Love in Time Recap
Episode 1 Recap
The wedding ceremony begins as the bride, Su Jianan, walks down the aisle with the groom, Lu Boyan. The officiant invites the groom to kiss his bride. Lu Boyan cups Su Jianan’s face and leans in, but Su Jianan’s internal thoughts reveal her reluctance, feeling forced into a shameful situation. Internally, Su Jianan laments the sorrow of her wedding, questioning how she ended up marrying such a manipulative man, and expressing a fear of being labeled a mistress.
The story flashes back to three days prior, detailing the circumstances that led to this unexpected marriage. Lu Boyan, a renowned entrepreneur in Taoran City, has gained significant popularity and is often referred to as the “national husband” due to his striking appearance and successful investments. His company, Lu’s Media, manages top-tier celebrity Han Ruoxi, and rumors suggest a deep connection between the two. At this time, Lu Boyan is preparing to invest in Tao ran Literature Network.
He notices that the latest chapter of Su Jianan’s novel, "Lin Nan murder", has been replaced by an advertisement. This sparks a memory of Su Jianan from their school days, when she was overweight, wore glasses, and cried often, leading to her being mocked as “Underwear Queen Su Jianan.”
Meanwhile, Su Jianan, a dedicated novelist for Tao ran Literature Network, is frustrated that her ongoing novel, "Lin Nan murder", has been abruptly suspended and replaced by an advertisement for an underwear gifting event from Su’s beauty Group. She immediately suspects her father, the owner of Su’s beauty Group, is behind this. Her suspicions are confirmed when a delivery arrives with an invitation for her to return to Taoran City and inherit Su’s beauty Group.
She realizes her father spent a substantial amount on advertising to force her hand. Su Jianan travels from Donghai City back to Taoran City, where her childhood friend Jiang Shaokai picks her up. Jiang Shaokai, known for his flirtatious nature, assures her he’s made time for her. Su Jianan vents her frustration, recounting how her father has always interfered with her writing career, even buying out public accounts she wrote for or driving out screenwriters she worked with.
Jiang Shaokai advises her to confront her father directly. At her father’s office, Su Jianan pleads for her novel to be reinstated. Her father, however, dismisses her writing as unprofitable and impractical, suggesting she inherit his successful underwear company. He reminds her of their old written agreement: if she couldn’t achieve success in her writing, she would return home and inherit the business.
Su Jianan, desperate to avoid becoming the "Underwear Queen," proposes a new agreement: she will return home with a successful novel and a handsome son-in-law within three years. Her father agrees, but then reveals their college agreement is still valid and there are only 36 hours left for her to find a husband before the shares of the company are legally transferred to her name.
Su Jianan protests, claiming she already has a boyfriend and they are planning to marry, but her father demands she present a satisfactory son-in-law. Su Jianan then heads to Tao ran Literature Network hoping to resolve the issue of her novel. There, she encounters Chen Xuanxuan, an author known as the "Romantic Queen of Taoran Literature Network" and an assistant to President Du. Chen Xuanxuan initially tries to dismiss Su Jianan, stating President Du is busy.
However, Su Jianan sees Lu Boyan and mistakenly assumes he is the president. She angrily confronts him, accusing him of using sponsorship to stop her novel and of bullying her in school. She declares she will not tolerate his actions. Lu Boyan, observing her fiery demeanor, comments on her unreasonableness, while a flashback reveals a younger Lu Boyan protecting a younger Su Jianan from other bullies, asserting that "only I can bully her."
Back in the present, Lu Boyan finds the company's valuation satisfactory and confirms with President Du that they will sign the investment agreement in five days. As if casually, Lu Boyan then inquires about "Lin Nan murder", asking why it's no longer available, prompting President Du to immediately promise its restoration. With the novel issue still unresolved, Su Jianan seeks help from her best friend, Luo Xiaoxi, and Jiang Shaokai.
A loyal reader, "oterians," suggests online that she find a quick marriage at a park blind date corner as a last resort. Luo Xiaoxi then proposes Jiang Shaokai as a suitable candidate to trick her father. Jiang Shaokai confidently agrees, believing his extensive knowledge of Su Jianan will make the deception seamless. However, during a staged meeting with her father, Jiang Shaokai’s eagerness leads him to prematurely address him as "Dad."
Su Jianan's father, highly perceptive, exposes their charade by asking a simple question about Su Jianan's preference for sweet or salty tofu, which Jiang Shaokai answers incorrectly. Her father pays the bill, leaving them with just 24 hours. Running out of options, Su Jianan resorts to the park blind date corner.
Her attempts to find a suitor are comically sabotaged by two elderly women who, under the guise of helping, spread rumors about her being a spendthrift, scaring away potential mother-in-laws. Unbeknownst to Su Jianan, Lu Boyan’s assistant, Yuechuan, is secretly overseeing the sabotages, pleased that his boss’s instructions are being carried out. Simultaneously, Lu Boyan's mother, Aunt Tang, attempts to set him up with various women.
He declines, instead suggesting she visit the park blind date corner if she truly wishes to find an "ordinary girl" for him. Aunt Tang agrees and asks him to join her for dinner. At the blind date corner, Aunt Tang spots Su Jianan and recognizes her, praising her grown-up appearance. Aunt Tang, noticing Su Jianan is single, invites her to dinner. Lu Boyan joins them.
During the meal, Aunt Tang praises Lu Boyan's success and single status, subtly implying he would be a good match for Su Jianan. Su Jianan's phone rings, it's her father, reminding her of the impending deadline. Frustrated, she tells him she won't inherit the company and refuses to marry just anyone. Lu Boyan, who has been observing her distress, suddenly appears beside her and declares, "I will marry you."
The next morning, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan arrive at the marriage registration office. Su Jianan initially resists marrying Lu Boyan, citing his public association with Han Ruoxi and her fear of being labeled a mistress. She also accuses him of disrespecting her love for literature by stopping her novel. Lu Boyan clarifies that his previous visit to the literature network was merely a coincidence and that their marriage would be a secret to avoid public scrutiny.
Su Jianan then questions his motives, speculating he might be pressured by Aunt Tang or be after her family's wealth. Lu Boyan prepares to leave, but Su Jianan stops him, acknowledging her desperate situation and accepting his help. They agree to a one-year contract, outlining three key terms: no physical contact, no interference in each other’s lives, and a clause added by Su Jianan forbidding either of them from seeing other people during the marriage.
At the registration office, as they pose for their marriage certificate photo, both sets of parents unexpectedly arrive. Su Jianan's father and Aunt Tang are overjoyed, quickly urging them to call them "Dad" and "Mom." While Su Jianan’s father initially desires a grand wedding, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan explain their preference for a low-key, secret marriage for one year, allowing Su Jianan to focus on her novel.
The parents agree, and arrange a hotel room for the newlyweds that night. In the hotel room, Aunt Tang playfully throws items symbolizing fertility, while Su Jianan’s father subtly questions if their marriage is merely a contract. Lu Boyan dismisses his concern, implying it isn't the case. After the parents leave, Su Jianan attempts to escape the room, threatening to tell Aunt Tang that Lu Boyan bullied her.
Aunt Tang briefly returns for a forgotten bag, understanding the situation and leaving them alone. Su Jianan calls Lu Boyan a "rogue," while he tells her she should blame her father for their predicament. He teases her, saying he has no interest in "little girls," to which she indignantly replies she is 25. He retorts that she acts like a five-year-old, concluding they are "a perfect match."
The following day, at the wedding ceremony, Lu Boyan ensures all hotel staff and the officiant have signed confidentiality agreements, instructing the officiant to cooperate with his plans. As the moment for the kiss arrives, Su Jianan challenges Lu Boyan, who responds that they must complete the charade.
Su Jianan's father, watching from the audience, reflects that he had to push his daughter into this, and that he would have planned a grander wedding if the couple hadn't insisted on simplicity. Internally, Su Jianan resigns herself to the beginning of her absurd married life.
Episode 2 Recap
Upon the commencement of their newlywed life, Su Jianan moved into Lu Boyan's spacious villa. She expressed concern about the potential for theft in such a large house, but Lu Boyan's butler, Xu Bo, assured her that the villa was equipped with an intelligent anti-theft system. He explained that a single button press would seal the entire house, disconnecting all networks and power, making escape impossible for intruders.
Impressed by this, Su Jianan then received a call from President Du, who informed her that her novel, "Lin Nan Murder," could resume updates and she had one day to submit the next chapter. Later, Xu Bo explained that Lu Boyan had vacated his own master bedroom and specially redecorated it to provide Su Jianan with a better creative environment, including her new study.
However, upon seeing the study filled with pink and fluffy items, Su Jianan exclaimed her frustration, wondering how she could write a murder mystery in such a "girlish room." She then discovered her assigned bedroom was also quite large and asked Xu Bo if she could have a smaller one, even without a bed, but he politely declined, stating he was simply following Lu Boyan's arrangements.
Meanwhile, at Taoran Literature Network, President Du discussed with his assistant that Lu Boyan was surprisingly interested in Su Jianan's novel, deeming its timely updates crucial for securing Lu's investment. This was a strategy to "give him what he likes." Concurrently, Lu Boyan chaired a meeting to discuss the acquisition of Taoran Literature Network.
The analysis presented highlighted that Taoran, primarily a female-frequency novel platform, needed to cut off its male-frequency novels to thrive, as derivative markets like games and film/TV, while aimed at female audiences, were showing fatigue. Lu Boyan and the partners agreed to cut the male-frequency section to focus on strengthening the female-frequency aspect.
Struggling with her "Lin Nan Murder" chapter, particularly how to portray her female agent character using feminine charm to gather information, Su Jianan lamented her lack of inspiration in the overly sweet-looking room. She called her friend Xiao Xi for advice. Xiao Xi, confident in her skills, dressed Su Jianan in a sexy little black dress and took her to a bar, demonstrating how to approach men for information.
Before entering, Xiao Xi took a photo of Su Jianan and posted it on her social media, where Lu Boyan, who Xiao Xi had added on WeChat during Su Jianan's wedding, liked it. Lu Boyan, still in his meeting discussing the significant liquidated damages involved in terminating contracts with 321 male-frequency authors, and the possibility of transitioning some to female-frequency, saw the picture and immediately left.
Just then, an old classmate of Su Jianan's, Zhang Junkai, approached her at the bar. While Xiao Xi disappeared, Su Jianan, unable to grasp the "flirting" techniques, drank heavily by herself, leading to her becoming thoroughly inebriated by the time Lu Boyan arrived and found her. The next morning, Su Jianan awoke with a throbbing headache, embarrassed by her behavior the previous night.
She entered the bathroom, only to find Lu Boyan stepping out of the shower, his hair dripping wet. He explained it was originally his bathroom and he hadn't changed his habits yet. Their awkward banter continued, with him commenting on her shyness. This encounter, however, unexpectedly sparked her creativity for her novel, leading her to write a scene about her character, Lin Nan, observing a wounded man with deep, captivating eyes.
At lunchtime, Xu Bo invited Su Jianan downstairs, but she refused, citing her novel's stalled progress and lack of appetite. Lu Boyan, without a word, used a remote to disable the internet, forcing her to come downstairs.
As they ate, he sternly reminded her of their agreement to avoid "flirting" after marriage, accusing her of "drinking and having fun with the opposite sex" at the bar, and stating that as a member of the Lu family, she must follow their rules. Su Jianan retorted, accusing him of hypocrisy given his frequent public appearances and rumored relationship with Han Ruoxi, and reminded him of their agreement not to interfere with each other's private lives.
Her phone then rang; it was President Du's assistant, Xuanxuan, informing her that she no longer needed to update her novel. Unaware of the business dealings regarding the male-frequency cut, Su Jianan adamantly insisted she could complete it. Determined to continue writing, she grabbed her laptop and headed for the door, but Lu Boyan, calmly using the remote, locked it, preventing her exit.
Incensed, Su Jianan snatched the remote, but in their struggle, she accidentally pressed the anti-theft button, triggering a system crash that locked them both inside the villa with no way to communicate with the outside world. To make matters worse, while her phone had no signal, Lu Boyan's rang – it was President Du. Seizing the opportunity, Su Jianan grabbed his phone and turned it off, declaring that if she couldn't work, neither could he.
Meanwhile, President Du and Xuanxuan waited anxiously for Lu Boyan, realizing he might be intentionally delaying the signing of the investment contract. President Du lamented the crippling liquidated damages they would incur from already terminating contracts with male-frequency authors, concluding that Lu Boyan was orchestrating a cunning strategy to pressure him into a lower investment price. Later that night, around ten o'clock, Su Jianan was loudly role-playing her characters, disrupting Lu Boyan's sleep.
He confronted her, and their conversation unexpectedly shifted into a collaborative brainstorming session for her novel. Lu Boyan, despite his initial annoyance, became deeply involved, suggesting a complex backstory for the villain Chen Mo and the female detective Lin Nan, where Chen Mo had altered his appearance to protect Lin Nan five years prior, leading to their eventual marriage and a "happily ever after."
Su Jianan was surprised by the sudden influx of "sweet pet" elements in her story but Lu Boyan insisted that modern novels need an emotional line to be popular. As dawn broke, they finally finished the manuscript. Lu Boyan, without rest, had to rush off to a cocktail party. At the Xiyue Hotel, Lu Boyan, accompanied by Han Ruoxi, socialized with various business partners, holding up drinks and appearing to be in pleasant conversation.
President Du, who had been impatiently waiting for Lu Boyan, also arrived at the hotel. Meanwhile, Su Jianan, after uploading her updated novel, received a call from President Du confirming the termination of her contract. Distraught, she rushed to the hotel to plead for another chance, explaining her delay was due to special circumstances and that she had modified the story according to his earlier advice.
President Du, visibly annoyed, rudely dismissed her, telling her to check the negative comments on her latest chapter and declaring her unsuitable for the industry. Unbeknownst to them, Lu Boyan had been subtly observing their entire interaction from a distance.
Episode 3 Recap
At a social event, President Du, clearly annoyed by Su Jianan, curtly dismissed her, urging her to leave quickly. Su Jianan quietly retreated, allowing President Du to shift his focus to Lu Boyan, eagerly discussing investment. President Du mentioned he had complied with Lu Boyan's request to cut male frequency novels and and asked if they could proceed with the contract based on their valuation.
Lu Boyan then revealed his deep interest in "Lin Nan Murder," stating he had been "addicted" to it. He confirmed the author was part of Tao ran Literature Network and, considering them "very potential" due to their broad appeal across genres, offered to invest at the original agreed valuation if the author remained. President Du was surprised by Lu Boyan's unusual interest in the author but agreed to cooperate, planning to retain Su Jianan later.
Outside, a dejected Su Jianan reflected on her writing career, feeling like a failure after President Du's contract termination. She questioned if she should abandon her long-standing dream. Lu Boyan approached her, challenging her self-doubt. He reminded her that her eyes "shine" when she creates, signifying her passion and enjoyment, and that he could feel the "temperature of the text" in her work, connecting it to her "Role generation creation method."
He advised her against letting others' opinions define her, recalling his own experience of being underestimated when he took over his company. He emboldened her by reminding her that since she "dared to marry me" for writing, she shouldn't be afraid to start over, simply writing another book if this one was stopped.
Just as Lu Boyan anticipated, Su Jianan received a call from President Du, who apologized for his earlier demeanor and suggested they "continue to cooperate," inviting her for a detailed discussion at the company the following day. Later, Lu Boyan successfully finalized the investment in Tao ran Literature Network. While discussing Su Jianan's potential with President Du, Lu Boyan commended her talent, creativity, and writing style, highlighting the promising future of female-oriented works, particularly for film and TV adaptations.
He then subtly advised President Du to encourage Su Jianan to "try some romance-themed" works, suggesting she "find inspiration from people around you, like me," which he believed would significantly aid her writing. President Du understood Lu Boyan's "old-fashioned tricks" and agreed, with Lu Boyan emphasizing that his investment in the literature network must be kept a "secret" from Su Jianan. As Lu Boyan left the Tao ran Literature Network, he encountered Su Jianan, who was arriving.
Shen Yuechuan, also present, greeted Su Jianan as "sister-in-law," prompting a flustered Lu Boyan to make a quick exit, claiming he had other matters to attend to. Shen Yuechuan teasingly questioned if Lu Boyan now intended to be Su Jianan's "creative consultant for romance novels," noting that Lu Boyan's "routines are definitely very, very deep." Inside Tao ran Literature Network, President Du greeted Su Jianan effusively, praising her writing as "brilliant" and "outstanding" after having thoroughly read her work.
He apologized for their earlier misunderstanding and expressed his intention to "focus on cultivating" her, encouraging her to diversify into new styles and themes. He confidently asserted her potential, citing a specific detailed passage from her previous novel about the description of women's intimate wear as proof of her ability to handle delicate descriptions, and promised her entity book publication if she performed well enough to be in the company's top ten female authors.
Su Jianan selected a project titled "Overbearing President's Warm-Married New Wife." She began writing with initial determination, but her confidence soon waned as she struggled with the "sweet pet style" and "ambiguous" scenes, a stark contrast to her usual suspense novels. Overwhelmed, Su Jianan desperately called her friends, Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai, for help. She expressed her struggle with writing romance, especially "overbearing president" and "little wife" narratives, given her lack of dating experience.
Luo Xiaoxi suggested she draw inspiration from her own life and use Lu Boyan as a "ready-made character prototype." Su Jianan immediately rejected this, citing her contractual marriage to Lu Boyan and her refusal to be a "mistress," pointing out Han Ruoxi as his "official match." Jiang Shaokai then proposed a clichéd opening scene involving a collision and an apology, which Su Jianan deemed "old-fashioned" and "clichéd."
After some playful bickering about his "actual combat experience" and Luo Xiaoxi calling him a "scumbag," Jiang Shaokai acted out a "sweet pet" scenario: he, as "General Manager Jiang," had coffee spilled on him by "secretary" Luo Xiaoxi. Instead of anger, he confessed his desire to "fall in love with you" and offered her coffee.
Luo Xiaoxi took the scene to a more "shameful" level, leading to a heated argument between the two friends about the appropriateness of office romance, with each calling the other a "disaster." Ultimately, Su Jianan found their suggestions unhelpful. Mrs. Tang called Lu Boyan, inviting him to bring Su Jianan home for dinner. Lu Boyan readily agreed.
Shen Yuechuan, having observed Su Jianan with her friend Jiang Shaokai earlier, offered to pick her up, but Lu Boyan went to collect her himself. Meanwhile, Han Ruoxi, who had made reservations at Lu Boyan's favorite restaurant three days in advance, was frustrated when he canceled their dinner, stating he had "something to do tonight." Undeterred, Han Ruoxi then approached Shen Yuechuan and invited him to dinner instead, to which he, despite his initial surprise, promptly agreed.
At Lu Boyan's villa, Su Jianan was engrossed in a BA Zong drama on his bed, muttering lines like "Darling. . . We had an agreement. . . You'd better leave. . ." Lu Boyan entered, initially finding her seemingly occupied with something else. He attempted to catch her in the act multiple times, but each time she appeared to be innocently reading. He wondered if she was now writing a BA Zong novel and then left.
Su Jianan, alone, then went into his wardrobe, observing his collection of suits and thinking they were "boring" but of good quality. Inspired, she recalled Stanislavski's method of "true seeing, true listening, true feeling" and decided to "borrow" his clothes. She donned his shirt and tie, then immersed herself in a role-playing scene, delivering dramatic lines about dominance and emotional control. Lu Boyan suddenly re-entered, catching her in the act.
He teasingly questioned her "hobby" and instructed her to "take off your clothes," initially alarming her until he clarified they were going to his mother's house. At Mrs. Tang's house, Su Jianan was welcomed and encouraged to call her "Mom." Mrs. Tang fondly recalled Su Jianan's childhood visits, noting how many things around the house remained unchanged from her youth.
Lu Boyan led Su Jianan to explore, and she discovered a Transformer she had broken as a child, now repaired, and a small, mysterious box that Lu Boyan had always forbidden her from touching. Curiosity piqued, Su Jianan suddenly lunged for the box, inadvertently stumbling and falling directly into Lu Boyan's embrace. He teased her, asking if she was "taking the initiative to give a hug," and held her close, suggesting that his mother would "be happy to see it."
Dinner at Mrs. Tang's was a heartwarming affair, with the familiar aroma filling the air. Su Jianan savored every bite, declaring the dishes, particularly the potato stewed beef, to be her childhood favorites, just as delicious as she remembered. Lu Boyan watched her eat heartily, a faint smile playing on his lips. Amidst the pleasant meal, Mrs. Tang broached the topic of grandchildren, asking them when they planned to have children and mentioning she already had names chosen.
Su Jianan was visibly startled, choking on her water. Lu Boyan quickly intervened, assuring his mother that he and Su Jianan had already discussed it and had a plan, albeit vaguely recalling a past disagreement about wanting a boy or a girl. Mrs. Tang reassured Su Jianan, advising her to prioritize her health and not to feel rushed, while also gently reminding Lu Boyan to be more attentive to his wife.
Mrs. Tang led Lu Boyan and Su Jianan to their shared room for the night. Su Jianan questioned why he was undressing, and Lu Boyan playfully explained he was showering and that sleeping separately would arouse his mother's suspicion. He teased her for being "impatient" before subtly mocking her "low IQ."
After Lu Boyan showered, Su Jianan prepared for her turn, finding the pajamas Mrs. Tang left, which were a new model from her father's company, a detail that surprised her. While in the bathroom, President Du called, reminding her of the impending manuscript deadline.
Su Jianan experienced an internal struggle: one voice, like a "devil," urged her to "get inspiration" from Lu Boyan, who was now in the same room, to create authentic "sweet pet" content, arguing that "without the determination to sacrifice oneself for art, how can one write a good work?" and calling Lu Boyan a "devil." The other voice, like an "angel," reminded her of their agreement for "no physical contact within one year."
Despite her apprehension, the "devil" voice warned of the consequences of not meeting the deadline. Su Jianan ultimately resolved to take the risk, metaphorically deciding to "go into the tiger's den to catch the tiger cub" for the sake of her novel.
Episode 4 Recap
Su Jianan, dressed in pink lace pajamas, attempted to elicit a reaction from Lu Boyan. She playfully shook her hair, accidentally splashing water into his eyes, yet internally noted how a man's eyes change in such moments, archiving this "knowledge point." She then dramatically played loud, pulsating music, immersing herself in a personal concert fantasy, dancing erratically as if possessed. Lu Boyan's bewildered expression indicated the scene was far from her imagined beauty, appearing rather bizarre and unsettling to him.
