My Lonely Planet Episode 19 Recap
> My Lonely Planet Recap
Mr. Hao, the CEO of Walnut, felt deeply humiliated by the recent sales figures. Despite Hu Tao's top-tier resources, they had been outperformed by Fluffeee, which Mr. Hao dismissed as a mere workshop. When an employee pointed out Fluffeee's success was due to Mr. Miao, who managed operations, and his partner "Lady Ugly," who handled design, the employee even acknowledged Mr. Miao's capabilities. Mr. Hao, clearly irked, reminded him that there was only "Mr. Hao" in that room.
Miao Yu received an unexpected call from Zhou Song, who invited him to his engagement party with Li Zhizhi. Wang Chen, overhearing Miao Yu's end of the conversation, playfully teased him, wondering if Li Zhizhi still harbored feelings for him or planned to elope at the event, likening it to a dramatic television series. Miao Yu clarified that it was Zhou Song, not Li Zhizhi, who had extended the invitation.
When Wang Chen suggested his hesitation indicated guilt, Miao Yu firmly declared he was completely over Li Zhizhi and would attend "with his head held high." That day, January 26th, was also Wang Chen's birthday.
Although her friend Ling Sansan had given her a set of sexy pajamas as a gift and wished her a romantic surprise from Miao Yu, Wang Chen felt a pang of disappointment when Miao Yu, fresh off signing a crucial investment deal with Mr. Yu for Fluffeee, asked her to accompany him to the engagement party, confirming he had no other plans for her special day.
On the day of the engagement party, Wang Chen and Miao Yu found themselves lost, as there were no signs indicating the event. They soon encountered Qin Sirui, who was also looking for the venue. Qin Sirui explained he was there at the insistence of a friend, who mentioned the couple desired as many guests as possible. Together, they finally located the party.
Inside, Wang Chen and Miao Yu immediately noticed the absence of any elders from the groom's side, a detail they both found unsettling. As the bride and groom made their entrance, the guests offered polite compliments. However, the celebratory atmosphere quickly soured. Zhou Song began his speech by lavishly praising Li Zhizhi's beauty and tenderness, only to abruptly denounce her as a "gold digger."
He then revealed he had spent over three million on her, covering her luxurious lifestyle, but she still demanded to be added to his property deed. He disclosed that his parents, after investigating her, discovered she had dated more than twenty men, consistently moving on to a wealthier partner once her current one ceased to spend money. To underscore his point, Zhou Song gestured towards a table, identifying its occupants, including Miao Yu, as Li Zhizhi's "ex-boyfriends" and fellow victims.
The former boyfriends joined in, vociferously accusing Li Zhizhi of being a fraud and demanding their money back, some even threatening to call the police. Miao Yu, however, refused to "hit a person when he’s down." As Li Zhizhi's parents arrived, she tearfully urged them to leave, facing the onslaught of accusations alone.
Zhou Song then demanded she remove the diamond jewelry he had purchased, with other guests also shouting at her to take off her expensive Vera Wang wedding dress. Miao Yu intervened, reminding everyone that it was an engagement party, not a marketplace, and questioned if Zhou Song truly wanted his sincere feelings to be mocked. Zhou Song then ordered Li Zhizhi to "get lost." As she turned to leave, she stumbled and fell.
The guests, cynical, immediately assumed she was faking for sympathy, reminiscing about how she had used similar tactics in the past. It was Qin Sirui who promptly rushed to her aid, while Miao Yu hesitated, casting a glance at Wang Chen. Later, Miao Yu confronted Zhou Song, asking why he resorted to such public humiliation instead of legal action.
Zhou Song, wounded, admitted it was the first time he had been truly sincere with a girl, only to be tricked, lamenting the money and years of his youth lost. After Zhou Song’s confession, Wang Chen urged Miao Yu to go after Li Zhizhi, expressing concern for her well-being given the distressing events. She assured Miao Yu she would be fine.
Qin Sirui offered to drive Wang Chen home, pointing out it was her birthday and she shouldn't have to eat leftovers alone. Wang Chen politely declined, suggesting that sometimes a stranger’s concern can be warmer, but still insisted on going home by herself. Miao Yu found Li Zhizhi eating fries, an indulgence she said she had long avoided to maintain her image. He advised her not to internalize the harsh words.
