Xu Kaixin, thirty-three years old, is a single mother with a daughter and a son. Xu Kaixin's birth mother is missing, and her aunt raised her, naming her Kaixin (meaning happy) in the hope that she would live a happy life. Her aunt is not Xu Kaixin's mother but is better than a mother, and Xu Kaixin affectionately calls her aunt Sister Lili.
Xu Kaixin had previously saved up the down payment for a large, 140-square-meter house and was diligently paying the monthly mortgage, but her best friend took advantage and seduced her ex-husband. They colluded to set a trap and kicked Xu Kaixin and the children out of the house, so now Xu Kaixin, Sister Lili, and the children live in a rented place. Xu Kaixin runs a cake shop.
She wears many hats alone, serving as owner, salesperson, porter, and delivery person. Due to mistakenly taking someone else's luggage at the airport, she specially rushed back to the airport to exchange luggage with the person who took hers, doing so in front of airport staff. Because she had opened the other person's suitcase and found it full of condoms, a misunderstanding arose.
Mei Chengyi was in a hurry to get his luggage and go to work, and coupled with Xu Kaixin's unwillingness to listen to his explanation, he had no choice but to let it go. Her daughter, Qian Dami, has been acting strangely recently, often hiding in the study to video call someone. Early in the morning, Dami went to school without even eating breakfast.
Xu Kaixin called her daughter's homeroom teacher and unexpectedly learned there was a parent meeting today, but Dami hadn't told her at all. After getting her luggage, Xu Kaixin hurried to the school. The parent meeting had already started, and her daughter was reciting an essay she had written, while Xu Kaixin's scum ex-husband, Qian Hao, sat nearby, smiling and listening to Dami recite the essay about him. Mei Chengyi's company is facing layoffs.
Mei Chengyi pleaded his case tearfully to the director. Director Li gave him a chance, offering a three-month probation period. As thanks, Mei Chengyi gave the limited edition building blocks he bought abroad, which he had promised his daughter, to Director Li's son instead. After the parent meeting ended, Xu Kaixin secretly followed Qian Hao and her daughter, overhearing her daughter Dami express resentment towards her and Sister Lili, while also showing longing and reluctance towards Qian Hao.
It wasn't until she heard Qian Hao making empty promises to Dami that Xu Kaixin finally couldn't hold back and poured a cup of drink over her scum ex-husband's head. Back then, Qian Hao had an affair with Xu Kaixin's best friend, Hu Xiaojiao, and set a trap to deceive Xu Kaixin into a fake divorce to buy a school district house. After getting the house, they kicked Xu Kaixin and the two children out.
The divorce agreement stated half of the property, roughly sixty thousand yuan, as a one-time child support payment, but Qian Hao hasn't paid a single cent of child support in these two years. Xu Kaixin was in the right, and Qian Hao couldn't refute her at all, but Qian Dami was ungrateful and spoke in favor of Qian Hao.
Xu Kaixin was provoked by what she just said and spoke angrily about changing custody, then called the teachers one by one to cancel all tutoring classes. Qian Dami turned to Qian Hao for help, proposing that she wanted to live with him. Qian Hao only made empty promises and couldn't actually let his daughter live with him, so he easily appeased his naive daughter with just a few words.
Later, Xu Kaixin reflected, unable to understand why Qian Hao and Hu Xiaojiao returned from living comfortably abroad and suddenly wanted custody of the children. Her friend, Li Xiaoxiao, speculated to Xu Kaixin that it was likely because they couldn't have children. Their speculation was correct; Qian Hao is indeed unable to have children now, but his mother wants a grandson, so Qian Hao wants to use Dami to get in touch with Xiaomi.
However, Xiaomi hadn't been born when he divorced Xu Kaixin and had no affection for him at all. Getting custody of his son, Xiaomi, would probably not be easy. Mei Chengyi went to his in-laws' place to pick up his children. His in-laws advised him to remarry, but the person they wanted him to marry was surprisingly Youyou, his deceased wife's sister.
Youyou is a DINK (Double Income, No Kids) and had sounded out Mei Chengyi about this matter beforehand, confirming he didn't like her, which reassured her. To dispel his in-laws' idea, Mei Chengyi lied and said he had a girlfriend. To make the act convincing, Mei Chengyi submitted his profile to a matchmaking agency. Coincidentally, this agency was where Xu Kaixin's friend, Li Xiaoxiao, worked. Li Xiaoxiao immediately sent Mei Chengyi's information to Xu Kaixin, who recognized Mei Chengyi at a glance as the person who had taken her luggage by mistake.
