Jin Yao, in fact, was waiting for Xie Fei at his doorstep with breakfast pancakes she’d queued for, but Xie Fei, claiming to be in a hurry for work, left without partaking. Moments later, Xia Xiaoning rushed out and was greeted by Gu Chenyu, who was waiting for her with her favorite food.
She confided in him that her intense training had left her constantly hungry. They discussed Tang Xue's upcoming audition for the Female No.2 role. Xia Xiaoning, however, asserted that she wouldn't be saddened if Tang Xue secured the part, as she had thoroughly prepared for all roles and was confident there would always be future opportunities.
At the office, Leader Wang dramatically recounted to his colleagues how he had seen Xia Xiaoning get into General Gu's car the previous day, and even witnessed General Gu personally fastening her seatbelt, their faces almost touching. The colleagues were surprised, voicing their belief that General Gu and Mr. Hao were the "official match" in their minds, and that General Gu and Xia Xiaoning were an ill-suited pair.
Meanwhile, in the recording studio, Tang Xue made everyone wait while she meticulously applied her makeup, asserting that looking good would improve her mood and thus her performance. When Gu Chenyu asked if she was ready, she slowly and languidly approached the microphone. During her audition, Tang Xue’s voice repeatedly broke in emotionally charged parts. Gu Chenyu paused the session and asked for her assessment.
Tang Xue, after turning to look at herself in the mirror, casually replied that it was "okay," attributing any issues to getting up too early and a sub-par vocal state. She then shifted blame to the equipment and the recording engineer. Gu Chenyu swiftly debunked her excuses, confirming the studio was her choice and the engineer was their best, having prepared an hour early.
He directly pinpointed her "very serious problem in voice control," highlighting multiple instances of voice breaking, which he deemed professionally unacceptable. Tang Xue tried to blame it on a sore throat from eating too much hot pot and claimed she hadn't had enough time to familiarize herself with the script, concluding her performance was "good enough."
Gu Chenyu, however, stated that "good enough" was not acceptable to him, and further recording would be a waste of time, as her problem was one of attitude, not condition. He then departed to oversee other company auditions. Gu Chenyu then directly confronted Yanran, questioning her recommendation of Tang Xue as highly professional and experienced, and asking if Yanran had even heard her dub. Yanran quickly apologized for her oversight, promising to talk to Tang Xue.
Gu Chenyu dismissed the need, reiterating it was an attitude problem. Elsewhere, during the ongoing auditions, Xia Xiaoning's performance was praised by a teacher for being genuinely heartfelt, a significant improvement. Gu Chenyu later arrived and agreed with another teacher that new talents like Xia Xiaoning should be given opportunities to grow.
He then instructed Leader Wang to inform all selected voice actors to begin on schedule, tasking him specifically with notifying the chosen Female No.2 candidate and arranging a full script read-through for all actors at 2:30 PM. Later, Yanran encountered Xie Fei, noting his recent absence from the production department and playfully asking if he had been avoiding them. Xie Fei explained he was genuinely busy, managing responsibilities beyond their department.
Yanran then pressed him about his previous plans for a confession. Xie Fei admitted it had "failed" but explained he had "figured it out," realizing that "feelings cannot be forced" and that Xia Xiaoning harbored no romantic interest in him. Yanran inquired if he was giving up easily, to which Xie Fei replied that it wasn't that he was giving up easily, but that "true love is invincible."
Xie Fei then tried to share some advice with Yanran, suggesting that Gu Chenyu seemed genuinely serious this time and she should try to accept it. Yanran, however, dismissed his words, stating she needed no comfort and firmly believed that Gu Chenyu and Xia Xiaoning's "so-called feelings" wouldn't last long. Gu Chenyu met Xia Xiaoning on the rooftop, teasing her about a new hairstyle and the secrecy of their meeting. He presented her with the audition score sheet.
Xia Xiaoning was ecstatic to see her remarkably high score and to learn she had secured the Female No.2 role. She playfully asked if he had intentionally given her higher marks. Meanwhile, Luo Li and Yanran gossiped about Xia Xiaoning, a newcomer, getting the Female No.2 role so quickly, especially given that Tang Xue wasn't even given another chance. Luo Li then met with Tang Xue, subtly informing her that while Mr. Hao highly admired her, the Female No.2 role had gone to Xia Xiaoning, who was also General Gu's personal assistant. Tang Xue immediately concluded this was a case of "nepotism."
At the same time, Xie Fei was giving strict instructions to his staff to meticulously report any visitors, especially those without appointments, and to pre-confirm any female visitors with him. As he headed to his car, Jin Yao suddenly appeared from its side, claiming she was just "passing by." Xie Fei expressed disbelief and tried to dismiss her, stating his busy schedule. Jin Yao insisted she was equally busy and firmly urged him into the car.
