Following Sister Jiao's guidance, Lin Chen carefully prepared herself, wearing a beautiful outfit and holding a vibrant bouquet of roses. She then posted a vague update on her social media, intending to subtly hint at Lu Xun. Upon seeing the post, Lu Xun nearly called her but managed to restrain himself. Both of them, despite their inner turmoil, maintained a calm demeanor. Later, when Lin Chen met Lu Xun, Sister Jiao prompted her with another plan.
Lin Chen attempted to create physical contact, but her efforts were awkward and unsuccessful. She then asked Lu Xun to be her practice partner for an audition script. During the rehearsal of a scene where one character wishes to be a koala, Lu Xun reads the line, "Then I'll be the tree next to you," but deliberately skips the follow-up: "Because I love you."
Seizing the moment, Sister Jiao claimed an urgent company matter had arisen and maneuvered Lu Xun's assistant into leaving with her, successfully engineering a private moment for the couple. Left alone, Lin Chen playfully called Lu Xun a "tyrant boss," which he embraced, boasting about his looks, wealth (despite a frozen credit card), and domineering nature. Lin Chen countered that he was arrogant, narcissistic, and a coward, giving tyrant bosses new characteristics.
Just as Lin Chen pressed him to read the script line again, Lu Xun received a call. An employee informed him that the dating show had terminated its contract with Liu Yan, and a new artist would join that evening. With this news, Lu Xun abruptly told Lin Chen that something had come up and she could practice by herself, then quickly left. Meanwhile, Liu Yan had ceased all her work and sat alone, looking haggard and drinking heavily.
Her agent advised her to go easy on the alcohol and mentioned the company had offered her a vacation. The agent promised to return after accompanying another artist, Feifei, for filming, also urging Liu Yan to stop taking sleeping pills. As the agent left, Liu Yan muttered to herself about the return of someone from six years ago. When Lu Xun arrived, Liu Yan questioned if he was there to worsen her situation.
Lu Xun asked if she knew where a certain man lived or had any information about him. Liu Yan mentioned the name Zhang Ping and warned Lu Xun to stay away from him, alluding to her own traumatic past. Lu Xun insisted she provide any information she had. Liu Yan then asked about Lin Chen.
Lu Xun confirmed that he knew Lin Chen's true identity and assured Liu Yan he would not reveal her secret, but also firmly stated that Liu Yan would never have another chance to get close to Lin Chen. Separately, Lin Chen received a message from Zheng Ziyan, who soon arrived, affectionately calling her "Little kitty" and revealing he had brought the stray cat they encountered at the barbecue stall. He playfully joked with the cat about needing to be spayed.
Zheng Ziyan then asked Lin Chen if her engagement to Lu Xun was real or just part of a contract. Lin Chen confirmed the engagement but implied it was contract-based, to which Zheng Ziyan reminded her that after her act, she would still need to return to being Lin Chen.
He then showed her a location, declaring it would be her veterinary hospital, part of their long-standing plan for him to open a dental clinic next door and "conquer Jiangbei together." Lin Chen found the idea reliable but worried about the high cost. Finally, Zheng Ziyan, after some hesitation, confessed to Lin Chen that there was someone he had always loved.
