Sweet Tai Chi Episode 17 Recap
> Sweet Tai Chi Recap
Wei Chu arrived to take Feng Piaopiao to the Wei family conference, but he found her attire unsuitable. He told her she needed something more formal, and after seeing her limited options, he decided to take her shopping for new clothes. At the clothing store, Wei Chu asked the sales assistant to find something formal for Piaopiao. She tried on a long dress, which captivated Wei Chu.
Despite Piaopiao's reservations about the dress being too expensive and not her usual style, Wei Chu insisted on buying it, telling her she had no choice. As they headed to the family conference, Piaopiao admitted she was nervous and a little scared, suggesting they not go. Wei Chu reassured her, promising to be by her side no matter what happened. Upon their arrival, the sect leaders were displeased to see Piaopiao, a descendant of the "Wulin scum," accompanying Wei Chu.
Lord Wang accused Wei Chu of disrespecting them by bringing her. Wei Chu’s grandmother also urged him to sit down with Piaopiao. However, Wei Chu remained standing, stating that the purpose of bringing Piaopiao was to address the long-standing sectarian prejudice within the four Tai Chi families. He explained that the rule of passing knowledge only within the family had led to stagnation, with no Tai Chi master emerging in years, threatening the future of Tai Chi.
A female sect leader argued that Tai Chi had always followed its rules, while others angrily insisted that Wei Chu’s words were disrespectful and demanded he face punishment at the Wei ancestral temple. Undeterred, Wei Chu publicly announced his intention to formally accept Piaopiao as his disciple. He then proposed a bet: if Piaopiao won the National Martial Arts Congress, the four sects must acknowledge her as a Wei disciple and abandon their sectarian prejudices.
If she lost, he would resign as Wei's family head and never again raise the issue of sectarian bias. The other leaders scoffed at the idea, confident that a mere descendant of Wulin scum could not defeat their genuine Tai Chi masters, and accepted the bet. Wei Chu then declared that his and Piaopiao's discipleship ceremony would be held the following day, as a promise to her. After the conference, Wei Chu's grandmother chastised him, calling him presumptuous.
Wei Chu maintained that his actions were not solely for Piaopiao, but to fulfill his dream of breaking down sectarian barriers and promoting Tai Chi, with Piaopiao being the first step. His grandmother warned him that the long-established rules were not easily broken and hoped he wouldn't regret his decision. Piaopiao, concerned that her potential failure at the Martial Arts Congress would negatively impact Wei Chu, asked if he was serious about his words at the conference.
He confirmed his sincerity, explaining that he also wanted her to be able to stay by his side and openly learn Tai Chi. He instructed her to prepare for their discipleship ceremony, noting that keeping her by his side was proving to be quite troublesome. Piaopiao then asked about the expensive dress, and Wei Chu simply called it a reward for her hard work.
Meanwhile, Xiao Xiao heard from her classmates that Piaopiao was Wei Chu's fiancée and that the news had been confirmed by Wei Chu himself. Furious that her best friend hadn't told her, Xiao Xiao confronted Piaopiao, who was caught off guard by the rapid spread of the news and admitted she hadn't been prepared to tell Xiao Xiao yet due to recent events.
Xiao Xiao, feeling betrayed and believing Piaopiao valued Wei Chu more, became agitated when Piaopiao questioned her persistent hostility towards Wei Chu. Xiao Xiao retorted that she was looking out for Piaopiao, reminding her of the troubles Wei Chu had brought, like almost getting expelled and being embroiled in scandals. Piaopiao conceded that some things had been difficult but also defended Wei Chu, saying he could be kind. Unconvinced, Xiao Xiao told Piaopiao to go find Wei Chu instead.
Later, a senior student brought chocolates to Xiao Xiao, asking her to give them to Piaopiao and congratulate her and Wei Chu on their engagement, expressing her own admiration for Wei Chu. Xiao Xiao was left with mixed emotions. Piaopiao later confronted Wei Chu, blaming him for the news about their engagement spreading through the editorial department.
Wei Chu explained that the news had spread quickly after he announced it at the family conference and that he had indeed confirmed it when asked by the editorial department. He apologized for not informing her but suggested that the public announcement wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as Wei family's protection would allow her to practice Tai Chi and compete without issue. Piaopiao still felt that their relationship was being handled too hastily.
Wei Chu then suggested they formally visit Grandpa Feng together, but Piaopiao, citing classes, excused herself. Wei Chu went alone, bringing engagement gifts. Grandpa Feng was delighted by Wei Chu’s visit and his sincerity, expressing his trust in Wei Chu to care for Piaopiao, whom he affectionately described as kind-hearted but sometimes impatient. Wei Chu promised to treat Piaopiao wholeheartedly. Later that evening, as Grandpa Feng walked Wei Chu out, Piaopiao returned from class.
Grandpa Feng, sensing the need for privacy, left them alone after stating he was entrusting Piaopiao to Wei Chu. Piaopiao expressed her surprise at how fast things were moving, feeling that Wei Chu was being too casual about their relationship. Wei Chu, with sincerity, assured her that he was serious. Piaopiao felt happy at his words. After Piaopiao had started to leave, she reconsidered, not wanting to go home and face her grandpa's questions.
She turned back, intending to confront Wei Chu again about their hastily announced relationship. Shortly after Piaopiao left him, Wei Chu was ambushed by a man in black. Piaopiao, having returned, intervened and helped him fend off the attacker, who quickly fled. She felt the assailant looked familiar but couldn't place him. She then escorted Wei Chu home, where they were reluctant to part.
Wei Chu, using the excuse that the man in black might return, asked Piaopiao to stay and protect him, which she shyly agreed to. As Piaopiao went to her dormitory to retrieve some belongings, she found Yang Ningxue waiting for her. Yang Ningxue warned Piaopiao not to participate in the National Martial Arts Congress, citing the immense responsibility Wei Chu had taken on for her sake.
She feared that if Piaopiao lost, Wei Chu would be unable to manage the fallout from the bet, and the entire Tai Chi sect would face pressure to force him out. Piaopiao, undeterred, insisted this was between her and Wei Chu. Yang Ningxue retorted that it concerned the entire Tai Chi sect and challenged Piaopiao to demonstrate her strength.