Li Zhizhi confessed that the accusations were true, acknowledging she was indeed a "gold digger" and that her actions were calculated choices to pursue a better life she believed she deserved, despite a disadvantaged background. She admitted her "shortcut" had led to a complete "failure" and that she "deserved this punishment," though she questioned if her parents deserved the same humiliation. Ultimately, she recognized she had hurt many and admitted she was wrong.
Li Zhizhi then thanked Miao Yu and encouraged him to return to Wang Chen, not wanting to upset his girlfriend further. As Miao Yu turned to leave, she stopped him, telling him her Vera Wang dress wouldn't match his jacket, a subtle refusal of his comfort. She then embraced him from behind, revealing that her past rejection of his proposal wasn't due to a lack of feelings, but because she felt "unworthy" of his goodness and love.
With a final "Goodbye," she released him, seemingly accepting her fate. Back home, Wang Chen waited anxiously for Miao Yu. It was her birthday, and she felt a deep sense of loneliness, eventually deciding not to disturb him. A delivery arrived: an anonymous bouquet of flowers with a "Happy Birthday" card. Believing they were from Miao Yu, she felt a surge of happiness and placed them by her bedside before drifting off to sleep.
Miao Yu eventually returned and saw Wang Chen in her "sexy pajamas" and the flowers. Unaware of the sender, he misinterpreted the scene, suspecting she was still in contact with Qin Sirui. The next morning, Wang Chen woke up to find Miao Yu sleeping on the sofa in Lady Meow's distinctive posture. She initially worried he was upset because of Li Zhizhi, but quickly dismissed such suspicious thoughts.
As she reached to cover him with a blanket, she noticed a distinct lipstick mark on the back of his shirt. The unspoken tension escalated at work, with colleagues observing what appeared to be a "cold war" between Miao Yu and Wang Chen, speculating it stemmed from "ex problems." Some suggested that unresolved connections with exes could lead to current relationship issues, questioning if a lack of firm rejection indicated insufficient love for the present partner.
Wang Chen overheard these conversations, feeling provoked and wondering if Miao Yu was hinting at a breakup. Later that evening, a sudden power outage plunged their apartment into darkness. Wang Chen, startled, bumped into a table. Miao Yu went to check the main switch, only to find the entire neighborhood was without power, confirmed by their neighbor, Aunt Liu. Back inside, by candlelight, Wang Chen declared she couldn't "hold it any longer" and initiated a conversation.
Simultaneously, they both voiced their concerns: Wang Chen questioned the lipstick mark on his shirt, while Miao Yu asked if she had met with Qin Sirui the previous night. The misunderstanding quickly unraveled. Miao Yu explained that if he were truly hiding something, he wouldn't have left "evidence" so carelessly, calling Wang Chen a "silly girl" for her unfounded jealousy.
Wang Chen admitted her own jealousy was misplaced, swearing she hadn't met Qin Sirui and had mistakenly believed the anonymous flowers were from Miao Yu. Miao Yu, surprised, then revealed he had always thought her birthday was February 24th, as mistakenly printed on her ID. Wang Chen clarified that her actual birthday was January 26th, finally clearing up the confusion.
Miao Yu then presented her with a belated birthday gift: a Lego sculpture he had meticulously crafted, specifically designed to appeal to her, knowing her disinterest in generic models. Feeling a newfound clarity, Miao Yu expressed his desire to no longer keep their relationship a secret. He suggested they repost the announcement they had attempted earlier on WeChat Moments.
While Wang Chen expressed concern about how investors like Mr. Yu might react, Miao Yu reassured her that they could effectively balance their personal relationship with their work, asserting that hiding their love only led to misunderstandings. More importantly, he declared his intention to openly acknowledge Wang Chen as his girlfriend to the world, thereby "lowering the chance of her being taken away." They then took a selfie and posted it, publicly declaring their relationship.
Their friends responded with an outpouring of excited messages, celebrating the news. As the evening concluded, Wang Chen, still in her sexy pajamas, asked Miao Yu to take some photos of her. When he questioned who they were for, she explained they were for "us when we are in our 80s," a sweet sentiment that Miao Yu readily accepted.
