Burning paper offerings, he murmured that his actions were forced upon him and he could only hope to be reunited with Bingyu as father and daughter in another life. As he mourned, Shu Jingrong appeared, dressed in Bingyu's wedding gown. Xiao Yiqing then arrived and revealed that Bingyu had been watching from the crowd. Xie Lizhou, leaning on the coffin, offered a bitter smile.

He lamented that this was not his choice, but his daughter's abduction by bandits had ruined her reputation, making it impossible for her to return home. Shu Jingrong challenged him, asking if his family's reputation was more important than his daughter's life, to which Xiao Yiqing added that Bingyu had been so distraught she attempted suicide with a hairpin, believing her father valued reputation over her.

Xie Lizhou reiterated that Bingyu could never return home now that everyone believed she had died before the bandits. Xiao Yiqing presented a plan to ensure Bingyu a peaceful future by changing her name, never returning to the Xie family, and thus preserving their reputation. Overjoyed, Xie Lizhou thanked him profusely and pledged his allegiance to Snow Tower.

Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Yiqing requested to secretly embed Snow Tower personnel within the escort team for the Crown Prince of King Zhen Nan, explaining that securing the Prince's safety was crucial to prevent imperial court chaos, especially since the task entrusted to them by Xie Lizhou was related to this matter. Xie Lizhou readily agreed, stating that he also wished for the Prince's safety, as otherwise, no one could bear the responsibility.

As Xiao Yiqing and Shu Jingrong departed, Shu Jingrong saw children lighting sky lanterns, which triggered painful childhood memories. Distraught, she quickly excused herself from Xiao Yiqing and left. Meanwhile, Mai Qiancheng was secretly discussing with his subordinate, who reported that while they had successfully captured Lady Xie, Snow Tower had interfered. Mai Qiancheng expressed frustration that Xiao Yiqing, despite his frail health, was so meddlesome.

He concluded that since Xiao Shishui had brought his son back to lead Snow Tower, he would no longer hold back and would deal with Xiao Yiqing mercilessly. Later, Xie Bingyu shed tears in secret, receiving comfort from Zi Mo. Bingyu questioned Zi Mo's help, recalling how her own mother, consumed by jealousy, had sold Zi Mo to a brothel despite Zi Mo once being her father's favorite concubine.

Zi Mo revealed that she had only married Xie Lizhou out of desperation to save her wrongfully imprisoned father, enduring much suffering in the Xie household. She recounted how everyone there had treated her with disdain, making her feel like a sword was stabbing her heart daily. However, Bingyu was the only one who treated her with kindness, a warmth that had been etched into Zi Mo's heart during her darkest times, leading her to remember Bingyu's goodness.

Zi Mo, after being sold to the brothel and left destitute, eventually found her way to Snow Tower and became a guardian, thanks to Xiao Yiqing. She shared with Bingyu that the daughter of the Xie family was now considered dead, but Bingyu herself had survived and should focus on living well rather than family reputation. Elsewhere, Qing Lan continued to escort the Crown Prince.

Yeh Huo, impressed by the efficacy of Central Plain medicine, expressed a desire to learn more to help her people in Nanjiang. Qing Lan promised to give her medical books, much to Yeh Huo's delight. Yeh Huo noted the King's trust in Qing Lan, given the minimal trusted followers accompanying the Prince.

Qing Lan clarified that the Prince relied on him to counter Moon Sect's voodoo, as Qing Lan, as the village leader's son, possessed the knowledge of expelling voodoo, and his father owed a debt to King Zhen Nan's Queen Consort. Qing Lan affirmed his commitment to protect the Prince, even at the cost of his life, and informed Yeh Huo that they would reach Luoyang in two days.

Upon returning to Snow Tower, Xiao Yiqing spoke with Nan Chu, revealing he had recognized Shu Jingrong but chose not to address it. He believed that after ten years, any unbearable feelings for her had likely subsided, and her decision to stay at Sand Valley was probably for the best. Nan Chu updated him on the investigation into a traitor within Snow Tower, promising swift results. Suddenly, Chi Xiaotai, Xue Gu's spirited daughter, burst in, demanding to join Snow Tower.

She boldly declared she had "taken ten moves" from Xiao Yiqing, thus earning her place to serve the tower, specifically asking to be part of the Crown Prince's escort. Despite Nan Chu's exasperation and warnings of extreme danger, Xiao Yiqing, unable to deter her playful persistence, reluctantly permitted her to join, with Chi Xiaotai assuring them she would prioritize her own safety. Shu Jingrong later visited her parents' grave, reflecting on her past.

She remembered her mother's love for flowers and the bittersweet mix of fear and happiness in their lives. She mused that if Snow Tower had not intervened, perhaps her family would not have been torn apart. However, meeting someone recently had helped her resentment fade, realizing that others carried more unease than her. She promised her parents, who had protected her with their lives, that she would cherish her own and never forget their last words.

She sat by a lake, lost in thought, until Xiao Yiqing approached, draped a cloak over her shoulders, and left as silently as he arrived. Xiao Yiqing uncovered that Mai Qiancheng had poisoned Xiao Shishui, with a kitchen disciple and Guardian Tang being involved. He learned that Mai Qiancheng had gained significant power due to Xiao Shishui's long-standing illness and disengagement from Snow Tower affairs. When Mai Qiancheng came to visit Xiao Shishui, Xiao Yiqing's attitude was cold.

As Mai Qiancheng criticized Xiao Yiqing's frail health and hinted at Snow Tower's impending decline, Xiao Yiqing sharply retorted that Snow Tower's affairs were internal and not for outsiders to meddle with. Despite Xiao Shishui's attempt to make him apologize, Xiao Yiqing, after initially offering a veiled apology for past negligence, announced his return as Young Tower Master, stating he would now shoulder his father's burdens, implying Mai Qiancheng's role would be diminished.

Mai Qiancheng, though attempting to maintain his influence, eventually conceded when Xiao Yiqing brought up the Xie family incident and the Crown Prince's assassination attempt, subtly suggesting his knowledge of Mai Qiancheng's clandestine activities. Xiao Yiqing then "requested" that Mai Qiancheng lend him men to join Xie Lizhou in escorting the Crown Prince, to which Mai Qiancheng grudgingly agreed. After the encounter, Mai Qiancheng recognized Xiao Yiqing as a formidable problem.

Xiao Yiqing, speaking with his father, questioned why Xiao Shishui allowed Mai Qiancheng to act so recklessly. Xiao Shishui, still consumed by the pain of losing his beloved wife years ago, explained that he founded Snow Tower to eliminate Moon Sect, and now, with the Tower's stability at risk, Mai Qiancheng's forces were crucial. He advised Xiao Yiqing to control Mai Qiancheng to utilize his power.

However, Xiao Yiqing declared his intention to destroy Mai Qiancheng and all his associated forces, starting by diminishing his influence. During this conversation, Xiao Shishui's old illness, exacerbated by his decade-old battle with Hua Lian and years of sorrow, flared up severely, causing him to spit blood. Doctor Mo confirmed to a worried Xiao Yiqing that Xiao Shishui was critically ill and had little time left.

Doctor Mo also implored Xiao Yiqing to never remove the Moon Spirit, as it was crucial for suppressing the cold in his body, a condition that Master Xue Gu had used half his power to keep at bay. Xiao Yiqing, with a heavy heart, asked Doctor Mo what he would do if he were in his position.
