Rou and Mei Shiqing were discussing recent events. Rou reported that the Salter Cartel had colluded with Dragon Stockade and warned Mei Shiqing to be careful. Xiao Wanzi, frustrated by the situation, wanted to immediately apprehend the imposter Lord Nocturnal-elf.
Mei Shiqing, however, observed that the fake Lord Nocturnal-elf's actions, such as lighting fires without destroying shops and visiting brothels without committing robbery, were not truly malicious, leading him to believe there was more to the situation than met the eye, suggesting it was not typical of the Salter Cartel's methods. Meanwhile, Xiao Bao, determined to frame the real Lord Nocturnal-elf, disguised himself and declared his intention to accuse him of "molesting woman."
His initial attempts to find a woman proved difficult, as most of the people he encountered were men. He eventually found a woman and attempted to "molest" her, only to discover she was heavily pregnant and about to give birth. Feeling a pang of conscience, Xiao Bao quickly took her to a doctor's clinic. There, he and the woman's husband anxiously encouraged her as she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
Witnessing the birth and the parents' joy, Xiao Bao felt an unexpected sense of happiness, far exceeding the thrill of winning money. He returned to his camp, celebrating his "glorious deed" by ordering a feast for his men, who mistakenly believed he had won a fortune gambling. He dismissed their speculation as "Philistine." Xiao Bao then sought out Lu Yingyao to share his experience.
He found her and enthusiastically recounted how he had saved the pregnant woman and felt "over the moon." Lu Yingyao praised his inherent kindness and expressed her hope that this incident would prompt him to reconsider the distinct paths of good and evil. Inspired, Xiao Bao promised he would dedicate himself to doing good deeds, even more than the real Lord Nocturnal-elf. Lu Yingyao encouraged him to listen to his heart and choose his future path wisely.
Following this, Xiao Bao became "addicted" to performing good deeds in disguise as Lord Nocturnal-elf. He helped a couple reconcile their argument, and assisted an elderly woman with her laundry, earning praise from the grateful public. Soon, rumors spread through the streets about Lord Nocturnal-elf's numerous good deeds, with children even expressing desires to grow up and be like him. Mei Shiqing and Xiao Wanzi overheard these discussions.
While Mei Shiqing was pleased, believing that any good done in the name of Lord Nocturnal-elf was positive, Xiao Wanzi was furious, feeling that the imposter was discrediting the true hero. She vehemently declared that Lord Nocturnal-elf was unique and irreplaceable in her heart, and she would find a way to teach the fake one a lesson. To lure out the imposter, Xiao Wanzi devised a plan.
She climbed atop the city gate, dramatically crying out that she was being sold to a brothel and would rather die than face such a fate, threatening to jump. After some time, she grew frustrated when only Mei Shiqing, disguised as Lord Nocturnal-elf, appeared. She continued her fabricated story about her cruel father and impending sale to a brothel. Mei Shiqing, recognizing her charade, calmly told her to "Jump then!" and questioned her lack of "sympathy."
As she became agitated, Xiao Wanzi nearly fell, but Mei Shiqing swiftly caught her. Once safe, Xiao Wanzi quickly realized it was Mei Shiqing and accused him of being the fake Lord Nocturnal-elf, while he playfully mocked her "poor skills" with a sleeping gas. Meanwhile, Nan Batian, growing impatient with Xiao Bao's lack of progress, threatened him.
He announced his departure from the mountain stronghold for a period and demanded that Xiao Bao capture Lord Nocturnal-elf by the time he returned, or his personal request (likely concerning Lu Yingyao) would be denied. Distressed, Xiao Bao confided in Lu Yingyao, telling her that if he failed, he would no longer be able to protect her. Lu Yingyao, however, urged him not to harm Lord Nocturnal-elf, insisting that the hero was a good man.
She even declared that she would rather marry Nan Batian and remain in the stronghold forever than see Xiao Bao compromise his morality by capturing an innocent person. Xiao Bao, though verbally agreeing, secretly resolved to catch Lord Nocturnal-elf at all costs to ensure Lu Yingyao's safety, professing that he liked her even more now and had to do this to save her, regardless of the consequences.
Lu Yingyao warned him against confusing good and evil, stating that such actions would bring him no benefit. Later that night, Xiao Wanzi once again feigned a sprained ankle, calling for help. Xiao Bao, still determined to catch Lord Nocturnal-elf, appeared in his disguise, initially frustrated by another call to do a good deed. As he approached, he recognized Xiao Wanzi, realizing she was "the princess who married into the general's residence."
He confronted her, demanding to know who sent her. Just then, Mei Shiqing, also in his Lord Nocturnal-elf attire, arrived. Xiao Wanzi immediately sought refuge behind Mei Shiqing. The two Lord Nocturnal-elves exchanged taunts, with Xiao Bao ridiculing Mei Shiqing's "old woman's foot-binding cloth" costume, and Mei Shiqing questioning Xiao Bao's crude disguise.
They began to fight, and in the chaos, Xiao Bao was pushed backward by Mei Shiqing, causing him to collide with Xiao Wanzi, sending them both tumbling into a nearby well. Mei Shiqing quickly threw Xiao Bao aside and then jumped into the well to rescue Xiao Wanzi. Finding her unconscious in the water, Mei Shiqing performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. When Xiao Wanzi regained consciousness and saw Mei Shiqing, her heart stirred, but a sense of guilt and embarrassment quickly arose.
Mei Shiqing tried to explain that his actions were a matter of "urgent" necessity, but Xiao Wanzi, overwhelmed, told him not to follow her. The next day, Xiao Wanzi remained troubled and avoided Mei Shiqing, even claiming she wasn't hungry at breakfast to escape his presence. Mei Shiqing, concerned and believing he had upset her with his "impulsiveness," confronted her, apologizing for kissing her without permission and promising "it won't happen again."
However, Xiao Wanzi, who had initially not blamed him for the kiss, became even more furious at his apology, interpreting it as him wanting to distance himself from her. She angrily declared that whoever brought up the incident again would be despised, then ran off. Mei Shiqing, utterly confused by her reaction, confided in Siheng about the incident. Siheng, initially perplexed, then jokingly called Mei Shiqing a "love rat" for apologizing after the kiss.
Realizing the complexity of the situation, Siheng quickly excused himself. Mei Shiqing was left to ponder how his act of saving her had somehow made him a "love rat." Later, Qiaoyun, observing Xiao Wanzi's unusual behavior, tried to question her. Xiao Wanzi feigned sleep, but Qiaoyun, seeing through the act, directly asked, "Do you have a crush on the Young Lord?" Xiao Wanzi vehemently denied it, calling Mei Shiqing "that big idiot" and claiming she "couldn't hate him more," leaving Qiaoyun to wonder what truly transpired the previous night.
