Nice to Meet You Episode 3 Recap
> Nice to Meet You Recap
Yu Zhi and Yu Yi waited in a private room for a long time, anticipating the arrival of Wu Xiaoci and Gao Hui, who were clearly delaying to assert dominance. Yu Yi expressed his frustration at their tardiness, but Yu Zhi, recalling Gao Hui's competitive spirit from their recent pool game, was confident she would show up.
He had secured this meeting after challenging Gao Hui to a game of pool, which he won, and then revealed his identity as Yu Yi's cousin, offering to treat her and Wu Xiaoci to a meal on an agreed-upon date. Just as Yu Zhi and Yu Yi were betting on their arrival, Wu Xiaoci and Gao Hui finally appeared, apologizing that they had been held up by an early morning visit from Jin Furong Diamond's Director Yang.
Yu Yi greeted them warmly, complimenting Gao Hui, who responded with a playful jab about his unchanged flattery skills. Earlier, at Fancy, Wu Xiaoci and Gao Hui had toured the facilities, where Wu Xiaoci was introduced to the company's designers. When they came across Gao Jie's butterfly design, Gao Hui immediately noted its resemblance to her mother's "Butterfly Dance" series, subtly accusing Gao Jie of "borrowing ideas."
Gao Jie defended her work, explaining her unique approach with a loose diamond inlay to depict dynamic wing movement, emphasizing the distinct radian, angle, and expression compared to "Butterfly Dance." Director Zhou, however, cut her off, instructing her to humbly accept expert feedback. Wu Xiaoci, intrigued by the fact that the designer shared the same name as Pan Yue's daughter, Gao Jie, asked Director Zhou for her background information.
Later, Gao Hui expressed reservations about Fancy, citing the group's finance background and lack of jewelry experience, stating she didn't want to explain her designs to "old foxes" who only understood capital. Wu Xiaoci agreed, emphasizing that Gao Hui's priority should be to win the upcoming annual Creative Designer Competition to establish herself in the industry. Meanwhile, Director Zhou confronted Gao Jie in his office, accusing her of tattling to HR, whose manager he claimed was his sports partner.
He belittled her, stating she didn't understand workplace rules and wouldn't succeed anywhere. Gao Jie retorted, reminding him of his harassment in Southeast Asia and intentionally sending her to a dangerous mine. She called him out for playing dirty tricks, saying she had tolerated it repeatedly for a fair chance at candidate selection. Director Zhou dismissed her claims, ridiculing her snowflake design as "cold" and "fake prudent," suggesting her design director couldn't even defend her.
He questioned her ability to win the competition, especially against Wu Xiaoci's award-winning daughter, and sarcastically advised her to "fix her brain" and be a team player. At the meeting with Wu Xiaoci and Gao Hui, Yu Yi conceded Rui Hua's past weakness in embedded jewelry compared to its strength in gold. Both he and Yu Zhi declared their intention to vigorously expand into embedded jewelry, promising greater sincerity and a broader scope of collaboration than their competitors.
To demonstrate their commitment, they revealed having already signed a partnership agreement with Astor Mine in Southeast Asia, known for its high-quality red rubies. Wu Xiaoci was impressed but questioned how they could guarantee Rui Hua's full support for Cilian, given Mu Ziyun's control over product series. Yu Yi assured her that they would provide Cilian with the best market resources.
Yu Zhi then offered their assistance to Gao Hui in the upcoming Annual Ingenuity Jewellery Designer Contest, which he heard she was participating in. Gao Hui, feeling her ability was being questioned, expressed displeasure, but Yu Zhi clarified they merely wished to offer minor contributions as she was new to the domestic market. They then toasted to a happy collaboration. Later, Gao Jie confided in Si Cheng, questioning if her design was truly inadequate.
Si Cheng encouraged her to separate work from personal anxieties. He also asked if she had been taken advantage of in Southeast Asia. Gao Jie confirmed Director Zhou's misconduct but explained she hadn't told Si Cheng to avoid involving him, hoping HR would handle it. Si Cheng understood but urged her to inform him immediately if Director Zhou exhibited any further inappropriate behavior. He also suggested she attend an upcoming enamel lecture at Hai Feng Bookstore.
Meanwhile, Gao Hai returned to a dilapidated alley in Shanghai, where memories of his past with Pan Yue resurfaced. He found Pan Yue there, playing with a child and seeming mentally unwell. When he approached her, she did not recognize him, leaving Gao Hai deeply troubled and confused by her condition. Soon after, Yu Zhi received a call from Hai Feng Bookstore, informing him that "Miss J" had arrived.
He abruptly left Gao Hui, who had been trying to extend her "meal treat" from him, leaving her bewildered. Yu Zhi rushed to the bookstore, where an enamel lecture was taking place. He quickly located the "Miss J" who had called him, only to find two young women who admitted to prank calling him out of curiosity about his "Miss J. Please find me" poster.
