In a private room, everyone gathered to celebrate Gao Ren's birthday. Shu Yiran reminisced about her college days when she and Ning Weijin sang "Dimples" together for a campus singing competition, winning first prize. Gao Ren, with a hint of jealousy, wished he could have sung with her back then. Shu Yiran then asked for "Dimples" to be played, seemingly hoping to sing it with Ning Weijin again.
Ning Weixuan, however, interjected, noting that her brother was forced into that duet. Ning Weijin then gracefully suggested that since it was Gao Ren's birthday, Gao Ren and Shu Yiran should sing "Dimples" to fulfill Gao Ren's past regret. He added that he personally dislikes singing and would only sing with Dingding in the future, much to Ning Weixuan's amusement and Shu Yiran's chagrin. Gao Ren and Shu Yiran then began singing the song.
Meanwhile, at Chengpin, Wen Zixin was working late when an old friend called. Her friend praised Chengpin's successful PR event and offered Wen Zixin an audition for a supporting role in a TV series, scheduled for Friday in Beijing. Wen Zixin hesitated, citing her busy schedule, but her friend insisted, warning that she might need a career change if she couldn't make it. Wen Zixin promised to try her best.
Soon after, Chen Xun returned from an unsuccessful meeting and offered her the position of Vice Manager at Chengpin. Wen Zixin playfully mentioned wanting to return to acting, to which Chen Xun casually remarked that he hadn't seen her take any roles, which saddened her slightly. They discussed their scheduled Friday flight to Inner Mongolia to meet with Mr. Liu. Chen Xun confirmed that rescheduling was difficult, so Wen Zixin, concealing her dilemma, assured him she was available.
She then sent a WeChat message to her friend, declining the audition. However, Chen Xun later informed her the trip to Inner Mongolia was canceled. Seeing her frustration, but misinterpreting it as work-related fatigue, he invited her to a resort for the weekend instead. Back at the party, as cake was served, Dingding cut a piece for Ning Weijin. Shu Yiran quickly pointed out Ning Weijin's mango allergy, implicitly criticizing Dingding for her oversight.
Ning Weijin brushed it off, stating he simply wouldn't eat the mango. He then explained to Dingding that his upcoming work on a new research topic would make him very busy in the coming months, limiting his time with her, which Dingding understood. Ning Weixuan, seizing the moment, turned to Shu Yiran and, while seemingly talking to Dingding, advised Shu Yiran to keep a close watch on Ning Weijin at the hospital.
She warned against "secret admirers" exploiting work opportunities to disrupt his relationship with Dingding. Shu Yiran, clearly understanding Ning Weixuan's veiled taunt, announced she felt unwell and abruptly left the room. Outside, Gao Ren caught up to Shu Yiran, apologizing for Ning Weixuan's immaturity. Shu Yiran retorted sarcastically, implying that Gao Ren and Ning Weixuan were well-suited, especially after she was his dance partner.
Gao Ren quickly clarified that he had not attended the dance event, explaining that his participation was solely for Shu Yiran, and without her, it held no meaning. Shu Yiran remained unimpressed and walked away. As Gao Ren turned back, he saw a tearful Ning Weixuan, who had overheard their entire exchange. She confronted Gao Ren, demanding to know if he could ever like her.
When he remained silent, she tearfully accepted his unspoken answer, vowed never to bother him again, handed him a handmade birthday gift, and left. Ning Weijin and Dingding then emerged, and Ning Weijin sternly warned Gao Ren to stay away from Ning Weixuan. Gao Ren, feeling bewildered, lamented that everyone was blaming him. Later that evening, Ning Weixuan, deeply distraught, went to a bar alone and drank heavily.
When some young men started harassing her, Dr. Xiang unexpectedly intervened, fighting them off. He then recognized Ning Weixuan, and she, still in her drunken state, launched into a furious tirade against Gao Ren. Dr. Xiang, revealing he worked at the same hospital and also found Gao Ren annoying, agreed with her. Finding common ground, they started dancing together. As Ning Weixuan stumbled out of the bar, Ning Weijin arrived to pick up his intoxicated sister.
