The morning after their elopement, Zheng Dingding and Ning Weijin knelt outside Zheng Dingding’s parents’ home, seeking their blessing. Zheng Dingding's father covertly showed his support for Ning Weijin. Zheng Dingding’s mother agreed to allow them to continue their relationship, but with a strict condition: Ning Weijin’s family must genuinely accept Zheng Dingding. She warned that if Zheng Dingding were ever to be wronged again due to Ning Weijin’s father's attitude, she would never back down.
Ning Weijin assured her he would not let his father interfere and would handle his family, emphasizing his dislike for those who are unfaithful. Zheng Dingding’s mother clarified that while Ning Weijin could choose to ignore his father, she hoped their marriage would have the approval of both sets of parents and that Ning Weijin’s father would express a supportive attitude. She also shared her belief that true love means cherishing a person for a lifetime.
Meanwhile, Gao Ren reflected on a recent failed surgery, realizing his mind had been distracted by thoughts of "her." Later, Ning Weijin asked Gao Ren to pick up Ning Weixuan from work, as he was taking Zheng Dingding to meet his father. Gao Ren arrived at Ning Weixuan's cafe with a bouquet of flowers, which Ning Weixuan coldly declared she was "allergic to your flowers."
She rebuked him for being idle and lacking ambition, asking if he had any money to treat her to dinner. Gao Ren, in turn, offered to work as a waiter at her cafe, but Ning Weixuan refused. Just then, Dr. Xiang arrived and also invited Ning Weixuan to dinner. She readily accepted, much to Gao Ren's disappointment. Ning Weixuan told Gao Ren he should go clean cat litter, implying he was useless.
As Dr. Xiang ordered a coffee, Gao Ren eagerly volunteered to deliver it, but "accidentally" spilled it all over Dr. Xiang, claiming it was his first time doing such a thing. He told Dr. Xiang he couldn't possibly have dinner looking like that and should go change. After Dr. Xiang went to the restroom to clean up, Gao Ren followed, making mocking remarks.
Despite her outward coldness, once Gao Ren left, Ning Weixuan immediately asked Lei to arrange the flowers Gao Ren had brought, calling his actions "childish." Ning Weijin then took Zheng Dingding to his father’s house, announcing their decision to marry. His father retorted with sarcasm, asking if this was a "unilateral notification" or a request for "permission." Zheng Dingding politely clarified that they hoped for his consent.
Ning Weijin defended his presence as a sign of respect for his father’s role, urging him not to disappoint Zheng Dingding. Zheng Dingding, introducing herself politely to Yin Fei, explained that she and Ning Weijin were genuinely in love and hoped for their blessings, requesting Yin Fei’s help in persuading Ning’s father. Yin Fei agreed. In his study, Ning’s father was still angry.
Yin Fei tried to reason with him, suggesting that Ning Weijin seemed truly committed to Zheng Dingding and that Shu Yiran herself had moved on. Ning’s father admitted his primary concern was Zheng Dingding’s health, fearing that if anything happened to her, it would be another devastating blow to Ning Weijin, much like his mother’s passing from breast cancer. Yin Fei chided him for "cursing" the girl, but then acknowledged his underlying concern for Ning Weijin.
She proposed that Ning’s father make a gesture for Ning Weijin's upcoming birthday to mend their relationship, suggesting he buy him some suits. Back at his own home, Ning Weijin was visibly frustrated, taking his anger out on the cat. Ning Weixuan gently took the cat away, suggesting Ning Weijin and Zheng Dingding just proceed with their wedding without his father's approval.
Ning Weijin explained it was a test from Zheng Dingding’s parents that he had to pass to earn their trust. Ning Weixuan lamented, "If only mother were here, it won't be that complicated," a sentiment Ning Weijin shared, acknowledging their mother was now only a memory. Ning Weixuan visited Zheng Dingding, who sensed Ning Weixuan’s deep resentment towards their father and encouraged her to talk things out, suggesting there might have been misunderstandings when they were young.
Ning Weixuan vehemently rejected the idea, blaming her father's preoccupation with work for her mother's death. She believed her father was happy with Yin Fei and indifferent to them. Zheng Dingding disagreed, mentioning her own observations that Ning’s father seemed to miss them. Zheng Dingding argued that childhood perceptions might not reflect the full truth and urged for a sit-down conversation, but Ning Weixuan threatened to cut ties if Zheng Dingding continued to defend her father.
