Out Of The Dream Episode 30 (Ending) Recap
> Out Of The Dream Recap
The performance of "Dream of the South" was a resounding success, drawing in an audience that filled the venue. Guan Jiu, Bai Feili, and Yu Fei, along with the entire Jiubai Studio, finally saw their hard work and dedication to their dreams come to fruition.
The play itself explored themes of eternal love, featuring characters like Liu Xichan, a lonely imperial concubine, and a steadfast lover defying fate to be together, echoing sentiments of holding hands and growing old, and rather giving up one's life than one's beloved. Two years later, Jiubai Studio had moved to a new location, a testament to the success of "Dream of the South."
Inside, Zhuang Sheng was engrossed in a video game projected onto a large 4K screen—a purchase made possible by their earnings. He was connected with Hao Shi, who was studying abroad. Guan Jiu walked in, heard Hao Shi's voice, and immediately snatched the phone from Zhuang Sheng. She began to scold Hao Shi for playing games instead of focusing on his studies.
Undeterred, Hao Shi abruptly hung up the phone on her, much to Guan Jiu's disbelief at his newfound boldness. Shortly after, Gui Deng arrived at the studio with Xiao Le. Xiao Le was thrilled to hear about Jiubai Studio's upcoming project, "The Story of Colorful Clouds," and eagerly volunteered to assist Zhuang Sheng with making props. As everyone settled in, their phones simultaneously chimed with an exciting notification: an invitation to perform at a New Year's Eve countdown party.
The news was met with immense joy and celebration. Nearby, Brother Dao had opened a new drink shop right next to Shuji’s small store. One day, a beautiful woman, elegantly dressed in a hat and sunglasses, came in and ordered a mint glutinous rice mung bean soup. As Brother Dao chatted with her, introducing his unique Suzhou-style mung bean soup made with traditional ingredients, he realized she was his elementary school classmate, Zhang Doudou, also known as Xiang Ke.
He quickly pulled down his sleeves, suddenly conscious of his appearance. Xiang Ke then received a call, informing her her agent was outside to pick her up, and she left. Shuji, who had stepped over to borrow some juice, was stunned to recognize Xiang Ke as a global beauty and a top-tier celebrity, as well as Brother Dao’s long-time crush.
Shuji, ever the opportunist, took the chance to remind Brother Dao about his past debts—eleven cups of juice and five cups of mung bean soup from previous weeks—before Brother Dao reluctantly lent him another cup. Shuji encouraged Brother Dao to bravely pursue Xiang Ke, but Brother Dao demurred, feeling he was too ordinary for a star of her caliber. Shuji then inadvertently discovered a set of keys left on a chair.
Brother Dao immediately grabbed them and ran out to catch her. A moment later, Shuji discovered a piece of paper with Xiang Ke’s phone number, calling it "double insurance." At a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, Qin Feng visited Yu Qing. He announced that he would be away on a business trip for two months.
They shared a simple lunch, during which Yu Qing offered health advice and even mentioned her iQiyi account where she posted rehabilitation exercise videos, aiming to help more patients with their symptoms. As Qin Feng prepared to leave, he apologized for his past actions concerning Yu Fei. He then posed a question to Yu Qing: were they still "indebted to each other" or "even now"? Yu Qing instinctively replied, "Still indebted," eliciting a soft smile from Qin Feng.
Meanwhile, at the Shandengting troupe, the master held a meeting with Lantong. He informed her that, moving forward, she would be responsible for all publicity. He emphasized the importance of producing more educational content about Peking Opera and less of the "monkey business," while also ensuring her daily training remained consistent. Lantong initially offered to do it without additional pay, stating she enjoyed it and wanted to attract more audience members to Shandengting.
However, the master insisted on a formal contract, outlining profit-sharing based on annual earnings, and warned her that neglecting her training would result in a salary deduction. Lantong agreed, promising not to let her training suffer. It was Guan Jiu's thirty-first birthday. On her way home, she received a phone call from Hao Shi. As she climbed the stairs, she was surprised to find them adorned with romantic balloons.
Upon reaching her apartment, she was even more surprised to discover Hao Shi himself, who had returned without a word. Hao Shi warmly embraced her, calling her by her full name, Guan Zhijiu. Guan Jiu playfully teased him for daring to use her full name, to which Hao Shi confidently replied that he dared to do much more. He then kissed her, and they shared a romantic embrace.
Hao Shi revealed that he had been documenting all of Guan Zhijiu's moments since they met, from her first frustrations about her age to his styling for "Dream of the South" and "Scalebound," her little lies, and her attempts to avoid his declarations of love. He told her that he remembered every fleeting moment and found ways to preserve them.
Although his initial plan for an online party was ruined by Zhuang Sheng, he was prepared to continue documenting her life after thirty, promising to be the person who would always wave a glow stick for her. Yu Fei and Li Shaoyan returned to China as rising stars of Peking Opera after a successful tour, including a performance at the 39th Street theater on Broadway. Li Shaoyan was greeted by a crowd of admirers.
Bai Feili, holding a light board with Yu Fei's name, waited patiently. Spotting him, Yu Fei immediately ran towards him and embraced him tightly. Videos of her performances had become hugely popular online. In a future timeline, an older Yu Fei had become the foremost "Kunsheng" of her generation, having dedicated her entire life to the art of Peking Opera since entering the Shandengting troupe at the age of twelve.
She stated that on stage, she was no longer just Yu Fei, but had to properly fulfill the lives of all the characters in the plays. Yu Fei recounted to a doctor her ongoing struggle with sleep and a recurring dream: she would find herself running through an endless bamboo forest until a male lion appeared, pouncing on her. Yet, instead of attacking, the lion would gently lift her with one paw. She sought an explanation for this mysterious dream.
The doctor admitted he couldn't interpret dreams but shared a common saying: dreams are often glimpses of oneself in a parallel universe. Following this, Yu Fei closed her eyes, preparing to enter a state of deep relaxation.
