Chen Luzhou was very embarrassed when Xu Zhi saw his search history. Xu Zhi had done some research and found that she was very interested in landscape design. As a child, she had dreamed of owning a large villa with a garden she could design herself. She also checked her scores and believed she had a good chance of getting into that program.
Chen Luzhou prepared a gift for Xu Zhi—a set of books and drawing tools she might need in the future. Cai Yingying was frustrated about playing poorly in a game and felt like she couldn't do anything right. Zhu Yangqi commented that she didn’t do well in the exams this time and suggested she try retaking them. Cai Yingying dismissed the idea, saying she just wasn’t cut out for studying and retaking the test wouldn’t change that.
Zhu Yangqi then suggested she try applying for an art college entrance exam. Cai Yingying said she was tone-deaf and couldn’t sing or dance, so she didn’t think it was an option. Zhu Yangqi noted how sharp and quick-witted she was when arguing and encouraged her to give it a try. Xu Zhi saw a violin at Chen Luzhou's place and said she didn’t expect him to play it. Xu Zhi shared that her grandfather also played, but terribly.
After her grandmother got sick, he would play for her every day, which was disturbing to others. Xu Zhi never understood why—until now. She said when they’re 80 years old, if Chen Luzhou plays the violin for her again, she’ll tell him why. Chen Luzhou replied that if he had a partner then, he’d play for her. If not, he’d play for someone else’s partner.
Xu Zhi saw a moon-shaped lamp in a shop and bought it as a gift for Chen Luzhou, asking the store clerk to deliver it within the city. Tan Xu happened to be there and called out to Xu Zhi. Meanwhile, Chen Luzhou was playing basketball with Zhu Yangqi and asked him to keep an eye on Xu Zhi in Beijing. He didn’t mind her having a boyfriend, but didn’t want her to be bullied.
Cai Yingying walked by and saw Xu Zhi talking with Tan Xu, quickly took a photo and sent it to Zhu Yangqi, then snuck over to listen. Tan Xu told Xu Zhi he had explained to his parents that his poor exam results were his own fault and they wouldn’t blame her. Xu Zhi encouraged Tan Xu to retake the exam, saying he had the ability and that with the right mindset, he’d do fine.
Zhu Yangqi showed the photo to Chen Luzhou and asked if he was okay with it. Chen Luzhou went to an amusement park, saw someone playing the violin, and shared a video of it on his social media. When Chen Luzhou got home, he found a package at the door—it was the moon lamp. He saw Xu Zhi’s social media post and called her. Xu Zhi’s father helped her record a video as she shared her thoughts and reflections.
Her father felt she seemed emotionally stuck, even though she wasn’t like this as a child. Chen Luzhou’s mother messaged him about a video shoot. At first, he didn’t want to go, but she told him the pay was 3,000 yuan, so he agreed. Xu Zhi and her group went to share their reflections. Yang Yijing from the affiliated school greeted Xu Zhi, who introduced herself as being from Ruijun.
Yang Yijing commented that it made sense Xu Zhi wasn’t close with the others—most of them were from No. 1 High School. Yang Yijing said she’d heard there was someone amazing from No. 1 this year who scored 713 on raw scores, and if elective scores were added, it’d easily exceed 750. Unfortunately, he wasn’t there this time. During the recording, provincial top scorer Li Ke talked a lot about that top student.
After the session, they all went for a meal. Li Ke said he had spoken a lot earlier and hoped they didn’t mind not getting a chance to talk. Yang Yijing quickly said they didn’t. Li Ke commented that Xu Zhi ranked 30th in the province, and that if that top scorer had taken electives, she wouldn’t have made it here. Xu Zhi replied that in that case, he wouldn’t be the top scorer either.
At dinner, Li Ke said that top scorer would also be coming. When Chen Luzhou arrived, Xu Zhi finally realized he was the academic genius. Chen Luzhou asked Xu Zhi to come over, but she didn’t want to. As Xu Zhi walked away, Chen Luzhou quickly followed her. He said there were fireworks over there. Xu Zhi replied she wasn’t there to see fireworks. When she tried to leave, Chen Luzhou stopped her, and the two began bickering.
