Fall in Love with a Fox Episode 2 Recap
> Fall in Love with a Fox Recap
After escaping the Mole Gang, Jin Baiwan tells Qu Zheng that she considers him a friend, having been through danger together. Qu Zheng agrees, saying it's an honor to be her friend and they should avoid misunderstandings. A servant arrives, stating that the young master of the house, Yu Chen, wishes to meet with them. Jin Baiwan questions Qu Zheng's presence. As they head to meet Yu Chen, Jin Baiwan and Qu Zheng discuss their suspicions.
They realize that Yu Chen's timing and knowledge of their identities are too coincidental, especially since they never revealed they were from Jin's Escort Agency. They conclude Yu Chen is likely after the sacred book. Qu Zheng suggests they cannot stay, but worries it will be difficult to leave. He promises to protect Jin Baiwan, reminding her he vowed to be her escort.
Jin Baiwan points out he doesn't know martial arts, but he insists he has a way to protect her. Meeting Yu Chen, Qu Zheng states they have pressing matters and must depart. Yu Chen refuses, claiming Miss Jin is too impressed by his "handsome assistance" and must stay, promising her safety within his residence. Jin Baiwan protests, arguing he cannot force someone from Jin's Escort Agency. Yu Chen reiterates that he will ensure her safety if she stays.
He tells Qu Zheng he is free to leave. Surprisingly, Qu Zheng agrees, stating that since Yu Chen is so sincere about wanting Miss Jin to stay, he will comply with all his arrangements. Yu Chen is confused, mentioning the wedding ceremony in the Mole Gang. Qu Zheng explains it was just a tactic to deceive the gang leader, echoing Jin Baiwan's earlier sentiment that it was a measure taken in urgency and not to be dwelled upon.
Jin Baiwan expresses her frustration, feeling betrayed, but Qu Zheng assures her that everything is preordained and she should trust him, adding that she lacks sufficient Jianghu experience and is too trusting. Yu Chen accepts the explanation and says Qu Zheng can leave the next morning. Outside, a servant confirms to Yu Chen that the sacred book was not found in the bag. Yu Chen confirms Qu Zheng will be seen off in the morning.
Jin Baiwan confronts Qu Zheng, demanding an explanation. He tells her it's inappropriate for her to keep bothering him like this in Yu Chen's house. She accuses him of being ungrateful and a traitor. Qu Zheng replies that facing danger, he must prioritize his own safety, and blames her for being too trusting. He repeats that everything is preordained.
A servant arrives to escort Jin Baiwan for a bath and change of clothes, as ordered by Yu Chen, who is listening outside. Jin Baiwan, alone, feels resentful towards Qu Zheng but then considers his words about everything being preordained, wondering if he has another plan. Qu Zheng arrives urgently, whispering to Jin Baiwan that he has thrown the sacred book over Yu's house wall, just as she instructed him to.
They agree to retrieve it after escaping the next day. Yu Chen, hearing this exchange, is fooled, believing the book was thrown out earlier on Jin Baiwan's instructions and orders his men to search for it outside. Using the distraction, Jin Baiwan and Qu Zheng escape to a lantern festival. Amidst the crowd, a masked man, Xu Yifei, intervenes, claiming to protect Jin Baiwan from some rascals and introduces himself. Yu Chen's men arrive, pursuing them.
Yu Chen publicly accuses Jin Baiwan of ruining his reputation and claims she fled because he abandoned her. Jin Baiwan retorts that she cannot marry him because he suffers from a serious venereal disease, which enrages Yu Chen. They chase her, and she finds herself cornered high up. As Yu Chen's men try to get her down, Jin Baiwan reveals the sacred book, threatening to tear it. Yu Chen orders his men to get the book and capture her.
Qu Zheng appears and rescues her. As they flee, Jin Baiwan sees Mole Gang members among their pursuers, realizing they are allied with Yu Chen. Qu Zheng's actions reveal he possesses martial arts skills, causing Jin Baiwan to suspect he knows Kung Fu. Qu Zheng helps Jin Baiwan get away. Outside the city, Qu Zheng's cousin, Su Zhuozhuo, is waiting and joins them.
