Her boss readily agreed and took over the remaining work. Later, Chun Chang accompanied Cen Jin to the supermarket.
Chun Chang observed that Li Wu had rarely returned home since the new semester began, likely dedicating himself entirely to NCEE preparation. Cen Jin then selected an expensive fountain pen as an NCEE gift for Li Wu. Although Chun Chang worried Li Wu might be hesitant to accept such a costly gift, Cen Jin believed that NCEE was a significant life event and required a meaningful present.
She wrote a message to Li Wu with the pen, encouraging him to write his new chapter in life boldly and assuring him of her unwavering support. Soon after, the NCEE concluded. As Li Wu exited the exam hall, he saw Cen Jin waiting for him, feeling a deep sense of relief and connection, as if seeing a loved one. His friends, Cheng Rui and Tao Wanwen, approached to greet Cen Jin, with Cheng Rui complimenting her beauty and saying she was easy to spot in the crowd. However, her mother disregarded this, immediately sending a text message to Dr. Lu, inviting him to dinner at Cen Jin's home that coming Saturday. Later, as Cen Jin was about to leave, her mother handed her some purple crystals, which she had purchased from a health and wellness group, claiming they possessed sleep-inducing properties and could improve a home's magnetic field.
Cen Jin, remembering a previous incident where a similar product from the same group was exposed as a scam, expressed her skepticism. Her mother, nevertheless, insisted that Cen Jin take them home. Cen Jin took the crystals and, upon returning to her apartment, went to Li Wu's door. Li Wu, having just showered, opened the door wrapped in only a towel, causing Cen Jin to feel embarrassed.
She quickly gave him the crystals, explaining they were from her mother to help with sleep, then promptly retreated to her own apartment. At Tongchen company, excitement filled the air as the first round of testing for their new model successfully passed. Yi suggested celebrating with a team dinner at a barbecue restaurant downstairs. However, Li Wu wanted to go home early and offered to pay for everyone's meal instead.
Around the same time, Chun Chang called her mother, planning a visit to Cheng City. Her mother, however, informed her that she, Mr. Zhang, and Yuan were about to embark on a trip that Mr. Zhang had planned as a surprise "to Cheng City". Although her mother offered to cancel their trip, Chun Chang insisted she shouldn't, stating she would visit another day. She then instructed her taxi driver to turn back, abandoning her trip.
That evening, Shen Yiyang found Chun Chang at her bar, looking downcast. He offered a listening ear, though Chun Chang didn't elaborate much, just that she felt disappointment when her expectations fell flat, wishing she hadn't canceled her camping trip with Xiao Jun and others to go home. To lift her spirits, Shen Yiyang produced a portable star projector, allowing them to experience a starry night indoors.
Feeling comforted by the gesture, Chun Chang asked Shen Yiyang if he would always watch the stars with her, to which he agreed. Later, Li Wu was working in Shen Yiyang's lab, where he had successfully completed his model. To express his gratitude, Li Wu offered to treat Shen Yiyang to dinner. Shen Yiyang, noting he wasn't hungry after a late lunch, suggested they go for a drink instead, recommending a lounge bar owned by a friend.
As they arrived at Chang Bar, they found Cen Jin already there. Cen Jin recognized Shen Yiyang from a previous encounter, expressing surprise that he and Chun Chang were close friends. Shen Yiyang casually mentioned the bar was owned by "a friend." Chun Chang, realizing Shen Yiyang was referring to her, then invited the group to sit down, offering to open a bottle from her "private stash" since Li Wu was visiting.
Cen Jin, noticing a draft, thoughtfully asked Li Wu to sit in a different spot. That night, as Cen Jin prepared for bed, Li Wu knocked on her door. He explained that he couldn't sleep in his own apartment and consistently found restful sleep at her place, requesting to stay the night, even offering to sleep on the sofa and leave early in the morning.
Cen Jin allowed him in and, thinking of her mother's gift, placed the purple crystals on the table to aid his sleep. Li Wu gently corrected her, saying it wasn't the crystals but the "familiar environment" of her home that truly helped him sleep. Feeling a rush of unease, Cen Jin accidentally bumped the table while preparing to return to her room, causing a glass bottle to crash to the floor.
Reacting instantly, Li Wu carefully lifted Cen Jin and carried her to the dining area to prevent her from stepping on the broken glass, then proceeded to clean up the shards himself. Recognizing the growing intimacy and his underlying intentions, Cen Jin, once the glass was cleared, told Li Wu they needed to maintain a distance, reminding him of their past agreement to move forward. Li Wu, however, responded by questioning why they had separated in the first place, prompting Cen Jin to firmly tell him it was time for him to sleep.