Sensing the moment for her ultimate "killer move," she danced closer, only to stumble and fall into his arms. He expertly caught her, pinning her between himself and the sofa. As their eyes met and he leaned in for a kiss, a voice recorder, which she had discreetly placed, prevented their lips from meeting.
Su Jianan then pointed the recorder at herself, feigning diligent note-taking, before declaring she had to "catch up with the draft" and retreating to the study, telling Lu Boyan he could "sleep on the floor tonight" as she had no intention of sleeping with him. Su Jianan retreated to the study, feigning diligence with her notes, to work on her draft.
Later that night, Lu Boyan, unable to sleep in the master bedroom, eventually found her fast asleep in the study. The following morning, Su Jianan awoke in Lu Boyan's bed, surprised to find him touching her. When she questioned his actions, he claimed he was merely trying to adjust her clothes, which he said had fallen off. She then remarked that "Mr. Lu is really warm," with an ambiguous tone.
At breakfast, Lu Boyan's mother, Ms. Tang, immediately noticed Su Jianan's flushed face and Lu Boyan gingerly holding his back. With a knowing look, Ms. Tang subtly implied the couple had been "uncontrolled," despite Su Jianan's attempts to deny it. Ms. Tang also playfully advised Lu Boyan to "take it easy" as "life is long."
Later, Lu Boyan apologized for his "instinctive reaction" that morning, though he humorously added that her hand had been in a "dangerous area" when he woke up, suggesting they simply "pretend nothing happened." Shortly after, Lu Boyan took a call, during which his assistant inquired about his well-being, to which he briefly replied he was fine before concluding the call.
On his way to work, Lu Boyan came across the updated chapter of his wife's novel, which brought a faint smile to his face as he recalled the events of the previous night. Meanwhile, at the office, Xuanxuan, a writer at the company, was vehemently arguing with President Du. She expressed her desire to write "BA Zong's warm-married new wife" and demanded that the current author be replaced, asserting her superior track record.
President Du, however, explained that the project had already launched, and since it was Mr. Lu's decision, changing authors was impossible. He tried to appease her by offering other lucrative projects and top resources, but Xuanxuan remained obstinate and stormed out. Moments later, Su Jianan arrived, and President Du immediately welcomed her. He lauded her new novel, emphasizing the "ambiguous," "addictive," and "hormone-filled" first encounter between the leads, praising its "sweet yet not vulgar" tone.
However, he then delivered a caveat: despite the suggestive cohabitation scene, "nothing actually happened." He stressed that modern readers, with their fast pace, required "real, passionate segments," like "hugs and kisses," and insisted these needed to occur "before the third chapter" to keep them engaged. The next update was due the day after tomorrow. With the next chapter due in just two days, Su Jianan was overwhelmed by the demand for "passion."
Desperate for inspiration, she turned to a voice assistant, asking if it had ever been in love and then for "love information." The assistant provided a list of "must-do activities for couples," to Su Jianan's dismay, she realized she had never experienced any of them. Seeking practical help, she called Jiang Shaokai, who initially offered to take her to find inspiration.
However, he quickly made an excuse about a family emergency and had to cancel, though he boasted about his extensive "experience" in romance, claiming he could make her "inspiration explode," despite her pointing out their differing writing styles—hers being "sweet pet" and his more akin to a novel with multiple romantic interests.
During this time, Su Jianan also spoke with her mother, Ms. Tang, who had prepared some clothes for her, as Su Jianan pondered what "plot points" to execute at Yida Plaza. Soon after, Lu Boyan, who had abruptly left a meeting, appeared. He explained his sudden presence by saying he "feared her novel would be too vulgar."
Su Jianan retorted, questioning why he, "who manages everything every day," had time for such "vulgar things," and expressed embarrassment at the thought of others knowing she was "Mrs. Lu." When Jiang Shaokai called, looking for Su Jianan, Lu Boyan intercepted the phone call, curtly informing Jiang Shaokai that Su Jianan was with him and to return home. Su Jianan, slightly annoyed, then urged Lu Boyan to start their "precious time."
With Jiang Shaokai dismissed, Su Jianan decided to complete the "must-do activities for couples" list with Lu Boyan. They first visited a photo booth, where Lu Boyan initially hesitated, claiming such things were beneath him. However, Su Jianan challenged him, and he eventually agreed to a ten-pose photo shoot. Su Jianan found their rigidly formal photos devoid of inspiration, teasing Lu Boyan about his "boring President's life" and lack of "fun."
Lu Boyan retorted that "fun" required her cooperation, subtly pointing to a maid outfit visible in one of the photo options. Su Jianan, for the sake of her "good work," agreed, charmingly appearing before him in the cute maid attire. While she initially fantasized about a romantic wall-pinning kiss, she instead playfully molded and rubbed Lu Boyan's face, creating a series of amusing expressions that made her laugh joyfully, a display Lu Boyan indulged without resistance.
After reviewing their collection of comical and odd photos, they proceeded to a local malatang shop. Lu Boyan expressed skepticism at the seemingly haphazard mixture of ingredients in the boiling red oil. Su Jianan, however, encouraged him to try it. To his own surprise, after finishing one pot, he ordered an additional fifty skewers, clearly having succumbed to its deliciousness. He even took a photo of the scene and sent it to his assistant, Yuechuan.
Unbeknownst to them, Han Ruoxi saw the picture, and remembering Lu Boyan's sensitive stomach and aversion to spicy food, she found herself hesitating to make a call, caught between concern and confusion. Next, Su Jianan and Lu Boyan ventured into a room escape game. Despite initial reluctance from the staff, who typically required more players, they were granted entry after the manager recognized Lu Boyan as a major shareholder of the mall.
They quickly turned the experience into a competition, with Su Jianan proving exceptionally insightful and Lu Boyan, a veteran of suspense, equally adept. As Su Jianan jubilantly twisted a mechanism, opening a secret passage, she stumbled off a stool and fell directly into Lu Boyan's arms.
In this tender embrace, she instinctively puckered her lips for a kiss, but Lu Boyan, seizing the moment, slyly snapped a photo of her pouting face, asserting it was for "inspiration" and that their "score was now even" from the morning's incident. Before they could continue, the lights abruptly went out. Su Jianan used her phone's flashlight to locate Lu Boyan, finding him huddled in a corner, drenched in cold sweat and visibly distressed.
He leaned against her, clutching her arm, his discomfort evident. She initially wondered if he was merely playing a trick, then realized his stomach was hurting, likely from the spicy malatang. She stayed by his side, gently rubbing his hands to warm them. Lu Boyan, still in pain and denying a fear of the dark, murmured that he had not been so relaxed in a long time, while also apologizing for his earlier playful deception.
As they found comfort in each other's presence in the darkness, they shared an unexpected moment of vulnerability, leading Su Jianan to realize that Lu Boyan was not as disagreeable as she once thought. Meanwhile, back at their home, Ms. Tang, Lu Boyan's mother, finally opened a small, previously untouched box that Lu Boyan had always kept private.
Inside, she discovered a collection of childhood photos of a young Lu Boyan and Su Jianan together, confirming her long-held suspicions about their shared past. Lu Boyan, still feeling unwell, asked Su Jianan for her hand.
Episode 5 Recap
Su Jianan rushed Lu Boyan back to their villa. A moment later, the doorbell rang. When Su Jianan opened the door, she found Han Ruoxi standing there with medicine, looking surprised to see her. Han Ruoxi questioned Lu Boyan as to why there was another woman in his house, besides herself and Aunt Tang.
Before Lu Boyan could respond, Su Jianan quickly interjected, introducing herself as Lu Boyan’s distant cousin and playfully scolding her "cousin" for pretending not to know her, implying that Aunt Tang had forced him to spend a day with her. Han Ruoxi, seemingly relieved, mentioned that this house had only seen her and Aunt Tang before. Su Jianan then continued, saying her "cousin" was unreasonable and sharp-tongued with Han Ruoxi.
Su Jianan then complimented Han Ruoxi, and Han Ruoxi offered to take her out. Han Ruoxi handed Lu Boyan his stomach medicine, chiding him for eating spicy food despite his stomach issues. Su Jianan chimed in, praising Han Ruoxi's thoughtfulness. Lu Boyan, however, tersely told Han Ruoxi that she didn't need to do such things for him outside of work.
He then reminded Han Ruoxi that he had used all the company's resources to boost her popularity, cautioning her against mixing professional and personal lives, suggesting she had forgotten their agreement. Su Jianan, feeling like a third wheel, announced she was returning to her room. Lu Boyan stopped her, stating it was getting late and they would rest together. Su Jianan quickly clarified that while they used to rest together as children, they now slept in separate rooms.
Han Ruoxi then departed, reminding Lu Boyan to take his medicine, to which Lu Boyan coolly advised her to focus on her work. After Han Ruoxi left, Lu Boyan immediately questioned Su Jianan about when he became her cousin. Su Jianan explained that she only said so to ensure they could have a peaceful life, reminding him that they were a legal couple, not cousins, and that she needed his cooperation when outsiders were present.
Despite Xu Bo bringing stomach medicine, Lu Boyan refused to eat, causing Su Jianan to worry. That night, Lu Boyan was reading alone when Su Jianan brought him a bowl of stomach-nourishing jujube and lotus porridge. He agreed to drink it but first asked if her concern was that of a cousin for her cousin, or a wife for her husband.
Su Jianan replied that it was out of friendship, saying she felt bad that his stomach hurt because he was with her, and insisted he try it. He took a sip, but when she asked how it tasted, he just stared at her. Doubting him, Su Jianan took a sip herself and immediately burned her tongue, exclaiming how hot it was. Lu Boyan chuckled, calling her stupid, and fetched some oral spray.
When she stuck out her tongue, he stared for a moment before she urged him to spray it quickly. After he sprayed, the medicine stung, causing Su Jianan to cry out. In her surprise, she pulled on Lu Boyan, making them both tumble onto the bed, their lips briefly touching. Lu Boyan then groaned, claiming his stomach hurt intensely and he couldn't move, effectively trapping her beneath him.
Su Jianan called for Xu Bo, but he was unreachable, having gone off to a square dance. Lu Boyan feigned helplessness, remaining on top of her for a long time, secretly pleased. The next morning, Su Jianan tried to slip away quietly, but Xu Bo caught her, offering breakfast. Lu Boyan also appeared, asking if her tongue had healed, attempting to check it. Su Jianan brushed him off.
While having breakfast, Su Jianan saw a news report on TV about Lu Boyan being seen on a date with a "maid dress girl" at Yida shopping mall, speculating about his relationship with Han Ruoxi. Su Jianan was furious, feeling portrayed as a mistress and fearing she would become a public enemy. Lu Boyan seemed indifferent, which annoyed her further. She was somewhat relieved that her face wasn't clearly visible in the photo.
Lu Boyan offered to drive her to the Tao ran Literature Network, but she preferred to keep their distance, fearing more exposure, especially since paparazzi began following and even chasing their car as soon as they left. She asked him to use his media connections to withdraw the news. Lu Boyan questioned if she was truly that worried about being misunderstood.
Su Jianan expressed deep concern about being identified, explaining that Han Ruoxi’s numerous fans would make it impossible for her to quietly write novels, which was extremely important to her future. She also pointed out that his demanding schedule meant exposing their relationship would force him to maintain a false image of a good husband, which would be exhausting.
She added that he and Han Ruoxi were a perfect match, and it would be a shame for them to break up. Lu Boyan noted her concern for others. Su Jianan then reminded him of their one-year marriage agreement. Angered by this, Lu Boyan abruptly pulled the car over and ordered her to get out, leaving her stranded. Watching Lu Boyan drive away, Su Jianan stomped her feet in frustration.
She thought that his image as a gentle BA Zong was a false impression created by outsiders; in reality, he was an unreasonable and petty man. Unbeknownst to Su Jianan, Lu Boyan had secretly planned to switch cars to avoid paparazzi and pick her up again. However, fate intervened; as he was changing vehicles, he saw Su Jianan happily accepting a ride from Jiang Shaokai. Jiang Shaokai teased her about running to work, joking about having children.
He also mentioned that he felt she had abandoned him the day before, to which Su Jianan apologized and offered to treat him to a meal. He then noted that if the recent photos of her and Lu Boyan were exposed, their relationship would be undeniable. Jiang Shaokai, who harbored feelings for Su Jianan, also said that he knew she wouldn't fall in love with Lu Boyan because of him.
Concurrently, Lu Boyan’s assistant asked if he had told Su Jianan about the car change. Concurrently, at Lu's Group, preparations for their annual strategy conference were underway, with Han Ruoxi confirmed as the image ambassador. During an interview, Han Ruoxi maintained a graceful composure. When asked about the maid outfit incident, she cleverly explained that Lu Boyan was researching subculture fields for the company's future ventures and that the photos were merely part of user market research.
Despite a reporter suggesting the actions appeared intimate, Han Ruoxi calmly stated that Lu Boyan had informed her beforehand and that their relationship was stable, attributing any negative attention to "people with ulterior motives." After the interview, Han Ruoxi's assistant expressed surprise that Lu Boyan would be interested in "role-playing" and questioned his tastes.
The assistant also noted that Han Ruoxi had never heard of a distant cousin named Su Jianan and that their interactions didn't seem like those of siblings, reinforcing her suspicion. Han Ruoxi then instructed her assistant to manage the media before seeking out Lu Boyan. She approached him as he discussed conference details with his executives, voicing her concern that the "cousin" issue was negatively impacting their personal and corporate image.
When Lu Boyan asked what she wanted him to do, she suggested that Su Jianan move out and offered to help her find an apartment, citing the potential for misunderstanding. Lu Boyan curtly dismissed it as a "family matter." Han Ruoxi pressed on, questioning if this distant relative was more important than their years of cultivated relationship. Lu Boyan cut her off, advising her to focus on her press conference, and left.
Han Ruoxi then acknowledged to herself that Su Jianan was indeed "not just a cousin." At Tao ran Literature Network, the news about Lu Boyan and the "maid dress girl" had also caused a stir. Jiang Shaokai saw many people discussing the mysterious Su Jianan and teasingly called her "daring" for the maid outfit. Su Jianan, however, was annoyed by the attention. The President, Mr. Du, arrived, interrupting the discussions.
He praised Su Jianan for her new romance novel, noting its significant rise in click-through rates and positive reception. He also mentioned future plans for adapting successful works into film, animation, and other products, entrusting Jiang Shaokai with the business cooperation aspect. After the meeting, many colleagues congratulated Su Jianan, but Chen Xuanxuan made sarcastic remarks, implying that Su Jianan’s success in romance writing came from having many boyfriends.
When Chen Xuanxuan tried to invite Jiang Shaokai to discuss her new book, he flatly refused, stating he had plans with Su Jianan and that some things, like talent, were simply lacking in others. As Jiang Shaokai and Su Jianan left for lunch, Chen Xuanxuan noticed that Su Jianan's shoes were identical to those worn by the "maid dress girl" in the news photo.
She quickly made a phone call, gleefully stating that "heaven was helping her" and that she would add more fuel to the fire, predicting Su Jianan's imminent departure from the Lu family, implying she was responsible for spreading the connection. Su Jianan began receiving malicious phone calls, with callers accusing her of being a "scheming bitch" who seduced Lu Boyan away from Han Ruoxi. She also received a package containing a fake snake.
The constant harassment made it impossible for her to continue writing, so President Du advised her to go home and rest. In the taxi on her way home, the radio broadcast was analyzing the alleged breakup between Lu Boyan and Han Ruoxi, claiming he had cheated with "non-famous online female writer Su Jianan," further detailing the "maid temptation" photos. Suddenly, the taxi stopped, surrounded by an angry mob.
Recognizing her from the news, the mob demanded she get out of the car, accusing her of stealing their "goddess's man" and calling her shameless. Su Jianan warned them about the 24-hour surveillance and the police, but a female fan, claiming to be the Taoran City branch president of Han Ruoxi's Global Fan Support Association, lunged at her, intending to strike. Just then, Lu Boyan appeared, swiftly grabbing the fan's arm mid-air.
The fan’s rage instantly turned to delight, exclaiming that Lu Boyan had touched her hand, feeling it was worth it. Lu Boyan firmly told the crowd to disperse. Shortly after Lu Boyan left with Su Jianan, Jiang Shaokai arrived at the scene. He talked to Yuechuan, who had likely informed Lu Boyan about Su Jianan’s predicament, and expressed his disappointment that Su Jianan had been picked up by her husband.
Jiang Shaokai asserted that if Su Jianan would give him a clear answer about their relationship, he would end all his other romantic entanglements. Lu Boyan drove Su Jianan home. On the way, Su Jianan asked how he knew she was in trouble, and he replied that Yuechuan had told him. She then thanked him for coming to her rescue. Inside the house, they discussed a solution to the ongoing public outcry.
Su Jianan suggested clarifying their relationship to the media. Lu Boyan found this to be a good idea. Su Jianan then proposed that he conduct a news interview to clarify that they were merely cousins. Lu Boyan’s reaction to this specific suggestion showed a marked change in his demeanor.
Episode 6 Recap
Lu Boyan suggested clarifying his relationship with Su Jianan, but she initially proposed they claim to be cousins. He dismissed this idea, questioning how she would explain it to her father, especially with her phone ringing constantly from harassment. He then bluntly suggested publicly announcing their marriage. Su Jianan hesitated, reminding him of their prior agreement, but eventually relented when Lu Boyan told her to stay home for a few days while he handled Han Ruoxi's fans.
Soon after, Su Jianan's novel was flooded with negative comments, calling her a mistress and denouncing her character, with many urging her to "get out of the Lu family." She received a message from Han Ruoxi, who apologized for the fan uproar and arranged a secret meeting. At their meeting, Su Jianan expressed her frustration over constant media attention, mentioning how gossip reporters were disrupting her life.
Han Ruoxi advised her to temporarily move out of the Lu family, stating that directly addressing the public furor now would only worsen it, but that the initial craze would pass in about three days. Han Ruoxi offered to speak with Lu Boyan and the fans later. Su Jianan, concerned about her father's reaction, declined Han Ruoxi's offer of a house, stating she could stay with a friend. She then called her friend Xiao Xi, urging her to hurry.
However, while waiting, Su Jianan was suddenly abducted and dragged into an RV, where she found Lu Boyan. He commented on her "running away," and she retorted that her predicament was his fault. Lu Boyan assured her he had a solution. Lu Boyan then instructed staff to apply makeup on Su Jianan, stating they were in a hurry. Su Jianan, confused by the need for makeup and a formal dress, questioned the staff about their choice.
Dissatisfied, Lu Boyan ordered them to select another dress from their store, explicitly stating they were going to his press conference. At the conference venue, Han Ruoxi was already made up and waiting. The host pressed Shen Yuechuan as Lu Boyan was absent and needed to coordinate lines with Han Ruoxi. On the phone, Shen Yuechuan received shocking instructions from Lu Boyan.
Despite his concerns about the impropriety of the last-minute changes, especially given Han Ruoxi's presence, he hastily rearranged everything. He ordered staff to revise the speaker's notes, announcing that Mr. Huo would introduce the project, and instructed the PR department to notify media and guests of a 30-minute delay, promising "explosive news." Backstage, Lu Boyan was in a suit. Su Jianan was presented with a dress, which she seemed hesitant to put on.
Lu Boyan teased her, suggesting she wanted him to help her change, prompting her to call him a "hooligan." He then dismissed the staff, and Su Jianan reluctantly put on the dress. Meanwhile, Shen Yuechuan apologized to Han Ruoxi for the sudden change, offering compensation. Han Ruoxi dismissed his apology, stating she felt obligated to stay until the end of the Lu's Group conference. Su Jianan expressed concern about being late to the event, but Lu Boyan was unconcerned.
As they arrived backstage, Su Jianan feared he was deceiving her again and refused to go on stage. Lu Boyan challenged her, asking if she wanted to continue being slandered, and firmly reminded her, "Remember, you are my wife, Su Jianan." They then stepped into the spotlight. Lu Boyan began his speech, eloquently describing the creative spirit of the internet culture industry. He then announced the image ambassador for the conference. The audience, expecting Han Ruoxi, murmured in confusion.
Lu Boyan dramatically revealed, "At the same time, she is also my wife, Su Jianan." The audience erupted in applause and admiration, with some recognizing her as the "maid dress" girl. News reports instantly broadcasted the shocking announcement of Lu Boyan and Su Jianan's marriage, highlighting her new role as image spokesperson over Han Ruoxi and their public display of affection. Su Jianan confronted Lu Boyan, upset that he exposed their relationship without her consent.
He countered that it was to protect her from harassment. Meanwhile, Chen Xuanxuan complained about Su Jianan receiving all the novel promotion resources. President Du then surprised Su Jianan with a luxurious independent office, praising her as the Literature Society's most popular author and hinting at a significant announcement. Colleagues congratulated Su Jianan on her "double harvest" of love and career, while Chen Xuanxuan made sarcastic remarks.
At a meeting, President Du officially renamed Su Jianan's novel "Lu Shao's Warm-Married New Wife," claiming it was a strategic decision by top management and citing its record-breaking clicks. Su Jianan attempted to object to the name change, but President Du dismissed her concerns, emphasizing the novel's quality and popularity. He also publicly warned Jiang Shaokai to keep his distance from Su Jianan due to her new, prominent status.
Later, colleagues excitedly received morning tea and flowers from Xu Bo, sent by Lu Boyan to celebrate Su Jianan's novel's success. Chen Xuanxuan spitefully suggested Su Jianan treat everyone to an expensive celebration dinner. Su Jianan agreed, despite a colleague's warning not to be "corroded" by Lu Boyan's gestures. During lunch, Lu Boyan unexpectedly appeared, introducing himself as Su Jianan's husband and briefly reminding her to "mind her manners" as "Mrs. Lu" before leaving.
Chen Xuanxuan ordered the most expensive items. When the bill for 5891 RMB arrived, Su Jianan realized she didn't have enough money, as her manuscript fees hadn't been settled, and asked a colleague for help. Chen Xuanxuan seized the opportunity to mock her. Lu Boyan then reappeared, handing Su Jianan a black card and informing her he had set up "Alipay's intimate payment" with no limit.
He then pointedly instructed the waiter that Chen Xuanxuan's portion of the bill should be paid by herself, before leaving with Su Jianan. Su Jianan teased Lu Boyan about his "acting" after their public displays, but he questioned if she thought he was faking it. Soon after, they encountered her "Little Monster teacher" fans, who expressed overwhelming support for her novel and the "Lu-Su combination," urging them to "scatter more dog food."
