Nice to Meet You Episode 29 Recap
> Nice to Meet You Recap
The following day, when Yu Zhi and Gao Jie arrived home, Mu Ziyun expressed her displeasure. Gao Jie quickly withdrew her hand, and Mu Ziyun once again pressed Gao Jie on whether she had thought her decision through clearly. Yu Zhi immediately stepped forward, shielding Gao Jie. Grandmother had already prepared dinner. As Yu Zhi and Gao Jie arrived, she asked Mu Ziyun to help set up the table, deftly easing any potential awkwardness.
At the dining table, Mu Ziyun repeatedly served Gao Jie food, which Yu Zhi observed with some confusion. Grandmother then affectionately told Gao Jie that she would treat her like her own granddaughter after her marriage to Yu Zhi, and promised to give her justice if Yu Zhi ever bullied her, acknowledging that Gao Jie's family situation was not easy.
Yu Zhi then announced his desire to give Gao Jie a grand engagement party, proposing the date be set during Rui Hua's 40th-anniversary celebration. Grandmother found this idea wonderful. Considering the couple's busy schedules, Grandmother entrusted Mu Ziyun with the preparations for the engagement, emphasizing it must be grand. Mu Ziyun, however, pressed Gao Jie multiple times about whether she had thought her decision through clearly, highlighting that an engagement involves two families.
Yu Zhi nearly flared up, but Gao Jie quickly held his hand. Gao Jie sincerely told Mu Ziyun that she loved Yu Zhi and wished for a smooth marriage, asking for her help to fulfill their love. Mu Ziyun acknowledged their decision, stating she would prepare everything well. Grandmother then proposed a toast, recognizing they were almost family.
Later, Gao Hui felt a pang of discomfort when she saw a female employee trying to curry favor with Yu Yi by offering him coffee. Gao Hui intercepted the coffee, remarking that since Yu Yi wasn't interested, she would take it. She then tasted it in her office and declared it terrible. Soon after, Yu Yi arrived with Gao Hui’s preferred coffee – two creams, no sugar.
Gao Hui commented that people's habits and tastes can change, just like Yu Yi now liking black coffee. She questioned why Yu Yi would be angry if another woman got close to him, adding that she didn't care as long as it didn't affect the Hui Xin series. Yu Yi assured her that he would not give up on the idea of a new production line for Hui Xin and would find a way to make it happen.
Later, Yu Zhi confronted Grandmother, questioning why she had allowed Mu Ziyun to manage his engagement. Grandmother calmly stated her wish for Yu Zhi to let go of his past grievances. However, Yu Zhi declared that he would never forget how his mother died and how he was cast out of the family, implying Mu Ziyun couldn't forget this either. Grandmother remained firm, leaving no room for negotiation, and urged Yu Zhi to focus on more important matters.
Grandmother informed Gao Jie that the Custom Order Group, despite being saved, still lacked performance and sales support. It would need to affiliate with another department: either the Plain Gold Group, led by Mu Ziyun, or the Inlay Group, led by Yu Zhi. This presented a difficult choice for Gao Jie, who decided to consult with the old masters. Gao Jie felt conflicted, not wanting to damage her relationships with either Yu Zhi or Mu Ziyun.
Mu Ziyun later met Gao Jie in a coffee shop, pressuring her to choose the Plain Gold Group and hinting that her aunt's position might no longer matter as much as Yu Zhi's. Mu Ziyun advised Gao Jie not to let emotions cloud her judgment, especially concerning her family, and warned that Grandmother might not approve. This made Gao Jie think of her mother and wonder if Grandmother truly wouldn't agree.
Gao Hui, eager to expedite the launch of her Hui Xin series, requested Yu Yi to help open a new production line. Yu Yi promised to find a way to make it happen. However, when Yu Yi presented this request to Grandmother, she rejected it. Grandmother expressed concerns about the sustainability of orders, the possibility of idle production lines, and the need for extensive training for new workers.
