Wen Zong invited Ming Tan to attend a public auction hosted by the Su family in Lingzhou City. Meanwhile, Su Wenchun received news that although Ming Tan had supposedly turned back on the way, the scouts had yet to find any trace of her returning to the city. What Su Wenchun least expected was that Yu Bozhong turned out to be the leader of Haiyou Sect, and now had even repaid kindness with betrayal.

Wen Zong had released smuggled goods intending for the authorities to notice and trace them back to the Su family, but now with Ming Tan showing up uninvited, Wen Zong was convinced she was no ordinary person. Especially since Jiang Xu was in Lingzhou as well—he clearly came for the Su family. Wen Zong had been scheming in Lingzhou for years, and now the time had come to close the net.

Yun Yi was very angry that Shu Jingran didn’t make roast chicken for her during this meeting. The two argued in public, becoming a laughingstock, and Shu Jingran was even punched by Yun Yi. Su Er Rong instructed her people to prepare a room and snacks to go with wine—tonight she intended to set a trap for Jiang Xu.

Zhang Huaiyu had still not shown up in the capital, and Su Er Rong suspected that Jiang Xu was using a diversion tactic. Su Er Rong had someone tail Shu Jingran, only to find him driving a carriage to a remote area.

The ones following Shu Jingran and Yun Yi realized too late that the two had boarded a carriage and left them far behind. Shu Jingran had brought plenty of food this time but was still silent, seemingly upset. Yun Yi quickly explained that their argument at the inn was just an act to confuse those two fools and shake them off. Jiang Xu returned to his room that night and found Ming Tan inside.

Ming Tan was also puzzled—she had clearly been summoned by Su Er Rong to meet here. The two were clearly jealous and spared no words, with Jiang Xu blaming Ming Tan for being fickle and Ming Tan blaming him for lacking restraint. They quickly explained they were under orders to protect them.

Yun Yi, unable to tolerate any more, fought back and soon took down everyone in the courtyard. Late at night, Jiang Xu went to see Zhang Huaiyu, who had been imprisoned for several days and was extremely impatient, eager to return to the capital immediately. Shu Jingran felt guilty for not being able to help Yun Yi, but Yun Yi said that everyone had their own strengths, and by being together, they could complement each other.

Shu Jingran was filled with sweetness, already imagining their future child being both scholarly and martial. By the time Su Er Rong realized she had fallen for a diversion, it was too late. She rushed to Jiang Xu and Ming Tan’s room, only to be told by the maid that they hadn’t stepped out once. Su Er Rong knocked but received no reply.

Ming Tan put on a show of rejecting Jiang Xu, while Jiang Xu had intercepted a letter from the capital meant for Su Er Rong that very night. Inside was a portrait of Ming Tan, indicating the Su family was planning to take action.

Jiang Xu decided to take a risk—if the Su family discovered Ming Tan’s true identity, they would surely try to kill her. He was extremely uneasy, worried that Ming Tan was in danger, but Ming Tan said they were husband and wife and should share both hardships and joys. Shu Jingran and Yun Yi returned to the mansion with Su family members, and once again Su Er Rong looked embarrassed.

The letter from the capital stated that the consort of the General of Dingbei was in Lingzhou, and so they began plotting to take action against Jiang Xu—he could no longer be kept around. At the auction, Su Er Rong deliberately arranged for Ming Chu to sit up front and ordered Qing Yu to set a trap for Jiang Xu.

At that time, Ming Tan was seated in Wen Zong’s reserved area, while Qing Yu brought Jiang Xu before Master Yin. But unexpectedly, Jiang Xu presented memorials indicting several people and used them to threaten the officials into producing evidence of the Su family’s crimes—only then would he let them remain in the Maritime Trade Office in peace.
