Gao Zhan was stunned upon witnessing his mother and Ni Dapeng's father together. He quickly turned and left, but his mother, along with Ni Dapeng and his father, tried to stop him to explain. Gao Zhan questioned Ni Dapeng for his silence, which he had previously found suspicious. Gao Zhan’s mother defended Ni Dapeng, stating she had asked him to keep it a secret.
Gao Zhan then expressed his disapproval of Ni Dapeng's father, asking his mother if she truly knew what kind of person he was. Ni Dapeng's father reacted defensively, while Ni Dapeng urged calm. Gao Zhan declared he would never support the relationship before departing alone, looking wistfully at a happy family playing nearby. The next day, Gao Zhan did not return home and was absent from school.
The teacher noticed Gao Zhan's uncharacteristic lateness and called his mother, who had no news of him. The classmates worried, speculating if he was sick or simply playing truant. Ni Dapeng then revealed the reason for Gao Zhan's absence, explaining that his own father was dating Gao Zhan's mother. She revealed she had a detailed "Gao's Observation Notebook" which contained information about his favorite places. Concerned, Mrs. Gao, Ni Dapeng, and his father went to the police.
There, Mrs. Gao asked Ni Dapeng if he had said something to upset Gao Zhan at school. Ni Dapeng explained the real issue was what Gao Zhan had witnessed: his mother and Ni Dapeng's father on a bed together. Ni Dapeng's father quickly clarified they were merely testing a mattress. Having searched everywhere, including Gao Zhan's father's grave, Xu Jingjing and Kang Jiawei decided to check the "Phoenix Paintball Base," a closed-down place Xu Jingjing found in her notebook.
They found Gao Zhan there and brought him food. Gao Zhan revealed the base was where his father used to take him every Children's Day. He confessed he wasn't ready to accept his mother falling in love again, fearing it would mean abandoning his late father. Xu Jingjing reassured him that memories, like Children's Day, are never truly lost.
Understanding he still couldn't face his mother, Xu Jingjing signaled Kang Jiawei, who offered his home as a temporary residence on the condition that Gao Zhan return to school. Gao Zhan moved in with Kang Jiawei, whose father, Kang Minzhi, insisted they share a bed, much to Kang Jiawei's discomfort. The next morning, Gao Zhan's attempt at a kind gesture with a peeled egg was awkwardly rebuffed by Kang Jiawei, who then assured Gao Zhan he wasn't avoiding him.
At school, Gao Zhan apologized for worrying everyone. Kang Jiawei later delighted Xu Jingjing with an autographed design portfolio from his father. In a private moment, Kang Jiawei confided in Xu Jingjing that Gao Zhan had asked Jingjing Xu out. Later, a heated argument erupted between Ni Dapeng and Niu Junfeng, who was mocking the new relationship. As they nearly came to blows, Wang Jiayao intervened, fiercely scolding Niu Junfeng and his friends for their gossip and personal hygiene.
Both Lu Xiaobai and Ni Dapeng were stunned by her ferocity, leading Ni Dapeng to believe she might have a romantic interest in him. Later, Gao Zhan and Xu Jingjing went to a restaurant where they encountered her father working part-time. Gao Zhan announced he was there to find a new partner for his mother, refusing to accept a "nouveau riche" like Ni Dapeng's father. After some initial confusion, Mr. Xu understood Gao Zhan was seeking a stepfather.
Gao Zhan described his mother's qualities but rejected potential candidates for being bald, old, or overweight. He impatiently urged Mr. Xu to find a "lecturer" type quickly, providing his mother's number and instructing him to say "her son signed up for her." Xu Jingjing confronted Gao Zhan for his prejudice and for acting impulsively without his mother's consent, arguing that his feelings shouldn't dictate his mother's happiness.
Following this, Gao Zhan invited Jingjing Xu to a new dance venue secured by Kang Jiawei’s father. Jingjing Xu arrived in a striking cyberpunk outfit, which inspired them to adopt a cyberpunk theme for her upcoming dance competition. Xu Jingjing volunteered to design the futuristic set. To hide her passion from her disapproving mother, Jingjing Xu wore a helmet while dancing.
During practice, she grew shy in front of Gao Zhan, so Xu Jingjing created a diversion by asking Gao Zhan for tutoring, allowing Jingjing Xu to practice. With only three days until the voting deadline, the group intensified their efforts. Gao Zhan and Jingjing Xu were tasked with acquiring professional equipment from the school's broadcasting team.
To maintain secrecy, Xu Jingjing’s mother helped by telling Jingjing Xu's mother their children were staying late for English tutoring, allowing them to work on the video. After successfully filming, using props that included Kang Minzhi's missing golden microphone and microwave, the group celebrated. They reviewed the finished video, which credited the production to "Discovery Whale Team," their group's self-proclaimed name, and jokingly bickered over roles. Jingjing Xu treated everyone to a meal, expressing her gratitude.
Kang Jiawei grandly suggested their next project should be a short film for Cannes, proclaiming himself the next Nolan, which Xu Jingjing humorously undercut by reminding him of his shaky hands. To cap off the night, Jingjing Xu proposed a game of "I Have, You Don't," where those lacking a shared experience had to eat a lemon.
After a few rounds, Ni Dapeng shared his unique situation: "My mom is dating a classmate's father," which made everyone, including himself, eat a lemon. Finally, it was Xu Jingjing’s turn, and she revealed, "I have a crush on someone in our class."
