General's Lady Episode 6 Recap
> General's Lady Recap
After nearly drowning, Shen Jin regained consciousness to find Chu Xiuming giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. She immediately accused him of taking advantage of her, pointing out that since he had already issued a divorce letter that no one else knew about, she had no recourse. She threatened to expose his duplicitous nature to the entire military camp. Chu Xiuming urged her to be more reserved, but she retorted that his actions had left her homeless.
Returning to her parents' home would sadden her mother, disappoint her father, and invite mockery from her sisters. She lamented that he, the one person she could rely on, constantly bullied her and demanded a reason for the divorce. Chu Xiuming stated the divorce was final but, seeing her distress, offered to escort her home and take full responsibility.
Shen Jin accepted his pledge, and as it was getting dark, she claimed she was too weak to walk and asked him to carry her back to the camp. The next morning, Shen Jin awoke in Chu Xiuming's tent. He brought her a hangover soup he had personally prepared, assuring her no one knew.
After he left for the fields, she discovered her clothes had been changed, causing a mix of embarrassment and secret delight, which she took as a sign of his hidden affection. Meanwhile, at the mansion, Meaty learned from Mammy Qingqiu that it was Chu Xiuming's birthday. Eager to see her mistress, Meaty volunteered to deliver birthday noodles and a cartload of relief supplies, including steamed buns, a fur coat, and medicine, from the concerned household staff.
A young maid, Xiao Cong, begged to go along but Meaty sent her back, promising to take good care of Shen Jin. Upon Meaty's arrival, Shen Jin learned it was Chu Xiuming's birthday. Convinced that he was simply too proud to express his feelings, she decided to create an opportunity for him.
She first approached Leopard Head to borrow munitions for a grand fireworks display, but he firmly refused, explaining that the private use of imperial munitions was a capital offense. Undeterred, Shen Jin asked a Vice General for help organizing a surprise banquet. He also declined, citing the same concerns about the munitions and a lack of resources, but noted that her presence was the best gift the General could receive.
This sparked an idea in Shen Jin: she herself would be the surprise. Shen Jin personally cooked a bowl of longevity noodles and presented them to Chu Xiuming. He took a single bite before coldly telling her to return to the mansion. He stated her presence was a burden, making the all-male soldiers uncomfortable and angry, and that her gender created unfairness in training.
He harshly criticized her "ridiculous" behavior at the lake and her dangerous attempt to acquire munitions, warning that her recklessness would lead to military indiscipline and destroy his credibility as a general. Shen Jin vehemently defended herself, asserting she never used her status, led by example, and only had good intentions for his birthday.
When she pointed out her munitions plot had failed, Chu Xiuming retorted that it was fortunate it did, as it would have brought severe punishment upon everyone. Accusing her of disrupting order without remorse, he dismissed her, claiming she had meant nothing to him since the day she arrived. Heartbroken, Shen Jin called him a "cold-blooded, heartless demon" and declared that she was divorcing him. That night, Shen Jin returned to the mansion and began packing, determined to leave.
Despite the tearful pleas of Meaty and the household staff, she insisted Chu Xiuming truly hated her. The next morning, as she was preparing to depart, Mammy Qingqiu reminded her of a special pillow filled with precious love peas that Chu Xiuming had prepared for her. Shen Jin then abandoned all her other belongings, taking only this pillow as a keepsake before riding away. Meanwhile, back at the camp, a heartbroken Chu Xiuming was left alone in his tent.
He discovered a journal Shen Jin had left behind under the pillow she had been using. As he read her private notes detailing her observations of his lonely life and her secret desire to care for him, he also noticed one of his shirts that she had secretly embroidered with her initial. Overcome with the sudden, profound realization of her deep affection, he was moved to tears.
The next morning, Chu Xiuming was uncharacteristically late for training and appeared listless, concerning his soldiers. At the same time, the Emperor learned that Chu Xiuming had divorced the princess whom he had personally granted in marriage. Fearing a scandal that would damage the royal family's reputation, the Emperor dispatched Xiao Su, Commander of the Imperial Guards, to investigate the matter secretly. Soon after, Chu Xiuming received word that a "supervisor" was being sent to his camp.
He correctly discerned this was a pretext for the Emperor, who distrusted him, to find fault. While acknowledging the supervisor's official rank, he resolved to test their competence. As Chu Xiuming and his soldiers gathered to formally greet the supervisor's carriage, they announced their welcome three times, yet no one emerged. Just as their patience wore thin, Meaty stepped out, followed by Shen Jin, clad in a full suit of armor.
Holding up the imperial edict, she dramatically revealed herself as the newly appointed Supervisor. Stunned, Chu Xiuming and his men knelt in deference as Shen Jin, now in a position of authority, strode past him and into the main tent.
