Wan Xinxin confirmed her decision to attend the Contemporary Art Academy of France, having already received an invitation letter. She confided in a friend that while the decision was her own, it was also provoked by Hua Ming's ambiguous attitude, which made her feel their relationship lacked clarity and trust. With the recent external pressures and constant arguments involving his ex-wife, Xia Qing, and their child, Ruirui, Wan Xinxin felt their hard-built trust was gone.
She intended to use her departure for France as a test for their relationship. Later, a worried Ruirui expressed to Xia Qing her fear that Hua Ming would stop loving her if he knew the truth about the painting. Xia Qing reassured her, promising that if Ruirui had the courage to admit her mistake, her father wouldn't blame her. Prompted by Xia Qing, Ruirui confessed to Hua Ming that she was the one who took Wan Xinxin's painting.
Hua Ming was shocked and furious, reminding Ruirui of his trust in her. He angrily scolded her for lying and causing Wan Xinxin to miss the art exhibition, telling her that nobody likes a child who lies. Xia Qing intervened, telling Hua Ming to stop lecturing Ruirui, who already knew she was wrong. Hua Ming told Xia Qing not to interrupt his discipline, questioning why Ruirui only acted this way after coming to China, implying the environment played a role.
Xia Qing disagreed, insisting it was about a child lying and lying being wrong. Ruirui, distraught, cried that she took the painting because Wan Xinxin was trying to take her father away, and that Hua Ming now only loved Wan Xinxin and her baby, not her and Xia Qing. Xia Qing comforted Ruirui, assuring her that her parents still loved her and their arguments had nothing to do with her.
Meanwhile, Hua Ming went to Wan Xinxin's gallery but couldn't find her, wondering if she had gone to the airport. Shortly after, Xia Qing called him, frantic, to report that Ruirui was missing. Hua Ming immediately called Wan Xinxin, asking her to help search for their daughter. Wan Xinxin, recalling Ruirui's fondness for a children's clothing store called "Smile Baby," hurried there. Wan Xinxin found Ruirui on the road, holding a doll. Ruirui burst into tears upon seeing her.
Ruirui explained that she had confessed to her dad, leading to a fight between her parents, and now felt her dad no longer loved her and was disappointed. Wan Xinxin comforted her, assuring her that her parents loved her most and that she wasn't a burden. Wan Xinxin then took Ruirui to "Smile Baby" and let her pick out some clothes.
Cheered up, Ruirui asked Wan Xinxin to reconsider going to France, explaining she had seen Hua Ming's sadness and wanted him to be happy. Wan Xinxin promised to think about it and reassured Ruirui that her parents would always be by her side. Wan Xinxin then took Ruirui home. Xia Qing profusely thanked Wan Xinxin for finding her daughter.
Hua Ming apologized to Wan Xinxin for wrongly accusing her about the painting and for his lack of trust, asking for another chance. Wan Xinxin replied that she was tired and needed time, then said "I don't know" when Hua Ming asked if she was still going to France, and left. In a separate development, at Shi Lu's company, Xu Ke presented his "human-centered design" promotion plan, stating his belief that a mother's love is the most selfless.
Despite Shi Lu's dismissive remarks, Xu Ke boldly asserted his rights as a shareholder and stood by his ideas. To Shi Lu's surprise, the entire company applauded Xu Ke's courage in challenging her. Outside the meeting, two female employees gossiped, praising Xu Ke for "defeating" Shi Lu and criticizing Shi Lu's leadership. Shi Lu overheard their remarks and immediately fired them.
Xu Ke confronted Shi Lu, arguing that the company was short-staffed and that tolerance was necessary for common office gossip. Shi Lu, angered by his challenge, reminded him whose company it was and fired him, demanding to return his shares and never see him again, despite Xu Ke's attempts to apologize and promise to work hard to pay back her investment.
Back home, Xia Qing told Hua Ming she was satisfied with Wan Xinxin, acknowledging her reliability and rationality after the incident with Ruirui. Hua Ming dejectedly informed Xia Qing that Wan Xinxin was firm in her decision to go to France. Xia Qing suggested he propose to keep her, even offering to organize a flash mob proposal. She found it ironic that she, an ex-wife, was helping her ex-husband pursue his current girlfriend.
Xia Qing then called Chen Weimin for assistance with the proposal. When Chen Weimin asked who the proposal was for, Xia Qing showed him a photo of Wan Xinxin, and Chen Weimin was visibly shocked upon seeing her face. Later, as Wan Xinxin waited at Seaside Park for Hua Ming, as they had arranged, Xia Qing suddenly appeared, rushing her away. Wan Xinxin, confused, questioned what was happening and where they were going.
Xia Qing lied that Hua Ming had an urgent matter and couldn't make it, then explicitly forbade Wan Xinxin from going to find him. Furious, Wan Xinxin accused Xia Qing of changing her mind and wanting to get back together with Hua Ming. Xia Qing admitted, "Yes, because I'm getting back together with Huaming," adding, "There's no choice. It's fate. You two can't be together." Wan Xinxin tried to call Hua Ming, but Xia Qing snatched her phone away.
Xia Qing then revealed to Ruirui the secret of Hua Ming's past: he had failed to save a university teacher during a medical incident, which devastated him and caused him to switch careers to become a vet. Ruirui was shocked to learn that this university teacher was Wan Xinxin's father. She finally understood Xia Qing's motive—to prevent Hua Ming from being hurt a second time.
Ruirui then agreed to help Xia Qing bring Hua Ming back and convince him to return to America with them, ensuring the secret would be kept. While Hua Ming, unaware of these machinations, was anxious and tried to contact Wan Xinxin, Ruirui and Xia Qing deliberately kept him from leaving the house, urging him to eat with them and persuading him to return to America. Just then, Wan Xinxin unexpectedly arrived at Hua Ming's house.
She walked in to find Hua Ming, Xia Qing, and Ruirui having lunch together. Feeling betrayed by the "surprise" she was supposed to receive and by Ruirui's earlier statement that Hua Ming had promised to go to America, Wan Xinxin was enraged. She slammed the door and stormed out. Hua Ming tried to follow her, but Xia Qing and Ruirui held him back.
In another development, Xu Ke presented his new IT venture to Shi Lu, mentioning he had started it with an American classmate who held several cloud technology patents. Xu Ke was confident their startup would reach 200 million in sales within two years and go public in three. He later discussed Qin Gang's new project with a colleague, expressing concern that Qin Gang's investment would be a total loss. He suggested they have their IT friends discreetly warn Qin Gang about the project's feasibility.
