials had set up beforehand.
