My Heroic Husband Episode 14 Recap
> My Heroic Husband Recap
As creditors descended upon Wu’s Cloth Store, demanding their money back, Wu Qihao was confident that someone could provide the large sum. His father, Wu Chenghou, angrily tried to physically reprimand his son. Su Wenxing arrived, finding himself trapped amidst the chaos with Wu Qihao, who confessed that while the Wu family had no funds, he knew someone who did.
Meanwhile, Ning Yi and Su Tan’er were experimenting with a newly developed waterproof coating for fabric, with Guard Geng as their test subject. Su Tan’er enthusiastically praised Ning Yi’s invention, eager to learn its secrets, but Ning Yi playfully insisted it was a "business secret." Their playful banter was cut short by Su Wenxing, who, putting on a rare humble front, pleaded with Su Tan’er for financial help for the struggling Second Master’s branch.
Su Tan’er firmly refused, explaining that as a married woman, her own small family was her priority and she couldn't constantly support those who wouldn't help themselves, implicitly calling him an idiot. Su Wenxing then turned to Ning Yi, who acknowledged his ability to provide the money but stated his condition: the person truly behind Su Wenxing's plea must come and beg him in person. With that, Ning Yi took Su Tan’er’s hand and led her into the inner room.
Once alone, Ning Yi remarked on Su Wenxing’s surprisingly "cute" and "idiotic" demeanor that day. Su Tan’er, surprised to find their hands still intertwined, shyly looked at him. Ning Yi then praised her for standing up for herself and urged her to continue doing so to prevent future bullying. Su Tan’er, however, expressed a desire for him to face challenges alongside her, asking if she still had to handle things alone.
Ning Yi replied that some things couldn't be helped, and when she pressed if he couldn't face them with her, he remained quiet. The situation at Wu’s continued to deteriorate. Creditors, growing increasingly aggressive, burst into Wu’s Cloth Store and seized all the fabric as payment, while Su Wenxing managed to escape in the chaos. Wu Qihao sat amidst the wreckage, utterly defeated, as outsiders pointed and whispered.
Wu Chenghou, seeing his family’s legacy in ruins, was heartbroken and tearfully advised his son to humble himself before Ning Yi. Wu Qihao initially resisted, claiming he would rather die than beg Ning Yi, but upon seeing his father's failing health and recognizing that he had ruined his father's painstaking efforts, he finally wavered and reluctantly agreed. Wu Chenghou then warned his son against being undisciplined, stating that "desire is like a knife above one's head".
Before Wu Qihao’s arrival, Ning Yi instructed Su Tan’er to orally convey the waterproof fabric formula to Manager Liao, ensuring no written records were left behind to prevent theft. Soon after, Wu Qihao appeared at the Su residence. Su Wenxing, who was also present, anxiously urged Wu Qihao to speak up. As Ning Yi turned to leave, Wu Qihao finally called out to him and, as Ning Yi had predicted, knelt down.
Ning Yi sternly reminded Wu Qihao of his past misdeeds, including humiliating Su Tan’er and mistreating his own friends, stating that Wu’s bankruptcy was merely a "small punishment." Wu Qihao, prompted by Su Wenxing, swallowed his pride and apologized, admitting he had been obsessed and made mistakes. Ning Yi then agreed to purchase all of Wu’s silk, but only at a price of 10% of the original value.
Despite Wu Qihao’s desperate pleas, trying to negotiate up to 70% then 50%, Ning Yi remained firm at 10%, reminding Wu Qihao that he was the one begging. Faced with no other options, Wu Qihao reluctantly accepted the offer and signed the agreement. Wu Qihao, curious about his undoing, then asked Ning Yi to explain how he orchestrated Wu’s downfall step by step. Ning Yi, in a detailed exposition, revealed that he never intended to compete for the silk.
His initial high bids were merely part of a trap to lure Wu Qihao in. He explained that silk, being a futures good, had fluctuating prices, allowing him to "short sell" it when he anticipated a drop, then buy it back cheaply. To "hedge against loss," they started selling preserved eggs to accumulate cash, leading Wu Qihao to mistakenly believe Su’s Cloth Store was closing due to defeat.
