Lin Lu expressed concern to Shi Liansen that he was getting thinner. Later, a colleague brought a note from Lin Lu, reminding him to eat so he wouldn't starve before signing contracts. Shi Liansen then called Lin Lu, asking where she was.
She claimed to be taking a walk in the park, but he revealed that someone had seen her walking alone with luggage. Shi Liansen found Lin Lu in the park, visibly upset and with a scraped knee. He offered her a room in his house, suggesting she could move back as a tenant, implying she had nowhere to stay.
Lin Lu was hesitant, stating that their agreement had terminated and it wouldn't be proper for them to live under the same roof if they weren't in a relationship. Shi Liansen insisted he was just looking for a tenant, listing specific requirements like being quiet, clean, healthy, active, and not annoying.
Lin Lu observed that these sounded more like requirements for a girlfriend than a tenant, but acknowledged his mysophobia and insomnia might make it hard to find an ideal tenant. Despite his arguments, Lin Lu still felt it was inappropriate. As Lin Lu tried to leave after bandaging his cut hand, Shi Liansen exaggerated his pain and refused to go to the hospital alone. He claimed the rusty knife might cause an infection, making Lin Lu worry.
He then subtly brought up Huanzhen’s declining revenue due to rumors, implying her partial responsibility. Feeling pressured and sympathetic, Lin Lu eventually agreed to be his tenant. Shi Liansen then directed her to the guest room upstairs. After she went to bed, he reminded himself that they were just landlord and tenant, and he shouldn't think about other things. Meanwhile, Lin Lu also reminded herself that he was just her landlord.
Shi Liansen later received a call from a friend who enthusiastically shared "Seven Puppy's Love Tips" to help him win back his girl. The friend outlined seven strategies, including creating opportunities, showing a weak side to trigger protective instincts, creating distance to make the heart grow fonder, sweet-talking and buying gifts, using a "honey trap" by showing off his body, expressing love, and never giving up.
Elsewhere, Shen Jing tried to comfort a despondent Liang Zhi, offering him snacks and homemade white fungus and lotus seed soup. She noted he was even busier now than when he was a store manager at Huanzhen. Liang Zhi expressed his bitterness, feeling sorry for himself and comparing himself unfavorably to Shi Liansen. Shen Jing then confessed her unwavering feelings for him, regardless of his status. Liang Zhi, however, apologized and left, heading to a bar where he ordered whisky.
He got into an argument with the staff and then with a man and his female companion, who taunted him about being an illegitimate son and about Lin Lu choosing Shi Liansen over him. The next morning, Lin Lu prepared breakfast, explaining to Shi Liansen that she felt she owed him for his injured hand and for helping her out of trouble. Shi Liansen, however, claimed he was in the mood for Western food.
They almost spoke at the same time, but Lin Lu quickly told him she planned to work overtime and might be home late. She felt she had upset him again. Immediately afterward, Shi Liansen instructed his assistant, Maggie, to change a meeting location with a client to Lehua Restaurant, citing its proximity to the client's company.
At the Huanzhen store, Lin Lu encountered a customer attempting to return an empty product without a receipt, complaining of skin irritation and accusing the company of selling fake products. Lin Lu calmly explained the return policy, stating that returns were only accepted within seven days, with a receipt, and for unused products. Shi Liansen appeared, introducing himself as the boss. The customer redirected her complaints to him, criticizing Lin Lu's "stupidity" and suggesting she should be fired.
Shi Liansen quickly interjected, saying he couldn't fire his girlfriend. This surprised both Lin Lu and the customer. He then quickly clarified that it was just a "slip of the tongue" or a "habit." He offered to help the customer contact the online service since she bought the product there. Later, Liang Zhi called Lin Lu, apologizing for his previous recklessness and asking to meet at Lehua Restaurant to discuss something important in person.
He hoped they could remain friends, given their 16-year acquaintance. At the restaurant, Liang Zhi further apologized and then revealed that he was the illegitimate son of Li Changxin, the President of Sally Group. He explained that his father had abandoned him and his mother, and only called him now to make him a scapegoat for his legitimate son. Lin Lu encouraged him, reminding him of his capabilities and urging him not to let past grudges affect him.
As they talked, Shi Liansen arrived at the restaurant, pretending to be meeting a client there. He approached their table, feigning surprise to see Lin Lu, and claimed she was there to meet Liang Zhi with him. He once again referred to Lin Lu as his "girlfriend" and stated that her friends were his friends. Visibly frustrated, Liang Zhi abruptly left. Back home, Lin Lu asked Shi Liansen for help with her English, noting his proficiency.
He initially refused, but she offered to help him with his clay molding if he helped her. He then demanded an apology for her past criticisms and for making the room messy. She apologized, and he added that she shouldn't lie to him, especially when meeting Liang Zhi. She then asked for clarification on a grammar point, specifically why a sentence with "have" also used "set."
Shi Liansen explained it was the present perfect tense and that "set" was the past participle. Lin Lu struggled with the explanation, questioning what a past participle was and misinterpreting "have" to mean "to own or possess." Frustrated, Shi Liansen suggested she give up.
