After hearing Han Yansheng's account, Jian Dan understood why he had been so angry at the New Year's party and why he had a fear of going into the water. However, this version of events was different from what Gu Entong had told her. Han Yansheng revealed that the man in the photo she didn't recognize was his best friend, Nan Yuan, who had passed away.
Nan Yuan and Han Yansheng grew up together, but Nan Yuan tragically drowned because of an incident involving Han Yansheng. Han Yansheng recounted a diving trip where, despite rough waves, he insisted on going. Nan Yuan and Gu Entong accompanied him. Underwater, Nan Yuan's air tank and buoyancy vest failed. Han Yansheng tried to reach him but found his own tank was also malfunctioning.
He struggled to pull Nan Yuan to the surface, but Han Yansheng himself began to lose consciousness from lack of oxygen. Gu Entong then gave him her spare regulator, allowing him to regain his senses, but by then, he could only watch helplessly as Nan Yuan's body sank and disappeared. Han Yansheng apologized for his outburst at the party, admitting his emotions were raw after seeing the video.
Jian Dan, hearing the full story, apologized for not knowing and acknowledged that the incident wasn't Han Yansheng's fault, but she still felt puzzled that Gu Entong's story had been so different. Jian Dan received her salary and wanted to treat Han Yansheng to barbecue. She had been waiting for him, but he was late because he was caught up after a volunteer activity, with Gu Entong and other teammates keeping him busy drinking.
Jian Dan, after waiting a long time, left the restaurant without eating. Han Yansheng then found her, and they decided to eat at home. As they walked, the first snow of the year began to fall. Jian Dan happily spun around in the snow, and Han Yansheng appeared behind her. He had rushed to find her because he had seen a phrase: 'If you watch the first snow with your girlfriend, you can be together forever.'
They discussed eating at home. Han Yansheng suggested having some alcohol, and Jian Dan, seeing a social media post from Mi Fen with the same phrase, suddenly felt awkward, wondering if Han Yansheng had misunderstood her invitation to barbecue. Han Yansheng went to get some drinks, and as they talked and drank, they both became quite tipsy.
The next morning, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen, returning from a sketching trip, arrived at Jian Dan's place and knocked for a long time. Jian Dan, roused by the knocking, discovered she and Han Yansheng had fallen asleep on the sofa, tangled together. Peeking through the peephole, she saw Mi Fen and Yuan Sen and quickly tried to wake Han Yansheng, urging him to hide in the bathroom.
She worried about how it would look for them to be found alone together in the morning. Han Yansheng, however, saw no reason to hide, claiming he had done nothing wrong. As they bickered, Yuan Sen used a spare key hidden outside to open the door, explaining that he and Han Yansheng used to frequent the place. Mi Fen walked in, catching Jian Dan and Han Yansheng in a compromising position on the sofa.
Jian Dan tried to explain that it wasn't what it looked like and that it was an exception because they were just drunk, but Han Yansheng's blunt affirmation of "What you saw is what happened" only made things worse. To diffuse the situation, Jian Dan quickly offered to cook breakfast for Mi Fen and Yuan Sen. Later, Mi Fen expressed concern, telling Jian Dan that Gu Entong's actions seemed intentional and that Jian Dan should be wary of her.
She pointed out that Gu Entong had purposely given Jian Dan misleading information about Nan Yuan and had prepared those diving goggles and video for Han Yansheng at the New Year's party, despite knowing his trauma. Gu Entong contacted the Qingzhou Volunteer Association, proposing an exchange event and then informed Han Yansheng after the fact. Han Yansheng had to agree to lead the team and attend the event, meaning he would be away for the entire week.
Before leaving, he specifically asked Monkey to check in on Jian Dan. Monkey was initially reluctant to go to Jiang Zhishan's place, as Jiang Zhishan was Han Yansheng's aunt and his "childhood terror." However, Han Yansheng assured him that his aunt was overseas and wouldn't be back anytime soon, and even offered a game skin as a bribe. Monkey then agreed to visit Jian Dan. Monkey arrived at Jiang Zhishan's house, where Jian Dan was preparing dinner.
He accepted the food eagerly, explaining that Han Yansheng was worried about her and had asked him to check in, even though Han Yansheng and Gu Entong were already on their way to Qingzhou for the volunteer event. Monkey then started complaining about Jiang Zhishan, calling her his "childhood nightmare" and stating she couldn't even get married. To his horror, Jiang Zhishan suddenly appeared behind him, just back from abroad.
She was angry to find someone living in her house without permission and questioned Jian Dan and Han Yansheng's relationship. Jian Dan clarified that they were just ordinary friends. Jiang Zhishan told Jian Dan to pack up and leave immediately, which Jian Dan agreed to do. Monkey, terrified, quickly made his escape. Han Yansheng was on the bus to Qingzhou when he received a phone call from the village chief, who couldn't reach Jian Dan.
The chief informed him that Jian Dan's grandma had collapsed and been admitted to the Central Hospital. Han Yansheng immediately told the driver to stop, instructing Gu Entong to take charge of the volunteer event, given her experience. He then hailed a taxi to the hospital. He tried calling Jian Dan, but her phone was off. He called Monkey, who started explaining about Jiang Zhishan's unexpected return and his fright, then the call cut off.
Han Yansheng then called Jiang Zhishan, who informed him that Jian Dan had left her place. Han Yansheng worried his aunt was angry about Jian Dan staying there but prioritized getting to the hospital. Meanwhile, Jian Dan was waiting for a bus, her phone dead. She borrowed a power bank from a nearby girl. As soon as her phone powered on, she saw Han Yansheng's message about her grandma. She quickly rushed to the hospital.
Upon arrival, Han Yansheng reassured her that the doctor said her grandma had arrived in time and was out of danger. After the surgery, the doctor confirmed it was successful and that Grandma would only need a few days of observation before discharge. A nurse requested payment for the hospital bill. Han Yansheng volunteered to pay, telling Jian Dan to stay with her grandma, as she would want to see Jian Dan first when she woke up.
Another patient remarked on how thoughtful Jian Dan's "boyfriend" was, which Jian Dan quickly denied. Later, Jian Dan transferred the money for the medical expenses back to Han Yansheng, also returning the excess funds he had given her for cleaning the house, as the owner had returned. Grandma soon woke up, and Jian Dan embraced her tearfully.
Grandma expressed guilt, noting that it was New Year's Eve, and Jian Dan was spending it in the hospital with her instead of watching fireworks in Shenmu Village. Jian Dan reassured her that being with her was all that mattered. After Grandma fell asleep, Han Yansheng sent a text message asking Jian Dan to step outside. He then took her to a spot where they could watch the New Year's fireworks together.
They wished each other a Happy Chinese New Year, sharing a beautiful moment. Sometime later, Jiang Zhishan moved into Jian Dan's university dorm. Jian Dan was unaware of her identity as Han Yansheng's aunt. The dorm lady informed Jian Dan and Mi Fen that a new student, a fashion design major, an international student one year older than them, would be moving into their empty bed and asked them to tidy it.
Mi Fen promptly left to have dinner with Yuan Sen, leaving Jian Dan to clean the bed alone. Han Yansheng arrived with Jiang Zhishan's luggage. Jiang Zhishan questioned why Han Yansheng was helping instead of Monkey, to which Han Yansheng merely replied that she should know the reason. Jiang Zhishan asked Han Yansheng to handle her luggage while she went to register. As Jian Dan was in the shower, she heard footsteps, mistook Jiang Zhishan for Mi Fen, and called out, asking her to hand her a towel.