Inside, Jin Yao admired expensive clothing brands, exclaiming over their cost. Xie Fei internally labeled her a "gold digger," concluding this made her easy to deal with. At a clothing store, Xie Fei attempted to deter Jin Yao by offering to buy her any clothes she desired if she would stop pursuing him, stating that "real men think women are also realistic." At the register, Xie Fei feigned financial distress, dramatically declaring that his startup had not yet secured B-round financing, and though it appeared successful, it was financially fragile. He exaggerated that the clothes would cost him several months' rent. The store staff subtly corrected him on the price. Jin Yao, unperturbed, took out her own card to pay for everything and then, much to Xie Fei's chagrin, offered to buy him some men's clothes.
Annoyed and defeated, Xie Fei quickly exited the store. That evening, Gu Chenyu walked Xia Xiaoning home. He offered to tutor her in her studies and invited her to his place to "feed his fish," a veiled invitation to spend more time together. Xia Xiaoning demurred, saying she had theoretical studies and would seek him out when she needed his help. Just then, Jin Yao arrived, pulling Xia Xiaoning into their apartment.
Inside, Xia Xiaoning marveled at Jin Yao's expensive new clothes. Jin Yao admitted she had confessed her feelings to Xie Fei first, which she felt gave him an unfair advantage, but vowed to formulate a new strategy to deal with him. Xia Xiaoning then excitedly shared the news of securing the Female No.2 role, and they embraced in celebration.
Their conversation was interrupted by a delivery person from "Fu Man Lou," bringing food for Xia Xiaoning, who was confused as she hadn't ordered anything. Gu Chenyu then messaged her, asking if she had received her dinner and revealing he had ordered her favorite seafood rice to celebrate her getting the Female No.2 role, inviting her to eat with him. They ate together, separated by glass, enjoying what Gu Chenyu referred to as the "Fu Man Lou couple set meal." Jin Yao, feeling like a "light bulb" in the romantic scene, joked that Gu Chenyu would "kill her with his eyes" and left them alone, suggesting Xia Xiaoning order a similar meal for Xie Fei.
Xia Xiaoning then mentioned to Gu Chenyu that Jin Yao was now "officially pursuing" Xie Fei, adding that "the wicked have their own wicked," implying Xie Fei was the wicked one. Jin Yao, from nearby, playfully corrected her, affirming that Xie Fei was indeed the "wicked" one. Later, Xie Fei paid a visit to Gu Chenyu, teasing him about his absence all day, implying he was on a "date."
He advised Gu Chenyu to be more discreet about his "underground love" with Xia Xiaoning, as he had already heard gossip in the pantry. Gu Chenyu admitted he wanted to go public but Xia Xiaoning preferred to keep it private. Xie Fei agreed with Xia Xiaoning, explaining that even though she earned the Female No.2 role on merit, others might still harbor resentment or generate negative public opinion.
Gu Chenyu acknowledged this, stating he was "waiting for an opportunity" to make their relationship public. Gu Chenyu then playfully questioned why Xie Fei hadn't eaten his takeaway with Jin Yao that night, remarking that he (Gu Chenyu) hadn't been so gossipy before, and suggested Xia Xiaoning might have sent Xie Fei to lobby on Jin Yao's behalf.
Xie Fei dismissed the idea, teasing Gu Chenyu back, saying "lust blinds reason," and implying Gu Chenyu was so infatuated he had even started "raising fish." Xie Fei then joked he was "superfluous" and prepared to leave, though Gu Chenyu invited him to stay. The next morning, Gu Chenyu messaged Xia Xiaoning, informing her he had family matters to attend to and would be late to the office, instructing her to go directly to the recording studio.
Shortly after, Luo Li and two colleagues approached Xia Xiaoning's desk, asking her to take some documents to Gu Chenyu for his signature. They then loudly gossiped about Mr. Hao having gone with Gu Chenyu to "see his parents" that morning. They elaborated that Mr. Hao and Gu Chenyu's families were "family friends" and that the two had been "childhood sweethearts," so such visits were normal.
Xia Xiaoning, ignoring their thinly veiled attempt to provoke her, simply left for the recording studio. The colleagues offered her a sarcastic congratulations on securing the Female No.2 role. Meanwhile, Gu Chenyu, his parents, and Yanran were at Yanran's parents' tombstone. Gu Chenyu's parents expressed their gratitude for Yanran joining them, assuring her they had always regarded her as their own child. Yanran thanked them, expressing her strong desire to be with them forever.
Gu Chenyu's father then reminisced about a past agreement with Yanran's father to "strengthen their family ties" by forming a marriage alliance between their children, lamenting that Yanran's father would not live to see their children marry.
