Unable to figure things out, Qiao Manman sought help from her brother Ji Mo. Ji Mo analyzed that offending either the Western Lin Kingdom or the Lu Zhao Kingdom was unwise. Since the engagement couldn’t be broken, they might as well use the "substitute the beams with rotten timbers" tactic. With no other choice, Qiao Manman took a desperate gamble. She discussed it with Princess A Li Ya and her maid Yue Tao.

There were originally three roads for the bridal escort. Qiao Manman blocked two of them, leaving only one accessible. She then planned to create chaos and switch the two bridal sedan chairs, so that everyone could get what they wanted. A Li Ya had no interest in Fu Chengjin, and since she could marry her beloved, she gladly agreed.

Qiao Manman bribed Pei Er at the designated spot to gather more people disguised as chair bearers to carry an additional sedan. She thought she had everything under control, but an accident happened during the bridal escort. Pei Er intended to stir up trouble, but when he saw the other side had armed guards, he chickened out and quickly backed down.

Qiao Manman and Princess A Li Ya seized the opportunity to get out of the sedan, intending to escape, but Pei Er hadn’t bought them enough time, leaving both Qiao Manman and A Li Ya anxious. Fortunately, Fu Chengjin had anticipated potential issues and immediately sent his guards to protect them. As agreed, Qiao Manman was to protect Princess A Li Ya at all costs to ensure her escape.

Seeing the plan faltering, Qiao Manman urged A Li Ya to run while she herself stayed in the bridal sedan to adapt as needed. Fu Chengjin’s guards were highly efficient, and the bridal sedan was swiftly delivered to the prince’s residence. Earlier, Qiao Manman and Chun Tao had planned to switch clothes in the sedan, with Chun Tao impersonating the princess.

Fu Chengjin would then arrange for Chun Tao to return to the Western Lin Kingdom under the guise of a family visit and never return. However, Qiao Manman was poisoned during the chaos and fell unconscious. Chun Tao didn’t have the chance to change clothes. As a result, Qiao Manman was mistakenly married into Fu Chengjin’s residence as Princess A Li Ya. That day, Qiao Manman wasn’t the only one scheming—the Second Prince was also plotting.

He quickly planned another assassination attempt on Fu Chengjin with his subordinates. During the bridal escort, aside from Pei Er’s group causing chaos, the Second Prince’s assassins also struck. Many were killed, but since Qiao Manman and A Li Ya weren’t in the bridal sedan at the time, they survived. Fu Chengjin, wise and strategic, was infuriated upon hearing that his bridal procession had been attacked. Palace infighting was rampant, and he could easily guess who was behind the sabotage. But to protect his life, he suppressed his anger and pretended to willingly accept his father’s order.