Su Jianan felt like she was dreaming, but acknowledged that such popularity typically lasted only three days. Shen Yuechuan unexpectedly appeared and hinted that she "underestimated Lu Boyan" and his influence. Su Jianan realized Lu Boyan orchestrated everything, from investing in the Literature Network to President Du's promotion of her novel, to protect her and boost her work. She confronted him, feeling uncomfortable about gaining success through their "relationship" rather than solely her own talent.
Lu Boyan explained that he wouldn't have promoted her if her novel wasn't good, and that the increased traffic ultimately benefited his group. He then cryptically admitted to "plotting many things" with her. The two later went grocery shopping, appearing as a normal couple. Su Jianan struggled to reach items on a high shelf, and Lu Boyan helped her. He then cornered her against the shelf, whispering that they needed to "do the whole show," implying the presence of paparazzi.
Their "sweet interaction" at the supermarket became headline news, described as "comparable to an idol drama." Han Ruoxi, seeing the news, angrily smashed her tablet. Su Jianan discussed the overwhelming fan response with Xiao Xi, who offered to help her create a reader group. Su Jianan agreed, and Xiao Xi suggested naming it "Monster Alliance." Meanwhile, Su Jianan decided to return Lu Boyan's black card.
Han Ruoxi secretly entered Lu Boyan's office and discovered a one-year contract, which led her to deduce that Lu Boyan and Su Jianan's marriage was not genuine. She then confronted Lu Boyan, expressing hurt that she was the last to know about his marriage and reminding him of their past media image as a "golden couple."
She questioned the conflicting narratives of his relationship with Su Jianan – from claiming they were siblings to announcing their marriage – and confronted him about the contract she found. Lu Boyan admitted they were indeed "married by contract." At this exact moment, Su Jianan walked in to return the black card and overheard his confession.
Episode 7 Recap
When Han Ruoxi confronted Lu Boyan about their contract marriage, stating she knew their marriage was by contract, she provocatively asked if they could still be together once the agreement ended. She remarked on Lu Boyan’s frequent interactions with Su Jianan, whom she described as a "fat girl selling underwear," and questioned if he truly wanted to be friends with her. Lu Boyan retorted that no one would want to befriend such a person.
Overhearing this exchange, Su Jianan felt a profound disappointment, as if a secret between them had been carelessly exposed. Her inner thoughts tormented her, calling her "stupid" for falling into this situation and for "coveting Lu Boyan's beauty." A voice within her urged her to "strictly fulfill the agreement" and "keep a safe distance" from Lu Boyan to avoid further self-torment. Lu Boyan was scheduled for a five-day business trip to Yong'an City.
Shen Yuechuan had already made all the arrangements for Lu Boyan, including flights and hotels. Lu Boyan then asked to add one more person to the trip: Su Jianan. However, upon returning home, Su Jianan treated him coldly, barely acknowledging him and speaking with excessive formality, as if to a stranger. Xu Bo noticed Mrs. Lu's unusual behavior, finding her unresponsive and distant.
Lu Boyan seemed puzzled by her change, but Xu Bo, attributing it to a woman's monthly discomfort, suggested preparing ginger and brown sugar water. Su Jianan, though, refused the drink, claiming she needed creative space for her novel and was not thirsty. Her resolve to "keep a distance" from Lu Boyan and to "never generate any emotion" for him solidified in her mind.
The following morning, as Lu Boyan departed, he looked back at the balcony of Su Jianan's room, but she remained hidden, only emerging to watch his car disappear once he was out of sight. In Yong'an City, Lu Boyan's meeting proved highly efficient, suggesting he might return within three days. Unexpectedly, Han Ruoxi also appeared in Yong'an for a magazine cover shoot. With Su Jianan absent, Han Ruoxi approached Lu Boyan, inviting him to dinner.
Lu Boyan reminded her that he thought she had already understood his intentions, making it clear he had rejected her advances before. Han Ruoxi, however, remained persistent, interpreting his past actions as mere "acting" and insisting they could be together after his contract marriage ended. Lu Boyan firmly stated that even if the contract expired, he would continue to be with Su Jianan, claiming they had been inseparable since childhood.
Back home, Su Jianan found her creative inspiration completely gone, unable to write any romantic plots. Chen Xuanxuan, the editor-in-chief, called to urge her for updates on her novel. Su Jianan admitted she had no ideas, to which Chen Xuanxuan responded with sarcasm, noting it wasn't the first time she had delayed a draft. Soon after, an entertainment news report popped up, showing an intimate photo of Han Ruoxi and Lu Boyan, which annoyed Su Jianan.
Luo Xiaoxi, sensing Su Jianan's unhappiness, discovered that Lu Boyan had openly disclosed his contract marriage to Han Ruoxi. Enraged, Luo Xiaoxi vowed to "smash his dog head" for hurting her friend. Su Jianan, however, dismissed it, reiterating that it was "just a contract marriage." To lift Su Jianan's spirits and help her find inspiration, Luo Xiaoxi suggested a trip, convincing a hesitant Su Jianan to go with her and Jiang Shaokai. They soon found themselves by the ocean.
Jiang Shaokai and Luo Xiaoxi bickered playfully, with Jiang Shaokai trying to lighten the mood for Su Jianan. They even buried Su Jianan in the sand, mimicking seaweed. As they relaxed on the beach, Su Jianan couldn't help but wonder what Lu Boyan was doing, and if he was with Han Ruoxi.
Jiang Shaokai attempted to impress Su Jianan, listing Lu Boyan's virtues while subtly downplaying himself, only for Luo Xiaoxi to chime in, adding more of Lu Boyan's appealing qualities. That night, as they sat under the stars, a shooting star streaked across the sky. Su Jianan, seizing the moment, made a wish aloud: "I hope Lu Boyan will never bother me!" The next day, the trio went hiking.
Jiang Shaokai playfully tried to scare the girls with a stick, pretending it was a snake. To their shock, a real snake appeared, and Jiang Shaokai was bitten. Luo Xiaoxi quickly called for an ambulance. Jiang Shaokai, ever the dramatist, feigned a severe injury, making a theatrical "will" where he asked Luo Xiaoxi to take care of two girls, Nana and Jiao Jiao, and even pay off his credit card debt.
At the hospital, the doctor confirmed it was not a poisonous snake and he was fine, just startled. Despite this, Jiang Shaokai exaggerated his discomfort, insisting on staying for observation and charming Su Jianan. He had food delivered and, feigning a "sore hand," asked Su Jianan to feed him, which she did. It was at this moment that Lu Boyan arrived.
Having received a vague message from Xu Bo that led him to believe Su Jianan was hurt and in the hospital, he rushed over, only to find Su Jianan feeding Jiang Shaokai. Lu Boyan confronted Su Jianan, demanding to know where she was hurt and ordering her to come home with him. Su Jianan retorted that she was fine and that her friends were none of his concern.
Lu Boyan then asked if she had forgotten her identity as Lu Taitai. Su Jianan, in turn, challenged him, asking who he was to order her around, accusing him of interfering in her life while he was out "having a good time." Lu Boyan, ignoring the public setting of the hospital, sternly commanded her to be home by nine o'clock.
Jiang Shaokai, still playing the invalid, insisted he was too "uncomfortable" to leave the hospital, wanting Su Jianan and Luo Xiaoxi to stay. Luo Xiaoxi, noticing Su Jianan's continued distress, decided to take her to a newly opened KTV to vent. Meanwhile, at home, Lu Boyan waited. At nine o'clock, with Su Jianan still absent, Xu Bo tried to reassure him, telling him that Mrs. Lu would definitely remember his words and would return.
He urged Lu Boyan to have confidence that Mrs. Lu would not leave him. Su Jianan, at the KTV, was indeed singing her heart out. Back at the hospital, Jiang Shaokai, still feigning fear of darkness, convinced Su Jianan to stay with him, happily dismissing "that big bad guy Lu Boyan." As the hours passed, Lu Boyan continued to wait by the door, his mind filled with the image of Su Jianan intimately feeding Jiang Shaokai, which greatly agitated him.
Xu Bo offered to call Mrs. Lu, but Lu Boyan told him to rest, choosing to wait himself. Finally, Su Jianan returned. Lu Boyan, visibly upset, immediately demanded to know why she was out so late with Jiang Shaokai, suggesting Jiang Shaokai needed her companionship. Su Jianan, provoked, repeated her earlier question, asking him who he was to dictate her actions, reinforcing the emotional distance she had deliberately created between them. As they began to exchange hurtful words, Lu Boyan, unwilling to hear more, suddenly cupped her face in his hands.
Episode 8 Recap
After Su Jianan and Lu Boyan's heated argument, Lu Boyan grabs her face, presses her against the wall, and kisses her, desperately trying to confirm that they are legitimately a couple. Su Jianan, unable to bear such unreasonable treatment, confronts him, asking, "Who do you think I am?" She feels he has no respect for her, having just secretly met Han Ruoxi in Yong'an and now acting intimately with her.
Lu Boyan, anxious, tells her to look clearly that she is not Han Ruoxi, and asks if she minds the recent news about him. Su Jianan defiantly states that she doesn't care if he wants to be with Han Ruoxi or anyone else, reiterating that she has told him this since their marriage and that he should leave her alone. She also tells him not to constantly question her about Jiang Shaokai.
Lu Boyan then challenges her, asking if she plans to go to Jiang Shaokai. She retorts that who she sees has nothing to do with him, adding that she also won't care how long he wants to linger with Han Ruoxi, and that from now on, their contract marriage means they should have nothing to do with each other. Lu Boyan calls out to her name as she leaves.
The next morning, Lu Boyan tries to explain yesterday's events to Su Jianan, knocking on her door and calling her name. When no one answers, he asks Xu Bo if Mrs. Lu has come out of her room, to which Xu Bo replies she went back to her room after breakfast and hasn't come out since.
Lu Boyan then discovers she has left the house through the window, leaving behind the black card he gave her, realizing she ran away from home. After leaving Lu Boyan's home, Su Jianan goes to Luo Xiaoxi's place. Luo Xiaoxi exclaims loudly that Lu Boyan tried to force a kiss on Su Jianan, to which Su Jianan urges her to lower her voice.
Su Jianan, still upset, calls Lu Boyan a "pervert," complaining that he is full of scandals himself yet tries to control her, treating everyone as his private property. Despite her dysmenorrhea, she continues to eat ice cream out of anger. Luo Xiaoxi tries to comfort her by reminding her that their contract marriage will pass quickly. Su Jianan dismisses the idea, labeling men as "big pig hooves," using Jiang Shaokai as a typical example.
Luo Xiaoxi then warns Su Jianan to stop eating cold food because it causes her dysmenorrhea, but Su Jianan insists she needs the sweets to stimulate dopamine and calm herself. Luo Xiaoxi suggests they go shopping, and indeed, after shopping, Su Jianan feels happier. Lu Boyan calls, asking to speak with Su Jianan. Luo Xiaoxi answers, sarcastically telling him that Su Jianan is busy, unlike him who is busy meeting old lovers while also trying to coax his "little wife."
Luo Xiaoxi then tells Lu Boyan they are going to a bar and abruptly hangs up. She then explains to Su Jianan that this is her way of getting back at him, using his own tactics against him. Lu Boyan, presumably concerned after a previous incident of Su Jianan's drunkenness, rushes to the bar. Upon his arrival, a staff member thanks him for organizing a "meaningful event" for the bar.
Lu Boyan, confused, asks about the event and where Su Jianan is. The staff member explains that Mrs. Lu has already given instructions, then announces to the crowd that whoever successfully "wall-pins" Lu Boyan will win a free drink prize. The crowd cheers and rushes towards him, prompting Lu Boyan to shout "Ambush!" and immediately tell his driver to drive away, escaping the scene.
After the bar incident, Su Jianan, who had been observing from a hidden spot, is initially amused but then wonders if she went too far, feeling a strange pang of sympathy for Lu Boyan. Meanwhile, Lu Boyan receives a call from his mother, who scolds him for being a "playboy" and expresses her disappointment. She gives him two days to bring her "precious daughter-in-law" back, threatening not to see him otherwise.
Shen Yuechuan returns and immediately asks Lu Boyan about Su Jianan's situation, pointing out that the widely spread news about him and Han Ruoxi at the hotel is likely why Su Jianan is angry and jealous, as she might have seen online gossip and imagined things. The scene shifts to Han Ruoxi, heavily drunk, lamenting her situation and begging Lu Boyan not to be so cold to her.
Lu Boyan asks Shen Yuechuan to get her a towel and tells her to calm down and get sober. Lu Boyan wants to resolve the matter quickly as he doesn't want Su Jianan to hold a grudge and remain distant. Shen Yuechuan suggests Lu Boyan kneel to apologize, citing it as the fastest and most effective way to gain forgiveness in China, but Lu Boyan rejects it as impossible.
He also dismisses sending flowers as vulgar and jewelry as something Su Jianan wouldn't care for. Instead, he asks Shen Yuechuan to arrange a statement to clarify the misunderstanding. Shen Yuechuan offers to handle the matter personally, explaining to Han Ruoxi that while Lu Boyan initially considered a solo press conference, a joint clarification with a unified statement would minimize damage to all three parties' reputations, especially since Lu Boyan's marriage is already public.
That morning, Luo Xiaoxi calls Lu Boyan to inform him that Su Jianan's father has taken her to force her to inherit the family's underwear company. Su Jianan is in her father's office, being sternly reprimanded. Her father asserts that he sees through her marriage as merely a facade to avoid inheriting the business, convinced it's unhappy. He insists she return to inherit Su's Liren.
Su Jianan attempts to defend her relationship with Lu Boyan, stating that he and Han Ruoxi are just friends and that the media exaggerates. Her father dismisses her defense, saying he had believed their "childhood sweethearts, reunited lovers" story only because they got married, but now sees them as "two little swindlers" who tricked him.
He presses her to divorce Lu Boyan and sign the papers, reminding her that their agreement was that she wouldn't have to return if she had a happy marriage, which he clearly doesn't believe is the case. Just as her father demands she sign the divorce papers, Lu Boyan appears. He tells Su Jianan's father that Su Jianan is his wife and always will be, declaring "We are happy," and dismissing the rumors as media fabrications.
He tells him that he will soon see news proving the truth, and then takes Su Jianan with him. Su Jianan still protests being taken while still inside the company, but Lu Boyan insists they must "act the part" until they are out. In the car, Su Jianan remains upset about Han Ruoxi, stating she is not Han Ruoxi and questions his intentions.
Lu Boyan assures her that he clearly distinguishes between her and Han Ruoxi and that Han Ruoxi's actions have nothing to do with him. He then shows her a news report. The report features Shen Yuechuan and Han Ruoxi clarifying the hotel incident, with Shen Yuechuan explaining that Lu Boyan and Han Ruoxi have cooperated for years, were both in Yong'an city for work, and stayed in the same hotel due to company arrangements.
He emphasizes that Lu Boyan is a husband loyal to his marriage and family, and his relationship with Mrs. Lu is very stable. Han Ruoxi adds that her state of drunkenness was part of preparing for a new role and that Shen Yuechuan was also present, apologizing for any misunderstandings. After Su Jianan sees the clarification, Lu Boyan reiterates that he and Han Ruoxi have nothing to do with each other and promises that such incidents will not happen again.
Su Jianan then notices they are on the highway to Yong'an City. She attempts to make Shen Yuechuan stop the car, but he explains that Lu Boyan had previously cut short his business meetings in Yong'an to return when he learned of her hospitalization, and that his partners are giving him one last chance to negotiate, so delaying would lead to significant losses. Su Jianan realizes the extent of his actions.
In Yong'an City, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan meet the business partners, Mr. and Mrs. Chen from Henghui and Mr. and Mrs. Li from Yuanguang. The partners compliment Lu Boyan on his attentiveness to his wife. During a golf game, the partners praise Lu Boyan's good looks and his care for his wife, noting Mrs. Lu's good fortune. They also compliment Su Jianan, stating they've read her novels, which Lu Boyan recommended.
They believe her and Lu Boyan are childhood sweethearts, based on her books. Su Jianan clarifies that while their mothers knew each other since childhood and they were in the same middle school class, he later transferred, so they hadn't seen each other for many years. Lu Boyan then teaches Su Jianan how to play golf, giving her tips on posture. Thanks to her presence, the cooperation is quickly and smoothly concluded.
The partners express their pleasure and look forward to future meetings. After business, Lu Boyan takes Su Jianan to a Ferris wheel, revealing that he had prevented her from riding it in the past and wants to make up for it now. Su Jianan playfully accepts his apology and then shares a legend: lovers on a Ferris wheel will break up unless they kiss at the highest point.
As they reach the highest point, Su Jianan suddenly experiences stomach pain, realizing her dysmenorrhea has started, which she blames on the ice cream she had earlier. Lu Boyan offers her hot water, but she asks for sanitary pads. He then returns with various types of sanitary pads, explaining their features in detail, which leaves Su Jianan in a state of conflicted internal debate about whether he is a pervert or a considerate "warm man." Later, she is in bed, and Lu Boyan, with his warm hands, gently massages her stomach, asking if she feels any better.
Episode 9 Recap
After a brief but pleasant trip, Su Jianan and Lu Boyan returned to Taoran City. Back at home, Su Jianan's persistent stomach pain became a clear concern for Lu Boyan. He sought advice from his mother, Ms. Tang, about remedies for menstrual discomfort, mentioning Jianan's extreme discomfort during her period. Ms. Tang highly recommended Dr. Feng, describing her as a skilled Chinese medicine practitioner with decades of experience who had also helped her own health.
Lu Boyan immediately took Su Jianan to see her. They were surprised to find that Dr. Feng, despite her reputation, appeared to be a young, trendy woman with striking yellow hair and large glasses. Dr. Feng, accustomed to such reactions, explained that her family had practiced medicine for five generations and that she herself had been treating patients for over twenty years, having followed her mother since birth.
With just a look at Su Jianan's tongue, Dr. Feng quickly diagnosed her condition, noting liver qi stagnation, qi and blood deficiency, and poor circulation as the causes of her pain. She also observed Su Jianan's dark circles, cautioning her against staying up late, as it greatly damages the body. When Su Jianan expressed worry about the medicine's bitterness, Dr. Feng simply stated, "The medicine is not bitter but sweet."
Su Jianan then asked Dr. Feng to examine Lu Boyan, who had long suffered from stomach issues. Although Lu Boyan initially demurred, Su Jianan insisted, saying they "share happiness, and taste bitterness together." Dr. Feng diagnosed Lu Boyan with a weak spleen and stomach due to external cold and advised him to stop suppressing his stomach pain with Western medicine, emphasizing that healing required careful recuperation, including timely medication and dietary attention.
She urged the couple to supervise each other's health. The time came for them to take their bitter medicine. Lu Boyan reminded Su Jianan that traditional Chinese medicine should be drunk while hot. Su Jianan, hesitant due to the taste, tried to make him drink first, believing his medicine couldn't be as bitter since he drank it so easily. Lu Boyan firmly told her that her body wasn't hers alone and she "must drink this medicine."
He then proposed a solution: drink the entire bowl quickly to minimize contact with taste buds, and immediately follow it with a piece of candy to dissolve the bitterness. Though skeptical, Su Jianan agreed. After a large gulp, she exclaimed, "So bitter! Sugar!" Lu Boyan, holding a piece of candy in his mouth, kissed her, passing the candy to her.
With the bitterness gone, Su Jianan blushed and quickly excused herself to work on her novel, leaving Lu Boyan smiling, thinking, "What is happiness? It is having candy to eat every day." Meanwhile, Luo Xiaoxi, diligently studying acting with aspirations of entering the entertainment industry, met with her introducer, A Mai, for an interview at a KTV. A Mai explained that she would meet influential figures with projects, urging her to seize the opportunity for a rapid rise.
When Luo Xiaoxi asked for interview questions, A Mai simply replied, "Do you want to be popular?" to which Luo Xiaoxi emphatically responded, "Yes!" Luo Xiaoxi expressed discomfort about the KTV setting, questioning if the "interview" was just for accompanying drinks. A Mai dismissed her concerns, calling it a "social means," but Luo Xiaoxi continued to probe, asking if accompanying sleep was next.
A Mai, offended, retorted that she succeeded in the industry "by her own ability" and called Luo Xiaoxi superficial. She then introduced Luo Xiaoxi to Mr. Qian from Mingyuan Pictures, Qiaojie from Qifeng Entertainment, and Qin Ge, all established figures. The final person to meet was Kai Shao from Taoran Literature Society, who supposedly held many projects. To Luo Xiaoxi's shock, "Kai Shao" turned out to be Jiang Shaokai, whom she considered her nemesis.
She tried to make a hasty exit, claiming her electric kettle was left on, but Jiang Shaokai stopped her, asking her name and confirming her identity. He noted she had "quite good" conditions, and A Mai affirmed Luo Xiaoxi's talent despite not being formally trained. Jiang Shaokai then challenged her to demonstrate her talent, prompting Luo Xiaoxi to playfully retort, "Jiang Shaokai, you are itchy again, aren't you?"
She then boldly declared her "talent" for "pricking needles" and proposed a toast, drinking first and urging him to follow. Under pressure from the other bosses who accused him of bullying new talent, Jiang Shaokai was compelled to drink. The two continued to drink heavily, with Jiang Shaokai vowing to drink Luo Xiaoxi under the table, to which she retorted by mocking his intoxicated state and asking if he'd never seen a "fairy."
Their competitive drinking culminated in a decision to continue at "my home, Building 6, Bay Plaza," an address that was later revealed to be Luo Xiaoxi's residence. The next morning, Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai awoke in Luo Xiaoxi's bed, both startled and screaming. Luo Xiaoxi immediately accused Jiang Shaokai of causing "big trouble," while he insisted the night's events were an "accident" due to "impulse," urging her to pretend "nothing has happened."
Luo Xiaoxi, however, declared she would "not be responsible" for him, and Jiang Shaokai retorted that she "still want to enter my Luo family's home? Dream!" Their argument was interrupted by a knock, followed by the sound of a key in the lock. Su Jianan entered, having used her own key. She had returned to collect some things, now that she and Lu Boyan had reconciled.
Finding Luo Xiaoxi wrapped in a quilt on such a hot day, Su Jianan was curious, but Luo Xiaoxi nervously claimed she was "looking for inspiration for creating roles" for an upcoming audition. As Su Jianan moved to pack her belongings, Luo Xiaoxi panicked, knowing she had been discovered. Su Jianan began searching for her laptop, only to find Jiang Shaokai behind the curtains, using her computer to cover himself. " Luo Xiaoxi, you exposure maniac!"