Jin Baiwan refers to Su Zhuozhuo as her cousin, which Su Zhuozhuo immediately rejects, telling Jin Baiwan not to be disrespectful or flirtatious towards Qu Zheng just because he saved her. Qu Zheng introduces Su Zhuozhuo as his cousin. Jin Baiwan notes that both Yu Chen and the villains from the noodle shop were after her escorted goods. She states her determination to deliver the sacred book despite the increased danger. Qu Zheng asks if she intends to go alone.
Jin Baiwan asks where Qu Zheng and Su Zhuozhuo are headed. Qu Zheng says he is searching for someone who is traveling towards Tongzhou. Jin Baiwan realizes they are going in the same direction and suggests they travel together for mutual support. Qu Zheng agrees. Su Zhuozhuo expresses concern about being an inconvenience to Jin Baiwan, who is a Jianghu person, but Jin Baiwan insists it will be more lively together. They decide to travel as a group.
Taking a break, Jin Baiwan offers to cook, calling herself the "gold medal chef" of Jin's Escort Agency. Qu Zheng praises her cooking, but Su Zhuozhuo finds it too spicy and salty, questioning why Jin Baiwan carries so much chili. Jin Baiwan explains her love for spicy food, noting that Jinbian Town is known for it. Qu Zheng asks if she grew up in Jin's Escort Agency and never left, and she confirms this. Qu Zheng seems thoughtful.
Later, while Jin Baiwan sleeps, Qu Zheng discusses her with Su Zhuozhuo. He mentions the person he is looking for did not like spicy food before, making him unsure if Jin Baiwan is the one. Su Zhuozhuo reports on the two mysterious masked figures at the lantern festival, noting the leader's high martial skill and that she lost them during tracking. She also discovered the sacred book is meant for someone named Qing Songke, whose affiliation is unknown.
Qu Zheng tells her the masked figures will likely reappear if they are after the book and he must quickly determine if Jin Baiwan is the person he seeks. Separately, in the Nonguple Palace, Zi Jing reports to Lord Xueyue that the escort escaped to Yu's house with the sacred book. Lord Xueyue emphasizes finding out if the book is authentic, stating the escort's life is secondary, but stresses maintaining secrecy about Nonguple Palace's involvement.
Later, Zi Jing reports that Jin Baiwan has not been found since escaping the lantern festival and someone is likely helping her hide. She confirms the book is for Qing Songke but is still investigating his identity. Lord Xueyue insists she prioritize finding the escort Jin Baiwan, as she is the priority, and the book must not fall into other hands. Meanwhile, Jin Muqiu travels with Lin Feng.
Lin Feng injures his hand, and Jin Muqiu attempts to help him and find medicine, even involving her father in finding special family medicine. Jin Muqiu overhears Lin Feng speaking to his subordinate about their engagement being for the sake of their families and hoping they can simply be respectful towards each other, lacking any mention of love.
Lin Feng then offers Jin Muqiu fruit, which she learns he also gave to other maids, confirming her suspicion that he lacks romantic feelings for her. Jin Muqiu feels sad, realizing the engagement is merely a family arrangement and he doesn't genuinely love her. Back on the road, Jin Baiwan tries to determine if Qu Zheng knows martial arts by examining his hands under the pretense of reading his palm and later, his bones.
She notices the calluses from playing the "qin". Su Zhuozhuo catches Jin Baiwan examining Qu Zheng and accuses her of being interested in him, mentioning the marriage agreement, to which Jin Muqiu previously confided that Lin Feng doesn't like her. During their journey, Qu Zheng is bitten by a snake while fetching fruit. Jin Baiwan helps him, but Su Zhuozhuo blames Jin Baiwan for the incident, noting how Qu Zheng is kinder to Jin Baiwan than to her.
Qu Zheng defends Jin Baiwan, calling her pure and simple. As Jin Baiwan treats his wound, she apologizes for causing him trouble and admits she lied about her past. She confesses that she was found by her young female master five years ago, has no memory of her life before that, and was instructed not to reveal her history. To show her gratitude for his help, she gives Qu Zheng a pendant she has always worn. Qu Zheng looks stunned upon seeing it.
