Nice to Meet You Episode 2 Recap
> Nice to Meet You Recap
James was taking a bath in the water while Jocelyn stood on the shore, reluctant to look. After everything they had been through, she trusted him completely. She couldn't help but ask James about his profession, given his extensive knowledge, but he deliberately avoided the topic. As he finished his bath, he encouraged Jocelyn to come down and clean up, assuring her he would stay nearby.
James turned his back to dress, playfully suggesting they go on a date when they returned home. When he received no answer, he turned around to find Jocelyn had fainted from a high fever. Jocelyn woke in James’s arms, feeling remorseful for being a burden and wasting another day. James dismissed her worries, explaining that the most critical issue was her illness, and his medicines were back in the car.
He highlighted the danger of the fluctuating temperatures in the rainforest. Jocelyn admitted she couldn't move and feared being a burden, suggesting he leave her to seek help. James refused to abandon her, but Jocelyn insisted he find rescuers rather than expend all his energy on her. James agreed to leave her the last can of food, estimating it would take him one day to walk out and two days to return with help.
Jocelyn urged him to keep the food for his energy. James then playfully requested a "lucky kiss." Jocelyn, amused, pulled him close and gave him a gentle kiss. James, momentarily stunned, then took the lead, and they shared a passionate embrace. Jocelyn pleaded with him to return safely, promising to wait for him. James vowed he would.
James embarked on the treacherous journey to find help, leaving a weakened Jocelyn in the tent, where she clung to the image of his face as her only source of hope. Exhausted, James collapsed on the roadside after exiting the rainforest but was fortunately rescued by local villagers. Jocelyn awoke in a hospital. Si Cheng informed her that a Chinese man had sought help from the villagers, provided her location, and was then hospitalized, his whereabouts currently unknown.
Given the seriousness of the incident, the company had already booked Jocelyn a return flight to Shanghai. Jocelyn called her Grandfather, who was overjoyed to hear she was safe and urged her to come home quickly, mentioning how worried her mother, Pan Yue, had been. Jocelyn, though safe, couldn't stop thinking about James, wondering if they would ever meet again. James, too, was preoccupied with Jocelyn's safety. Upon her return, Jocelyn prepared many dishes for her family.
Her Auntie, Mu Ziyun, arrived and repeatedly told Jocelyn to take care of herself. Pan Yue, however, was engrossed in Jocelyn’s design drafts and skipped eating. Mu Ziyun offered suggestions on Jocelyn's design, commenting that the materials and traditional Chinese design didn't quite mesh with the hardness of diamonds. Jocelyn mentioned Master Wu Xiaoci's "Dance of the Butterfly" as an example of successful integration.
This comment instantly changed the atmosphere; Mu Ziyun and Grandfather’s expressions soured, and Pan Yue, hearing Wu Xiaoci’s name, became frantic, claiming the design was hers and causing a commotion in the house. Meanwhile, James delivered the Astora ruby mine contract and the large red ruby to Yu Yi. Yu Yi believed this ruby was essential to persuade Wu Xiaoci to collaborate with them, marking the first step in their "Setting Group's counterattack."
James explained his determination to expose Mu Ziyun's past misdeeds, revealing that his mother would not have died young, nor would he have been falsely accused and sent overseas, if not for Mu Ziyun. He affirmed he could not tolerate the injustice, which was why he was helping Yu Yi, and in turn, himself. Instead of celebrating, James chose to visit the old East Street shop. Jocelyn eventually managed to soothe Pan Yue to sleep.
She couldn't resist asking Mu Ziyun about Wu Xiaoci's connection to their family, but both Mu Ziyun and Grandfather evaded the question, insisting there was no relation and telling Jocelyn not to make "blind conjectures." Mu Ziyun then left for a store inspection. James, visiting the Rui Hua East Street store, observed its struggling business, noting it was far worse than during his mother's time. He reminisced about his mother giving him a star-and-carousel bracelet.
The store manager, Sister Lin, confirmed Mu Ziyun's dissatisfaction with the sales. James's thoughts turned to a painful memory of seeing Mu Ziyun enter his father’s car, fueling his anger. Mu Ziyun arrived at the store and feigned warmth, embracing James and inviting him to live at home, asserting she treated him like her biological son.
