Fu Chou welcomed Wu You and his entourage to the Tranquil Garden, which he had prepared as the princess's resting chamber. He offered to redecorate if the decor wasn't satisfactory. Wu You, discreetly waiting for news from Leng Yan, ordered his aide to keep a close eye on everyone leaving the manor, confident that Rong Le couldn't have simply disappeared.
Despite Fu Chou's claim that the bathroom had just been used by a friend and was still damp, Wu You insisted on entering. Inside, a stand-in for the princess entered the bathing area, where Rong Le was hiding in her princess gown. After a silent exchange of glances, the stand-in slipped beneath the water, allowing Rong Le just enough time to put on her mask.
Once Wu You and the others had left, Fu Chou instructed his attendants to clean the bathroom. The stand-in then emerged from the water, and a servant immediately brought her a set of dancer's clothing. At the banquet, Fu Chou entertained his guests with a performance by female dancers. Wu You, still suspicious, scanned the performers, wondering if Rong Le, as "Man Yao," was among them.
His attention was drawn to a captivating veiled woman in a red dress, whose graceful movements deeply impressed the Crown Prince. As the dancers approached Wu You's table, Leng Yan suddenly attempted to snatch the veiled woman's mask. She skillfully dodged his hand several times but eventually lost her balance, stumbling and falling, which caused her veil to come off and reveal her face. The Crown Prince quickly moved to assist the fallen woman, praising her ethereal beauty.
She shyly introduced herself as Hen Xiang from the House of Fragrance. Upon realizing she was not Rong Le, Wu You's interest immediately vanished. Fu Chou then ordered the servants to serve "Shilixiang" wine to everyone. Wu You's face darkened upon smelling it, a reaction observed by the Crown Prince, who enthusiastically declared the wine to be legendary and no longer in existence.
He recalled how it had been lauded at a royal feast sixteen years prior, before the Qin family, known for their loyalty, was tragically exterminated and their wine-making skills were lost. Wu You, growing increasingly furious at the mention of the Qin family and his former teacher Qin Yong, sharply rebuked the Crown Prince for lamenting the loss of wine-making skills rather than the capable official. The Crown Prince retorted that Qin Yong must have committed treason.
Unable to contain his anger, Wu You violently knocked over his wine cup, rising and departing with his retinue. Fu Chou inwardly noted that he had hoped the wine, which he had stolen from Wu You's manor, would lower Rong Le's guard. The Crown Prince, heavily intoxicated, left the banquet with Hen Xiang. Fu Chou then turned to Princess Rong Le, asking if she wished to remain at the garden or return to the Princess Manor with Xiao Sha.
Rong Le responded bitterly, stating she had no real choice, as Fu Chou had orchestrated everything, holding the lives of Long Yue and her companions in his hands while Xiao Sha was constantly monitoring her. Despite her current lack of options, she defiantly declared that she would not be his puppet. When Fu Chou addressed her as "Man Yao," she sharply corrected him, asserting her identity as the Elder Princess of Western Qi, not someone to be looked down upon.
With a final, resigned look, she departed with Xiao Sha. Upon returning to the Princess Manor, Rong Le found Rong Qi waiting in the courtyard. She confronted him sorrowfully, asking why he had taken away everyone she was familiar with. Rong Qi explained that it was to prevent her identity and true purpose from being exposed to the people of Northern Lin, emphasizing the need for caution. Rong Le dismissed his explanation as a sugar-coated excuse for her house arrest.
Rong Qi then demanded "The Book of Mountains and Rivers," reaffirming his promise that she could return to their home in Western Qi after one year of marriage. Rong Le, however, questioned whether she even had a home left. Rong Qi, masking his inner pain, stated that he only cared about the book's whereabouts.
