Jiao Yang went to the rooftop looking for Lin Miao but instead found Lin Weijun, who was searching for Su Cheng Jun. Lin Weijun, recognizing Jiao Yang, asked if he knew her boyfriend, Su Cheng Jun, and where he was, mentioning she had heard he was on the roof but found no one. Jiao Yang directed her to the marketing department on the 14th floor.
Before she left, Jiao Yang asked if she truly liked her boyfriend, to which Lin Weijun brightly affirmed, stating she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Jiao Yang was deeply saddened by this, reflecting on Lin Miao's previous words to him about being merely his assistant and wanting to maintain professional boundaries, realizing that the person Lin Miao came to this world to find was not him. Lin Weijun soon located Su Cheng Jun.
As they spoke, Su Cheng Jun received a phone call from Assistant Lin, causing Lin Weijun to erupt in anger, demanding to go find Lin Miao. Su Cheng Jun, frustrated by her immaturity, sighed and told her it was time they re-evaluated if their relationship was suitable. Jiao Yang, distraught, spent the night playing basketball and did not return home. The next morning, Lin Miao brought Jiao Yang a fresh suit. However, Jiao Yang's demeanor was cold, telling her his other assistant, Xin, had already gotten him one. Later, in a meeting, Jiao Yang announced that Lin Miao would no longer be assigned to the upcoming althaea artificial cultivation project, instructing her to resume her regular duties.
Puzzled and hurt by his sudden change, Lin Miao asked Jiao Yang if she had made any mistakes or said anything wrong. Jiao Yang coldly reiterated that maintaining a professional superior-subordinate relationship was better for both of them, and advised her to take taxis to work, assuring her that the finance department would reimburse her. During the same period, Su Cheng Jun presented Director Zhao with two evaluated donation platforms for their campaign. When asked to choose, Su Cheng Jun selected one, but Director Zhao, wary of Su Cheng Jun's past private dealings, respected his opinion but chose the other platform. Su Cheng Jun then handed Jiao Yang his resignation, explaining that his current status was unsuitable for Hong Yu. Jiao Yang, though disappointed, respected his decision. Unbeknownst to Jiao Yang, Su Cheng Jun had already secured a new position as a director at Zhong Qing Group, set to start the following day. Later, Jiao Yang approached Lin Miao during lunch, asking why she wasn't eating.
Still annoyed by his earlier coldness, Lin Miao curtly told him it was none of his concern. Meanwhile, Secretary Yan discovered a comprehensive feasibility plan for the artificial cultivation of althaea in Lin Miao's wastebasket. Realizing it was Lin Miao's work and that she had been working on it since Jiao Yang first conceived the idea, despite being told not to, Secretary Yan showed the plan to Jiao Yang. He found Lin Miao having dinner with Su Cheng Jun, who was excitedly sharing news of his new director position. After Lin Miao congratulated him, Su Cheng Jun, feeling a deep, long-standing connection with her, called over a waiter for a bouquet and confessed his desire to pursue her. As proof of his knowledge, he produced a bracelet Lin Weijun had left behind at the company, suggesting Lin Miao would recognize it. Lin Miao abruptly pulled her hand away, firmly stating she did not like him, and reiterated his earlier advice to be rational, insisting that their relationship should remain strictly professional.
Tears in her eyes, Lin Miao ran off, deciding it was better to leave this world and prevent a painful future for Jiao Yang than to start something that wouldn't last. The next morning, Jiao Yang woke to find Lin Miao already gone from their shared home. At the company, Lin Miao rushed to tell him that the donation had gone wrong. The recipient platform denied receiving the funds, and their contact number was now vacant.
Both Lin Miao and Zhao Yan realized that Su Cheng Jun, who had originally drafted the list of donation platforms, was likely behind the fraud. At the Zhong Qing Group, Su Cheng Jun, now a market department director, reveled in his new authority, confidently delegating tasks to his new assistant, Chen, and demanding swift execution. News of the Hong Yu donation fraud, bearing Jiao Yang's name, was already circulating.
During a board meeting at Hong Yu Group, board members, citing Jiao Yang's repeated troubles and the damage to the company's reputation, demanded his resignation. Jiao Yang, unable to dispute the evidence, prepared to resign. However, Chairman Zhao intervened, presenting Leisure Hotel's first-quarter earnings report, which showed significant growth under Jiao Yang's leadership. He acknowledged Jiao Yang's tumultuous tenure but highlighted his tangible achievements, arguing that young leaders deserve chances to learn from mistakes.
Chairman Zhao proposed that instead of outright resignation, Jiao Yang be given an opportunity to redeem himself by leading a team to bid for a commercial land plot from Heng Yuan Properties, albeit as a regular project team leader. The board ultimately agreed to this proposal. Immediately, Hong Yu personnel began sealing off Jiao Yang's vice president office and stripping him of his executive privileges.
Despite the demotion, Lin Miao and other colleagues rallied around Jiao Yang, vowing to support him in the bidding process to help him regain his position. Jiao Yang, accepting his new role, took an empty desk beside Lin Miao, leading to a palpable awkwardness between them. Meanwhile, Lin Weijun sought out Su Cheng Jun, regretting their lack of communication and hoping to reconcile. She expressed confusion about his sudden job change, as he used to confide everything in her.
Su Cheng Jun, however, coldly rejected her, telling her he had a new job and she should find one too, and move on with a new life. Lin Weijun was heartbroken. Back at Hong Yu, Lin Miao handed Secretary Yan a detailed document about the donation fraud, asking him to deliver it to the board to clear Jiao Yang's name. She then went to the welfare center to visit Grandma Chen.
There, Lin Miao confided in Grandma Chen that "the boy" (Jiao Yang) had confessed his feelings, but she had rejected him, convinced that their two worlds would never align. She expressed deep regret for trusting the wrong person, Su Cheng Jun, and inadvertently causing Jiao Yang's demotion. She recalled her and Su Cheng Jun's past conversation on how to mitigate the PR crisis using charitable donations, now tainted by Su Cheng Jun's betrayal.
Lin Miao lamented that even though Jiao Yang had outwardly comforted everyone about the setback, his calm demeanor only made her feel worse, wishing he had just lashed out at her instead. That evening, Jiao Yang waited for Lin Miao to return home. When she arrived, she immediately retreated to her study to work. Jiao Yang gently urged her to get some rest, but Lin Miao, still emotionally distant, curtly replied that she wasn't sleepy and dismissed his concern.