Su Jianan shrieked, instructing her to cover up, exasperated by her friend's eccentric behavior. The three then sat awkwardly in the living room. Su Jianan directly asked when Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai "got together," but both vehemently denied it, blaming each other and claiming "things are not what you think." Luo Xiaoxi scolded Jiang Shaokai for taking Su Jianan's computer, while he feigned ignorance about her visit.
Su Jianan, however, revealed she was "quite happy" they were together and wondered why they hid it. Both continued to argue, Luo Xiaoxi declaring she wasn't "desperate" enough to be with Jiang Shaokai, and he retorting that women "from here to France" wanted to be with him. Su Jianan finally intervened, urging them to stop arguing and "sit down calmly, have a good chat," acknowledging the "beautiful misunderstanding." Jiang Shaokai, still defiant, questioned who would want to chat with him.
With that, Su Jianan decided to leave, telling them not to argue further. Downstairs, Lu Boyan had been waiting for a long time. Upon seeing her, he commented on her lengthy stay and asked about the computer. Su Jianan simply said it was "a long story" and she needed to "buy a new computer," which Lu Boyan accepted. At the Taoran Literature Society, President Du offered Su Jianan chrysanthemum tea and effusively praised her latest novel chapters.
He lauded her for introducing a "love triangle plot" and for the unexpected twist, calling the story "sweet and cruel" and praising her exquisite writing style and accurate psychological portrayal. He noted the soaring subscriptions and clicks. As President Du spoke, Su Jianan again felt a faint pain in her lower abdomen. Noticing her discomfort, President Du kindly dismissed her, urging her to rest and assuring her that updates were not urgent.
As she prepared to leave, Jiang Shaokai stopped her, playfully scolding her for not contacting him while she was busy writing. Su Jianan, however, turned the conversation to him and Luo Xiaoxi. Jiang Shaokai vehemently denied anything untoward, claiming "things are not what you think." Su Jianan, as Luo Xiaoxi's best friend, warned him not to bully her, to which Jiang Shaokai indignantly retorted, asking "who bullies who?" and claiming Luo Xiaoxi was "taking advantage of him."
President Du then advised Jiang Shaokai to "be nice to Xiaoxi" and suggested Su Jianan drink more brown sugar water for her discomfort. Luo Xiaoxi waited for Su Jianan at a coffee shop, having already ordered her latte. When Su Jianan arrived, Luo Xiaoxi immediately asked about her relationship with Jiang Shaokai. Despite Luo Xiaoxi's denials, Su Jianan opined that Jiang Shaokai was "very nice," only appearing "playful" on the surface, which prompted Luo Xiaoxi to question her friend's judgment.
Their conversation dissolved into playful bickering and teasing, until Su Jianan concluded that Jiang Shaokai's playful nature was too much for anyone to handle. Luo Xiaoxi confidently refuted this, claiming he "dare not breathe" in front of her, proving she was the one to "conquer" him. Suddenly, Su Jianan's father called.
After confirming that the scandal involving Su Jianan and Lu Boyan had been clarified, her father asked her and Lu Boyan to return home the next day for a "Huimen" visit and to discuss the upcoming 20th anniversary celebration of Su's Beauty. Su Jianan immediately refused to attend the celebration, suggesting her younger sister, Su Yuanyuan, go in her stead.
When her father insisted that as the eldest daughter of the Su family, she must attend, Su Jianan abruptly hung up, declaring to Luo Xiaoxi that her father was "plotting something" and expressing her strong aversion to the idea of being an "Underwear Queen." She then rushed off, leaving her coffee untouched. Later, Lu Boyan arrived with Su Jianan's medicine. She again complained of its bitterness, prompting Lu Boyan to repeat his trick with candy.
She complied, and he sweetened the medicine with a kiss. Lu Boyan then informed her that her father had called, inviting them back to discuss the Su's anniversary celebration, an invitation Lu Boyan had accepted. Su Jianan was dismayed, reiterating her reluctance, particularly at the prospect of being the "Underwear Queen," and suggested Lu Boyan go alone. Lu Boyan, however, explained his acceptance was a strategic move to prove himself as her family's son-in-law, especially after her father's previous suspicions.
He added that her father would be deeply disappointed if she didn't attend such an important event. Lu Boyan then tenderly explained that her father's love, though perhaps expressed in ways she disliked, was genuine and that in his father's heart, she was "more important than anyone else." This heartfelt appeal, combined with Su Jianan's own reflections on past experiences, including being mocked as the "Underwear Princess" by classmates for her family's business, led to a change of heart.
She recalled how, supported by a friend who encouraged her to "raise your head, hold your chest, and go back!" and face her tormentors, she had bravely confronted them, defending the integrity of wearing and selling underwear. She then confidently offered half-price discounts at her family's store to those who stood by her, while declaring her bullies would be "blacklisted." Witnessing her newfound strength, her peers admired her.
After considering Lu Boyan's words and her past experiences, Su Jianan decided, "Bo Yan, I will go with you tomorrow." She then warned him, "If dad gives you any stuff tomorrow, you must not take it!"
Episode 10 Recap
Lu Boyan and Su Jianan arrived at Su Hongyuan's home, where Su Hongyuan enthusiastically greeted them, commenting on Su Jianan's slightly fuller figure and praising Lu Boyan for taking good care of her. Su Jianan, a bit embarrassed by her father's words, watched as Lu Boyan politely presented their gift: a carefully prepared present for Su Hongyuan.
In return, Su Hongyuan produced gifts of his own: the latest "Su's beauty" lightweight and comfortable underwear for Su Jianan, claiming to remember her size, and newly developed health underwear "good for men" for Lu Boyan, much to Su Jianan's dismay and urging for her father to put them away quickly. Despite her embarrassment, Lu Boyan courteously accepted the gifts.
Su Hongyuan expressed his relief about Lu Boyan's leadership at Lu's Corporation and Su Jianan's good fortune, to which Lu Boyan humbly responded that marrying Su Jianan was his true blessing. Su Hongyuan then asked Lu Boyan for ideas for Su's beauty, and Lu Boyan promised to help. Aunt Jiang, Su Hongyuan's wife, suggested they go to the kitchen to prepare fruit for the couple.
Left alone with Lu Boyan, Su Jianan confided in him about her mother's love for flowers and how Aunt Jiang's presence had gradually erased her mother's traces from the home. She learned that Aunt Jiang was an old employee whose husband had passed away, and she later married Su Hongyuan, bringing her daughter Su Yuanyuan into their family.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Aunt Jiang expressed concern to Su Hongyuan about Lu Boyan and Su Jianan's lack of wedding rings, especially given the rumors surrounding Lu Boyan and celebrities like Han Ruoxi. Su Hongyuan dismissed her worries, asserting his trust in Lu Boyan's character, unaware that Lu Boyan had overheard their entire conversation. Later, Su Hongyuan gathered Lu Boyan, Su Jianan, and Aunt Jiang to discuss the upcoming 20th-anniversary celebration for Su's beauty.
He admitted that previous celebrations lacked novelty, typically involving only corporate speeches, celebrity appearances, and dining. Lu Boyan suggested adding an opening dance to inject more vitality into the event. Su Hongyuan liked the idea but declared his "old arms and legs" incapable of dancing, proposing that Lu Boyan and Su Jianan perform it instead. Su Jianan immediately objected, claiming she couldn't dance, and Aunt Jiang worried about the additional workload.
However, Lu Boyan insisted that dancing wasn't difficult and he would teach Su Jianan, promising Su Hongyuan and Aunt Jiang an "amazing opening." Su Hongyuan, swayed by Lu Boyan's confidence, finalized the decision. Back home, Su Jianan confronted Lu Boyan, accusing him of wanting to see her make a fool of herself. Lu Boyan playfully dismissed her fears, assuring her of his presence and praising her coordination and flexibility. He then gently invited her to dance, promising to teach her.
After initial attempts to teach her conventional steps proved difficult for Su Jianan, Lu Boyan changed his method. He had her step directly onto his feet, guiding her through the movements, offering patient and gentle instruction as they practiced through the evening. At Han Ruoxi's photoshoot, her assistant informed her about the upcoming 20th-anniversary celebration for Su's beauty, which Han Ruoxi endorsed as their spokesperson, and presented an invitation from Ms. Jiang.
Han Ruoxi initially showed disinterest, asking if she could decline. However, her demeanor shifted drastically when her assistant mentioned the event's highlight: an opening dance performed by Su Jianan and Lu Boyan. Han Ruoxi expressed disbelief, stating that Lu Boyan typically disdained public displays. After Lu Boyan left Su Jianan to practice alone briefly, a media report played, highlighting the long-standing ambiguous relationship between Lu Boyan and Han Ruoxi and the "complicated love triangle" involving Su Jianan.
Han Ruoxi then appeared uninvited, confronting Su Jianan. She provocatively suggested that Su Jianan lacked talent for dancing, just as she lacked a stable foundation in her relationship with Lu Boyan, and that dancing with him would harm his image. Su Jianan calmly retorted that the idea for the double dance originated with Lu Boyan and he insisted she participate.
Han Ruoxi then boasted about her years of struggle and shared experiences with Lu Boyan, claiming they were the true couple. Su Jianan coolly challenged her, asking why Lu Boyan hadn't chosen Han Ruoxi to dance with him. Han Ruoxi, visibly annoyed, declared that they would "meet at the anniversary celebration." Su Jianan recounted the confrontation to Luo Xiaoxi, who became indignant, calling Han Ruoxi's words a "naked threat" and urging Su Jianan to have Lu Boyan block her.
Luo Xiaoxi then speculated that Han Ruoxi was behind past incidents, including cyberbullying, persuading Su Jianan to leave home, and the hotel scandal, likening her to a novel villain. She passionately encouraged Su Jianan to embrace the fight, despite Su Jianan's reluctance. As Luo Xiaoxi left, she made a call, comically rejecting an offer from Jiang Shaokai to be her dance partner for the upcoming event, stating that many people would line up to be her partner.
Shortly after, Lu Boyan sent Su Jianan several dress design drafts for the anniversary celebration. Su Jianan quickly chose a red design, and Lu Boyan immediately called his designer friend, Sophia, to arrange for its customization, also inquiring about a ring.
As Lu Boyan departed for a company meeting, his assistant Shen Yuechuan received a call from Han Ruoxi, who indirectly tried to find out where Su Jianan's anniversary dress was being made, feigning interest in ordering a dress for herself. The next morning, Lu Boyan accompanied Su Jianan to a high-end international brand store for the dress fitting, stating that he wanted to ensure she looked her best for his sake.
Luo Xiaoxi joined them, impressed by the luxurious shop and Su Jianan's "Mrs. Lu" status. Su Jianan expressed her newfound resolve to not let an outsider disrupt her own event. The sales assistant presented five customized dresses, including the striking red one Su Jianan had chosen. Su Jianan tried on the red gown, stunning Luo Xiaoxi, who exclaimed she looked like the "queen of the ball." Just as they were enjoying the moment, Han Ruoxi entered, initiating a sharp confrontation.
Su Jianan, now self-assured, asserted her status as "Mrs. Lu" and challenged Han Ruoxi's claims, pointing out that she was the one married to Lu Boyan and mocking Han Ruoxi's lack of a diamond ring from him. Han Ruoxi attempted to diminish Su Jianan's marriage as one based on family connections, reiterating her own long history with Lu Boyan. However, Su Jianan's sharp retorts and confident demeanor left Han Ruoxi looking sullen.
Luo Xiaoxi then stepped in, directly insulting Han Ruoxi, accusing her of being "coquettish" and staging drama, befitting a "famous actress." Luo Xiaoxi then firmly led Su Jianan away, remarking on Su Jianan's newfound assertiveness since marrying Lu Boyan. After the confrontation, Han Ruoxi purchased a similar red dress and instructed her assistant to modify it to precisely match Su Jianan's chosen style, implying that there would be "a good show to watch."
The 20th-anniversary celebration of Su's beauty began with guests and media arriving. Han Ruoxi, dazzling in a red gown, was interviewed, claiming that Lu Boyan had personally chosen the red dress for her, linking it to Su's beauty's first advertising campaign. Just as she was speaking, Su Jianan arrived, also in a red gown, walking hand-in-hand with Lu Boyan, immediately drawing media attention for the conspicuous "clash of outfits." Reporters questioned Su Jianan about the coincidence and Han Ruoxi's claim.
Su Jianan calmly stated that she chose red because Lu Boyan knew it was the color of Su's beauty's inaugural underwear line, subtly implying a deeper, shared understanding with him. When asked who looked better, Su Jianan confidently replied, "to each their own." Lu Boyan then intervened, emphatically stating that Su Jianan's dress was custom-made for her by his designer friend, Sophia, whose designs integrate seamlessly with the wearer's temperament.
He then pointedly offered to introduce Sophia to Han Ruoxi if she needed it, subtly suggesting her dress did not fit her well. He then excused them, stating they had an opening dance to prepare, and discreetly praised Su Jianan for her composed performance. Cornered, Han Ruoxi could only meekly respond that "what Bo Yan likes is naturally the best."
The celebration continued, with Aunt Jiang welcoming guests and media, followed by Su Hongyuan's speech, and finally, the eagerly anticipated opening dance by Su Jianan and Lu Boyan, who shared a knowing smile before taking the stage.
Episode 11 Recap
The evening commenced with a vibrant opening dance featuring Su Jianan, the eldest daughter of Su's Beauty, and her beloved Lu Boyan. Lu Boyan reassured Su Jianan to disregard others' gazes and dance as they had practiced. Their captivating performance, combining Lu Boyan's charm and their synchronized movements, earned thunderous applause from the appreciative guests. After the dance, Su Jianan expressed concern about Lu Boyan's drinking, though he insisted his happiness warranted it.
While she briefly left for the restroom, Han Ruoxi approached Lu Boyan and explicitly asked him to dance. When he questioned her intentions, she boldly stated it was a way for her to keep the secret of their impending divorce a year from now. Lu Boyan responded with a look of utter disdain. Meanwhile, Luo Xiaoxi, in an equally stunning gown from the same designer as Su Jianan's, was invited to dance by a gentleman.
Jiang Shaokai arrived late and, upon seeing Luo Xiaoxi dancing with a stranger, was visibly jealous. He immediately cut in, taking her hand and drawing her into his embrace, declaring he was there to "save" her, even though she had clearly been enjoying herself. Luo Xiaoxi dismissed his "heroics," telling him to focus on his own dancing. The two exchanged playful barbs before moving on.
Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai then engaged in a spirited drinking contest, each challenging the other to consume more alcohol, driven by a strange desire to win. Su Jianan, observing their escalating antics, intervened to curb their drinking. Suddenly, Lu Boyan's voice resonated through the hall, calling for her attention.
He invited her back to the stage and, in a heartfelt declaration, confessed his love for her since the first time he saw her, proclaiming that he had always known she would be his wife. As Su Jianan stood before him, Lu Boyan presented her with a dazzling diamond ring, meticulously customized to her size and prepared ever since she had agreed to marry him.
Reporters immediately surrounded them, barraging them with questions about the ring's origin, their past as deskmates, whether she knew about the proposal, the inspiration behind her novel's protagonist, and details about their relationship. In the midst of this overwhelming moment of public affection and celebration, Han Ruoxi, feeling isolated and superfluous, quietly left the event. Later that night, Lu Boyan, Luo Xiaoxi, and Jiang Shaokai were thoroughly inebriated, with only Su Jianan remaining lucid.
She helped a heavily drunken Lu Boyan back to their room. Although she considered leaving due to his state, Lu Boyan called out to her, forbidding her to leave before he went to shower. While drying his hair, Lu Boyan, still disoriented, looked in the mirror and commented on how "handsome" the person in the reflection was, even hallucinating a "Teacher Tony" offering to style his hair.
As Su Jianan turned off the lights for them to sleep, Lu Boyan, seemingly gripped by a deep-seated fear of darkness, frantically clung to her, begging her not to leave him. Su Jianan stayed by his side until dawn. The next morning, still affected by the previous night's drinking, Lu Boyan stared at his reflection in the mirror, proclaiming his handsomeness and somewhat deliriously calling out Su Jianan's name with a mix of complaint and accusation.
Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai also awoke to an awkward situation, finding themselves sharing a bed. Jiang Shaokai playfully told Luo Xiaoxi she was responsible, to which she retorted that it wouldn't be easy for him to enter her family. She then fretted about an upcoming interview, and Jiang Shaokai nonchalantly suggested she simply use concealer. He offered to drive her, and she, still flustered, urged him to hurry.
At Lu's media office, Han Ruoxi confronted Lu Boyan, reminiscing about their shared past, including buying his boss chair together, her working overtime by his side, and him tying her shoelaces in public. She claimed everyone once saw them as an enviable "golden girl" couple. Lu Boyan sternly reminded her to "understand her identity." Han Ruoxi retorted, questioning if his past actions were solely for the company and expressing disbelief that he had no feelings for her.
Lu Boyan definitively stated he never had any, implicitly attributing her persistent belief to Su Jianan's presence. Han Ruoxi accused him of orchestrating scandals to tarnish her image, such as gathering fans to block her and creating fake hotel gossip, implying he was also behind the incidents at Su's anniversary celebration. She passionately declared her love for him, believing no one could love him more.
However, Lu Boyan firmly stated that his love was, and always had been, for Su Jianan. Han Ruoxi, refusing to accept this, pressed him to "wake up," questioning if their marriage was merely a fake, one-year contract. Lu Boyan made it clear that their marital status was none of her concern. Han Ruoxi then threatened to terminate her contract with Lu's Media, reminding him that the company's success was due to her efforts.
Without hesitation, Lu Boyan called Shen Yuechuan and instructed him to proceed with the contract termination, leaving Han Ruoxi stunned and vowing he would regret it. Shen Yuechuan tried to persuade Han Ruoxi to reconsider, reminding her of the significant triple liquidated damages for early termination. He even offered to intervene with Lu Boyan and ensure she received the company's best resources.
Han Ruoxi, however, declared that Lu Boyan was the only one who mattered to her, and if he no longer cared, the company was an "empty shell" to her. Jiang Shaokai accompanied Luo Xiaoxi to an audition, trying to ease her nerves. The director, after dismissing another actor, instructed Luo Xiaoxi to express various emotions while eating durian. He had her perform surprise, playfulness, sexiness, excitement, and even emotional and happy reactions, all while consuming the fruit.
Despite her efforts, the director repeatedly found her unsuitable, causing Luo Xiaoxi to feel extremely nauseated and even throw up. Frustrated, Jiang Shaokai intervened, scolding the director for intentionally making things difficult. The director then dismissed Luo Xiaoxi, declaring her unfit for the role. Outside, a disgusted Luo Xiaoxi complained about the "perverts" who made her eat so much durian.
Jiang Shaokai chastised her for pushing herself so hard, leading to a heated argument where she blamed him for her failure. He retorted that the director was deliberately tormenting her. Despite their bickering, Jiang Shaokai promised to accompany her to her next audition. At the Taoran Literature Society, Su Jianan found herself constantly addressed as "Mrs. Lu" ("Lu Taitai") by colleagues, the president, and even reporters.
While the president praised her novel's soaring popularity, attributing it to her "first-hand career, first-hand family" approach and suggesting she write about her public confrontation with Han Ruoxi, Su Jianan felt a growing unease. She received accolades and financial bonuses, but the pervasive "Lu Taitai" title made her uncomfortable, feeling it overshadowed her identity as "Jian'an."
Her colleagues, while ostensibly praising her, gossiped behind her back, some seeing her status as being "kept," while others mocked her for selling her privacy and claimed their own "sweet pet" novels would be far better if they had a "boss husband" like Lu Boyan. Reporters relentlessly questioned her about her novel's inspiration from her relationship with Lu Boyan, their rumored childhood romance, the alleged rivalry with Han Ruoxi, and implied her marriage was merely a PR stunt.
They also questioned whether she believed her novel would be popular without Lu Boyan's "hype" and resources. As someone delivered a large number of clothes ordered for her by Lu Boyan, the relentless references to her as "Mrs. Lu" and her past as "Underwear Queen" culminated in an internal thought: "When will I be myself?" Just then, Lu Boyan appeared, asking her, as "Lu Taitai," what was wrong.
Episode 12 Recap
Su Jianan felt increasingly uneasy, not wanting to be defined solely by her identity as Lu Boyan’s wife or become his mere accessory. Lu Boyan struggled to grasp her perspective, believing that fulfilling her wish to write and publish novels was a husband’s duty. However, Shen Yuechuan enlightened him, explaining that if Lu Boyan handled everything for Su Jianan, she would lack a sense of accomplishment and a means to demonstrate her own value.
Shen Yuechuan advised Lu Boyan to give her space and secretly support her rather than always doing everything himself. Feeling restless, Su Jianan sought inspiration at a bookstore. She reached for a classic novel at the same time as a gentleman. She shared that she was an online novelist seeking new ideas from classics. The gentleman, noting her apparent creative block, gently suggested she might need that particular book, which tells the story of a girl pursuing self-realization amidst hardships.
He advised her to travel and explore the world to gain new insights for her writing, rather than remaining stifled. As he left, he received a call from "Director Guo", who was meeting with "General Manager Kang." Meanwhile, Kang Ruicheng, identified later as Kang Ruicheng of Ruijin Group, met with Director Guo to discuss a script. Director Guo praised the novel’s unique supernatural theme but critiqued its underdeveloped emotional narrative, suggesting revisions.
Kang Ruicheng proposed contacting President Du of Taoran Literature Network, an old classmate, as their platform had many talented female authors who could refine the script. They also emphasized the urgent need to finalize the lead actor. At the same time, Han Ruoxi’s assistant, Yueyue, tried to comfort a distraught Han Ruoxi, who was drinking heavily.
Yueyue urged her to consider new offers, noting that many companies were eager to sign her after her departure from Lu's, especially given the outstanding liquidated damages she owed Lu's. Yueyue highlighted one persistent company, Ruijin Group, which offered a very generous contract. Han Ruoxi eventually agreed to meet Kang Ruicheng. Kang Ruicheng commended Han Ruoxi’s talent and expressed surprise at her leaving Lu’s.
He presented his project, assuring her that joining Ruijin Group would lead to greater achievements than before, making those who once overlooked her see her in a new light. Han Ruoxi agreed to sign, on the condition of a grand signing ceremony. Kang Ruicheng readily accepted, and the news quickly spread about her high-profile signing with the powerful Ruijin Group.
