Tian Rong asked Li Wanbing to take her to see Dafeng, Uncle Dafeng, who had acquired several government-subsidized housing units from developers. Tian Rong wanted to buy an entire unit and then resell the individual apartments with a 30,000 yuan commission for each. She asked Li Wanbing to negotiate with Uncle Dafeng for a discount and taught him negotiation skills.

Li Wanbing approached Uncle Dafeng, falsely claiming that he and Tian Rong were on the verge of divorce due to a disagreement about buying a house.
