Gu Xicheng was deeply troubled when a tin box fell, bringing back painful memories of playing with his elder brother, Gu Nanzheng, who was no longer with him. His distress intensified upon seeing the number 27 on a cake, causing him to abruptly tell Su Yanxi to leave. Su Yanxi immediately understood that his "even number obsession" was linked to the photos in the box, which depicted his brother.
She tried to connect with him, asserting that she wasn't "someone else" and they had promised to take care of each other, urging him to open up. Gu Xicheng fiercely pushed back, stating he had carried the burden for twenty years and preferred to suffer alone, rejecting any offer to "open up" his wounds.
Su Yanxi argued that his obsession had become a "huge physiological burden" and he would "collapse" if he continued to carry it alone, to which he retorted he would rather "collapse and die." Eventually, Gu Xicheng relented and began to confide in Su Yanxi. He revealed that Gu Nanzheng was his elder brother, cherished by the entire Gu family, the smartest, most loved eldest son, and the sole heir to the Huayan Group.
Gu Xicheng tragically admitted that he was responsible for his brother's accidental death in a car crash when Gu Nanzheng was seven years old. He recounted watching his brother lie in the hospital for seven days before passing away. Overwhelmed with guilt, Gu Xicheng confessed he believed he had ruined the Gu family, causing his mother's depression and his father's departure to be with her, and leading to his grandmother's illness from raising him alone.
He repeatedly blamed himself for killing his brother and destroying his family, asking Su Yanxi if she was "satisfied" with his confession. Meanwhile, Situ and An'an were out on a date. Situ playfully attempted to put his arm around An'an but, fearing he might get hit, made an excuse about an itchy back. Later, as An'an dozed in the car, Situ tried to steal a kiss, only to be comically thwarted by his seatbelt, his wish once again unfulfilled.
After Gu Xicheng's painful confession, he retreated into his room, grieving. He vividly recalled childhood memories: playing happily with his brother, who always accompanied him. He remembered playing marbles on the roadside with friends when his brother returned, warning him about the danger. Just then, a car approached, and his brother pushed him out of the way, taking the impact himself, and eventually dying from his injuries.
Su Yanxi, visibly distraught, wandered the streets alone, unsure how to face Gu Xicheng. Meanwhile, An'an received news of the conflict and, accompanied by Situ, arrived at the Gu family residence determined to confront Gu Xicheng, who had locked himself in his room. Madam Gu returned home to find scattered old photos, guessed what had happened, felt at a loss on how to console Gu Xicheng, and also worried about Su Yanxi's safety.
Situ intervened, reminding An'an that Madam Gu was home and Gu Xicheng likely had his reasons. He suggested they search for Su Yanxi, as she didn't drive and wouldn't be far. Both An'an and Situ searched the nearby streets, but found no sign of her. Amidst her sadness, Su Yanxi received a phone call from her mother, who had borrowed a phone from a neighboring patient while He Jinxi was away.
Tearfully, Su Yanxi put on a brave face, telling her mother she was doing well, had a new job with excellent online sales (often ranking in the top ten), joined a new company where she could do what she loved, and had a very caring boyfriend. She reassured her mother not to worry about money and to focus on getting better, saying her efforts were all for her mother's recovery.
Her mother, sensing Su Yanxi's hidden sorrow and tears, worried she had been wronged and blamed herself for being a burden. Su Yanxi reiterated her well-being and loving relationship, but after hanging up, she broke down, confessing to herself that she missed her mother dearly and was not doing well at all. Others continued their search for Su Yanxi.
Fu Boya, realizing the extreme danger, frantically called Gu Xicheng, demanding to know why Su Yanxi was alone outside in such bad weather and warning him of the perils of being by the sea during a typhoon. He threatened serious consequences if anything happened to her. Gu Xicheng, filled with regret, immediately drove out to find her. Su Yanxi, enduring the fierce wind and rain, found refuge in a corner by the supermoon viewing spot.
Gu Xicheng soon arrived, shielding her with an umbrella and draping his suit jacket over her. Su Yanxi apologized for prying into his past and for losing her temper, acknowledging the immense weight he had carried for two decades and how he would be crushed if he didn't let it go.
Gu Xicheng admitted that the medicine at home was evidence of his inability to cope, and he couldn't forgive himself for his brother's death and the perceived ruin of the Gu family. He expressed his profound loneliness, feeling like he was the only one left, symbolized by single items like a pair of chopsticks, a cup, clothes, and shoes in the house. Su Yanxi tenderly reminded him that he still had Madam Gu and her.
Gu Xicheng then asked if she would always be by his side and never leave. Su Yanxi hesitated, mentioning "too many obstacles between them," but Gu Xicheng passionately declared that he didn't care about any obstacles – be it Nangong Liuli, Fu Boya, their past, or his even number obsession – none of them were "their problems." He confessed he liked her "more than she could imagine" and "more than he expected," simply wanting her to stay with him.
When Su Yanxi removed the jacket and stepped into the rain, Gu Xicheng quickly rushed to cover her with the umbrella, prioritizing her comfort over his own. No longer able to resist, Su Yanxi ran forward and passionately kissed him. From a distance, Fu Boya witnessed the kiss, his expression conveying nothing but blessings for the couple.