Stuck in a creative rut, Su Jianan decided to pause her novel, realizing she couldn't keep writing solely about her relationship with Lu Boyan. She informed President Du of Taoran Literature Network, who was heartbroken, lamenting the significant loss of readership for the website if her popular novel ceased updates. Su Jianan explained that while her novel’s popularity was undeniable, she felt it stemmed more from the "halo of Mrs. Lu" than her own writing.
She wished to gain recognition through her own efforts and needed time to adjust and reflect. As they discussed her plans, a staff member informed President Du that no authors were willing to take on the demanding role of on-set screenwriter for a novel adaptation project. Su Jianan, overhearing, immediately volunteered for the position.
President Du initially hesitated, concerned about the strenuous conditions and her recent marriage to Lu Boyan, but Su Jianan firmly promised to persuade Lu Boyan, and President Du eventually agreed. Later, Lu Boyan was watching a television program discussing marital relationships, specifically emphasizing the importance of understanding and giving a partner space for their career pursuits. Su Jianan returned home and told him she planned to work out of town for two months.
Lu Boyan initially expressed support for her career decisions, but upon hearing the duration, he vehemently objected, repeatedly stating he couldn't agree to two months. He was seen in an internal struggle, comically practicing his refusal, even briefly consulting Shen Yuechuan on company operations in his absence, before reiterating his firm stance against her leaving. Concurrently, Luo Xiaoxi prepared for another audition, with Jiang Shaokai accompanying her as promised.
She explained it was for a film and that the director thought she had "good conditions," though Jiang Shaokai disapproved of the role—a "seductive and uninhibited" woman. Luo Xiaoxi insisted on taking the chance to gain experience. During her audition, she performed the flirtatious character with confidence. However, the moment the director called "Cut!" , she immediately pulled her top together. The director, later identified as Director Fang, praised her potential but noted her performance lacked conviction.
Later, in what seemed to be a private dressing area, Director Fang attempted to sexually harass her, grabbing her hand and telling her she needed to "release her nature" for the role, refusing to let go when she resisted and implying she would get the role if she complied. Luo Xiaoxi sternly warned him to show respect, then defiantly counted to three.
When he did not release her, she violently attacked him with knees to the groin and fists, crying out that he was harassing her. Jiang Shaokai, hearing the commotion, rushed in. Initially, he tried to stop her, but upon realizing the director’s predatory actions, he joined the assault, punching and kicking Director Fang. As other staff members arrived, they fled the scene.
Outside, Luo Xiaoxi gratefully kissed Jiang Shaokai for his intervention and secured his promise to accompany her to her next audition. Afterward, Jiang Shaokai made a call, asking someone to teach an "industry scumbag" a lesson. Later, Su Jianan once again spoke to Lu Boyan, reiterating her desire for independence and growth, emphasizing her need to broaden her horizons and accumulate life experiences beyond what she could write about their relationship.
Lu Boyan, while still reluctant about the two-month separation, proposed a compromise: she could go if she completed a list of tasks from their "love checklist." Su Jianan agreed. As part of their agreement, they were seen riding a tandem bicycle and strolling by the seaside, both wearing matching, somewhat childish, couple’s outfits. Lu Boyan admitted it was his first time wearing such an outfit and that he had always wanted to try it.
Su Jianan expressed her gratitude for his past support, acknowledging that their relationship had significantly boosted her novel’s readership. Lu Boyan assured her that he understood her desire to achieve recognition through her own efforts and promised to always be her most loyal reader. Meanwhile, Jiang Shaokai visited President Du at Taoran Literature Society, where Director Guo was also present.
Jiang Shaokai took the opportunity to inquire about casting for Director Guo’s new film and enthusiastically recommended a talented friend who needed a chance. Director Guo, trusting Jiang Shaokai's judgment, agreed to an audition. On the day of the audition, Luo Xiaoxi emerged looking glum, leading Jiang Shaokai to comfort her, but she then excitedly announced that she had been selected for the role, surprising him.
She revealed that Jiang Shaokai had secretly submitted her profile to Director Guo to get her the audition, wanting her to succeed on her own merit without pressure. Grateful, she promised to treat him to a drink. Finally, Su Jianan announced to her online fan group, the "Oterians Alliance," that her novel would be temporarily suspended. Her loyal readers, "Oterians," expressed sadness but promised to patiently await her return.
Shortly after, Luo Xiaoxi called Su Jianan, and during their conversation, they discovered they would both be working on Director Guo’s film in Luochuan City. Excited about becoming colleagues, they agreed to meet at the train station the next day. The night before Su Jianan’s departure, Lu Boyan meticulously prepared various items for her, from milk to extra clothes for temperature changes and skincare products, placing them around their home.
The following morning, Su Jianan called out for Lu Boyan, thinking he had left for work, but found him still diligently gathering more items, holding bags full of last-minute necessities for her trip.
Episode 13 Recap
Lu Boyan orchestrated an elaborate travel setup for Su Jianan's journey to Luochuan City. This included a spacious saloon car with distinct areas for temporary office work, a cooking zone for preparing meals even in remote locations, and a bathroom. He also arranged for Xiaocai, a nanny and New Oriental cooking school graduate proficient in eight cuisines, and Xiao Yong, a special forces veteran serving as her full-time driver and bodyguard, skilled in combat, driving, reconnaissance, and anti-reconnaissance.
Additionally, Lu Boyan booked a first-class ticket, planning for ground troops to precede her, with a rendezvous at Luochuan Airport before driving to the crew hotel. However, Su Jianan found this extravagant arrangement too high-profile for her goal of maintaining a low profile and gaining experience discreetly. She insisted on using the crew's shuttle bus instead of the saloon car, relying on packed lunches instead of a personal chef, and declared that Luo Xiaoxi would serve as her bodyguard.
Lu Boyan conceded, promising her significant compensation upon her return from the crew. Su Jianan then laid down strict rules for Lu Boyan: he was not to visit the crew, investigate their activities, or invest in the project, ensuring her experience remained ordinary. While Lu Boyan agreed, he made her promise to inform him immediately if anything happened.
Before departing, Su Jianan removed her ring for discretion, but Lu Boyan insisted she wear it, despite her concern about exposing their identity. Lu Boyan then escorted her to the station. They shared a tender farewell, with Lu Boyan reminding her to take care of herself and take her stomach medicine, while Su Jianan advised him on healthy habits. After Lu Boyan left, Su Jianan met Luo Xiaoxi, and they headed to Luochuan City together.
Upon their arrival, a young life producer, affectionately called Teenager, welcomed them and showed them to their rooms, assuring them of 24-hour assistance. The production of the film, "When Time is Stagnant," officially began. The next morning, Su Jianan presented her revised script to Director Guo, who approved it, finding it much improved.
He introduced Su Jianan as the new screenwriter to Jingjing and Xiaomin, the other screenwriters, and then to the female number one, Han Ruoxi, suggesting they communicate and cooperate on script modifications. An immediate tension was palpable between Su Jianan and Han Ruoxi. Later, during a script reading session, Han Ruoxi, surprisingly in attendance, launched into a harsh critique of Su Jianan's revisions.
She argued that the female lead's motivation was missing, the character was too weak, and a specific scene lacked design, rendering it unplayable for her. Luo Xiaoxi was incensed by Han Ruoxi's arrogant and seemingly targeted attacks, even suggesting revealing Su Jianan's true identity to the director. Su Jianan, however, calmly advised against it, emphasizing the importance of maintaining her low profile. That night, Su Jianan worked diligently into the early hours to revise the script again.
Lu Boyan called her, staying on a video call to keep her company. She sought his input on how a heroine in a difficult situation might overcome her struggles. Lu Boyan offered a general perspective, then remained with her virtually, observing her work until she completed the revisions as dawn broke. The following morning, Han Ruoxi was observed furiously reprimanding her assistant, Yueyue, for bringing her lilies, confirming her severe allergy to the flowers.
Later, on set, Luo Xiaoxi expressed her nervousness for her first scene with Han Ruoxi, a dramatic confrontation where Luo Xiaoxi's character, Ruoxue, uncovers a betrayal by Han Ruoxi's character, Yutong. During the take, Han Ruoxi unexpectedly slapped Luo Xiaoxi, claiming it was an improvisation to intensify the emotional impact, a decision Director Guo surprisingly allowed. Luo Xiaoxi endured multiple slaps across subsequent takes, feeling deeply wronged.
Back in their room, Su Jianan comforted Luo Xiaoxi, applying a compress to her face, and recalling Han Ruoxi's earlier outburst about the lilies. Su Jianan then shared that she had an idea, which would require Luo Xiaoxi's cooperation. Director Guo later offered Su Jianan a piece of advice, likening the crew to a "small Jianghu," implying she should take challenges in stride.
In a subsequent scene, the male number one, Ling Feng, attempts a romantic confession to Han Ruoxi's character, presenting her with a bouquet of lilies. Han Ruoxi, true to her allergy, immediately reacts with a violent sneeze and flees the set, much to Luo Xiaoxi's amusement, who shared a high-five with Su Jianan in delight.
During another script reading session, Han Ruoxi continued her relentless criticism of Su Jianan's script, specifically demanding the deletion of the 49th scene, threatening to withdraw from the production if her demands were not met, and blaming Su Jianan for filming delays. Su Jianan, finally having reached her limit and feeling she had nothing to lose, directly confronted Han Ruoxi. She refused to accept responsibility for the delays, accusing Han Ruoxi of unprofessional conduct and a lack of professional ethics.
As Han Ruoxi attempted to strike Su Jianan, she was stopped by Kang Ruicheng, the chief producer of the film. Su Jianan recognized him as the man she had previously met in the bookstore, who was also the boss of Ruijin Entertainment, the company Han Ruoxi had recently signed with. Kang Ruicheng dismissed Han Ruoxi and the others present.
He then assured Su Jianan that her script's overall emotional arc was sound, only suggesting a need to strengthen character relationships in later parts of the story. He also apologized to Director Guo and Su Jianan for Han Ruoxi's behavior, explaining that she was an artist from his company. Kang Ruicheng expressed his surprise at meeting Su Jianan on set, to which she simply replied she wished to learn more.
Later, Kang Ruicheng spoke with Han Ruoxi, urging her to maintain professionalism and not let personal animosity interfere with her work. Han Ruoxi retaliated by revealing Su Jianan's identity, shouting that she was Lu Boyan's wife, a revelation that visibly shocked Kang Ruicheng. In the following days, he consistently declined Su Jianan's requests for guidance on script matters, citing a busy schedule.
However, when he accidentally cut his arm on set, Su Jianan immediately rushed to his aid, quickly bandaging his wound with her hair tie. This act triggered a strong sense of recognition in Kang Ruicheng, as he recalled a similar past incident where he was injured, and a masked girl had similarly bandaged him with a hair tie. The connection between the two events seemed to dawn on him.
Despite this realization, Han Ruoxi's earlier revelation about Su Jianan's marriage to Lu Boyan weighed heavily on his mind. Before departing for a few days, Kang Ruicheng instructed Song Yu to monitor the set and shooting progress in his absence. That night, Su Jianan dreamed of Lu Boyan, feeling a longing for him. Meanwhile, Lu Boyan, after reviewing Su Jianan's crew notice, discovered she was on an outdoor shoot. Despite her earlier restrictions, he immediately decided to go to the set, ordering his assistant to make the arrangements and also to investigate the identity of the film's "boss behind."
Episode 14 Recap
The film crew was working deep in the mountains, surrounded by sparse equipment and a large number of people who seemed insignificant against the vast landscape. The quiet was suddenly broken by a clang and a shout announcing mealtime, drawing everyone in. Luo Xiaoxi and Su Jianan received bowls of plain boiled noodles with tofu and vegetables, a stark contrast to the four dishes served to Han Ruoxi, who still found the meager fare unpalatable.
The crew's life producer was confronted by a frustrated crew member about the poor food and suspected embezzlement, but he insisted the production truly had no money. The director, exasperated, pleaded with everyone to make do for the sake of art. Unexpectedly, a small brown bear on an electric tricycle arrived on set, delivering takeout for Su Jianan. She denied ordering anything, astonished by the lavish spread of snacks, various dishes, and a small speaker he set up for her.
The bear, who everyone soon affectionately called Brother Xiong, politely invited her to eat, then played music and scattered flower petals, transforming her lunch experience. Su Jianan generously invited everyone to share the feast, and the crew eagerly joined in, leaving only a sulking Han Ruoxi to continue nibbling on her cold bun. From then on, most of the crew adored Brother Xiong, as his arrival always meant a delicious meal. Brother Xiong became an indispensable presence.
When rain suddenly poured, he appeared behind Su Jianan, holding a large umbrella over her when she had nowhere to shelter. During warm nights, he brought insect repellent and shooed away mosquitoes while she studied her script. On hot days, he distributed water to the entire crew, quickly endearing himself to everyone.
One day, while helping Brother Xiong retrieve his phone from inside the heavy bear costume, Su Jianan realized who he truly was, exclaiming, "Mr. Lu, don't move," and then, "General Manager Lu!" The bear suit belonged to Lu Boyan, who had been secretly supporting her. Later, when Su Jianan called to thank him for the meals, Shen Yuechuan answered, stating Lu Boyan was busy, but Lu Boyan himself was listening in, keen to maintain his disguise.
With a crucial crowd scene lacking enough actors, the director called upon crew members to fill in. Lu Boyan, still in his Brother Xiong costume, and Su Jianan were chosen to act as an affectionate couple. As the director called "Start," Su Jianan gently removed Lu Boyan's bear head, saying, "I know it's you. Do you miss me?" He responded, "Yes," before they shared a tender kiss.
Meanwhile, at Tao ran Literature Network, Jiang Shaokai diligently served tea to President Du, determined to make a grand proposal to secure the novel development rights for the movie "When Time is Stagnant," largely motivated by his desire to see Luo Xiaoxi. He reasoned that with Han Ruoxi and Director Guo involved, the movie was sure to be a hit, bringing a massive influx of readers to their website.
Acknowledging that such rights would be costly, Jiang Shaokai suggested financing it by convincing partnering manufacturers to integrate their products into the movie and the novel, which he believed could even lead to additional budgets. President Du, though initially skeptical, agreed to the plan if Jiang Shaokai could secure the funding. Later, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan hosted Luo Xiaoxi for a meal.
Lu Boyan attentively peeled crayfish for Su Jianan, their affectionate display making Luo Xiaoxi feel like she was eating nothing but "dog food." Fed up, she abruptly left. Moments later, she received a call from a drunken Jiang Shaokai, who was boasting about his success and promised her a surprise in a couple of days. At the "Su's Beauty" anniversary party, Kang Ruicheng observed Lu Boyan and Su Jianan with an air of resentment.
His assistant informed him of serious capital chain issues within the company, urging him to keep it confidential to avoid affecting team morale. Later, as Lu Boyan walked Su Jianan back to her place, they encountered Kang Ruicheng. Su Jianan was surprised to discover that Lu Boyan and Kang Ruicheng already knew each other. Lu Boyan subtly confronted Su Jianan about not revealing that Kang Ruicheng was an investor in her play.
Kang Ruicheng then hinted at their long-standing business rivalry. Han Ruoxi, appearing unexpectedly, revealed to Kang Ruicheng that Lu Boyan and Su Jianan's marriage was merely a contract. She then proposed an alliance, promising Kang Ruicheng that Su Jianan would be his, and Lu Boyan would be hers. Kang Ruicheng implicitly agreed.
Lu Boyan urged Su Jianan to return home with him, but she refused, emphasizing her commitment to her work as a screenwriter and her reluctance to abandon her responsibilities. As he tried to persuade her, Lu Boyan received an urgent call from Shen Yuechuan, informing him of a critical company inspection in Yong'an city the following day.
Recognizing his unavoidable duty, Lu Boyan reluctantly agreed to book a flight back to Tao ran, imploring Su Jianan to prioritize her health and inform him of any issues. As he departed, he entrusted Luo Xiaoxi with Su Jianan's care. Separately, Kang Ruicheng brazenly declared to Lu Boyan his intention to take Su Jianan away, offering to pay any liquidated damages. Lu Boyan retorted that their rivalry was purely commercial and that Kang Ruicheng should not involve Su Jianan.
True to Jiang Shaokai's promise, strange product placements began to appear in "When Time is Stagnant." Luo Xiaoxi, who had to act out scenes involving romantic fantasy paired with electric tricycles and bulletproof frying pans, grew increasingly frustrated. She confronted Su Jianan about the bizarre insertions. Su Jianan explained these were non-negotiable demands from advertisers, and eventually, the source was revealed to be Jiang Shaokai when he appeared.
Jiang Shaokai tried to impress Luo Xiaoxi with the "increased exposure" these placements would bring, but she exploded, attacking him for the embarrassing endorsements. Su Jianan intervened, defending Jiang Shaokai by explaining he had drunk heavily and gone to great lengths to secure these sponsorships for Luo Xiaoxi's benefit. Realizing his true intentions, Luo Xiaoxi's anger softened, but she still sent him away, refusing his offer for a drink, citing her early morning work. Shortly after, Su Jianan received a call from Kang Ruicheng, who, facing severe capital chain issues within his company—which was also investing in the film—requested her help.
Episode 15 Recap
General Manager Kang informed Su Jianan and Director Guo that the project's capital chain was experiencing problems. He explained that he needed to make some adjustments to the script to control costs and ensure completion of filming, specifically by replacing expensive, large-scale sets without compromising the story's selling points.
Su Jianan, initially hesitant as she had no prior experience with such modifications, agreed to try after General Manager Kang reassured her that he would take full responsibility and cooperate with Director Guo in the process. Han Ruoxi was present during this discussion but remained silent. The following day, General Manager Kang led Su Jianan to Han Ruoxi's room, where Han Ruoxi was unusually friendly and humbly sought their help in understanding the emotional nuances of a scene.
She described a scenario where a female supporting character, Yutong, secretly loves the male lead, Ling Feng, and attempts to confess despite knowing he is in love with the female lead, resulting in the female lead overhearing and feeling betrayed. Han Ruoxi admitted she couldn't grasp the female lead's psychological state. Su Jianan suggested they act out the scene, with herself playing Yutong and General Manager Kang portraying Ling Feng.
During their intense rehearsal, Su Jianan, as Yutong, expressed deep gratitude to Ling Feng, confessed her uncontrollable feelings, and wished for a chance to have met him earlier. General Manager Kang, as Ling Feng, responded by saying they couldn't control time but could shape the future. While observing, Han Ruoxi secretly filmed their performance. At that moment, Lu Boyan called Su Jianan.
Han Ruoxi subtly answered Su Jianan's phone, allowing Lu Boyan to overhear the "passionate confession" lines from the acting taken out of context. Lu Boyan, shocked and enraged by the misunderstanding, hung up abruptly. Han Ruoxi, pleased with the outcome, effusively praised their acting. Later, Su Jianan received another call from Lu Boyan, during which she explained that she was rehearsing due to the crew's investment issues.
Lu Boyan immediately demanded her return, offering to set up a new crew for her and make her chief screenwriter. Su Jianan grew frustrated, insisting her work didn't need his interference and she wouldn't abandon the project, especially after the crew's efforts. She emphasized her commitment until the project's completion, leading to a heated argument and an abrupt end to their call. Later that night, while Su Jianan was revising the script, General Manager Kang joined her.
He expressed concern that he might have put too much pressure on her, but Su Jianan reassured him that she was fine and dedicated to building her own independent career. He then returned a hairband that he had previously used to bandage her wound.
Although Su Jianan suggested he keep it, he insisted on returning it and even offered to tie her hair with it as a reciprocal gesture, reminding her that she hadn't refused his help when he first bandaged her wound. Just as he was tying the hairband, Lu Boyan burst into the room. Seeing Kang Ruicheng's intimate gesture, Lu Boyan was enraged and immediately punched him. Su Jianan, shocked, tried to intervene, shouting at Lu Boyan, calling him crazy.
Lu Boyan, ignoring her pleas, told Kang Ruicheng to be quiet and forcefully grabbed Su Jianan, demanding she leave with him. Su Jianan struggled against his grip, telling him to let go. Lu Boyan angrily confronted Su Jianan, questioning if the intimacy he witnessed was the true reason she insisted on staying with the crew. Su Jianan vehemently denied it, accusing him of taking things out of context and explaining that Kang Ruicheng was merely returning a hairband.
Lu Boyan, however, dismissed her explanation with sarcasm, then accused her of wishing she had met Kang Ruicheng earlier if time could be reversed. Su Jianan, exasperated, told him his words were nonsense and demanded he stop making a scene. Lu Boyan insisted she return home with him, but Su Jianan defiantly asserted her independence, stating he had no right to control her work or her career, and that she would finish the film regardless.
When he pressed her on whether she would finish it with Kang Ruicheng, she retorted that her work choices were none of his business, emphasizing she was not his possession and her dreams were not charity to be bestowed upon her. She accused him of lacking respect and expressed deep disappointment, lamenting that he remained the "self-righteous big liar" he always was, despite her hopes for his change.
Emotionally, she declared they should no longer meet and should end their relationship when their contract expired. Afterwards, Su Jianan apologized to Kang Ruicheng for involving him in the altercation, but he brushed it off, accepting responsibility for the misunderstanding and assuring her his minor injury was inconsequential. Han Ruoxi, who had been secretly observing the entire explosive argument, watched on, delighted. The cold war between Lu Boyan and Su Jianan persisted, leaving both in a state of deep despondency.
Su Jianan lost her appetite, often secluding herself despite her friends' attempts to make her eat. Luo Xiaoxi, frustrated by Su Jianan's unhappiness, suggested she try to forget her old love by finding a new one, a suggestion Jiang Shaokai quickly dismissed. Han Ruoxi, however, was not content with their mere cold war and sought to completely break them apart.
She approached Kang Ruicheng's assistant, Song Yu, mixing truth with lies, telling him that Su Jianan was forced into marriage with Lu Boyan, was unhappy, and that Kang Ruicheng loved her but was too timid to express it. She then manipulated Song Yu into helping Kang Ruicheng win Su Jianan from Lu Boyan. Meanwhile, Lu Boyan, equally affected by the cold war, stayed away from home, consumed by work, yet his mind kept returning to Su Jianan's words.
He painfully reflected on how, even after so many years and their marriage, he still caused her such disappointment. He pondered if his actions stemmed from a deep-seated fear of losing her, a pervasive insecurity, or a tendency to overwhelm her with what he thought she needed, rather than asking what she truly desired. Luo Xiaoxi, taking on the role of confidante, visited Su Jianan, urging her to break free from her self-imposed isolation.
