Out Of The Dream Episode 8 Recap
> Out Of The Dream Recap
Guan Zhijiu, known as Guan Jiu, tried to maintain a low profile at her corporate job, dressing plainly to avoid drawing attention. However, her colleagues still gossiped, comparing her current appearance to her glamorous coser persona, criticizing her "million-worth photoshop skill" and "ugly" look. Her deputy director called her into his office, accusing her of engaging in "strange" activities that affected the department's image.
He cited her poor performance in the 3/6/1 annual evaluation, where she received F grades from all her colleagues, placing her in the bottom 10% for termination. Despite his claims of previously protecting her, Guan Zhijiu asserted that she was at the company to work and earn money for herself and her "nonsense hobbies," not to make friends. When the deputy director moved to fire her, she promptly demanded N+1 months of severance pay and her last month's project bonus.
Emotionally departing from her corporate job, Guan Zhijiu reflected on her studio being her "Teleportation Door" to a place she truly belonged. She then arrived at the Jiubai studio, bringing a celebratory batch of crayfish for her colleagues who were working hard on the "Dragon Scale" project. She promised them Boston lobsters once the project was complete, which they eagerly recorded as a promise.
The team noted that their boss, Bai Feili, had already left work to buy groceries, clearly implying he was on a date. Later that evening, Bai Feili arrived home with groceries and a bouquet of roses for Yu Fei, though he awkwardly claimed they were given to him for free by the food seller. Yu Fei, teasingly, incorporated the roses into a dish: "Rose tofu eggs."
Bai Feili's grandparents, aware of his affections, subtly prodded him about bringing a girlfriend home as he had promised. Bai Feili described his ideal girlfriend with a string of exaggerated flaws like being "petty," "bad-tempered," "vindictive," "revengeful," and even "snores," all while making eye contact with Yu Fei. His grandparents, however, saw through his pretense and exchanged knowing glances. His grandfather, a Chinese professor, even corrected Bai Feili's simplistic view of the historical figure Zhang Fei.
After dinner, Yu Fei finished cleaning the kitchen, but Bai Feili tried to keep her from leaving by falsely claiming she left oil and dust everywhere. While Yu Fei was tidying up again, she received a call from Dao Ge, who excitedly informed her that he had successfully gathered 500 likes for her, qualifying her for a free English lesson based on a "magical method for fast English-learning." Bai Feili overheard the conversation and became visibly jealous.
When Yu Fei finally departed, she realized she had forgotten her notebook. Just as she turned to retrieve it, she saw Bai Feili standing behind her, notebook in hand. He made a flimsy excuse about "buying something," but then suggested they "roam around" together. They ended up at a bus stop, a place Yu Fei frequented.
She explained that while no bus from there went to her home, she liked to sit and enjoy the free, panoramic night view of Shanghai's iconic landmarks like the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jinmao Tower, and Shanghai Tower, contrasting it with the expensive alternatives. She shared her headphones with Bai Feili, inviting him to share in the tranquility. Bai Feili gazed at her, deeply moved.
As Yu Fei prepared to leave, he called her name and asked her to have dinner with him the next day as a thank you for returning her notebook. Although Yu Fei didn't explicitly agree, she was secretly thrilled. The following morning, Yu Fei intentionally met Bai Feili for breakfast at a casual sushi stall, quickly eating because she was rushing to her "Magical method for fast English-learning" class.
Bai Feili, suspicious of the program and eager to teach her English himself, tried to tell her something but was cut off. He quickly called to investigate and discovered the class was a scam designed to trick middle-aged and elderly people. Rushing to the location, he found police already apprehending the fraudulent teacher. He shielded Yu Fei from the scene and, on an impulse, blurted out that "your boyfriend also gets free."
Yu Fei blushed and asked who her boyfriend was, to which Bai Feili confidently declared himself her boyfriend, promising to help her pass her English exams within a week, despite her admitting she'd never dated before and found English challenging. Yu Fei agreed to consider a relationship, emphasizing that equality was key. She suggested they both act awkwardly or foolishly to achieve this balance.
She then dramatically pulled out a ripped page from her notebook and began to read aloud Bai Feili's "missing notice" poem that he had written for her. The poem described her "rushing into his world" and "escaping when he's not in the mood to clean," and how her "recklessness caused his world to crack." Bai Feili, embarrassed, tried to stop her.
He finally embraced her, interrupting her reading, and whispered the end of the poem directly to her: "Those cracks are where the light comes in." He then passionately kissed her by a wishing fountain. Unbeknownst to them, Dao Ge witnessed the kiss. In his mind, he fantasized about rushing forward, confessing his love, and Yu Fei choosing him. However, in reality, he was heartbroken and left unnoticed, analyzing the situation to rationalize his inaction.
He believed Yu Fei was either an undercover agent or had been scammed by Bai Feili, whom he considered a liar. He resolved to gather evidence of Bai Feili's "emotional fraud" to present to Yu Fei at the right moment, despite a friend's past warning that opportunities waited for no one. Later, as Bai Feili drove Yu Fei home, she was lost in thought, wondering how to react if he asked to come upstairs for a drink.
Bai Feili, sensing her inner turmoil, simply said goodnight and promised to take her somewhere tomorrow. Feeling inexperienced in matters of romance, Yu Fei consulted Shuji for "love quick-learning methods," for which Shuji offered a digital e-book for 15 yuan, with the first rule being to "act cute, flirt, and show vulnerability." The next day, Bai Feili took Yu Fei to the Jiubai studio.
The team, dressed as a "sorry squad," performed a dance to apologize for mistaking her for an informant at the Suzhou Comic Con. Bai Feili then invited Yu Fei to officially join Jiubai. She accepted, choosing the coser name "Feng He," explaining its poetic meaning related to wind and lotus. Amidst this, Guan Zhijiu, now known as Guan Jiu at the studio, proudly announced her resignation from her corporate job to dedicate herself fully to the "Dragon Scale" project.
Her colleague, Hao Shi, surprised her with a cheerful celebratory dance. Afterward, Bai Feili and Yu Fei went on a drive, but their car suffered a flat tire. While waiting for roadside assistance, Bai Feili suggested Yu Fei move into the attic of Zhan Yuan. He reasoned that since she already came daily to cook and he tutored her, moving in would save her commute time.
Yu Fei, wanting to prolong their romantic moment, playfully flirted, claiming it was cold and she wanted to wait with him, calling their predicament a "memorable event." Bai Feili, feigning ignorance, suggested calling her a car to go home. Frustrated, Yu Fei accused him of deliberately misunderstanding her and threatened to leave him and his "rubbish car" to wait alone. Finally, he understood her cues and asked her to stay with him a little longer until the rescue arrived.
