Cen Jin is completely absorbed in the sweetness of her romance, a fact her colleague Shen Yun picks up on immediately. While the rest of the office is drained by a difficult client’s constant feedback, Cen Jin remains radiant. To hide her relationship from her mother, who has been staying at her apartment to check on her, Cen Jin even resorts to altering the time display on her computer to fake working late.
Shen Yun, whose own life is a cycle of stress involving teacher group messages and her child’s exams, notes the contrast and encourages Cen Jin to cherish this period of romance before life becomes more complicated. Meanwhile, Li Wu is grappling with a corporate crisis. He spends an entire afternoon waiting at Xingguang Technology for a meeting with a high-level executive that never materializes. Because of this, he arrives late for his dinner date with Cen Jin.
To make amends, he enlists a young flower girl to deliver a bouquet to her with an apology. Over steak, Cen Jin fondly recalls how Li Wu didn't even know how to use a knife and fork when he first arrived in Yi City, but Li Wu is too preoccupied with work thoughts to fully listen.
Cen Jin assumes he is worried about her mother’s disapproval and assures him that as long as they stay firm, her mother will eventually be moved. During the date, Li Wu receives a call from Shen Yiyang. Shen Yiyang has been trying to facilitate a connection with several environmental companies, but most have already finalized their projects for the coming year.
Only Kejun expressed interest, but Li Wu remains steadfast, declaring they will never accept a cent from a company that betrayed them. On the walk home, Cen Jin notices Li Wu’s palms are sweating and asks if the company is in trouble. Li Wu dismisses it as a minor bug he can handle. Their intimate moment is interrupted when they spot Cen Jin's mother about to leave the building.
They dive into the elevator to hide, and Cen Jin eventually sends Li Wu to take the stairs to avoid being caught. As Li Wu struggles to find new investment, Chun Chang continues her daily dating advice livestreams. Shen Yiyang surprises her by showing her a photograph of a small asteroid he recently discovered. He explains that the observation data has been submitted and confirmed by the International Astronomical Union.
He tells her that after four more return cycles, he will gain the naming rights and intends to name the star after her. This grand gesture leaves Chun Chang deeply moved and full of expectation for their future. The situation at Tongchen grows dire as the financial officer informs Li Wu that the company barely has enough money to cover next month's payroll. In response, Li Wu sells his car to raise funds.
He soon discovers that his co-founder, Cheng Rui, has been hospitalized for alcohol poisoning after trying to win over investors through excessive drinking. At the hospital, Li Wu watches from the hallway as Tao Wanwen, Cheng Rui's fiancée, offers Cheng Rui her family's one million yuan house down payment to save the company. Cheng Rui refuses to take it, promising to find another way.
Seeing his friend's sacrifice, Li Wu leaves a message for Cheng Rui to focus on recovery and decides to reach out to Kejun for a meeting. Cen Jin, who has long sensed the gravity of the situation, takes Li Wu on a late-night drive she calls an elopement. When she confronts him about the news of Lao Yi joining Kejun, Li Wu finally confesses the truth.
He admits his fear that failing would mean he no longer has the right to provide her with happiness. Cen Jin reassures him that her happiness is not an attachment to his career success. She urges him not to abandon his principles or accept unreasonable demands for her sake, as such a sacrifice would only create resentment in their relationship later on. Li Wu eventually meets Lao Yi at a hotel restaurant.
He humbles himself completely, downing several punishment drinks to appease the man. Lao Yi, relishing the sight of Li Wu’s apparent defeat, offers to have Kejun buy out the 30% share in Tongchen as an investment in his technology. Li Wu plays the part of a desperate man with no options left, letting Lao Yi gloat over how the tables have turned.
After the meal, Cheng Rui rushes to the hotel, having snuck out of the hospital while Tao Wanwen was away. He is furious that Li Wu met with Lao Yi, but Li Wu reveals his true plan. He plays back a recording of Lao Yi discussing technical secrets with Kejun’s higher-ups. This, combined with the records of Zhang Chenyang accessing the intranet to download the algorithm, provides enough evidence to sue for trade secret infringement.
The apparent surrender was merely a ruse to gather the necessary proof. When a designated driver arrives to take them home, the two men realize they have both sold their vehicles to pay their staff. Li Wu eventually makes it back to the apartment building, stumbling drunk to Cen Jin’s door. He initially tries to head to his own place upon remembering her mother is there, but the door opens before he can retreat. Despite her mother's presence, Cen Jin insists on bringing the intoxicated Li Wu inside to care for him, refusing to let her mother's disapproval stand in the way.
