Be My Cat Episode 1 Recap
> Be My Cat Recap
In the bustling streets of Tian Li State, a wedding procession made its way. While many young women dream of a grand wedding day, complete with red bridal attire, firecrackers, and an ornate sedan, Su Xiaohe's experience was far from ideal. As she descended the steps, her foot twisted, causing her veil to fall.
She noticed several people in white attire in the courtyard, immediately realizing this was a "warding-off" wedding—a ceremony meant to bring good fortune to an ill person. Upon entering the bridal chamber, she found the groom lying on the bed looking somewhat familiar. As she drew closer, his eyes suddenly opened, but they were not human; they resembled a cat's.
This strange turn of events began ten days earlier in Qingshan Town, where Su Xiaohe ran a successful pet shop called Yiqu Pet Shop. Known for her soft and lively demeanor, she sold a variety of exotic pets, though she mysteriously never sold cats, admitting she simply didn't have the heart to. One day, she received a letter from the capital containing a Blue Soul Orb.
The letter, not in her brother Su Zimo's handwriting, informed her that he was missing and instructed her to find three other Soul Orbs. Concerned, Su Xiaohe decided there was something suspicious about his disappearance and resolved to travel to the capital alone, despite her assistant Xiao Yun's worries about the journey's dangers and recent border wars. Su Xiaohe assured her that she had her pet lizard, Little Dragon, with her and accepted some money for unforeseen needs.
On her journey, Su Xiaohe encountered Tian Li State's Major General, Mo Xiuran, who was gravely wounded and pursued by enemy soldiers. When her hand was cut, a drop of blood fell onto the Blue Soul Orb she wore, causing it to emit a faint light. Soon after, she saw Mo Xiuran fall from his horse, unconscious. Recognizing his Tian Li token, she knew she couldn't abandon him.
She cleverly startled her own horse to divert the pursuers' attention, then struggled to drag Mo Xiuran to a hidden spot. Realizing he was still breathing but unable to awaken him, she decided to attempt artificial respiration, a "breathing method" she knew. Unnoticed by her, the blue light from the Soul Orb shone onto his body during her efforts. Just as the enemy soldiers discovered and surrounded Su Xiaohe, Mo Xiuran suddenly awoke.
Fragmented memories of his past flashed through his mind, and he frustratingly realized that their recent contact had forged a master-servant contract between them. With newfound, formidable strength, he swiftly dispatched the enemies. Su Xiaohe seized the opportunity to flee, but Mo Xiuran pursued her relentlessly, intent on recovering the Blue Soul Orb. In a desperate move, Su Xiaohe’s pet lizard, Little Dragon, startled him, causing him to collapse in a faint. Seizing her chance, Su Xiaohe escaped.
Soon after, Tian Li soldiers, having located the Major General’s horse, found the unconscious Mo Xiuran and brought him back to the capital. The military doctor’s prognosis was grim, stating he might not wake, prompting his family to arrange a "warding-off" wedding in hopes of dispelling his illness.
In the capital, Su Xiaohe learned from onlookers that the man she had rescued was Mo Xiuran, the renowned and valorous Major General of Tian Li State, whose possible demise was deeply mourned by the populace. She proceeded to the Jade Courtyard to inquire about her brother, Su Zimo, from Director Xu. Director Xu confirmed that Su Zimo had been missing for several days since an invitation to Mo Mansion from Lady Yu.
Suspecting her brother might have been kidnapped, Su Xiaohe decided she needed to investigate at Mo Mansion. However, Director Xu, whose own daughter vehemently refused to be a "warding-off" bride for Mo Xiuran, secretly drugged Su Xiaohe. She woke up to find herself dressed as a bride in a wedding sedan, with guards preventing any escape, leaving her no choice but to proceed with the marriage into the Mo Mansion—leading directly to the opening scene.
Inside the bridal chamber, Su Xiaohe approached the unconscious groom and recognized him as the man she had saved in the forest. As her Blue Soul Orb touched Mo Xiuran's body, he awoke. His eyes, now a startling yellowish hue with brown pupils, unnerved Su Xiaohe, confirming they were not normal. He lunged for the Soul Orb, but Su Xiaohe used Little Dragon to fend him off, causing him to fall and her to tumble out the window.
Mo Xiuran's parents rushed into the room, overjoyed to find their son awake, but he did not recognize them. Upon learning he had been asleep for ten hours, Mo Xiuran's expression darkened, and as night fell, precisely twelve hours after his initial awakening in the forest, he transformed into a cat. The being inhabiting Mo Xiuran's body was, in fact, a prince from Yu Li Planet. He realized that touching the Soul Orb again had finally stabilized his powers.
However, the master-servant contract now bound him, allowing him to maintain human form for only twelve hours a day, and any injury to Su Xiaohe would affect him too. He desperately needed to find Su Xiaohe, retrieve the Soul Orb, break the contract, and return to his home planet. Meanwhile, Su Xiaohe, having escaped Mo Mansion, lamented her misfortune, but was relieved that she still possessed the Blue Soul Orb and Little Dragon.
Hungry and penniless, she sought food at Bu Ou's Meow's Fried Fish stall. Bu Ou, noticing the Blue Soul Orb, kindly offered her a meal on credit. Learning from Bu Ou that Mo Mansion was hiring servants, and being the wealthiest family in the capital, Su Xiaohe decided to apply, believing it was her best chance to investigate her brother's disappearance. Back at Mo Mansion, the now-possessed Mo Xiuran exhibited a drastically changed personality.
He displayed no interest in the emperor's lavish gifts of gold, brocade, and precious gems, but became infatuated with a soft fox-mink. He ordered a cattery to be built in the backyard and dispatched a guard with a portrait of Su Xiaohe, instructing him to search the entire city for her. As the guard exited, he passed a woman who strongly resembled the portrait—Su Xiaohe herself, arriving to apply for a position at the Mo Mansion. She stated her name, Su Xiaohe, and was directed to enter for her interview.
