Rong Le told Fu Chou that while fate might have made them husband and wife in this life, they were never destined to be lovers. She asserted that even without Wu You, their story would have ended the same way. Fu Chou vehemently refused to accept this, declaring that he would fight against destiny and that he alone was meant to be with her until the end, and to die by her side.

Rong Le offered no further argument, merely stating softly that their connection for this lifetime had come to an end. Her calm words devastated Fu Chou. After Rong Le departed, a deeply conflicted Fu Chou noticed Hen Xiang lingering nearby. He pulled her into a room, violently throwing her to the ground before pointing a sword at her. Hen Xiang did not resist, instead explaining that her actions stemmed from an overwhelming love for him.

She offered to continue wearing Rong Le’s face if it would bring him even a moment of happiness. Fu Chou scoffed, asking if she was pitying him for failing to win Rong Le's heart. Hen Xiang clarified that she simply did not know how else to express her love, stating she would rather die by his blade than by the Creed.

Fu Chou then revealed his cruel plan: since not even he could see through her disguise, with some improvements, Wu You would surely be fooled. He intended to tell Wu You the truth after the deed was done, ensuring Wu You felt the same profound guilt and pain he was currently experiencing. He then ordered Chang Jian to lock Hen Xiang inside a chamber and summon the commanders of the Royal Army and Armor Troops.

Left alone, Hen Xiang reflected that as long as she wore Rong Le's face, Fu Chou could not bring himself to kill her, and she recalled his promise to let her leave once their grand plan succeeded. Later, a palace eunuch informed Fu Chou that the Crown Prince had been frantically searching for the Imperial Seal.

He had ransacked the late emperor’s study, the empress’s room, and even the Royal Garden, going so far as to order a search of a dried well. As they spoke, the Crown Prince, heavily inebriated, stumbled into view, grabbing Ya Li and speaking incoherently. He accused Ya Li of ingratitude, claiming she had once pointed a knife at him despite his kindness.

He then threatened to have Fu Chou kill her once he became emperor, asserting they were both merely Fu Chou's pawns. When Fu Chou appeared, the Crown Prince angrily demanded his removal, but Fu Chou calmly suggested he return to his room. The Crown Prince then confronted Fu Chou, asserting that without him, Fu Chou was nothing more than a traitor with military power, and that no one would obey him once Zongzheng Wu You returned.

The Crown Prince then grandiosely displayed something he claimed was the supreme Imperial Seal, declaring his coronation could take place tomorrow. Calling his actions treason, Fu Chou immediately ordered his guards to arrest the Crown Prince. As his men led the struggling Crown Prince away, Fu Chou declared that given the emperor’s recent passing and Wu You’s southern army, the Crown Prince needed to be patient for his coronation, adding that he would hold onto the Imperial Seal for him.

After the Crown Prince was removed, Fu Chou found the box where the Crown Prince had stored the 'seal' to be empty. Ya Li approached Fu Chou, thanking him for his intervention. Fu Chou expressed confusion at her sudden distance, then produced a fragrance pouch. Ya Li, assuming he was returning it, turned to leave in embarrassment, but Fu Chou stopped her, revealing that he had kept the pouch on his person all this time.

Ya Li, her hopes rekindled, asked if she truly held a place in his heart. Fu Chou vowed to fight for what was rightfully his, promising her an answer soon and pledging his unwavering support in life and death. He then formally invited her to dine with him that evening. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Fu Chou, Rong Qi secretly arrived at Qingmian Garden with his retinue to see Rong Le.

When Rong Le refused to see him, Rong Qi dismissed his attendants, stating he would wait until she was willing to meet. His chief attendant expressed concern that Rong Qi had not taken his medicine in two months and had travelled a great distance, but Rong Qi silenced him. Rong Qi then entered Rong Le’s living quarters, taking in the surroundings. He spoke aloud of his deep longing, imagining her life within those walls.

Rong Le finally appeared, holding a dagger to his throat and demanding to know his true intentions. Rong Qi explained he only wished to reconnect and have her brew him some tea, but Rong Le called his pretense a waste of time. Rong Le then confessed her weariness, stating she only had months left to live due to his medicine.