James, however, saw through her act, politely declined, stating he wouldn't disturb her work, but promised to attend the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, hinting he might stay long-term. He then gently detached himself and left. Mu Ziyun's demeanor immediately changed as she sternly warned Sister Lin that if the store didn't meet its sales target this month, it would be closed. Jocelyn confided in her friend about her adventure in Thailand.
Her friend enthusiastically offered to help find James, even proposing to write a story about their "Romantic Encounter in the Countryside" and mobilizing her book fans to search for him using his sketch. However, Jocelyn declined, explaining that her mother’s illness made the idea of dating too complicated, believing that it was "Heaven's best arrangement" for her and James to part ways at the most opportune moment.
Meanwhile, Yu Yi, while rock climbing with James, commented on James's increased anger and fighting spirit after encountering Mu Ziyun. He recounted Mu Ziyun's past actions, including framing James for the loss of a ruby and forcing his family to sell company shares. James reaffirmed his resolve to publicly expose Mu Ziyun's deceit, vowing never to forget what she did. James later returned home to find his Grandmother, who expressed her displeasure at his long absence and unannounced return.
James apologized and announced his intention to join Rui Hua, stating he would not leave again. Grandmother suspected his motives were not entirely pure, and James admitted his primary reason was Mu Ziyun. Grandmother warned him that Rui Hua was not a place for personal vendettas and that he would not gain her approval if that was his true intention.
She then asked him to come home for the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, pausing to gaze at a photo of James and his mother before leaving. At Fancy, Jocelyn presented her design concept, inspired by a "snow flower" – pure yet complex, beautiful yet cold, representing modern urban women. Director Zhou dismissed it as "aloof and cold," unsuitable for Fancy's focus on wedding and romantic jewelry, and criticized her for not following company requirements.
Jocelyn was puzzled, believing she had adhered to the guidelines. Director Zhou and Wendy then clarified that the theme for this internal project was "animals." Jocelyn realized she had missed this crucial instruction. Wendy's design, featuring a fox motif for an "alluring woman," ultimately won the contest. Afterwards, Jocelyn overheard Wendy thanking Director Zhou for intentionally sending Jocelyn away during the meeting where the animal theme was announced, ensuring Jocelyn missed the detail.
Director Zhou scoffed at the idea of Jocelyn reporting them, confident that without evidence, the company would side with him, the Director of Operations, over an "insignificant designer." Furious, Jocelyn walked into the Human Resources office, vowing not to "stay silent anymore." Simultaneously, James visited Hai Feng Bookstore, thinking of Jocelyn.
Jocelyn was also there, watching a news report where master designer Wu Xiaoci announced her company, Cilian, was launching a Greater China Development Plan led by her daughter, Gao Hui, who would participate in the Annual Ingenuity Jewellery Designer Contest. After Jocelyn paid for her purchases and left, a bookstore employee posted a "Miss J. Please find me. James" poster, and the two once again narrowly missed each other.
Wu Xiaoci and her daughter, Gao Hui, visited Fancy to discuss a collaboration. Wu Xiaoci admired Jocelyn's design, but Gao Hui subtly implied plagiarism, noting its similarity to her mother's work. Jocelyn clarified her design philosophy, asserting it was distinct from Wu Xiaoci's "Dance of the Butterfly." Director Zhou interrupted, which made Wu Xiaoci notice Jocelyn shared the same name as Pan Yue’s daughter. Wu Xiaoci requested Jocelyn’s profile, which Director Zhou agreed to provide.
Gao Hui expressed disinterest in collaborating with Fancy, but Wu Xiaoci affectionately stated she merely wanted her daughter to observe "potential enemies," praising Jocelyn's design. Wu Xiaoci stressed her desire for Gao Hui to win the design competition to establish herself in the industry. To gain Wu Xiaoci's cooperation, Yu Yi targeted Gao Hui, entrusting James with the task of winning her over as he had a meeting to attend. Despite Gao Hui's usual arrogance, James skillfully caught her attention with a game of pool, successfully drawing her into his scheme.