Ning Yi bypassed Song Xian's blockade by selling in alleys, recognizing the general public's preferences. He then established the Zhu Club to collect customer data, all to prepare for innovation in the cloth industry. Ning Yi also revealed how he manipulated Commissioner Han to transfer the Jiangbei silk orders to Su’s, only to then sell them to Boss Xue at a discount.
He spread rumors of increased tributary cloth demands, causing other Jiangning cloth merchants to flock to Xue, who then held out for Wu Qihao. When Wu Qihao didn't appear (due to Manager Xi's advice), Ning Yi arranged for a friend to sow discord between Wu Qihao and Manager Xi. This led Wu Qihao to finally buy Xue’s silk at an exorbitant price.
This inflated price then incited the other silk merchants, who had signed normal-priced contracts, to demand higher prices from Wu Qihao, effectively draining all of Wu’s liquid capital and forcing him to borrow from underground money lenders. Ning Yi concluded by explaining that he had simply waited for the Northern war to conclude, then reopened Su’s with an innovative online ordering and home delivery system, completing the industry reform. Wu Qihao, astonished by the elaborate scheme, admitted his defeat.
Ning Yi further elaborated on his understanding of the political climate, foreseeing the cancellation of the tribute cloth due to the Jing-Liang conflict, asserting that no nation would willingly bow to another, and that the tribute business was never a long-term strategy. He highlighted that while Su’s could afford to wait out the changes, Wu’s could not. Despite his ruthlessness, Ning Yi expressed a strange admiration for Wu Qihao’s "boldness" and offered him a Su’s Cloth Store franchise manual.
Wu Qihao, surprisingly, accepted it with a thank you before leaving the Su family mansion in a daze. Following this, Ning Yi playfully asked Su Tan’er how she would reward him for securing such a major deal. Su Tan’er, with a happy glow, promised a reward. Su’s Cloth Store subsequently flourished, with endless customers praising their excellent service, and the Zhu Ji business also boomed.
Ning Yi asked Su Tan’er if she had any unfulfilled wishes, to which she promptly replied, "I want to have 30 more stores." Ning Yi diligently worked to fulfill this, and the businesses continued to expand. The Su family rapidly ascended to become the richest in Jiangning. The Elder Master, reviewing the impressive financial records, showered Ning Yi and Su Tan’er with praise, acknowledging their exceptional talent.
He declared his complete trust in Su Tan’er to hold the "Family Representative Seal," confirming that from then on, no one would dare question a woman's authority in the family business.
He then emphasized the family’s ancestral motto, "Protect and hand over the family business while helping the world become better," and announced the family’s decision to open "sheds to give out porridge" to aid the impoverished, stating, "We gained our success because of them, and we also pay them back with it." He sternly warned the Second Master’s family to remain loyal to Su Tan’er and the family, or face expulsion.
Moved by Ning Yi's influence (after he gave him a book), Su Tan'er's father, for the first time, bravely patted her head and told her she had "worked hard," a gesture that brought great joy to Su Tan’er, signifying a long-awaited improvement in their relationship. The next day, as the Su family distributed porridge and new clothes to the needy, the people of Jiangning lauded them as a paragon of generosity among merchants.
Later, as Ning Yi and Su Tan’er walked home, discussing hot pot, they were ambushed by Manager Xi and his men. Ning Yi instinctively pushed Su Tan’er away, but Manager Xi seized her, using her as a hostage to force Ning Yi to drop his hidden firearm. Ning Yi was brutally beaten, but just as he was about to collapse, a mysterious projectile struck one of the attackers.
Seizing the opportunity, Ning Yi retrieved his repaired firearm and fired a shot at Manager Xi’s feet, scaring off the assailants. From the shadows, Lu Hongti emerged, having saved Ning Yi. She then presented him with a book titled "300 Moves of Practical Martial Arts." Ning Yi, excited to finally learn martial arts, declared he would adopt the moniker "Bloody Slaughter." Lu Hongti then revealed her own name: Lu Hongti. Ning Yi, ever playful, remarked that her name sounded "delicious" before being chided by his new Master to begin his training.