Ning Weixuan introduced Dr. Xiang, thanking him for defending her. Dr. Xiang introduced himself as Xiang Qian, Gao Ren's colleague, to Ning Weijin before leaving. The next morning, Ning Weixuan awoke to find Ning Weijin had prepared lunch for her. She apologized for her behavior, admitting she was wrong to go to the bar alone.
Ning Weijin gently advised her to use this time to calmly reflect on her path forward, whether to pursue her feelings for Gao Ren or let them go. He also suggested she change her hairstyle back, as it didn't suit her. Later, driven by jealousy, Shu Yiran went to the gym to vent her frustrations.
Gao Ren found her there and told her she had changed from the confident and kind person she once was into someone who was irritable and manipulative. He bluntly advised her to give up on Ning Weijin, but she stubbornly refused, declaring that Ning Weijin was hers. She warned Gao Ren that if he wouldn't help her, they were no longer friends. Gao Ren sadly stated he couldn't help her, and she stormed off.
At the hospital, Shu Yiran and Ning Weijin discussed the difficult case of Wang Minying, a patient who was five months pregnant with stage-three gestational breast cancer. Shu Yiran was desperate to find a way to save both the mother and the baby, but Ning Weijin initially stated that doctors were not gods. Later, as Dingding arrived at the hospital, Shu Yiran brought up the case again, arguing with Ning Weijin's view that they should prioritize saving the mother.
To prove her point, Shu Yiran asked Dingding for her opinion. Dingding suggested that they should respect the patient's wishes and strive for a solution that could save both, a view with which Ning Weijin smiled and agreed. Motivated, Ning Weijin buried himself in research and discovered a paper by Dr. Dana from the Royal Academy of Medicine, USA, on a treatment using a classical chemotherapy drug that could protect both mother and fetus.
He proposed consulting Dr. Dana's student, Dr. Zhou Chen at Yimin Hospital, to finalize their plan. Shu Yiran was thrilled. Ning Weijin assigned Shu Yiran the task of communicating the risks to the family, while he focused on the operation. After meeting with Dr. Zhou Chen, they proceeded with the complex surgery on Wang Minying, which was successful. However, post-operative recovery remained a concern. Exhausted, Ning Weijin fell asleep in the operating room's dressing room.
Dingding arrived at the hospital with homemade soup for him. Miao Miaomiao, Ning Weijin's assistant, led Dingding into the aseptic area. Shu Yiran intercepted them, sternly reprimanding Miaomiao for breaching protocol and scolding Dingding for entering an unauthorized area. Ning Weijin, awakened by the commotion, emerged. Shu Yiran continued her criticism, now directed at Ning Weijin, for not ensuring his girlfriend adhered to hospital rules.
Ning Weijin calmly asked a disheartened Dingding to wait outside and instructed Miaomiao to inform him directly of her visits in the future. After Ning Weijin changed, he and Shu Yiran exited the operating room. Shu Yiran linked her arm through his, proposing they co-author a paper on the case and invited him to dinner. Ning Weijin gently removed her arm, explaining he was going to eat the soup Dingding had prepared.
Casting a knowing glance at Dingding, Shu Yiran casually remarked that since she and Weijin saw each other every day, one evening wouldn't make a difference, which hurt Dingding deeply. Later, as they ate, Ning Weijin noticed Dingding's quiet demeanor and asked what was wrong. Dingding hesitantly inquired about his relationship with Shu Yiran. He explained they often partnered in college but less so now, and playfully accused her of jealousy.
Confiding in Xiaofeng, Dingding expressed her growing unease with Shu Yiran. Xiaofeng confirmed Shu Yiran's possessive feelings, likening her behavior to an animal "protecting its prey," and advised Dingding to counter this by being an even more thoughtful girlfriend. Separately, Ning Weijin also sought out Xiaofeng, who advised him to avoid discussing work matters with Shu Yiran in front of Dingding, as girlfriends disliked being ignored by their partners.