While acknowledging Lu Boyan's often overbearing and unreasonable nature, Luo Xiaoxi highlighted his deep love and devotion, pointing out that he was exceptionally doting on his wife. She made Su Jianan realize that her growing courage in facing emotions since being with Lu Boyan proved her genuine affection for him, an undeniable truth that couldn't be masked by endless work.
Luo Xiaoxi reminded Su Jianan of a childhood incident where Lu Boyan, who used to tease Su Jianan by calling her a "fat girl who sells underwear," accidentally broadcast those words over the school radio. Su Jianan had cried, calling him a "big liar" then, a label she now repeated.
Luo Xiaoxi stressed the importance of communication in a lifelong relationship, advising Su Jianan to call Lu Boyan, listen to his voice, and understand his perspective, suggesting he was likely missing her intensely. Su Jianan, grateful for the advice, expressed that she now understood what she needed to do. However, as she resolved to reach out, her phone rang; it was General Manager Kang, reminding her about their upcoming location scouting for the next day.
At the Lu Group, during a meeting, Lu Boyan was visibly distracted. Afterwards, Shen Yuechuan confronted his boss, expressing his frustration with Lu Boyan's uncharacteristic state. Shen Yuechuan reminded Lu Boyan that he had transformed from a cold individual to a gentle one after meeting Su Jianan, clearly demonstrating his deep affection for her. However, Shen Yuechuan sharply criticized Lu Boyan's approach to love as "self-righteous," suggesting he was merely projecting his own ideas of what Su Jianan needed.
He accused Lu Boyan of being driven by a fear of loss, a fear of competition, and even an underlying insecurity within the relationship, leading him to overcompensate with excessive gestures. Shen Yuechuan pointed out the irony that while Lu Boyan was a revered "commercial genius" who never failed in investments, he was inexplicably timid and, effectively, "a loser" when it came to matters of the heart.
He passionately urged Lu Boyan to overcome his emotional barriers and openly express his feelings, emphasizing that even mistakes would only serve to prove the depth of his love. His words resonated deeply with Lu Boyan, who, stirred by the harsh truth, immediately instructed Shen Yuechuan to arrange his schedule for the next day, declaring his intention to "find my wife."
Episode 16 Recap
Su Jianan found herself modifying a script late into the night, her thoughts consumed by Lu Boyan. She recalled how he had meticulously prepared travel essentials for her the day before she joined the crew. Now, those items remained, but his whereabouts were unknown. The next morning, a weather forecast predicted heavy rain in the Luochuan area. General Manager Kang, dressed for a meeting, was scheduled to go on a scene survey with Su Jianan.
However, his assistant informed him that Director Guo required his immediate attention for an important play that night. General Manager Kang, thus preoccupied, entrusted all decision-making regarding the scene survey to Su Jianan, sending the assistant, Song Yu, to accompany her instead. The chosen outdoor location was an abandoned building, heavily overgrown with greenery, its derelict appearance perfectly fitting the story's theme. Su Jianan decided to check the rooftop for a better view. Song Yu readily agreed.
Upon reaching the rooftop, Su Jianan found it deserted. As the sky darkened and strong winds began to pick up, she realized the small access door had locked from the inside. She tried to call Song Yu, but the signal was poor. Although he promised to come up, he couldn't open the door and left to find help. Meanwhile, Song Yu contacted Han Ruoxi to report. She instructed him to wait before informing General Manager Kang.
Han Ruoxi believed that only when someone was at their most helpless, confused, and terrified would another person's assistance be truly remembered and appreciated. Separately, Lu Boyan arrived at Su Jianan's residence, knocking but receiving no answer. He tried calling her, but the approaching thunderstorm disrupted the connection. Despite the poor reception, he managed to hear Su Jianan's desperate plea, "I was trapped on the roof of the abandoned building on Nanping Road. Come and save me!"
He urged her to stay calm and find a safe spot, warning her about the lightning, and promised to come immediately. As Lu Boyan rushed towards the abandoned building, Han Ruoxi emerged from her residence. Seeing him, she immediately tried to stop him. She reminded him of their many years of shared struggles and her contributions to Lu's Media, implying that their history should hold more weight than his current focus.
Lu Boyan, however, dismissed her claims, stating that he only cared about Su Jianan and that their past was irrelevant. He asserted that while they might have once been friends, Han Ruoxi's choice to harm Su Jianan had irrevocably changed everything between them. Ignoring Han Ruoxi’s pleas, Lu Boyan pushed her aside and left.
Han Ruoxi, falling to the ground, immediately called Song Yu, instructing him to tell General Manager Kang to save Su Jianan, turning it into a race against Lu Boyan. Back at the abandoned building, the rooftop was plunged into complete darkness, with thunder and lightning lashing down. Su Jianan huddled behind a supporting pillar, terrified by the pervasive darkness.
She remembered a past "Room Escape" game with Lu Boyan where he couldn't tolerate even a moment of darkness, and she worried how he would cope with this situation. Her fears were well-founded. As Lu Boyan entered the pitch-black stairwell, he was immediately enveloped by a crushing fear. His breathing became ragged, his legs turned to jelly, and he collapsed onto the ground.
Flashbacks of his childhood trauma, where he was kidnapped and locked in a dark, desolate room, flooded his mind, overwhelming him like an unstoppable tide. Despite his terror, he rallied, telling himself that only he could break this deadlock, and urged Su Jianan to wait for him. Finally, the rooftop door creaked open. Lu Boyan, pushing past his fear, called out Su Jianan's name and embraced her.
He apologized for his self-righteousness, admitting he had wronged her by his interference with her dream and not considering her feelings. Su Jianan confessed her own fear of losing him. A powerful wave of shared longing enveloped them, revealing the torment they had both endured from their separation. Acknowledging their deep affection, they vowed to compromise and communicate better.
Lu Boyan offered to take her back to the hotel, but Su Jianan, having nearly finished her script, insisted they go home instead. They embraced and shared a tender kiss, a scene witnessed by Kang Ruicheng, who arrived just a moment later. Instead of going straight home, Lu Boyan led Su Jianan to their shared alma mater. Under a large, familiar tree, he unearthed a box.
Inside lay a torn photograph of a chubby Su Jianan and a smiling Lu Boyan. He explained that the infamous school broadcast, which had only played the first half of a sentence, had caused a misunderstanding. He revealed the full, unsaid truth that he had wanted to tell her since July 12th: "Nobody likes to be friends with a fat girl, but I, Lu Boyan, just like it!"
He confessed his enduring love for her, explaining that his past silence was due to his fear that she wouldn't forgive him or would leave him. He promised to cherish her no matter what. Overjoyed, Su Jianan leaned in and kissed him. With their hearts finally aligned, Lu Boyan invited Su Jianan to share his bed. That night, as they lay together, Su Jianan, a little shy, watched him.
When she turned off the light, Lu Boyan suddenly flinched, startled by the darkness. She quietly wondered if he was still afraid of the dark. The next morning, Su Jianan tried to gently inquire about his reaction, but Lu Boyan skillfully dodged her questions, even preventing her from going to the kitchen, claiming it as his territory.
She later learned from Yuechuan that Lu Boyan's birthday was approaching, but he never celebrated it because it tragically coincided with his father's death anniversary. She also learned that this was the same date, July 12th, when Lu Boyan had arranged to meet her in childhood to explain the broadcast incident. She began to suspect a connection between this significant date and his fear of darkness. Determined to understand and help, Su Jianan gently pressed Lu Boyan for the truth.
She acknowledged his reluctance to speak but emphasized her worry as his wife. She recalled that thirteen years ago, on July 12th, the day they were supposed to meet and the day his father passed away, his fear of darkness had begun. She revealed that she had researched it and understood he suffered from nyctophobia, a mental trauma often rooted in childhood. Lu Boyan finally confessed that that day was the darkest of his life.
He had been on his way to apologize to her at their meeting spot when he was kidnapped by his father's business rivals and locked in a dilapidated, dark room. By the time he was rescued and arrived at their meeting place, she was gone, leaving only a torn photograph behind. On that very same day, he not only felt that she had abandoned him but also lost his father to a sudden heart attack.
This double blow of losing two crucial people in his life on the same day caused him and his mother to leave Taoran City and left him feeling as if he had never truly escaped that dark room. Su Jianan, understanding the depth of his trauma, reassured him, reminding him of his innate bravery, and pledged to help him overcome his nyctophobia. That evening, Su Jianan brought an eye mask, initiating her "treatment method." She gently explained that there would be "rewards" if he cooperated, signaling her commitment to helping him brave the darkness.
Episode 17 Recap
Su Jianan began her treatment for Lu Boyan's fear of darkness by blindfolding him. The immediate onset of darkness caused Lu Boyan to tense up, grabbing at whatever he could reach. He struggled to breathe, ultimately tearing off the blindfold and gasping for air, admitting he couldn't stand it. Unfazed, Su Jianan calmly reassured him, "I will always be by your side." She then put the blindfold back on him.
She playfully guided him in the dark, asking him to follow her voice, moving around him and asking "Do you know where I am?" Lu Boyan, hearing her voice and occasional light touches, followed her until he finally embraced her. Su Jianan then rewarded him with a kiss, affirming his progress. The following day, Lu Boyan returned home to find Su Jianan arranging candles. He commented on the romantic atmosphere, asking what new tricks she had planned.
Su Jianan revealed her plan to turn off all the lights in the villa, leaving only a few candles as the light source, as a further step in his therapy. Lu Boyan initially expressed hesitation, noting that many psychologists had failed to help him. Su Jianan challenged him, asking if he was shrinking back and stating that it wasn't the Lu Boyan she knew.
Taking the bait, Lu Boyan agreed when she provocatively asked, "This gentleman, can I invite you to dance?" As the darkness enveloped them, more intensely than before, Lu Boyan tensed again, his expression momentarily blank with fear. But Su Jianan gently guided his hands to her waist, placing her own hands on his neck.
He clearly felt her presence, and the fear began to recede as they swayed together in the soft glow of the candles, Su Jianan reassuring him, "Don't be afraid that I am by your side. Look at me, Bo Yan." They gazed into each other's eyes, and everything seemed beautiful. With his mental state visibly improving after the initial sessions, Su Jianan informed Lu Boyan that it was time for the "ultimate treatment" in a cold, empty underground parking lot.
She encouraged him to have confidence, which he readily affirmed. As she prepared to turn off the lights, Lu Boyan, sensing the finality of the challenge, pleaded "Don't leave." Su Jianan reassured him, "You don't have to worry, I will always be with you," before plunging the garage into complete darkness. Lu Boyan, overwhelmed, cried out for Jian'an, then for help, feeling bound and abandoned, as if reliving the childhood memory of being tied up in a small dark room.
Su Jianan's calm voice guided him: "Bo Yan, listen to me. There is no rope at all. You are free. Nothing can restrain you. Trapped you, only your heart. I believe you can defeat it. Because in my heart, you have been the strongest since you were young. The bravest person."
She reminded him that the "little black house" of his past no longer existed and urged him to follow her voice, to trust himself, and to face his fears bravely, just as he had taught her. He eventually followed her voice and found the door, opening it to embrace her and the welcome light. Triumphant, he declared, "I got you!" Su Jianan affirmed his success, saying, "You made it."
The next morning, Shen Yuechuan greeted Lu Boyan, observing his good mood and attributing it to Su Jianan. Lu Boyan questioned his informal address of "Miss Su," prompting Shen Yuechuan to clarify that he refers to her as "Mrs. Lu" externally and "sister-in-law" internally. Shen Yuechuan then inquired about Lu Boyan's plans for his upcoming birthday. Lu Boyan stated he didn't want to celebrate and instead wished to visit his father's grave that afternoon.
Later, Shen Yuechuan consulted with Su Jianan, explaining that while Lu Boyan had overcome his fear of darkness, his father's death falling on his birthday still had a significant psychological impact. Shen Yuechuan suggested a birthday party, but Su Jianan disagreed, stating that such psychological treatment couldn't be forced and she needed to find another way. Shen Yuechuan offered his full support for any instructions she might have.
Shen Yuechuan called Luo Xiaoxi, inviting her to dinner at a new restaurant. Separately, Su Jianan arranged to meet Luo Xiaoxi at her home, mentioning she had something important to discuss. Jiang Shaokai, overhearing, insisted on joining, comically stating he was also "their sister," before Luo Xiaoxi pulled him away.
During their meeting, Su Jianan confided in Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai about Lu Boyan's traumatic past, expressing her wish to give him a perfect birthday so that future birthdays would be filled with happy memories rather than just the sorrow of his father's death. Jiang Shaokai noted the difficulty of finding a gift for someone who seemingly had everything. Su Jianan then revealed her special gift idea: "I want to give myself to him."
After a meeting, as Lu Boyan was preparing to leave his office, he noticed a large, half-person tall gift box. Unaware of its origin and believing it wasn't his, he instructed Shen Yuechuan not to send such unknown items to his office again and to have the cleaning staff dispose of it immediately. Upon arriving home, he was greeted by Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai, who cheerfully announced they were there to celebrate his birthday.
However, Su Jianan was nowhere to be found, and her phone was nearby. This, coupled with the mention of a gift in a box, made Lu Boyan connect her absence with the mysterious package he had dismissed earlier. He immediately called Shen Yuechuan, frantically asking about the box from his office.
Shen Yuechuan confirmed he had asked the cleaner to handle it, and upon checking, informed Lu Boyan that it had been sent to the waste station in the south of the city. Frantic, Lu Boyan rushed to the waste station, calling out for Jian'an. An old man working there commented on the difficulty of finding lost things once they were gone.
When Lu Boyan described a pink box, the old man confirmed he hadn't seen it, adding that all of the day's waste had already been thrown into the incinerator. Lu Boyan, distraught, then spotted Su Jianan appearing from behind him, disheveled and covered in dirt. Relieved but also angry, he pulled her into a tight embrace, exclaiming, "Where did you run off to? You scared me to death!" Su Jianan affirmed she was fine and apologized for worrying them.
Jiang Shaokai and Luo Xiaoxi, also relieved, urged her to clean up, noting her "flower cat" appearance. Su Jianan then suggested they postpone their gathering, but Luo Xiaoxi insisted they leave to give Lu Boyan and Su Jianan privacy, quipping, "I won't bother you two." Lu Boyan then led Su Jianan inside the Lu family villa.
Inside the Lu family villa, after Su Jianan had cleaned up, Lu Boyan gently admonished her for the scare she caused, asking her never to do such a thing again. Su Jianan then proposed they celebrate his birthday, hoping that future birthdays would evoke joyful memories rather than just sadness. Lu Boyan agreed, instructing her to wait while he prepared something. He brought a birthday cake, and together they sang "Happy Birthday."
After he made a wish and blew out the candles, Lu Boyan eagerly asked for his present. Su Jianan replied, "Wait a minute," then surprisingly asked, "Can you turn off the light?" Lu Boyan questioned if she was truly okay with it, and she confidently affirmed, "I can do it." The next morning, Lu Boyan commented on her early awakening, teasing that she wasn't tired enough from the previous night.
Su Jianan playfully retorted, calling him "stinky radish" and accusing him of trying to overwork her by suggesting she make breakfast. As Lu Boyan prepared to leave for a meeting, he offered his services as a "creative consultant" if she ever needed inspiration, acknowledging her own busy schedule. Emerging from the Lu family villa, Jiang Shaokai and Luo Xiaoxi took a walk by the river.
Jiang Shaokai pointed out the paired stars and couples, then declared to Luo Xiaoxi that he no longer wanted to be just her friend, expressing his desire for her to be his girlfriend. He admitted that despite her overbearing and unreasonable nature, and her habit of twisting his ears, her image had been lingering in his mind since a particular night. Luo Xiaoxi, demanding a clear answer, warned him to stop playing hard to get.
Jiang Shaokai, in a grand gesture, tried to explain his sincerity, but Luo Xiaoxi cut him off, calling his words "Grandiose." She then gave him three conditions to consider, stating that if he fulfilled them, she might consider his proposal. Jiang Shaokai, ready to list his material possessions, was quickly dismissed by Luo Xiaoxi as "vulgar," who said she had sent the conditions to him, telling him to consider them carefully before contacting her. The next day, Luo Xiaoxi was on the phone, confirming that preparations were complete and she was awaiting someone's witness.
Episode 18 Recap
Following Luo Xiaoxi's challenges, Jiang Shaokai eagerly awaited her at a bar. He proudly declared that he had returned all his bar membership cards, deleted all female contacts from his WeChat, and immediately posted an oath on his Moments swearing eternal love to Luo Xiaoxi. Luo Xiaoxi, after confirming his efforts and warning him against future missteps, was pleased. She then invited her new boyfriend for a drink. At Taoran Literature Network, Chen Xuanxuan unexpectedly submitted her resignation.
President Du, who had nurtured her for many years, was taken aback by her sudden departure, suspecting it was due to Su Jianan taking the spotlight. Chen Xuanxuan was resolute, stating that one mountain could not accommodate two tigers, implying Su Jianan’s presence overshadowed her and there was no way for her to get ahead. With the termination agreement on the table, President Du realized he couldn't keep her.
He felt disheartened, knowing that someone he had trained would now work for General Manager Bao at Chunjiang Literature Network. President Du lamented the situation, noting that Chen Xuanxuan was a top female frequency author, and Su Jianan's "overbearing president" novel hadn't been updated, leaving Taoran Literature Network's female frequency section in a precarious state, especially since they had already abandoned male frequency novels.
Meanwhile, Su Jianan was enjoying a flourishing life, diligently working on her computer to complete a full update of her novel, aiming for an explosive release for her readers. Lu Boyan paced nearby, offering to help with publicity plans, but Su Jianan stopped him. She wanted to see the true reactions of her readers, good or bad, as valuable experience, preferring content to attract readers organically.
Since she didn't want his help with promotion, they decided to find inspiration together, leading to a tender, intimate moment. Late that night, President Du remained at the literature network, still anxious about its future. Suddenly, a series of numbers on the website surged, indicating that "Mr. Lu's Warm-Married New Wife" had skyrocketed to the top of the charts, with reader clicks rapidly increasing, as Su Jianan had updated her novel late into the night.
The next morning, President Du, holding a trophy, contacted Su Jianan. The sleep-deprived novelist soon appeared in the President’s office, where everyone had gathered. President Du ceremoniously presented Su Jianan with the "Platinum God" award. He also informed her that her novel was at the top of the charts and that if pre-orders reached 100,000 copies within two weeks, she could achieve her long-held dream of publishing a physical book.
Su Jianan worried about the high pre-order target, but President Du assured her it would be easy, given her novel's nearly one hundred million clicks. Upon returning, Su Jianan contacted her loyal reader, "Otter Alien," the leader of her "Monster Alliance" fan groups, expressing her uncertainty about reaching the pre-order goal. "
Otter Alien" reassured her of her popularity, revealing that her original fan group had expanded to ten full "Monster Alliance" super groups, and that members were constantly applying to join. Su Jianan, relieved, put down her phone and embraced Lu Boyan, who had also just put down his. She shared the good news, and while Lu Boyan wasn't surprised, he expressed his excitement.
Chen Xuanxuan, having signed with General Manager Bao's Chunjiang Literature Network, was unwilling to be outdone by Su Jianan. She insisted on launching her book, "The Prince's Runaway Beloved Concubine," for pre-sale at the same time as Su Jianan’s, charming General Manager Bao into securing numerous sponsorships and collaborations. She even hired a renowned designer for her book cover to create buzz.
Not to be outdone, Su Jianan suggested to Lu Boyan that since she couldn't directly accept his investment or sponsorship, they could design the cover together, believing it would be more meaningful. President Du worried about Chen Xuanxuan's aggressive tactics, including extensive bundled promotions and a famous designer, but Su Jianan remained confident, stating she believed readers would prefer better content over flashy marketing. By the lake, with a gentle breeze, Su Jianan brought out paper and a pen.
Lu Boyan held her hand, guiding her as they sketched their reflections, creating a profoundly meaningful cover that was uniquely theirs. This unique approach garnered significant attention, and after media reports, Su Jianan’s pre-orders far surpassed Chen Xuanxuan’s, leaving her far behind. With the added support of Su's Beauty, her father's company, Su Jianan's novel was on the verge of breaking the literature network's records.
Su Jianan’s father, General Manager Su, personally intervened, offering a "buy the book, get 50% off underwear" promotion through all Su's Beauty stores. Su Jianan was dismayed, accusing him of exploiting her novel to sell his products, but he insisted it was to ensure her success. Chen Xuanxuan, at Chunjiang Literature Network, was furious and desperate, with no viable counter-strategies. Just then, Han Ruoxi appeared, seeing an opportunity with a shared enemy.
She sent Chen Xuanxuan a secretly recorded video of Su Jianan and Kang Ruicheng rehearsing a scene. The following day, news reports exploded, questioning the relationships between Su Jianan, Lu Boyan, and Kang Ruicheng, implying a fabricated happy marriage for publicity. This scandal led to a rapid decline in Su Jianan's novel pre-orders and numerous unsubscribes. However, Lu Boyan fully trusted her.
After a discussion with Kang Ruicheng, it was decided that all three parties would hold a joint public clarification to address the rumors. At the press conference, the three officially clarified the facts. Kang Ruicheng explained that the video was a clip of him and Su Jianan rehearsing a scene for a movie, and he provided the script as proof. Su Jianan affirmed that Kang Ruicheng was a respected partner and the rumors were baseless.
She also clarified that her relationship with Lu Boyan was strong and supportive. Lu Boyan stated he would investigate those who secretly filmed and spread rumors. However, one reporter, intent on stirring trouble, challenged them, questioning why Su Jianan, as Lu Boyan's wife, worked with Kang Ruicheng in his crew and cooperated so intimately. The reporter suggested that her enjoyable collaboration with Kang Ruicheng implied a "soulmate" connection, then questioned her relationship with Lu Boyan. Kang Ruicheng, growing impatient, and Lu Boyan, unable to tolerate the accusations, demanded to know which news agency the reporter represented.
Episode 19 Recap
Reporters aggressively questioned General Manager Kang, probing why he would film late at night with Su Jianan, knowing she was Lu Boyan's wife, and urging him to "avoid suspicion." Another reporter immediately turned to Lu Boyan, raising concerns about Su Jianan's presence on General Manager Kang's film set. Su Jianan took the initiative, announcing that she would "confess" the truth.
She revealed that despite the intense business competition between their companies, she, Lu Boyan, and General Manager Kang had actually developed a profound mutual appreciation, becoming "bosom friends" who often met in private. Lu Boyan and General Manager Kang affirmed her statement, explaining that their close relationship had remained undisclosed due to corporate considerations. Surprised, the reporters requested a joint photo, and the two "brothers" obliged, shaking hands.
