After receiving Su Xiaohe's wish list, Mo Xiuran instructed Luo Feng to handle the arrangements. Concurrently, Nanny Guo was tasked with bringing Su Xiaohe to a specific location chosen by Mo Xiuran. Meanwhile, Lady Yu, who presided over the West Court, had always harbored a strong dislike for Mo Xiuran. She was astonished that he not only survived the Qingzhou battle, which was thought to be unwinnable, but also underwent a significant change in temperament after his "warding-off" wedding.
Her maid revealed that the bride on the wedding day was not Director Xu's daughter as expected, and she had escaped. Master Mo had punished Director Xu severely for this, but decided not to investigate further once Mo Xiuran had awakened. Feeling overlooked and determined to regain her influence, Lady Yu resolved to find a way to discredit Mo Xiuran.
Xiao Lian, a maid in the East Court and Lady Yu's spy, reported that Mo Xiuran had appointed an inexperienced and suspicious girl, Little Mint, as his first maid. Xiao Lian added that Little Mint had acted very suspiciously while purchasing items for Mo Xiuran. Nanny Guo led Su Xiaohe to an area outside the city, which was beautifully adorned with various colorful lanterns that glowed vibrantly in the night.
When Su Xiaohe’s blindfold was removed, she was surprised to see Mo Xiuran amidst the enchanting scene. She wondered what tricks he was playing, having been made to travel so far for such a mysterious arrangement. Mo Xiuran then had countless sky lanterns released, convinced that Su Xiaohe was deeply touched by his efforts.
Su Xiaohe, however, recognized the scene from her previous wish list and realized Mo Xiuran had likely seen it, which explained his detailed knowledge of her preferences. She asked if it was customary for the Mo Mansion to play such tricks on servants, which he readily affirmed, admitting he enjoyed playing tricks on her. He claimed her heart was beating fast, and when she denied it and suggested his was, he moved to check, but she stopped him.
Confident she was falling for him, Mo Xiuran leaned in to kiss her, only to be met with a punch from Su Xiaohe, who called him a "lecherous cat." Shocked, Mo Xiuran decided his next move should be to feed her. Su Xiaohe, for her part, remained wary of his intentions and was eager to break their contract. For Su Xiaohe’s second wish, a candlelight dinner was prepared.
Mo Xiuran had specially invited the chef from Manxiang Restaurant to cook exclusively for her. Su Xiaohe, still annoyed, claimed to have no appetite and allowed Mo Xiuran to order all but three dishes, which he intended for her to eat alone. Mo Xiuran believed that by indulging her and fattening her up, she would be easier to handle. Su Xiaohe thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
After dinner, Su Xiaohe, seemingly aware of Mo Xiuran's secret wish list, demanded to go rowing, which was her third wish. Mo Xiuran appeared visibly afraid of the water but, for the sake of breaking their contract, reluctantly agreed. As they rowed, Su Xiaohe spoke of her only relative, her brother, who had also been scared of water but always put on a brave face for her. She revealed that she came to the capital specifically to find his whereabouts.
Mo Xiuran listened, feeling a pang of sympathy for her. Just then, Luo Feng launched a spectacular display of fireworks, which Su Xiaohe mistakenly attributed to Mo Xiuran. She thanked him, expressing her genuine happiness, leading Mo Xiuran to believe the moment was ripe for another attempt at a kiss. However, Su Xiaohe thwarted his advance by offering him a piece of mint, which she revealed was her name: Little Mint.
Mo Xiuran was frustrated, bewildered why his perfectly executed plans consistently failed to win her over. Luo Feng suggested that Mo Xiuran's dazzling charm might make Little Mint feel inferior or unworthy. Mo Xiuran then proposed promoting her to make her feel worthy, but Luo Feng explained that as the first maid, she couldn't be promoted any higher. Mo Xiuran also dismissed the idea of lowering his own status.
Meanwhile, Su Xiaohe, reviewing her brother's manuscript, deduced that the person who kidnapped him had deliberately given her the Blue Soul Orb. She concluded that this was a tactic to make her, with Mo Xiuran's help (who emerged from the Blue Soul Orb), locate the remaining Soul Orbs. Unaware of this, Mo Xiuran continued to scheme.
Luo Feng, seeing Mo Xiuran’s frustration, suggested a radical approach: visiting a place where he could quickly understand women's mentality and master the art of getting along with them. Mo Xiuran readily agreed. At a brothel, they inquired about shortcuts to a woman's heart. The women advised a long-term approach of consistent care, which Mo Xiuran found too time-consuming. One of them then suggested "wine" as a quick solution.
Armed with this new strategy, Mo Xiuran brought a pot of wine to Su Xiaohe’s room, claiming it would help her forget her longing for her brother and drink until they dropped. Su Xiaohe, known in Qingshan Town as "never-drunk," readily agreed, planning to get him drunk so he would be pliable and help her break the contract. However, it was Mo Xiuran who quickly succumbed to the human wine.
In his drunken state, Mo Xiuran mumbled about wanting to break the contract and return home. He then affectionately grabbed Su Xiaohe, telling her he liked her. Su Xiaohe pushed him away, calling him a "stinky cat," and asked if he could find her brother. Mo Xiuran, still intoxicated, confidently affirmed that he could. Around the same time, Lady Yu was informed that Princess Nan Pingwan would soon arrive in Tian Li.
She also inquired about progress on a plan she had set in motion, expecting results soon. Shortly after, Xiao Lian reported that Mo Xiuran had visited a red-light district called Wind Snow and, smelling heavily of wine, had then stumbled into Little Mint's room. Lady Yu seized this opportunity to catch Mo Xiuran in a compromising situation, believing it would be the perfect way to ruin his reputation. She immediately gathered her servants and headed to the East Court.
Mo Xiuran, still groggy from the wine, suddenly heard Lady Yu approaching. Su Xiaohe, terrified of being found with him and facing disgrace or expulsion from the Mo Mansion, frantically begged him to hide. She even tried to make him transform by touching the Blue Soul Orb, but it didn't work.
Mo Xiuran initially refused to hide from Lady Yu, a mere concubine, but Su Xiaohe emphasized Lady Yu’s favored status with Master Mo and pleaded with him to consider her reputation. Desperate, she promised to agree to "anything" if he would just hide. Seizing the moment, Mo Xiuran demanded a "true love's kiss." Su Xiaohe, without hesitation, promised to give him one the following day, prompting him to quickly hide in the wardrobe.
Lady Yu entered the room, demanding to know Mo Xiuran's whereabouts. Su Xiaohe feigned innocence, claiming she was alone and had simply been drinking due to homesickness. Lady Yu, unconvinced, ordered her servants to search the room. As they rummaged through the wardrobe, Mo Xiuran, still in his cat form, scratched Lady Yu, making her scream in surprise and fright. He realized that drinking only slowed down his transformation, rather than preventing it entirely.
The next morning, Mo Xiuran, brimming with excitement, began packing his belongings in the cattery. He envisioned finally breaking the contract with Su Xiaohe that day and returning to his home on Yu Li Planet. However, when he excitedly confronted Su Xiaohe and reminded her of her promise, she feigned ignorance, claiming she didn't remember anything from the previous night.
She asserted that he had been extremely drunk, implying it was all an illusion, and reasoned that one could not believe the words of a drunken person, especially a drunken man. She added that even though he was a cat, he was still a "male cat" and a gentleman, and should not haggle with a little girl. With that, Su Xiaohe cheerfully departed, leaving a stunned and furious Mo Xiuran to realize he had been completely tricked.
