Just then, Liu Yan snatched a list of male guests, declaring her intent to pair with Liu Mo, a popular actor, to create headlines, disregarding the show's rules.
Meng Jiao protested, but Liu Yan dismissed the rules, claiming they were only for "extras" like Lin Wan. Liu Yan then struck Lin Wan across the face. Lin Wan's twin sister, Lin Chen, who had been observing, threatened to expose Liu Yan's two-faced behavior with a video she had recorded. Liu Yan scoffed, boasting about her six million followers compared to Lin Wan's mere sixty thousand, asserting that only popularity mattered.
Liu Yan further warned Lin Wan that she would never allow her to become famous, accusing Lin Wan of stealing her debut role while they were training overseas. Meanwhile, Lu Xun was confident that Lin Wan would not choose to swap partners. He then chillingly revealed that Liu Yan was mentally weak and had committed suicide, denying any direct involvement but implying he had manipulated events to cause her death. Meanwhile, Lu Xun was in a heated board meeting.
His colleagues advised him to issue an announcement claiming he was unaware of Lin Chen's identity and was also a victim, and to shift the blame for Liu Yan's death onto Lin Chen. People claimed Liu Yan spoke the truth but was driven to death by them, demanding justice. Amidst this, Lin Chen and Lu Xun discovered their phone numbers had been leaked. Shortly after, sasaeng fans infiltrated Lu Xun's building, attempting to enter his private elevator.
Jiao Jie confronted them, warning them that damaging property was a criminal offense, while the fans shouted accusations that Lin Chen and Lu Xun were murderers. Jiao Jie and her team managed to deter them, but not without some commotion. Lu Xun's friend arrived, concerned about Lu Xun's well-being and noticing his clothes were damaged from the recent encounter.
He revealed he had brought a birthday cake, hoping a celebration might turn their luck around, even though Lu Xun rarely celebrated his birthday. However, the cake was damaged during the earlier incident. Lin Chen offered to make birthday noodles, and Jiao Jie suggested cooking with ingredients they had at home. When Jiao Jie and Lu Xun's friend proposed going out for supplies while Lin Chen and Lu Xun stayed home for safety, Lin Chen objected. She insisted they shouldn't hide, especially since Lu Xun had done nothing wrong. She took responsibility for impersonating Lin Wan and lying, stating she should bear the consequences, and defiantly declared that the "bad guy" should be the one to be afraid, not them.
She asked Lu Xun for his opinion, and he agreed, saying the birthday plan sounded good and things might not be so bad. Lin Chen and Lu Xun then went to a restaurant. Lin Chen presented Lu Xun with a birthday cake and roses, but the cake had "Happy Death Day" written on it. Lin Chen tried to light the candles and encouraged Lu Xun to make a wish, but no one in the restaurant would lend them a lighter.
When Lu Xun found a bug in their food, he confronted the manager. The manager, however, was openly hostile, stating they were not welcome and telling them to leave, which was met with applause from other patrons. Disheartened, Lu Xun and Lin Chen left the restaurant.
Feeling the day's events were insurmountable, Lu Xun remarked that it seemed impossible to celebrate his birthday without hiccups and suggested calling Meng Jiao for food, conceding that going out had been a bad idea. Despite this, Lin Chen bought a roasted sweet potato from a street vendor and borrowed a lighter to place a small candle on it, wishing Lu Xun a happy birthday.
Lu Xun, looking at Lin Chen, said he had no wish because it had already come true, implying she was his wish. Just then, Lin Chen received a phone call about an unpaid express delivery from Liu Yan. Puzzled, Lin Chen accepted the package, which contained a voice message from Liu Yan.
In the message, Liu Yan confessed that she had always known a girl saved her six years ago but hadn't dared to look up, and now realized that person was Lin Chen. She apologized for her previous cowardice and for trying to forget the past, but revealed "he" (the killer) had reappeared, making her feel it was a punishment for running away.
She stated her plan to take a break abroad and thanked both Lin Chen and Lu Xun for their help. Realizing this was crucial evidence, Lu Xun instructed Lin Chen to wait at the entrance while he retrieved the car so they could immediately go to the police. As Lin Chen was giving directions to the nearest police station over the phone, the killer suddenly appeared, attacking her and telling her she would get hurt for meddling. Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
A stranger, Zhang Ping, bound Lin Chen in an abandoned basement, demanding the crucial evidence Liu Yan had left behind before her death. Zhang Ping didn't expect Liu Yan to leave a "ticking bomb." He pressed Lin Chen to reveal what was inside the evidence, but she cautioned him, urging him not to make further mistakes. Lin Chen then lied, claiming Liu Yan had prepared backups of the evidence years ago.
She questioned Zhang Ping's willingness to gamble with her words and reminded him that if the evidence, which included a recording of how Lu Xun and she had saved Liu Yan and a photograph, were exposed, he would pay for his actions against Liu Yan six years prior and his current deeds. Zhang Ping, angered, retorted with a curse.
Zhang Ping then made a phone call to Lu Xun, threatening Lin Chen's life if Lu Xun did not surrender the backup photo and video evidence. Lu Xun, deeply worried, pleaded with Zhang Ping not to harm Lin Chen. Lu Xun confirmed he had the backup but insisted on Lin Chen's safety. Zhang Ping snatched the device, examined a blank flash drive Lu Xun offered, and realized he had been tricked. Enraged, he attacked them, gravely injuring Lu Xun while protecting Lin Chen. Just then, the police stormed in, announcing their presence.
A defiant Zhang Ping claimed he was no longer the student from six years ago and that he had another backup, but the police apprehended him, informing him he was being taken into custody for investigation. Lin Chen rushed the gravely injured Lu Xun to the hospital. Upon regaining consciousness, Lu Xun playfully teased Lin Chen, asking if she had cried and pretending he had lost his memory, which made her cry again out of relief.
He then reaffirmed the truth of his earlier confession. Lin Chen asked if that meant he had confessed his love first, and he proudly confirmed it, stating his love for her since he was sixteen.