Later, Han Ruoxi furiously confronted General Manager Kang, accusing him of betraying her by helping Su Jianan. General Manager Kang dismissed her anger, stating that true affection was about "fulfillment, not possession," something she failed to comprehend. He then sternly warned Han Ruoxi to cease her "despicable methods," declaring that Ruijin Group would not tolerate artists with questionable character.
Although the immediate controversy had subsided, readers' enthusiasm for pre-ordering Su Jianan's novel remained low, with pre-orders significantly below the 100,000-copy threshold required for publication. Lu Boyan initially suggested to President Du that the novel should be published directly, bypassing the usual pre-order requirements. However, Su Jianan expressed confidence in her work and preferred not to alter the established publishing standards.
Lu Boyan's assistant reported that the previous negative publicity had severely impacted sales, and despite various promotional efforts, the numbers were not improving. He also mentioned that President Du had discussed the publishing standard with Su Jianan, but she firmly insisted on maintaining the 100,000-copy target, fearing that failing to meet it would be a major blow. To reignite fan enthusiasm and boost sales, Lu Boyan proposed a live broadcast with Su Jianan.
His assistant questioned the complexity of such an endeavor, but Lu Boyan, with unwavering confidence, stated that there was nothing he couldn't accomplish. Lu Boyan commenced the live broadcast, initially appearing stiff and serious, though viewers found his awkwardness endearing. He welcomed the audience, directing their attention to the pre-order button and explaining that for every 10,000 additional sales, he and Su Jianan would authentically re-enact a sweet scene from her novel.
He then playfully exposed "little monster" Su Jianan's sprawling sleeping habits, humorously demonstrating how she often pushed him to the very edge of the bed. For the first milestone, he announced that once sales increased by 9,000 copies, he would re-enact the novel's scene of the male lead kissing the female lead awake. Viewers eagerly pre-ordered, and as the target was swiftly met, Lu Boyan leaned in to fulfill his promise.
Su Jianan stirred awake, initially disoriented and annoyed, wondering who he was filming. Upon realizing it was a live broadcast, she quickly composed herself, transforming into a poised and charming author. She greeted the audience, introducing herself as "little monster Su Jianan, author of The warm-married New wife called Lu Shao," and encouraged everyone to pre-order and share her novel. Lu Boyan concluded, promising to continue enacting more classic scenes from the book.
Over the following days, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan continued their live stream series, faithfully recreating various romantic scenes from the novel. They visited the famed Lovers' Road, a place known for its romantic encounters, where they fed each other ice cream and engaged in other sweet interactions, eventually being overwhelmed and chased by enthusiastic fans. Back at home, Lu Boyan tenderly washed Su Jianan's feet, acting out a scene where the president husband cares for his weary wife.
He encouraged viewers that more sweet plots awaited them if they purchased the novel. For the grand finale, they announced they would "restore a bed play," which prompted Su Jianan to exclaim, "Lu Boyan, are you crazy?" The intense public interest fueled by these captivating live streams caused the novel's pre-orders to surge dramatically, ultimately surpassing one million copies.
Su Jianan was overjoyed to see her first physical book published, which she learned from Jiang Shaokai would soon be available in bookstores nationwide. Lu Boyan assured her there would be many more books, but Su Jianan cherished this first one especially, noting its title, "The warm-married New wife called Lu Shao," made it uniquely meaningful. Lu Boyan congratulated his "Lu Taitai," who in turn thanked her "Mr. Lu," before he suggested they should celebrate properly.
Jiang Shaokai was diligently handling the printing and distribution of Su Jianan's newly published book, earning high praise from President Du. He even tried to subtly ask for his bonus to be paid into a different account, a request President Du playfully threatened to expose to Luo Xiaoxi, making Jiang Shaokai quickly retract it. Jiang Shaokai returned home late, exhausted from work, complaining to Luo Xiaoxi about his fatigue and asking for "rewards."
Luo Xiaoxi, noting his smell, urged him to shower before heading downstairs to retrieve a package. Moments later, Luo Xiaoxi's father, accompanied by several black-suited bodyguards, dramatically entered the apartment. Jiang Shaokai, initially thinking they were debt collectors, tried to bluff them, claiming the place was his. However, Luo Xiaoxi's father revealed his identity, shocking his daughter, who hadn't seen him in a long time.
He explained that Luo Xiaoxi's mother had a nightmare about her encountering another "scumbag," prompting his visit. When Luo Xiaoxi introduced Jiang Shaokai as her "roommate," Jiang Shaokai, looking flustered, quickly made an excuse about needing to check on the printing factory and fled. Luo Xiaoxi's father, convinced his wife's dream was accurate, expressed his dismay at Jiang Shaokai's apparent lack of commitment, citing his past reputation as a playboy and his "guilty" behavior.
Despite Luo Xiaoxi's earnest assertions that she and Jiang Shaokai were genuinely in love and that he no longer frequented bars, her father declared that Jiang Shaokai's "cowardly" demeanor made him unfit to be his son-in-law. Luo Xiaoxi, anticipating her father's next move, asked if he was planning another "triple test," to which he confirmed he would follow "old rules" to uncover Jiang Shaokai's true character.
Later, Luo Xiaoxi confided her worries to a friend, contemplating Jiang Shaokai's hasty departure and fearing he might revert to his old ways, though her friend assured her that only she could "conquer" him. Jiang Shaokai was unexpectedly apprehended and brought to a KTV, where Luo Xiaoxi's father was waiting. Luo's father sternly questioned his relationship with Luo Xiaoxi. Jiang Shaokai, now composed, firmly stated that he was Luo Xiaoxi's boyfriend.
Luo's father brought up Jiang Shaokai's past as "Kai Shao," known for frequenting bars and pursuing women. Jiang Shaokai insisted that his wild days were behind him and that he had severed ties with his old companions since becoming involved with Luo Xiaoxi. Luo's father then pressed him on why he had denied their relationship the other night.
Jiang Shaokai explained that he had been caught off guard, unaware of his identity, and, being improperly dressed, had chosen to lie to avoid leaving a poor first impression. To atone for his perceived misstep, he self-punished by downing several drinks, which Luo's father acknowledged as "savvy." Jiang Shaokai proposed a toast as an official introduction. Luo Xiaoxi interjected that he had admitted their relationship and that was enough.
However, Luo's father continued to push for more drinks, intent on "measuring" Jiang Shaokai's worth. Jiang Shaokai continued to flatter Luo's father, praising his drinking prowess and Luo Xiaoxi's beauty. As the night progressed and more drinks were consumed, Luo's father's demeanor visibly softened. He then casually mentioned that Luo Xiaoyu, Luo Xiaoxi's cousin, would be visiting Taoran the next day, expecting Luo Xiaoxi to take good care of her.
Jiang Shaokai awoke with a start, finding a smiling Luo Xiaoyu beside him and frantically calling out for Luo Xiaoxi. Luo Xiaoxi entered, chiding him for drinking too much, and introduced Luo Xiaoyu as her cousin, a recent college graduate visiting Taoran. Luo Xiaoxi then informed Jiang Shaokai that his task for the day was to accompany Luo Xiaoyu and tidy up the apartment, as she had plans with her father.
Luo Xiaoyu offered Jiang Shaokai honey water, and they set out. They visited an arcade, where Luo Xiaoyu enthusiastically praised Jiang Shaokai as a "doll-clipping master" and her "male god" for his skill. Jiang Shaokai, however, promptly gave all the clipped dolls to Luo Xiaoxi.
Later, while helping with household chores, Luo Xiaoyu subtly began to badmouth Luo Xiaoxi, mentioning her temper, her frequent visits to bars, and her many male acquaintances, even recalling how Luo Xiaoxi used to bully her as a child. Despite these negative remarks, Jiang Shaokai steadfastly defended Luo Xiaoxi, asserting that he liked her precisely for who she was, flaws and all, and that their relationship, though sometimes argumentative, was deeply meaningful to him.
Luo Xiaoyu later reported her findings to Luo Xiaoxi's father, confirming that despite her attempts to highlight Luo Xiaoxi's shortcomings, Jiang Shaokai perceived them as virtues, a clear sign of his genuine affection. Luo Xiaoxi's father, satisfied, paid Luo Xiaoyu and declared it was time for the "second step" of his test. Luo Xiaoxi, unaware of the full extent of the test, expressed confusion, believing Luo Xiaoyu had simply left.
Her father, however, stated that Jiang Shaokai's lack of temptation by Luo Xiaoyu proved he wasn't interested in that "type," making the upcoming test even more crucial for Luo Xiaoxi's happiness. The ultimate test arrived as Qin Wei unexpectedly appeared, introducing himself as Luo Xiaoxi's fiancé. Luo Xiaoxi, stunned, quickly stated she already had a boyfriend.
Qin Wei, unfazed, displayed a "wedding letter" as proof of a pre-arranged "finger-sworn marriage" between their families, asserting that Luo Xiaoxi was bound to marry him regardless of her current feelings. He brazenly told Jiang Shaokai to "play with her" for now and then "roll away," promising to collect Luo Xiaoxi in three days.
Jiang Shaokai argued that such an ancient "wedding letter" held no legal standing in modern times, but Qin Wei countered that it was valid as long as both parents acknowledged it. Furious, Jiang Shaokai immediately dragged Luo Xiaoxi to confront her father. Luo Xiaoxi explained to Jiang Shaokai that this was a childhood "baby marriage" arrangement she hadn't known Qin Wei took seriously.
She reiterated her love for Jiang Shaokai but cautioned that Qin Wei's family was highly influential in Yong'an City, so powerful that even her father was wary, meaning they would need the Qin family's consent to annul the marriage. Jiang Shaokai, determined not to yield to feudal forces, decided to seek advice from Lu Boyan and Su Jianan, while Luo Xiaoxi went to plead with her father.
Lu Boyan confirmed that the Qin family was a major power in Yong'an City. He also clarified that while the "marriage contract" held no legal power, its practical effect would depend entirely on Luo Xiaoxi's father's stance, especially since the Luo and Qin families were old friends and Luo's father would likely favor Qin Wei. Lu Boyan advised Jiang Shaokai that his priority should be to gain Luo Xiaoxi's father's support and secure the Luo family's acceptance.
Later, Luo Xiaoxi's father declared his intention to take Luo Xiaoxi back to marry Qin Wei. Jiang Shaokai passionately intervened, arguing that he couldn't force Luo Xiaoxi into a marriage she didn't want, as it concerned her lifelong happiness. He professed his deep love for Luo Xiaoxi, emphasizing their shared experiences and unwavering commitment to each other, promising her a lifetime of happiness that transcended wealth. He implored Luo Xiaoxi's father not to disregard her feelings.
Moved by Jiang Shaokai's heartfelt plea and sincere declaration of love, Luo Xiaoxi's father finally relented. He agreed to personally negotiate with the Qin family for his daughter's happiness, albeit with a hint of trepidation, hoping to avoid any "bloody disaster."
Episode 20 Recap
Jiang Shaokai confessed to Luo Xiaoxi that he had forgotten to buy her a couple ring, despite their long time together. Luo Xiaoxi playfully acknowledged his conscience, then insisted on a big ring. As they picked one, Luo Xiaoxi’s former fiancé, Qin Wei, suddenly appeared with his people, along with Luo Xiaoxi's father, who appeared bruised and annoyed, blaming himself for failing to persuade them to break off the engagement and having seemingly been severely beaten.
Qin Wei confronted Luo Xiaoxi, accusing her of insulting his family by attempting to break off their engagement. He gave Jiang Shaokai a stark choice: be with Luo Xiaoxi or offend the Qin family. Jiang Shaokai, with tears in his eyes, firmly declared his sincere love for Luo Xiaoxi and his refusal to give her up, no matter the consequences.
He felt a sudden pain in his stomach, anticipating the worst, and began to make a final confession to Luo Xiaoxi as he stumbled, only to realize he was completely unharmed. Luo Xiaoxi then revealed that it was all a test orchestrated by her father, and the menacing individuals were merely her father’s employees. Jiang Shaokai was surprised to learn that Luo Xiaoxi’s family was in the "serious jewelry business."
Following the success of Su Jianan’s novel, which had over a million pre-orders, a celebration was held. During the event, Lu Boyan thanked Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai for taking care of Su Jianan when she was on a film crew. Jiang Shaokai dismissed his thanks, stating their shared hardships were far greater than Lu Boyan knew, and Luo Xiaoxi agreed.
Lu Boyan then extended a sincere invitation to Luo Xiaoxi to join Lu’s Media, explaining that Han Ruoxi had left the company and they needed a new benchmark. Luo Xiaoxi initially hesitated, worried people would accuse her of relying on Su Jianan’s connection, but Lu Boyan assured her he only invests in promising talent and believed she would become a great actress.
Convinced, Luo Xiaoxi accepted the offer and was introduced to Jiao Jie, her new manager, who promised Luo Xiaoxi’s "good days" were beginning. Luo Xiaoxi’s training began with Teacher Zhang, who noted her good foundation and set her positioning as a "vigorous girl." However, Luo Xiaoxi struggled with the precise eight-tooth smile, finding it unnatural and describing her face as feeling "practiced."
Jiao Jie instructed her to master everything from smiling to standing, sitting, and walking, promising daily checks on her progress, to which Luo Xiaoxi responded with a positive attitude. Du President approached Su Jianan, appearing uncharacteristically hesitant, and asked her to intercede with Lu Boyan on behalf of Chen Xuanxuan, requesting that she be given one last chance to return to the Taoran Literature Society.
Su Jianan found his request suspicious and subtly questioned if his feelings for Chen Xuanxuan were "unusual," which Du President quickly denied. When Chen Xuanxuan later returned, Du President, in a complete shift from his earlier demeanor, sternly rebuked her. He accused her of self-destruction by slandering Su Jianan and abandoning her work, saying her present apologies were "too late."
Tearfully, Chen Xuanxuan admitted her jealousy had made her betray her professional ethics as an author and that she felt unworthy of working for the Literature Network. She apologized to Su Jianan and expressed willingness to accept punishment. Su Jianan intervened, stopping Chen Xuanxuan from leaving and asserting that while mistakes happen, correcting them is good. She reminded Du President of Chen Xuanxuan’s past contributions to the Literature Network and urged him to be magnanimous and forgive her.
Influenced by Su Jianan’s compassionate plea, Du President agreed to give Chen Xuanxuan another chance, warning her to work diligently and avoid further trouble. Chen Xuanxuan, relieved and grateful, profusely thanked both Su Jianan and Du President, promising to work hard. Lu Boyan, contemplating their relationship, considered planning another grand wedding for himself and Su Jianan.
However, his thoughts were interrupted when Su Jianan received a call informing her that a film and television company owner wanted to discuss adapting her novel. Su Jianan excitedly shared the news with Lu Boyan, unaware of his earlier thoughts about the wedding. She soon began a series of meetings with various companies interested in her popular novel.
While Du President eagerly encouraged her to embrace the opportunities, Su Jianan found that many prospective partners seemed more interested in her popularity or the novel’s fan base than in the intrinsic value of her work. She politely declined their offers, explaining that adapting a novel into a film required extensive re-creation and a suitable production team to truly honor the original and respect her readers. She stressed the need for a rigorous approach.
Meanwhile, Lu Boyan observed Su Jianan’s growing exhaustion from these meetings. He initially considered asking Du President to reduce her workload to make time for their wedding plans, but seeing her fatigue, he decided to postpone the wedding indefinitely. When Su Jianan returned home, she confessed her worries to Lu Boyan: while she desired to see her novel on the big screen, she feared unreliable companies would either shelve it or adapt it poorly, disappointing her readers.
Lu Boyan offered to handle everything for her, but Su Jianan insisted on resolving the issue herself, wanting to prove her own capabilities rather than relying solely on his influence. Lu Boyan, though concerned for her, ultimately respected her decision. The premiere of the movie "When Time Is Stagnant" arrived.
Kang Ruicheng, having ensured post-production and release dates were set, personally invited Lu Boyan and Su Jianan to the event, expressing a desire for Su Jianan to see her work on screen. Su Jianan, excited for her first film as a screenwriter, convinced Lu Boyan to attend, who agreed, prioritizing her happiness. At the premiere, lead actress Han Ruoxi publicly praised Su Jianan’s talent, crediting her for enriching the character through significant adjustments.
Kang Ruicheng echoed the sentiment, calling Su Jianan the project’s "luck." When reporters inquired about future collaborations, given the film’s success and Su Jianan’s popular new novel, Kang Ruicheng stated it would be his honor to adapt her work. When the same question was directed at Lu Boyan, he kissed Su Jianan, affirming his full support and encouragement for his wife’s career, stating that her happiness was paramount.
News reports highlighted Lu Boyan’s public display of affection and the immense interest from various investment and production companies in Su Jianan’s new work, buoyed by the endorsement of Lu Boyan and Lu Group. Following the success of "When Time Is Stagnant," Luo Xiaoxi also experienced a surge in her online popularity, though Jiao Jie quickly reminded her to stay focused on training and not compare herself to Han Ruoxi’s greater fame.
Meanwhile, Su Jianan continued to meet with prospective partners for her novel’s adaptation. Many approached her primarily because she was Lu Boyan’s wife, offering uninspired ideas, such as changing characters to fit generic archetypes, or stating that her connection to Lu Boyan would guarantee success. She politely but firmly rejected these offers, concerned about the integrity of her work. Lu Boyan’s assistant also confirmed that all companies initially interested were unreliable.
Lu Boyan then reiterated his offer to invest and build a team for her, ensuring she had full control. However, Su Jianan, touched but resolute, insisted on achieving this milestone through her own efforts, not through his influence, stressing the importance of his respect for her autonomy. One day, Kang Ruicheng’s company proactively presented a proposal. Su Jianan was surprised, but Kang Ruicheng explained they waited to approach her officially to avoid causing any unnecessary complications with Lu Boyan.
Kang Ruicheng’s proposal was thorough and deeply respected the original novel, suggesting Su Jianan herself serve as creative producer and chief screenwriter, while his company handled production and investment. Su Jianan was immensely impressed and readily agreed to the collaboration, finding Kang Ruicheng’s plan exceeded her expectations. Later, as Lu Boyan waited for Su Jianan outside the Taoran Literature Society, she excitedly shared the good news.
However, upon hearing that her new partner was Kang Ruicheng’s company, Lu Boyan’s expression darkened. He questioned why she hadn’t discussed it with him, reminding her of their past conflicts related to Kang Ruicheng. Lu Boyan argued that such a collaboration would inevitably lead to them spending a lot of time together, implying ulterior motives from Kang Ruicheng and declaring he could not be "magnanimous" about it.
Su Jianan retorted that their relationship was strictly professional, based on shared artistic views, not a complicated personal affair, and accused him of being "stingy" and distrustful. The argument escalated, with Lu Boyan accusing Kang Ruicheng of having "ulterior motives" and demanding Su Jianan stay home, which she defiantly refused, insisting she had work to do. The tension between them escalated, pushing their relationship towards another cold war.
Episode 21 Recap
After thoroughly reviewing their contract, Shen Yuechuan informed Lu Boyan that there were no loopholes, making it impossible to prevent Su Jianan's collaboration with Kang Ruicheng. Given the situation, Shen Yuechuan suggested that Lu Boyan invest in the project instead, allowing Lu's entertainment company to become a co-producer with Kang Ruicheng's Ruijin Entertainment.
Lu Boyan subsequently met with Kang Ruicheng, who, after initially stating his commitment to the agreement he had already signed with Su Jianan, eventually agreed to the co-production on the condition that Su Jianan herself consented. That evening, Lu Boyan surprised Su Jianan with a candlelight dinner. Initially, Su Jianan was impatient, preoccupied with the demanding novel adaptation. She urged him to state his business quickly, eager to return to her work.
She had been so engrossed that she had forgotten it was her birthday, a detail Lu Boyan had meticulously remembered. With a snap of his fingers, a waiter brought out a pink cake adorned with candles, spelling out "Happy Birthday, Wife." Su Jianan hastily blew out the candles and made a wish, ready to leave. Lu Boyan snapped his fingers again, and a trolley full of gifts appeared.
As Su Jianan unwrapped the beautifully tied boxes, she discovered a Barbie doll she had longed for since junior high, and a pen Lu Boyan had accidentally broken years ago, promising to replace. She realized that Lu Boyan had been preparing gifts for her every year since their separation ten years ago, anticipating their reunion and the chance to give them to her in person. Overwhelmed, she never imagined they would one day marry.
Lu Boyan then apologized for his past narrow-mindedness, admitting he had difficulty with Kang Ruicheng being around her. He revealed his decision to invest in their project, promising not to interfere with her creative decisions, but hoping to contribute as a "creative consultant" due to his deep understanding of their story. He offered her cake, and then, gently lifting her chin, he finally kissed her. The next day, a contract signing ceremony took place under the media's watchful eye.
The chief screenwriter, Su Jianan, and the two co-producers, Lu Boyan and Kang Ruicheng, formally signed the agreement, shaking hands to mark the start of their collaboration. At Taoran Literature Society, the team began intense discussions for the project. Director Guo Ze was chosen to direct, praised for his previous success with "When Time Is Stagnant."
Kang Ruicheng suggested adjusting parts of the original plot for film adaptation, citing concerns about the forensic profession's "policy risks," the need to "streamline the plot" due to movie duration, and the deletion or merging of characters irrelevant to the main storyline. Lu Boyan, however, opposed all these suggestions, asserting that with the original work and Su Jianan's involvement, no adjustments were necessary. The discussion then moved to the movie's title.
Kang Ruicheng proposed a change from "Lu Shao's Warm Marriage New Wife," arguing it sounded too much like a "web novel" and would alienate mainstream audiences. Lu Boyan again disagreed, insisting the original title was crucial for attracting book fans. Su Jianan offered an alternative title, "Contract Period to Fall in Love with You," which she felt better reflected the story's contractual marriage premise.
Lu Boyan, however, was vehemently against this new title, and Su Jianan grew increasingly frustrated with his constant opposition to Kang Ruicheng's ideas. To resolve the dispute, Su Jianan decided to consult the readers. While one individual, identified as "Otertian," strongly rejected the name change, the majority of book fans accepted the new title, finding it to possess a more "advanced sense." Consequently, the movie was officially retitled "Contract Period to Fall in Love with You."