Yu Zhi was furious, emphasizing he was searching for someone very important to him, not to be toyed with. As he was entangled with the pranksters, Gao Jie, who had been attending the enamel lecture, stood up and walked out, once again narrowly missing Yu Zhi. Returning home, Gao Jie found her grandfather meticulously working with broken porcelain pieces.
He explained that Pan Yue had accidentally broken a flowerpot and refused to sleep until he promised to make her jewelry from the shards. Gao Jie, still feeling insecure about her designs after Director Zhou's harsh words, shared her concerns with her grandfather, lamenting that her creations felt "cold, without emotion." Her grandfather enlightened her, explaining that mere book knowledge makes a craftsman, but true designers need a "spiritual aura."
He advised her that whatever she makes, she must invest her whole heart and feelings into it; only then will the piece come alive and possess that spiritual quality. He added that jewelry imbued with genuine feelings cannot be copied. Gao Jie was deeply inspired, finally understanding his wisdom. Yu Yi met Gao Hui for coffee, directly addressing her mother's continued review of other companies.
He candidly stated that despite Mu Ziyun's control, he was destined to be Rui Hua's future chairman, and Yu Zhi's personal animosity towards Mu Ziyun would ensure their alliance. He spoke of his grand vision for the jewelry industry, with Rui Hua as the first step, and reminded her of his ambition from their school days. Gao Hui agreed to discuss their proposal with Wu Xiaoci.
She then inquired about Yu Zhi, and Yu Yi provided personal details, including his age, overseas education, passion for outdoor activities, investment in a rock climbing facility, and his single status, even sending her the address. Back home, Gao Hui tried to persuade Wu Xiaoci to collaborate with Rui Hua.
She argued that Rui Hua's perceived weaknesses offered a unique opportunity for her to make a significant impact by revitalizing a declining company, an enticing challenge she preferred over collaborating with already established brands like Jin Furong or Fancy, where she felt her contributions would be less distinct. Wu Xiaoci agreed to consider it but still advised Gao Hui to prioritize professional expertise. Gao Hai returned home late, giving a false alibi for his dinner plans.
Wu Xiaoci noticed his poor spirits since returning, but he brushed off her concerns and retreated to his art studio. Gao Hui believed he was painting their family portrait for their upcoming wedding anniversary, as he did every year. However, in his studio, Gao Hai gazed at a butterfly painting for a long time. A flashback revealed his past: years ago, he had left Pan Yue and their two-year-old daughter, Gao Jie, for an opportunity to study in the U.
S. with Wu Xiaoci, ignoring Pan Yue's desperate pleas. Wu Xiaoci, upon seeing Gao Hai's painting, became furious, suspecting that he still hadn't moved on from Pan Yue after all these years. Despite the competition deadline having passed, Si Cheng presented Gao Jie's new design concept, a Southeast Asian Kingfisher, to the chairman. The chairman was very impressed and immediately announced in a meeting that Gao Jie would represent the company in the Annual Ingenuity Jewellery Designer Contest.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival family dinner, Yu Zhi noticed his mother's photo was missing from the table. His grandmother claimed she had put it away, but Yu Zhi retrieved the dusty picture from a drawer and restored it to its place, silently acknowledging who had hidden it. His grandmother assured him that his mother was not forgotten and urged him to look forward.
Yu Zhi, however, once again spoke harshly to Mu Ziyun, prompting his grandmother to admonish him and demand he address Mu Ziyun respectfully. At that moment, Yu Guanghua, Yu Zhi's father, returned home, disheveled and carrying alcohol, which angered his grandmother. Yu Zhi coldly ignored his father. Yu Zhi was then consumed by a painful memory: Mu Ziyun and Yu Guanghua brazenly embracing in front of his mother.
Mu Ziyun had taunted his mother to control her husband, and Yu Guanghua had openly declared his long-standing dislike for Yu Zhi's mother. After Yu Guanghua left, a terrified young Yu Zhi found his mother's lifeless body downstairs; she had committed suicide by taking sleeping pills. Yu Yi had comforted him, explaining that their grandmother's favoritism towards Mu Ziyun stemmed from Mu Ziyun's significant influence at Rui Hua.
Later, Yu Guanghua demanded 500,000 yuan from Mu Ziyun for a Macau business trip. When she hesitated, they began arguing, bringing up their shared past, implying mutual responsibility for events. Recognizing they were intertwined and needing to keep their past secret from Grandmother, Mu Ziyun reluctantly handed him a bank card. After Yu Guanghua left, Mu Ziyun immediately ordered the closure of the East Street store where Yu Zhi's mother used to work, even though it had met its performance targets.
