Rong Le, gravely injured, collapsed and was swiftly brought to a nearby inn by Fu Chou, who then dispatched his men to secure a doctor for her. Meanwhile, back at his residence, Wu You found himself haunted by the recent, uncharacteristic sensation of touching Rong Le. Believing Wu You might finally be cured of his peculiar aversion to women, his younger brother, Wu Yu, took it upon himself to introduce a beautiful young woman to him.
However, as the woman quietly approached Wu You in his bath, he was suddenly overcome by a vivid, traumatic memory of his father killing his mother. In a fit of rage, Wu You violently threw the woman into the water, terrifying her until Wu Yu quickly intervened and led her away. Elsewhere, the Crown Prince expressed his frustration to Yu Wenjie over the failed assassination attempt on Prince Li at the Moon Embrace Teahouse.
Yu Shihai, Yu Wenjie’s father, chastised his son for his reckless plan, fearing that even without concrete proof, the Emperor would suspect the Crown Prince. Yu Wenjie defended his actions, revealing he had employed the secretive "Creed of Vengeance" and assured them that their involvement would remain untraceable. Seizing on this, the Crown Prince questioned what would happen if they "did" have evidence.
Understanding the implication, Yu Wenjie was dispatched to seal off the Moon Embrace Teahouse, arrest its occupants, and fabricate evidence. Later, Wu Yu apologized to Wu You for the earlier test, then discussed the assassination attempt, identifying the Crown Prince as the likely instigator. Wu Yu suggested investigating Moon Embrace Teahouse for clues, but Wu You dismissed the idea, stating the place would be empty and hinting that a significant event was about to unfold.
At the East Village Guesthouse, Rong Le awoke to find her wounds meticulously dressed and a pot of medicinal herbs brewing. She followed the sound of a zither to find Fu Chou playing in the courtyard and thanked him profusely for saving her life. Rong Le remarked on the unique quality of his music, noting a profound sorrow beneath its serene surface.
Impressed by her insight, Fu Chou revealed the song was called "The Past" and had been written seven years prior, questioning how she could discern such deep sorrow. Though Fu Chou offered her breakfast, Rong Le insisted on leaving due to urgent matters, and he arranged for guards to escort her. Wu You and Wu Yu visited their ailing teacher, who expressed gratitude for Wu You's unusual care despite his typical detachment from court affairs.
The teacher inquired about Wu You's refusal to marry Princess Rong Le, to which Wu You simply stated his unwillingness to be a pawn in power struggles. The teacher then subtly tried to arrange a meeting between Wu You and his daughter, Ya Li. Their conversation was interrupted by a servant announcing General Fu Chou's victorious return and an imperial summons for Wu You, prompting Wu Yu to connect it to Wu You's earlier prediction.
Fu Chou made a triumphant return from battle, greeted by cheering crowds. In the imperial court, the Emperor commended Fu Chou for quelling the southern border mutiny, bestowing upon him the title of "General of Defense" and a significant reward. Fu Chou, however, humbly attributed the victory to Prince Li's tactics, sharing the credit.
Pleased by Fu Chou's modesty, the Emperor not only promised to reward Prince Li but also announced his intention to place Wu You in charge of the three southern provinces. The Crown Prince, despite his jealousy, voiced his enthusiastic support. After court, Fu Chou politely declined the Crown Prince's invitation to a celebratory feast, citing his battle wounds.
Later, Wu Yu excitedly informed Wu You about the proceedings, detailing how the new appointment would solidify his position against the Crown Prince. Wu You, however, appeared more interested in Fu Chou's character, prompting Wu Yu to praise Fu Chou's humility, which had led to Wu You's advantageous new post. Meanwhile, Rong Le, in her guise as the proprietress of Moon Embrace Teahouse, was arrested by officers investigating Prince Li’s assassination attempt.
At the Princess's manor, Ling Yue and Lian Xin panicked. Their anxiety worsened when an urgent palace order arrived: the Empress planned to visit the "ill" Princess Rong Le that afternoon. With help from Xiao Sha, they devised a plan. When the concerned Princess Zhao Yun arrived, they claimed Rong Le had a contagious "weird sickness" that had also infected Ling Yue. As Zhao Yun tried to approach, she was overcome by Xiao Sha's potent incense and fainted.
Xiao Sha then sent a message to the palace, claiming Princess Zhao Yun might have been infected, successfully deterring the Empress from visiting. In prison, Rong Le found a sickly Chen Yu and was joined by Long Yue, who explained she had been arrested after intervening when officers brutally beat Chen Yu.
Rong Le deduced this was a scapegoat attempt by the Crown Prince and strictly forbade Long Yue from revealing her true identity to avoid embroiling West Qi in the matter. Just then, Yu Wenjie arrived and forcibly took the three women away. Elsewhere, a worried Rong Qi received news of the ambush at Moon Embrace Teahouse and that Long Yue was missing.
He was initially relieved that Princess Rong Le’s manor was undisturbed but urgently dispatched orders to confirm her well-being. In the interrogation chamber, Yu Wenjie tried to force Rong Le to sign a confession, falsely accusing her of being a spy and the mastermind behind the assassination. Rong Le vehemently denied the charges, while Long Yue and Chen Yu were severely beaten for defending her. The Crown Prince arrived and, captivated by Rong Le's beauty, began to harass her.
As he moved to assault her, Wu You burst in, kicked the Crown Prince aside, and took Rong Le into his arms. He directly challenged the Crown Prince, stating he knew who truly sought his death and sternly warned that his mother's dying wish would no longer protect the Crown Prince from his wrath. As Wu You carried Rong Le out, Wu Yu teased his brother about his newfound intimacy with a woman.
Wu You, perplexed by his own actions, admitted he did not understand why and instructed Wu Yu to manage the legal fallout. Later, in the carriage, Rong Le slept on Wu You’s shoulder. He gazed at her, his hand almost reaching to touch her face, but a sudden jolt from the carriage caused her to stir and awaken.