With the male roles mostly cast, the team shifted its focus to selecting the female lead and other female roles. Separately, Han Ruoxi approached Kang Ruicheng, expressing her strong desire to join the project. She clarified that she wasn't seeking the female lead role but instead wished to challenge herself by portraying the villain, a stark contrast to the positive characters she typically played. Kang Ruicheng agreed to recommend her.
Later, during a discussion about the female lead, Lu Boyan suggested Han Ruoxi for the part, unaware of her preference. Kang Ruicheng corrected him, explaining Han Ruoxi's interest in the villain role. Su Jianan confirmed Han Ruoxi's sincerity, and they agreed she was perfectly suited for the antagonist. After Han Ruoxi left, Lu Boyan then suggested Luo Xiaoxi for the female lead. Su Jianan, clearly irritated, pulled Lu Boyan aside.
He defended his choice, highlighting Luo Xiaoxi's temperament, image, and recent progress, and emphasizing their friendship. Su Jianan countered that the decision should be based on suitability and acting ability, not personal connections. She pointed out that Luo Xiaoxi's acting was not yet on par with Han Ruoxi's, who had wisely chosen a role that suited her.
Su Jianan accused Lu Boyan of "fooling around" and insisted she had a responsibility to her film, stating she would not continue if he forced Luo Xiaoxi into the role. Unbeknownst to them, Luo Xiaoxi arrived at the Literature Society during their heated exchange and overheard Su Jianan's cutting remarks about her suitability. Devastated, Luo Xiaoxi immediately left and later sought comfort from Jiang Shaokai, weeping in his arms.
She confided that she had worked tirelessly, not wanting to disappoint Su Jianan, and was heartbroken that her best friend viewed her involvement as "nonsense." Jiang Shaokai comforted her, promising to talk to Su Jianan the next day. That evening, Su Jianan, emotionally exhausted, told Lu Boyan she was too tired to discuss anything, postponing their conversation until the following night. The complexity of adapting a long novel into a ninety-minute film weighed heavily on Su Jianan.
To make matters worse, the product placement list Jiang Shaokai had secured was filled with entirely inappropriate items like "Shenbao," a "dating application," and "Vodka Lost Wine," completely clashing with the sweet tone of the narrative. When Jiang Shaokai came to discuss the list, Su Jianan confronted him, exasperated. Jiang Shaokai, however, criticized her in turn, accusing her of changing and losing sight of their friendship, particularly regarding Luo Xiaoxi.
He expressed his frustration with her apparent disregard for his efforts in securing sponsorships and declared he was withdrawing from the project, severing their ties. The strained encounter left Su Jianan even more disheartened. Later, Kang Ruicheng found Su Jianan looking troubled and offered words of encouragement, emphasizing the resilience needed when pursuing one's dreams. He offered to take her out for supper, but Su Jianan declined, explaining Lu Boyan was waiting for her at home.
Kang Ruicheng then drove her back. Meanwhile, Lu Boyan, who had prepared a large dinner at home, sought advice from Xu Bo on how to reconcile with Su Jianan. As he stood waiting, he watched from his window as Kang Ruicheng's car dropped Su Jianan off at her doorstep.
Episode 22 Recap
Su Jianan returned home to find Lu Boyan waiting, furious. He demanded to know why Kang Ruicheng had sent her back and what they had been doing. Su Jianan retorted, asking if he was interrogating her. Lu Boyan questioned if he had no right to ask why she was "fooling around" with another man at night, further asking if she considered him her husband. Su Jianan found him utterly unreasonable.
Although initially impatient with him, she suggested they have dinner and talk properly the following evening, to which Lu Boyan agreed. A housekeeper then informed Su Jianan that Lu Boyan had specially prepared dinner and had been waiting for her for hours, making Su Jianan realize his effort. At the Taoran Literature Society, the crew for the novel adaptation was formally established.
Kang Ruicheng announced that the filming location would be Taoran City, the birthplace of the original novel, and that he had booked hotels for the main creators to facilitate their work. He also shared the good news that Li Meng had agreed to play the female lead and would arrive the next day. When asked, Su Jianan stated her preference to stay home, wanting to spend more time with Lu Boyan, and assured everyone it wouldn't hinder her work.
Over the following days, everyone was full of energy, working diligently to produce the series. Su Jianan and Kang Ruicheng intensely collaborated on the script, discussing modifications to characters and story flow to make the narrative clearer and more engaging. While they were deeply immersed in their creative work, others in the literary society were busy with preparations, but Lu Boyan was present yet seemed to have nothing to do, appearing superfluous to their work.
One evening, after working late, Su Jianan encountered Han Ruoxi, who was struggling with her lines. Han Ruoxi suggested they go to Kang Ruicheng's room to discuss the script, as the director was busy with Li Meng. In Kang Ruicheng's room, they continued their discussion, refining character development. Eventually, Su Jianan fell asleep from exhaustion. Han Ruoxi and the actor Fengfeng quietly left, leaving her to rest.
Su Jianan woke up the next morning on the sofa, covered by Kang Ruicheng's jacket. He had prepared breakfast for her, but she declined his offer to stay at the hotel, insisting she needed to leave for a scene survey with Director Guo.
As Su Jianan hurried out of Kang Ruicheng's room, she was seen by crew members, who immediately began to speculate, questioning why she was leaving his room so early in the morning and suggesting she had spent the entire night there. The rumors quickly spread, noting that this wasn't the first time such gossip had surfaced about Su Jianan and Kang Ruicheng, despite news reports of her good relationship with Lu Boyan.
When Lu Boyan arrived at the crew's hotel to find Su Jianan, he overheard the discussions among the staff and, without going upstairs, left. That night, Su Jianan returned to the Lu family villa, where Lu Boyan confronted her. He demanded to know where she had slept, pressing her on whether she had been alone or with Kang Ruicheng in his room all night.
Su Jianan explained that Han Ruoxi and Fengfeng had also been present for the script reading, but Lu Boyan accused her of falling in love with Kang Ruicheng. He brought up his past offers to invest in her novel's adaptation, which she had rejected, wanting to rely on herself.
Yet, he pointed out, when Kang Ruicheng appeared, she readily accepted his ideas, even when they contradicted Lu Boyan's suggestions, such as retaining certain novel content or casting Luo Xiaoxi instead of Han Ruoxi. Lu Boyan felt that Kang Ruicheng held a special significance to her. Su Jianan tried to clarify that their actions were solely for the betterment of the film, but Lu Boyan countered that it seemed designed to bring them closer.
He expressed his humiliation as the president of Lu Group, dealing with the spread of scandals. He warned her to stay away from Kang Ruicheng, asserting that he, Lu Boyan, would support her dreams. Su Jianan was distraught, asking if he truly saw her in such a light. She highlighted the immense effort she had poured into the film, which he seemed to disregard, focusing only on her proximity to other men.
Lu Boyan then brought up the previous incident where he had cooked a table full of food waiting for her, only for her not to show up, having been with Kang Ruicheng instead. Su Jianan confirmed she was with Kang Ruicheng, stating he understood her work and ideas better, unlike Lu Boyan, who she felt only demanded others live according to his ways. Lu Boyan then gave her an ultimatum: either Kang Ruicheng withdrew from the project, or she did.
Su Jianan refused to choose, declaring she didn't need his arrangements. Lu Boyan, in turn, declared that he would withdraw. This intense argument led them to decide on divorce, with Lu Boyan giving her their original contract and Su Jianan returning his initial ring. Following the heated argument, Lu Boyan instructed an employee to inform Su Jianan that he was completely pulling out of the project and would no longer interfere with her and Kang Ruicheng.
Su Jianan subsequently moved into the crew's hotel, apologizing to Kang Ruicheng as Lu's withdrawal of capital had left the production facing a massive funding deficit. When Su Jianan explained the situation to Kang Ruicheng, he acknowledged the significant funding deficit and immediately took steps to address it, instructing his subordinate to find a solution. Meanwhile, Han Ruoxi appeared and engaged Kang Ruicheng in a conversation.
She questioned his immediate willingness to solve the crew's crisis, pointing out that things easily obtained are often not cherished. She advised him to wait until Su Jianan was at her most desperate and helpless before stepping in, becoming her "lifesaver." Only then, Han Ruoxi suggested, would Su Jianan cling to him without hesitation, otherwise he risked remaining a "spare tire."
Han Ruoxi also noted that with Lu Boyan out of the project and Su Jianan having moved out of the Lu family home, there was no one left to hinder Kang Ruicheng's pursuit of Su Jianan. Han Ruoxi then sought out Lu Boyan, expressing regret for past mistakes and requesting another chance to return to Lu's Media.
She claimed Kang Ruicheng had never genuinely intended to sign her, but rather sought to obtain Su Jianan, and that Su Jianan and Kang Ruicheng had conspired to make things difficult for her, even changing her previously assigned role. She emphasized her increased value and marketability, having numerous endorsement deals and successful box office numbers, making her a valuable asset. Lu Boyan, acknowledging her commercial worth, directed her to sign a new contract with Yuechuan.
Feeling disheartened, Su Jianan stood by a bridge when Kang Ruicheng approached her. He reassured her that the project was not without hope, vowing to do everything in his power, even offending Lu Boyan, to ensure its smooth progress because it was her dream. Su Jianan questioned why he would go to such lengths.
Kang Ruicheng then recounted meeting a girl three years prior—a stranger who wore a mask but helped him retrieve a crucial contract when his company was just starting. Though he didn't even know her name or appearance at the time, her small act of kindness was etched in his memory. He later learned her name was Su Jianan. He confessed his love for her, asking if they could be together and if he could help her fulfill her dream.
Su Jianan, though grateful, apologized and declined, stating she couldn't accept, and emphasizing she didn't want to deceive him to save the project. Later, reflecting on her broken marriage, Su Jianan's father, Su Hongyuan, came to visit her. Overwhelmed with emotion, Su Jianan tearfully confessed her despair, having lost her love, friends, and career. Her father comforted her, telling her that life inevitably brings setbacks and misunderstandings.
He shared his own past struggles with stubbornness and alienating others, realizing that true happiness comes from balancing career, family, and friendships. Su Jianan expressed gratitude for his wisdom, admitting she had previously misunderstood him. Su Hongyuan then offered to invest in her film, providing much-needed "timely help." However, he stipulated a condition: her film must feature at least five product placements for his company's "Su's Beauty" underwear.
Su Jianan accepted, and her father affirmed he would always be her steadfast support. With renewed resolve, Su Jianan went to reconcile with Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai. Luo Xiaoxi initially refused to open the door, despite Jiang Shaokai's attempts to mediate and give Su Jianan a chance to explain. Su Jianan tried to apologize through the door, but Luo Xiaoxi remained defiant, questioning her sincerity.
After some heated exchanges, Su Jianan produced a spare key to their home and entered. She earnestly apologized, acknowledging her recent work-focused state and clarifying that her past words were not her true intention. She reminded Luo Xiaoxi of their shared history, how Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai had supported and encouraged her during the initial stages of writing her novel, and how their companionship was vital to the creation of the work.
Su Jianan declared Luo Xiaoxi her best friend and revealed that she had always reserved the role of the heroine's best friend for her, believing Luo Xiaoxi was the perfect fit and the inspiration for the character. She sincerely hoped they could complete the project together. Luo Xiaoxi then admitted that her concern was never about the lead roles, but about their friendship. Su Jianan asked for forgiveness, which Luo Xiaoxi readily granted, acknowledging her own straightforward nature.
Su Jianan affectionately reiterated that Luo Xiaoxi would always be the best "Xiao Xi" in her heart. With Su Hongyuan's investment, the project was back on track. Su Jianan announced that Luo Xiaoxi would take on the role of Female No. 2, and Jiang Shaokai would return to manage commercial sponsorships. Everyone expressed their excitement for the project to commence. Meanwhile, Han Ruoxi observed these developments, expressing surprise that Su Hongyuan had become involved, and acknowledging Su Jianan's renewed determination.
She then approached Kang Ruicheng, pointing out that despite Su Jianan and Lu Boyan's separation, Lu Boyan still held a place in Su Jianan's heart. Han Ruoxi urged Kang Ruicheng to further fuel the emotional rift between Su Jianan and Lu Boyan, believing this was the only way to completely drive Lu Boyan out of Su Jianan's heart and finally win her for himself.
Episode 23 Recap
Su Jianan finished writing her script but felt no joy, finding the world gloomy without Lu Boyan by her side. She remembered his past declarations of love, such as taking her to his alma mater to confess his feelings, playfully keeping her from leaving on their wedding day, and staying by her side all night when she had a stomachache. These memories made her realize she had lost him by clinging to seemingly important things.
She resolved to win him back. Hesitantly, she considered calling Lu Boyan. At that moment, a news report on a nearby TV announced that Lu Boyan and Su Jianan were facing a marriage crisis. It showed Han Ruoxi, who had recently returned to Lu's Media, attending a diamond ring endorsement event with Lu Boyan. The media dubbed them a "Golden Couple," and on screen, Lu Boyan placed a ring on Han Ruoxi's finger, which was followed by her kissing him.
As the crowd cheered, Su Jianan's hand, poised to dial, froze. Su Jianan noticed that "OTE star" had been absent from her "Monster Alliance" fan group chat recently. She checked his profile and saw he had never missed a daily check-in. This sparked a memory: in school, when a magazine published her work, Lu Boyan had found it and mocked her pen name, "Little Monster," jokingly adding that if she was a "Monster," he must be "Altman."
Now, the name "OTE star" seemed to align with reality. She recalled how he had strongly opposed changing her book's title in their chat, and his cartoon "Altman" avatar matched a design Lu Boyan once wore. Overwhelmed with emotion, tears streamed down her face as she realized "OTE star" had been Lu Boyan all along, always by her side. Meanwhile, members of the film crew began to leave, and even Director Guo decided to depart.
Luo Xiaoxi heard rumors from staff that Lu Boyan had threatened to blacklist anyone who worked on the production. Su Jianan refused to believe Lu Boyan would do such a despicable thing, feeling he wouldn't stoop so low without a deep-seated hatred. Suspecting foul play, Su Jianan asked Luo Xiaoxi for help, theorizing that someone was deliberately smearing Lu Boyan.
As Director Guo was about to leave his hotel, he was intercepted by a minivan, blindfolded, and taken to Luo Xiaoxi's father. Under duress, Director Guo revealed the truth: Kang Ruicheng had orchestrated the rumors about Lu Boyan blacklisting the crew. Kang's plan was to approach Su Jianan in her most vulnerable state and offer to solve her crisis, hoping to earn her gratitude and eventually win her affection.
When Su Jianan learned of Kang Ruicheng's manipulation, she realized he had intentionally approached her, posing as a gentleman while plotting to break her and Lu Boyan apart. Ashamed that she had fallen for his scheme, her immediate priority became winning Lu Boyan back. She went to Lu Boyan's company but was denied entry by security, who explained that Lu Boyan had no available appointments for the coming week and would not see her.
While she struggled to find a way to meet him, Kang Ruicheng approached her, beaming, with good news: he had persuaded the main crew members to return, ensuring the film could start as planned. He expected her joy and gratitude, but Su Jianan only offered a brief thank you, her mind preoccupied with how to see Lu Boyan. That evening, in the "Monster Alliance" group, "OTE star" was removed as administrator and replaced by a new one, "Little Dragon God."
The new administrator announced that the film adaptation had been renamed "Fall in Love with You During the Contract Period" and would begin filming the next day. A fan trip to the set was planned to support "Little Monster." Immediately after, "OTE star" was removed from the group chat. At the movie's launch ceremony, Su Jianan was surrounded by media and fans. After the official Q&A, she publicly called out "OTE star," knowing he was in the crowd.
She then dialed Lu Boyan's number, and the ringing phone drew everyone's attention to him. Su Jianan walked towards him, confessing her deep love and admitting how much she needed him. She suggested they end their childish dispute and reconcile. Amidst the crowd's cheers, Su Jianan kissed Lu Boyan. Behind the stage, a defeated Han Ruoxi and Kang Ruicheng, holding flowers, left the event. Kang Ruicheng departed Taoran City, carrying his regrets and unrequited love for Su Jianan.
Han Ruoxi was heartbroken, realizing her efforts had only pushed Lu Boyan further away. Seeing her despair, Shen Yuechuan confronted her, pointing out that her obsession with Lu Boyan had blinded her to his own constant support. He reminded her that he had always been there, helping her from her days as a bullied extra to becoming a lead actress.
He urged her to release her obsession, promising to wait for the kind and optimistic Han Ruoxi to return and assuring her that she was not alone, as he would always be by her side.
Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
Following their reconciliation, Lu Boyan and Su Jianan's parents expressed immense relief and joy. To celebrate their renewed bond, the couple decided to hold another wedding—a grand "century wedding" that would show the world the strength of their relationship. However, with Su Jianan still filming her movie adaptation and Lu Boyan's demanding schedule, they decided to postpone the event. Despite the delay, Lu Boyan grew impatient.
He frequently called Su Jianan, affectionately calling her his "Big Radish," and told her how much he missed her. Su Jianan assured him she missed him every moment and would return as soon as her scenes were finished. Eager for her to come home, Lu Boyan had already selected wedding dresses and cleared his schedule for an entire month in anticipation. Su Jianan playfully told him to wait for her obediently. Eventually, Lu Boyan could wait no longer.
He instructed Shen Yuechuan to prepare the car to drive to the film set, dismissing Shen Yuechuan's advice that Su Jianan would be home in a few days anyway. During the journey, the car had to make a sudden emergency stop to avoid a playful child on the road, causing Lu Boyan to hit his head. When he regained consciousness, he had lost his memory of the past few months. Meanwhile, Su Jianan's filming finally wrapped up.
Declining an invitation to the wrap party, her only thought was to return home to Lu Boyan. Upon arriving, she was met by the butler, Xu Bo, who informed her that Lu Boyan had suffered a head injury and developed amnesia. Finding the situation reminiscent of a "third-rate novel," Su Jianan believed Lu Boyan was faking it.
She confronted him, and he acted just as he had when they first lived together, scolding her for returning late and demanding she follow the "Lu family rules." He accused her of breaking their contract by being overly flirtatious with men at a bar, an incident where she had gone for writing inspiration. Recognizing this as a re-enactment of their early days, Su Jianan decided to play along, determined to see how long he could maintain the charade.
Continuing the act, Su Jianan went to Lu Boyan’s room, only to be sternly told off for entering without permission. When she pointed out that her belongings were gone and questioned how long he planned to keep up the pretense, he feigned ignorance and said he just wanted to rest. Exasperated, Su Jianan began loudly "writing" a dramatic scene outside his door, mimicking the very behavior he had once criticized.
Annoyed by the noise, Lu Boyan eventually emerged, carried her back to her room, and tried to quiet her by offering her a sleep mask. Su Jianan clung to him, playfully claiming her hands were "stuck with glue" and that as an "old married couple," they should sleep together. The next morning, waking up in his bed, she continued to tease him, challenging their "no physical contact" rule and even suggesting a striptease.
Overwhelmed, Lu Boyan fled, an act so out of character it shocked Xu Bo. Su Jianan confessed her growing unease to her friends Luo Xiaoxi and Jiang Shaokai, admitting she now wondered if Lu Boyan's amnesia was real. Luo Xiaoxi speculated that Lu Boyan was feeling neglected and simply trying to get her attention. She suggested they test him by re-enacting a past event: the time Lu Boyan had misunderstood her discussing a script with Jiang Shaokai.
Jiang Shaokai was reluctant, fearing Lu Boyan's retaliation, but was outvoted. Luo Xiaoxi had Su Jianan and Jiang Shaokai pose intimately for a photo, which Su Jianan then posted online. Lu Boyan's immediate "like" confirmed he was following the old pattern. Moments later, he arrived, demanding Su Jianan return home. Jiang Shaokai and Luo Xiaoxi feigned surprise at her marriage, dramatically questioning if she had been forced. Asserting his rights as her husband, Lu Boyan dragged Su Jianan away.
In the car, he ordered her to keep her distance from Jiang Shaokai. She replied provocatively by offering him a kiss, declaring she knew he was faking. He reacted with feigned shock, telling her he was disappointed by her casualness. The charade soon ended when a doctor's examination revealed that Lu Boyan had indeed suffered a head injury and was experiencing intermittent amnesia, having lost his memory of the recent months. The news devastated Su Jianan.
Her friends tried to comfort her, with Luo Xiaoxi suggesting she could win him back, like in the movie "100th First Love". Lu Boyan's mother also expressed her sorrow, admitting that even the best doctors had been unable to help and that he would have to recover on his own. She reassured Su Jianan that they were still a family, no matter what. Undeterred, Su Jianan began caring for Lu Boyan.
She brought him lunch at his office, where he was meeting with Yunyun, a talented new artist. Su Jianan politely interrupted to give Lu Boyan porridge, reminding him to eat on time for his stomach's sake. Later, she planned a family dinner, but Shen Yuechuan informed her that Yunyun had invited Lu Boyan to the seaside plaza and he wouldn't be coming home. Without hesitation, Su Jianan rushed to the plaza. There, she found an elaborately staged performance.
Dancers dressed as Ultraman and a little monster re-enacted cherished moments from her and Lu Boyan's past: their squabbles over the remote, their dance at the Su family's anniversary gala, her providing him light during an escape room game, his comforting her through period cramps, him giving her candy with a kiss after she took bitter medicine, and their game of hide-and-seek to overcome her fear of the dark.
As the performance concluded, Lu Boyan appeared amidst a sea of flowers and lights, surrounded by their friends and family. He revealed that the amnesia had been an act—an elaborate rehearsal for his proposal, explaining that a complete wedding must begin with one. Standing in a heart-shaped display of candles, Su Jianan confessed she had loved him since junior high. Lu Boyan then knelt, presented a sparkling ring, and asked her to marry him.
With tears of joy, Su Jianan accepted, and they shared a sweet kiss under the stars, showered with the blessings of their loved ones. In the happy days that followed, various storylines resolved. Xuanxuan, a promising author, presented her work to President Du. Han Ruoxi decided to leave the company, and Shen Yuechuan, inspired by her courage to start anew, resigned to accompany her to the US. At an awards ceremony, Luo Xiaoxi won "Best Comedy Newcomer."
Watching from home, Jiang Shaokai proudly declared, "That's my wife!" In her speech, Luo Xiaoxi tearfully thanked Jiang Shaokai, her "boyfriend and future husband," for his unwavering support. Meanwhile, their parents joyfully discussed future grandchildren. The story concluded with Su Jianan playfully reading from their new "contract," which included rules that Lu Boyan must report everything to her, be available on demand, and tell her "I love you" every day. When asked about the contract's term, they both declared in unison: "A lifetime."