She refused to be entangled in any more wicked conspiracies, desiring only to live the remainder of her life in peace. Rong Qi ignored her plea, instead producing a box of desserts, clarifying that beneath each dessert lay a note containing a promise he could fulfill.

He revealed them one by one: the first promised she would meet Zongzheng Wu You tomorrow; the second, that she would safely leave the General's Manor; and the third, that she could live without sickness for one year. Rong Le remained suspicious, but Rong Qi swore on his throne and his people that all three promises would come true if she would simply eat the desserts and talk with him.

Still hesitant, Rong Le questioned how she could trust desserts from someone who had poisoned her, but Rong Qi simply offered to share them, taking half of a dessert himself. Rong Le then reluctantly ate the other half. Rong Qi then advised her to remember that nothing else truly mattered besides life and death, emphasizing his sole desire for her to live.

He reminded her how she had blamed him for marrying her into Northern Lin, yet it was there that she had met Wu You, which perhaps was her greatest joy. As Rong Le noticed Rong Qi coughing, she stepped forward to pour him some tea. Rong Qi caught her hand, intently urging her to endure the direst hardships to achieve the greatest happiness and, no matter what, to never give up on living.

Suddenly, Rong Le felt a profound weakness and collapsed, confused why she was affected when Rong Qi had eaten the same dessert. Rong Qi gently held her as she lost consciousness, assuring her the desserts were not poisoned, but merely meant to let her sleep soundly for a while. Later that evening, Ya Li arrived for her dinner with Fu Chou, who had specially prepared cuisines from Qingzhou, her favorites.

She expressed her delight and affirmed her unwavering support for whatever his future plans might be. Fu Chou then invited her to witness a "great show" at court the following day. Meanwhile, Rong Le awoke in a secret chamber, her head throbbing. Fu Chou entered and forcibly administered a bowl of medicine down her throat; she struggled but could not speak. A guard then reported that Zongzheng Wu You had led his army to the city gates.

Fu Chou, focused on his overarching plan, did not register Rong Le’s distressed state and ordered his men to proceed with her transfer. Wu You, leading the Southern Army, quickly breached the city gates. Suspecting Fu Chou’s cunning, he anticipated a trap. Wu Yu rushed forward, distraught over their father's death. He tearfully explained that Fu Chou had framed Wu You for the murder and cried for revenge.

Wu You calmed his emotional brother, telling him that this was not the time for grief; with Fu Chou controlling the royal palace, they needed extreme caution to thwart his conspiracy. Wu You also made Wu Yu promise to protect their main force should anything happen to him. Wu Yu revealed that his guards were unexpectedly redeployed that very morning, making Wu You realize that Fu Chou was prepared for his return.

Xiang Ying was ordered to find Rong Le at all costs. Xiao Sha then presented Wu You with a letter from Rong Le, in which she urged him not to hesitate between her and the greater good, expressing hope for a reunion in this life or the next. Inside the imperial court, ministers pressed the Crown Prince to quickly ascend the throne. The Crown Prince agreed, but as he spoke, Wu You led his army directly into the hall.

The Crown Prince, stunned, desperately called for guards, but no one responded. Wu You revealed the Royal Army was now under his command. He challenged the Crown Prince’s accusation of patricide, presenting the southern army as witnesses that he had never left their camp and rebuking the Prince for prioritizing his coronation over finding the true killer. Wu You then highlighted the nation's escalating crises and the Crown Prince’s inaction, concluding that he was unfit to rule.

When a minister noted the coronation required the late emperor's will and the Imperial Seal, the Crown Prince presented both. As the will was read, Wu You struck the Imperial Seal with his sword, revealing it to be a wooden fake. The Crown Prince, aghast, accused Wu You of swapping it. Wu You addressed the officials, asserting he had no desire for the throne. Convinced by Wu You’s words, the ministers knelt and implored him to lead the nation.

Just then, Fu Chou arrived, remarked that he had waited a long while for Wu You, and accused him of orchestrating conflicts in the south to secure his position. Wu You countered, accusing Fu Chou of treason. Fu Chou defended his own merits and accused Wu You of expanding his troops with the ambition to seize the throne, questioning how he could face the people. Wu You, in turn, challenged Fu Chou's conscience.