Rong Le agreed to hand over the book, but only on the condition that the lives of her people—Chen Yu, Ling Yue, Xiao Wei, and especially Long Yue—were spared. Rong Qi consented, instructing Xiao Sha to bring her to them the following day. In a final, defiant gesture, Rong Le took out a jade pendant Rong Qi had given her, hurled it to the ground, and watched it shatter before turning decisively and walking away.
Rong Qi instinctively reached out but could only watch the precious item break, mirroring his own shattered heart. The Crown Prince, still inebriated, brought Hen Xiang back to his Eastern Palace residence, intent on pursuing intimacy. However, his Crown Princess suddenly appeared, enraged. She slapped Hen Xiang across the face and sternly questioned how he dared to bring a woman from a brothel into their palace, accusing him of disrespecting her.
The Crown Prince defended his actions, explaining that Hen Xiang was a gift from General Fu, whose alliance he had painstakingly secured. He angrily dismissed his wife and, as he attempted to resume his advances, Hen Xiang discreetly drugged his wine. Once he was unconscious, she revealed her disgust, kicking and punching him before meticulously searching the room. She ultimately found a hidden key near the head of the bed. The following morning, the Crown Prince awoke disoriented, recalling nothing.
Hen Xiang skillfully played the part of an innocent, affectionate woman, keeping him distracted while hinting that his wife was an obstacle. Leng Yan reported his findings on the "Shilixiang" wine served at General Fu's manor. He revealed it was a recent imitation produced by a local winery, not made from the Qin family's secret recipe. While it mimicked the original's aroma, the taste differed significantly.
Leng Yan explained that the winery merely exploited the wine's famous name, as the public was unaware of its connection to the taboo Qin family case. Wu You, however, found this highly suspicious, believing that Fu Chou could not be ignorant of the genuine "Shilixiang" secret. He pondered why Fu Chou would use such a restricted wine, considering all the recent events—the disguised princess, the skilled lead dancer, and the wine itself—to be suspicious yet seemingly unrelated.
Wu You instructed Leng Yan to find "Man Yao," even if it meant turning the entire capital upside down. Wu Yu, however, suggested that "Man Yao" might not have found "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" yet, and perhaps their efforts would be better spent searching for the book. Wu You, increasingly anxious, shattered a teacup.
Wu Yu then had an epiphany, realizing this was the first time he had seen Wu You so desperate, and that "Man Yao" was more important to him than the book. Wu You then decided they needed to search for her publicly, in the name of searching for a fugitive, to force her captors to reveal themselves. Wu Yu agreed to lead his guards in this widespread search.
While Wu You and Wu Yu were searching the city for "Man Yao," Fu Chou focused on his wedding preparations. Meanwhile, Xiao Sha visited Rong Le at the Princess Manor, informing her that Rong Qi had already departed for Western Qi. He then demanded "The Book of Mountains and Rivers." Rong Le sarcastically remarked on Rong Qi's trust in him before refusing to hand over the book until she saw Long Yue and her companions.
Xiao Sha acquiesced and led Rong Le to a fabric shop where Long Yue and the others were being held. Long Yue confirmed they had been given sedatives to prevent them from fighting but were otherwise unharmed. Rong Le assured them she would get them out and told Xiao Sha she would now lead him to the book, provided her people remained safe.
Under the pretense of leading Xiao Sha to the book, Rong Le guided him through the city streets, where she deliberately let herself be seen by Wu Yu and his guards. Seizing a moment when Xiao Sha was distracted by the guards' presence, Rong Le sprinted towards Wu Yu, who was overjoyed to see her. Realizing Rong Le's plan, Xiao Sha moved to recapture her, leading to a fierce struggle with Wu Yu.
While the two men were fighting, Rong Le swiftly returned to the fabric shop, subdued the guards, and fled with Long Yue and the others. Still weak from the sedatives but able to move, they made a desperate dash for the city gates, managing to escape just before they closed for the night. Later, news reached Wu You that "Man Yao" had been sighted at the west gate, confirming her successful escape from the city.
