Lv Ao learned about Lv Che's actions toward Mi Qiqi in the West Yard, suspecting Lv Che had ulterior motives and becoming increasingly displeased. Lv Ao's maid, Yinzi, wasn't mentioned regarding this matter. Meanwhile, Consort Yin found out about Lv Che's interference in the affairs of the West Yard and believed that Mi Qiqi had bewitched him.
Lv Che apologized to his mother, claiming he was temporarily blinded by infatuation and would not do anything foolish again, and that he knew that he and Mi Qiqi could not be together. Consort Yin was delighted, believing that Lv Che, with his noble status, would find a better woman, claiming the more distinguished he was, the more women would be taken with him.
In the West Yard, the aunt in charge continued to mistreat Mi Qiqi despite having received money from Lv Che, ordering her to do hard labor. One night, Mi Qiqi dreamt of Lv Ao, but when she awoke, she was alone. Zhao, a crazy woman who was a maid, got close to Mi Qiqi, and the two cleaned toilets and washed clothes together, finding joy in their difficult situation.
Mi Qiqi felt safer with Zhao around, but Zhao's snoring kept her awake at night. In a dream, Lv Ao saw Mi Qiqi in the West Yard. Lv Che then appeared, wanting to take Mi Qiqi away from her misery, and Mi Qiqi gladly accepted. Lv Ao tried to stop them, but Mi Qiqi resented Lv Ao for imprisoning her and preventing others from helping her escape, and then killed herself in front of Lv Ao.
Lv Ao woke up in shock, calling out Mi Qiqi's name. The next morning, servants brought Zhao a lavish meal, leading Mi Qiqi to wonder about Consort Yin's background, given that even her maid was treated so well. Zhao told Mi Qiqi that Consort Yin used to like fruits. King Yi Qi missed Mi Qiqi and constantly hallucinated her presence, becoming increasingly irritable. He challenged Wei Xun to a sword fight to vent his emotions, bewildering Wei Xun.
He lashed out at Wei Xun because he was thinking of Mi Qiqi. Mi Qiqi inquired about Zhao's background from the person delivering her food, learning that Zhao was Consort Yin's personal maid and that Consort Yin was Lv Ao's birth mother. The person told Mi Qiqi that Consort Yin was once highly favored but eventually died in the West Yard. Mi Qiqi found a portrait of Consort Yin and noticed a familiar seal.
Mi Qiqi said she saw this seal at Lv Ao's place, and guessed that the painting was a gift from the late king to Consort Yin. Zhao became agitated upon hearing the late king's name, angrily denouncing the late king's love as a lie and blaming him for Consort Yin's death. Lv Ao, drunk and distraught, mistook Yinzi for Mi Qiqi and tried to kiss him, but Yinzi screamed.
Lv Ao then stumbled to the door of Consort Yin's room in the West Yard, where Mi Qiqi opened the door, and asked if he came to see her. Sensing an impending transformation, Lv Ao warned Mi Qiqi to leave immediately, but she didn't understand. Unable to control himself, Lv Ao transformed, his hair turning white, and bit her neck before both of them lost consciousness. When Lv Ao awoke, he found himself tied up.
Mi Qiqi, scared, kept her distance, explaining she feared him turning into the beast again. Lv Ao realized Mi Qiqi had never seen his transformed state before, making him realize he had been mistaken about her. Lv Ao checked Mi Qiqi's wound, kissing her after seeing she was unharmed. Lv Ao apologized for suspecting her and causing her so much suffering. Mi Qiqi vowed to keep his secret, and they embraced. Lv Ao told Mi Qiqi that he believed her.
