Xu Zhi and Chen Luzhou were on their way back. Xu Zhi thought that midterms were coming up soon and suggested that the two of them compete to see whether No. 1 High School or Rui Jun was stronger. Chen Luzhou said he finally understood—Xu Zhi thought being in a relationship wasn’t interesting, but kissing without dating was? Xu Zhi said they had already kissed just now and felt it wasn’t that meaningful either.
The next day, Chen Luzhou messaged Xu Zhi, wanting to invite Zhu Yangqi to eat together. Unexpectedly, he happened to see Xu Zhi heading out with Tan Xu. Chen Luzhou and Zhu Yangqi went out for food, but Chen Luzhou was clearly distracted. Zhu Yangqi asked what was wrong, and Chen Luzhou mentioned the situation with Tan Xu. When the waiter brought the food, he forgot the vinegar.
Zhu Yangqi told the waiter there was no need—he could just dip from Chen Luzhou’s. Zhu Yangqi suggested that if something was bothering Chen Luzhou, he should just ask Xu Zhi directly. Chen Luzhou said their room was too small and that it was cramped for Zhu Yangqi, so they booked a room outside.
When Xu Zhi and Tan Xu went out, Tan Xu said he hadn’t been doing well repeating the school year and had done poorly on the mock exams—worse than before—so he came here looking for some motivation. Xu Zhi told him he should think carefully about why he was studying in the first place. Zhu Yangqi drank too much and fell asleep right away, while Chen Luzhou kept working on practice problems.
Zhu Yangqi woke up in the middle of the night and saw this, feeling that Chen Luzhou was really giving it his all. At four in the morning, Chen Luzhou left, saying he was going to have breakfast with Xu Zhi. He waited downstairs at Xu Zhi’s dorm until past eight, but she never came down, so he left. Xu Zhi had fallen asleep on her desk, and when she woke up, it was already past eight.
She went to class and messaged Chen Luzhou, asking when he was playing basketball. Chen Luzhou didn’t reply. Xu Zhi’s roommates wanted to go watch the basketball game, so she asked them to take her friend out for a walk. Her roommates said they wanted to check out some cute guys. Xu Zhi asked them for help, saying she wanted to go see her boyfriend.
Her roommates were shocked and asked when they had gotten back together, but Xu Zhi left first. Xu Zhi came to watch Chen Luzhou play basketball and handed him some water. She asked why he didn’t reply to her message, and Chen Luzhou said he had left his phone in the dorm to charge. Xu Zhi noticed something was off with him. Chen Luzhou brought up what happened with Tan Xu.
Xu Zhi was surprised he saw it and explained that there was nothing going on between her and Tan Xu—Chen Luzhou should know that. Chen Luzhou said Xu Zhi wasn’t someone who couldn’t say no, she just didn’t consider his feelings. Since that was the case, then they should let things go. Zhu Yangqi called Xu Zhi and said he couldn’t get in touch with Chen Luzhou. Xu Zhi told him that Chen Luzhou hadn’t brought his phone.
Zhu Yangqi asked if she was busy and invited her out to eat. He told Xu Zhi that Chen Luzhou had gone to find her at four in the morning, which shocked her—she didn’t know about that at all. Zhu Yangqi said that Chen Luzhou was already feeling jealous, and not being able to see her made him even angrier.
Zhu Yangqi explained that a lot had happened recently for Chen Luzhou—he never had the privilege to act spoiled growing up, and even when he ranked first in exams, his parents never praised him. He almost got caught up in that incident in Ruicheng, and after coming back, he went through his parents’ divorce. He thought he’d have to repeat a year but luckily got accepted through supplementary admission. Xu Zhi asked Zhu Yangqi for help.
Zhu Yangqi arranged to meet up with Chen Luzhou for karaoke, then he and Cai Yingying made up an excuse to leave. Cai Yingying asked if Zhu Yangqi remembered what he said when he was drunk last time. Zhu Yangqi had called her while drunk and confessed that he liked her. Meanwhile, Xu Zhi and Chen Luzhou sat there awkwardly. Chen Luzhou said he had canceled the room. Xu Zhi said there was no need—she could stay in it. When they went into the room, Chen Luzhou asked Xu Zhi if she wanted him to leave.