She believed Yu Yi lacked the foresight and capabilities of a business leader and advised both him and Gao Hui to be more stable and cautious in their approach. Gao Hui was very upset by Grandmother's refusal, and Yu Yi felt a growing sense of crisis. During a company meeting, Grandmother formally announced Yu Zhi's official entry into the board of directors. Mu Ziyun's face immediately darkened.
She then approached Yu Yi, warning him that Yu Zhi's presence on the board made him a formidable competitor for the successor position, and advised Yu Yi to demonstrate his own capabilities. Yu Yi calmly replied that the Chairwoman held the ultimate authority in deciding the successor.
Undeterred, Mu Ziyun continued her subtle provocations, vaguely stating that if Yu Yi did nothing, others would take his place, and that the world was complex, making it hard to discern friends from enemies. She added that Yu Zhi's swift rise after joining the board was inevitable. Yu Zhi entered the room just as she finished, clearly displeased by her words. The following day, the Custom Order Group's affiliation was to be decided.
Yu Zhi attended on behalf of Yu Yi. Both Mu Ziyun, representing the Plain Gold Group, and Yu Zhi, representing the Inlay Group, presented their cases, offering support to the Custom Order Group. Gao Jie, speaking for the masters, ultimately announced the Custom Order Group's decision to affiliate with the Plain Gold Group. Yu Zhi's face immediately darkened, and Grandmother was also surprised by the decision, which was, in fact, the consensus of the three masters.
After Gao Jie and Mu Ziyun left, Grandmother called Yu Zhi. Gao Jie later explained to Mu Ziyun that her decision was based purely on work, choosing the department most aligned with the Custom Order Group's business. Mu Ziyun, however, warned Gao Jie about the complexities of the Yu family and urged her to end things with Yu Zhi.
Grandmother later told Yu Zhi that Gao Jie's choice was reasonable from a business perspective and expressed delight, inviting Yu Zhi to bring Gao Jie home for a formal family meal soon. Yu Zhi waited at Gao Jie’s office door. Once inside, he angrily drew the curtains and confronted her, questioning why she chose to collaborate with Mu Ziyun.
Gao Jie quickly explained that the decision was made by the Custom Order Group's craftsmen, not solely by her, and she didn't believe it was the wrong choice. Yu Zhi, however, complained that Gao Jie didn't trust him and should have informed him beforehand, assuring her he wouldn't have forced her to choose the Inlay Group. Gao Jie apologized, secretly wondering how angry Yu Zhi would be if he knew Mu Ziyun was her aunt.
Frustrated and feeling lost, Yu Zhi confided in his friend Yan Kai at a climbing gym, admitting that Gao Jie had made him forget his responsibilities and desire for revenge. He expressed his anger at her recent choices but also his inability to stay mad at her. Yan Kai offered to take him drinking to find a "Master of Solutions." Later, Gao Jie brought a drunk Yu Zhi home, who was still upset and distant.
She then showed him wedding bands she had designed, taking inspiration from the "tree of life" to symbolize their deeply rooted and growing love. Yu Zhi questioned her, asking if, without the masters' choices, he would have been her sole choice. Gao Jie assured him that he was never just a choice, but her "one and only." Yu Zhi was deeply moved and proposed that he personally design their wedding bands as unique tokens of their love.
Yu Zhi then suggested meeting their families. Gao Jie was nervous, feeling unprepared, but Yu Zhi promised to arrange it the next day for her to meet Grandmother as her granddaughter-in-law. Recognizing Mu Ziyun's attempt to sow discord, Yu Zhi quickly reiterated his loyalty to Yu Yi, reminding him of their pact to work together for Rui Hua and reassuring him he had no interest in competing for the successor position. Yu Yi, however, responded with a distant smile.