They then shifted the topic to Ning Weijin's upcoming birthday. Gao Ren was still struggling with his inability to handle a scalpel, making a return to the hospital seem distant. Ning Weixuan once again told him to go make money instead of being idle, and suggested he see a psychiatrist.
He briefly tried to enter the hospital but quickly left, making an excuse about another surgery, which Dr. Xiang (who was also there) mocked, inviting Ning Weixuan and Gao Ren for a weekend trip. Gao Ren declined. Later, Gao Ren saw a "Hiring" sign at Ning Weixuan's cafe and applied. Ning Weixuan rejected him outright, stating he was overage and didn't meet their "good-looking" criteria, even though he comically claimed to have just turned eighteen.
He pursued her into Zheng Dingding’s studio, pleading for the job. Zheng Dingding intervened, suggesting Ning Weixuan hire him, partly because the café only had one male staff member, Yunsheng, and also to help Gao Ren overcome his slump. Just then, a water pipe in the cafe’s restroom burst. Gao Ren immediately rushed to fix it, quickly repairing the pipe and cleaning up the water.
Impressed by his initiative and practical skills, and with Zheng Dingding’s further persuasion, Ning Weixuan finally agreed to give Gao Ren a three-day trial period. Yin Fei tried to see Ning Weijin at the hospital by taking a patient number, hoping to discuss Zheng Dingding. However, Ning Weijin showed no patience, immediately dismissing her and asking Miaomiao to call the next patient, leaving Yin Fei feeling helpless.
Unable to speak to Ning Weijin herself, Yin Fei sought out Zheng Dingding for help. Zheng Dingding advised Ning Weijin to talk to his father, suggesting that even if he couldn’t forgive him, he should at least give him an opportunity to explain himself. A few days before Ning Weijin’s birthday, Ning’s father consulted Yin Fei about picking out suits for Ning Weijin.
He expressed doubts about finding something suitable without knowing Ning Weijin's size and his inability to meet his son. Ning Weijin unexpectedly returned home. Ning’s father quickly hid behind a newspaper, but Yin Fei encouraged him to face his son and left to prepare food, giving them a chance to talk.
Their conversation, however, was stiff and formal, with Ning Weijin even asking his father about his health and offering a check-up, prompting his father to ask if he was "making a house call." Yin Fei soon returned with a fruit platter to ease the awkward atmosphere. After Ning Weijin left, Ning’s father couldn't hide a faint smile. Yin Fei, noticing his subtle happiness, pointed out his stubborn yet soft-hearted nature, similar to his son’s.
She reminded him that Zheng Dingding had encouraged Ning Weijin to come for dinner, meaning he "owed her a lot." Yin Fei shared her positive impression of Zheng Dingding, urging Ning’s father to accept her. She suggested that on Ning Weijin’s birthday, his father should give his explicit approval, as that would be the most meaningful gift. Meanwhile, Gao Ren attempted to peel an apple with a fruit knife at home, but his hand still trembled uncontrollably.
Ning Weixuan returned late, and when Gao Ren asked if she had been out with Dr. Xiang, she coldly replied, "It's none of your business." On Ning Weijin's birthday, Ning’s father went to the mall to choose clothes for him, but ultimately bought a different gift as he didn't know Ning Weijin's size. Yin Fei had earlier suggested he ask Zheng Dingding for the size.
Before heading to Ning Weijin's house, Ning's father was advised to be kind to Zheng Dingding. Zheng Dingding planned a surprise birthday dinner for Ning Weijin, asking Ning Weixuan to keep him occupied while she prepared. Zheng Dingding arrived at Ning Weijin's house using a key given by Ning Weixuan. As she played with the cat, Ning’s father unexpectedly arrived. Zheng Dingding, flustered, quickly explained she had just arrived and was there to prepare the meal.
Ning’s father, who disliked cats, found cat hair everywhere. He became visibly agitated and, taking out a vacuum cleaner, put on a doctor’s coat and a mask to clean the living room. His demeanor and posture were strikingly similar to Ning Weijin’s, which made Zheng Dingding laugh. She commented on how Ning Weijin behaved the same way at home, also hating cat hair, and only had the cat because Ning Weixuan insisted.
Zheng Dingding remarked that Ning Weijin was truly his father’s "spitting image," which brought a rare smile to Ning’s father’s face. Satisfied with Zheng Dingding's diligent cooking, Ning’s father sat down. When Ning Weijin and Ning Weixuan returned, Ning Weijin questioned Ning Weixuan about the surprise, reminiscing about how they used to celebrate their birthdays together.
