General Luo expressed his displeasure with Captain Xiao's presence, showing disrespect towards Rong Le. Captain Xiao retorted sharply, declaring himself Rong Le's personal bodyguard and defending her honor. General Luo escalated the verbal attack, accusing Rong Le of seducing Wu You with her beauty and Captain Xiao of being promoted due to a woman. This provoked Captain Xiao, leading to a physical altercation between the two.
Later, as Rong Le and Wu You were leisurely playing chess, Leng Yan arrived to report that Captain Xiao and General Luo had gotten into a fight at the feast. Although Rong Le had not anticipated this development, she considered it might turn into an advantageous situation. That evening, Wu You and Rong Le arrived hand-in-hand at the feast. The attendees were abuzz with whispers upon seeing Rong Le's white hair.
General Luo, though clearly reluctant, halted his activities to salute them. After the greetings, Rong Le immediately questioned General Luo and Captain Xiao about carrying weapons and fighting at the royal feast, stating it was a great disrespect to Wu You. She ordered them to receive their punishment immediately. Captain Xiao complied and left, but General Luo remained defiant, prompting many to plead on his behalf.
General Luo stated he would only accept punishment from Wu You, further criticizing Rong Le for arriving late to his victory feast and undermining his authority. He complained that as a respected general, it was an indignity to be manipulated by a "white-haired demon." Wu You reacted angrily, slamming the table, but Rong Le calmed him and approached General Luo. She suggested that since he disdained women, they should settle the matter with a contest.
If Rong Le lost, she would withdraw from court and never interfere in state affairs again; if General Luo lost, he would surrender his command emblem to her, and the Luo Army would be at her disposal. General Luo, full of confidence, took his first shot in the archery contest, hitting the bullseye perfectly. The crowd applauded his skill. Rong Le showed no fear; she requested a black cloth to blindfold herself.
With her single shot, she astonishingly split General Luo's arrow in half. The onlookers were amazed, but General Luo refused to concede, demanding a rematch and claiming he could have reversed the outcome if Rong Le had shot first. Rong Le firmly stated that on a battlefield, an enemy would never grant a second chance.
She explained that his defeat was not due to his lack of skill, but his arrogance and underestimation of his opponent, as he only used a third of his strength while she used her all. Though still displeased, General Luo admitted his defeat and handed the command emblem to Rong Le. Rong Le accepted the command emblem and then had General Luo's mother, Madam Luo, brought in.
Madam Luo was furious upon learning General Luo had gambled away the command emblem, as his father had despised gambling. Seeing this, Rong Le placed the emblem onto a silk robe that she presented to Madam Luo, then gave both to General Luo. She smiled, saying she had merely played a trick on him and warned him not to repeat such a mistake. General Luo was completely won over by Rong Le's blend of firmness and generosity.
He immediately declared that the Luo Army would from that day forward be at the command of Wu You and Rong Le. The next morning, as Yali was leaving the royal manor, Ling Yue rushed to stop her. She informed Yali that General Luo had taken an interest in her at the previous night's feast and had already proposed marriage to Wu You, who had accepted. Distraught, Yali immediately returned to confront Wu You.
Wu You and Rong Le were discussing the very matter. Wu You expressed concern that with General Luo holding military power, a marriage into the Sun family could impede their efforts to weaken the influence of powerful noble families. Rong Le, however, emphasized Yali's happiness, suggesting that if Yali truly loved General Luo, it could still lead to a fulfilling marriage. Yali, misunderstanding Rong Le's genuine concern, felt Rong Le was trying to marry her off to a coarse man.
Angered, she stormed off, throwing her zither and the bracelet Wu You had given her onto the ground. Ling Yue followed to comfort her. Yali showed Ling Yue a scar on her hand and tearfully questioned why others could find true love while she was denied even the right to choose. Ling Yue consoled her, explaining that it wasn't that she hadn't met anyone, but perhaps had missed opportunities.
She urged Yali that if she ever met someone she could trust with her life, she must seize the chance and love courageously. Ling Yue further stressed that the weak are always oppressed and that Yali should bravely fight for what she wants. Convinced, Yali retrieved the bracelet Wu You had given her. Wu You and Rong Le, with Rong Le wearing a veil, ventured into the city incognito.
They overheard citizens excitedly discussing the popular storyteller at Serene Hill Inn, who was currently narrating tales of the "Silver-Haired Demon." Exchanging glances, they decided to investigate firsthand. Upon arrival at Serene Hill Inn, Qingzhou's most renowned teahouse, they found it packed.
The storyteller began his tale, depicting the "Silver-Haired Demon" as a white vixen who, after years of cultivation, used enchanting magic to corrupt hearts, moving between powerful men, impure and a bringer of disaster, inciting wars and public suffering. Some patrons then began to discuss how the Prince's consort also had white hair, leading to wild and fearful speculation that frightened even the children present, who hid in their mothers' arms.
As Wu You and Rong Le listened, a little girl approached Rong Le, asking for a sweet cake. Hearing the frightening tales of the "Silver-Haired Demon," she became scared and hid in Rong Le's arms. Suddenly, a waiter, taking Rong Le by surprise, deliberately lifted her veil. Seeing Rong Le's white hair, the crowd panicked and fled. The waiter then committed suicide. Wu You immediately stepped forward and knocked the storyteller unconscious.
Rong Le recognized Xiang Ying among the tea drinkers nearby, realizing the danger, and the three quickly left for the royal manor. Back at the manor, Rong Le invited Xiang Ying to stay and resume his role as her personal bodyguard. Xiang Ying politely declined, stating he had grown accustomed to a carefree, wandering life and did not wish to revisit his past. Rong Le reluctantly accepted his decision.
Leng Yan returned, reporting that no suspicious individuals or physical evidence were found at Serene Hill Inn. Xiang Ying frowned, noting that the waiter had poisoned himself to frame Rong Le, and the storyteller also had poison hidden under his tongue, fortunately stopped by Wu You. He commented on the viciousness of the plot.
Leng Yan suspected the Creed of Vengeance, but Xiang Ying disagreed, explaining that the Creed had vanished three months prior, with their Eastern Suburb Inn hideout already sealed. He suggested that perhaps Fu Chou, now in a high position, simply wished to bury his dark past. Wu You, however, understood the true aim of the mastermind: to incite public hatred towards Rong Le and the royal family, thereby hindering the progress of their reforms.
He instructed Leng Yan to monitor the spread of these rumors among the populace and to pay close attention to any contact between court officials and the Northern Lin region. Fu Chou led his troops back to the General's Mansion, carrying a mysterious box. Meanwhile, Wu Yu and Ke'er had spent a long time searching Youji Mountain without finding any trace of the Blood Raven Root.
In her eagerness to find the herb, Ke'er accidentally fell while climbing, but Wu Yu fortunately broke her fall. Just then, a hunter from downhill passed by and told them that a group of people had visited the mountain last month, searching the forest for days and nights. One of them had climbed the cliff and taken a precious herb.
Ke'er was both disappointed and curious, noting that the Blood Raven Root was useless to ordinary people, required human blood to be fed for its hair-darkening properties, and would severely deplete the feeder's vitality. She wondered who could have taken it. Fu Chou returned to the Tranquil Garden. Lying on Rong Le's bed, he seemed to sense her lingering presence, his mind filled with memories of their time together. Now, the room was empty, leaving him alone. He then opened the mysterious box, revealing that it contained the very Blood Raven Root that Ke'er had been desperately searching for.