Frustrated by the ongoing manipulation, Yu Zhi decided he could no longer tolerate the situation and immediately called Manager Zhang. Under Yu Zhi's implied pressure, Manager Zhang unhesitatingly revealed the full extent of Mu Ziyun's scheme, detailing how she had hidden the jewels and framed Yu Zhi. Unbeknownst to them, Yu Guanghua, who was in the adjacent room, overheard the entire confession and was furious. Manager Zhang then left, pleased with his secured contract.
Yu Zhi slowly approached Yu Guanghua, who finally understood that Mu Ziyun had not been protecting him. In a fit of rage, Yu Guanghua then admitted Mu Ziyun's actions against Yu Zhi. Yu Zhi pressed for more details, realizing that Yu Guanghua had been aware of Mu Ziyun's false accusation against him all those years ago and had been shielding her.
Yu Zhi threatened Yu Guanghua, vowing to reveal everything to Grandmother if he didn't provide a complete account of events. Yu Guanghua then admitted that Mu Ziyun had hidden the goods to frame Yu Zhi, and he, in turn, had used that very batch of goods to settle his debts. Enraged, Yu Zhi wanted to immediately take Yu Guanghua to Grandmother to expose the truth. However, Yu Guanghua, still focused on self-preservation, asked if Yu Zhi had any evidence.
Feeling deeply disheartened by his father's actions, Yu Zhi revealed he had recorded their entire conversation, stating his presence was no longer necessary. Panicked, Yu Guanghua quickly pleaded with Yu Zhi not to let Grandmother hear the recording, promising to confess everything himself. At a subsequent family gathering, Mu Ziyun vehemently denied all accusations. Yu Zhi then produced a ruby transaction receipt he had discovered in Mu Ziyun's drawer.
Yu Guanghua immediately rose to his feet, corroborating the accusations against Mu Ziyun, leading to a heated verbal exchange between them. Grandmother intervened to stop their argument. Mu Ziyun then retaliated, claiming she had hidden the ruby solely to cover Yu Guanghua's gambling debts. Grandmother then calmly revealed that she had known about this matter for a long time.
Later, Master Zheng privately explained to Gao Jie the details of Yu Zhi's past framing: Mu Ziyun had accused him of losing a ruby, which led Grandmother to send him to a boarding school overseas. Master Zheng clarified that Grandmother had investigated the matter much earlier, and while she didn't care about the specifics of who hid or sold the ruby, she did care deeply about Yu Zhi.
Yu Zhi, realizing Grandmother had known the truth all along, felt deeply heartbroken and questioned why she had still sent him away. Tearfully, Grandmother explained that she had done so to protect him from the chaotic family environment, wishing for him to have a clean and pure upbringing.
She confessed to feeling immense guilt for having wronged him and for leaving him alone abroad for so long, but she believed it was the only way to safeguard him and the family. When Mu Ziyun quickly offered an apology, both Yu Zhi and Yu Guanghua jointly rebuked her, silencing her. Yet, Grandmother continued to shield Mu Ziyun.
Crying, Grandmother expressed her profound regret, stating that the Yu family had few remaining members and blaming herself for harming many, including Yu Zhi's mother, by insisting Yu Guanghua marry her, an action she believed ultimately led to her death. Enraged and heartbroken, Yu Zhi stormed out of the house. He had believed that finding the truth would enable him to drive out Mu Ziyun, but he realized that within this family, truth held little importance; only self-interest truly mattered.
Wiping away his tears, he silently vowed never to forget the debt this family owed his mother. Later, Grandmother visited the Custom Order Group. Master Zheng, finally feeling he could speak freely, addressed her as "Madam" for the first time. He questioned Grandmother's excessive tolerance towards Mu Ziyun. Grandmother explained that Mu Ziyun had dedicated her youth and decades of loyalty to Rui Hua, making it difficult for her to be harsh.
She urged Master Zheng to focus on developing the Custom Order Group. Soon after, Gao Jie received a call from Master Zheng, asking her to comfort Yu Zhi. As Yu Zhi returned home, Gao Jie rushed into his arms.
