Time Teaches Me to Love Recap
Episode 1 Recap
The story opens with Shi Liansen's poignant reflections on a past love. He laments that 100 days have passed since a significant departure, finding himself where their story began. He recalls being enchanted by her smiles, hugs, mischief, and jokes, acknowledging that she became everything to him. Despite having countless reasons to see her, he struggles to find a proper position in her life, fearing the loss of being by her side during her moments of sadness.
He admits to never expecting to love anyone until he met her, and believes he won't be able to love again if it's not her. He wishes Lin Lu could hear his words of love, which have grown over time, recognizing that while beautiful things often come true only in dreams, he still has her when he wakes up.
Meanwhile, Lin Lu, a cheerful and diligent young woman, expresses her personal philosophy, stating that she dreams of beautiful things coming true but works hard to achieve them, always either at work or on her way to it. She receives exciting news from Mr. Liang, informing her that she has been invited for a makeup artist job interview at Huanzhen.
Full of enthusiasm, she sets off on her scooter, but her journey is abruptly interrupted when she collides with a car driven by Shi Liansen, damaging her scooter. She quickly takes note of his license plate number. Shi Liansen faces significant pressure. Someone informs him that without the Fang family's financial support, Huanzhen Group risks bankruptcy or acquisition by the Sally Group, and therefore, he must be engaged to Fang Qiao.
Shi Liansen firmly refuses, stating he won't get engaged and won't sacrifice his marriage. He meets with Fang Qiao, reiterating that their proposed marriage is merely their parents' idea and that he has no intention of going through with it. Fang Qiao, however, remains persistent, highlighting her family's wealth as a means to save Huanzhen and asserting that their marriage will eventually happen, suggesting it could even boost the "Cinderella" product line.
Adding to Shi Liansen's challenges, all department executives at Huanzhen collectively resign via email, likely poached by a rival company. He instructs his assistant, Maggie, to send him their CVs and quickly arrange temporary replacements, emphasizing strict office access. News of the mass resignations spreads, leading to the cancellation of all scheduled job interviews, including Lin Lu's. Lin Lu is distraught, pouring out her frustration to her childhood friend, Liang Zhi, over the phone.
She emphasizes how important the job at Huanzhen is to her family's financial needs and her dream of working alongside famous makeup artist Kevin. Liang Zhi tries to comfort her, suggesting Huanzhen's current troubles might make it a difficult place to work and offers to help her find a position at the Sally Group, but Lin Lu insists on Huanzhen. While expressing her disappointment at Huanzhen, Lin Lu unexpectedly encounters Fang Qiao.
Fang Qiao, seeing Lin Lu's passion for the job, offers her a chance. Fang Qiao reveals she happens to need a makeup artist for an upcoming photoshoot and invites Lin Lu to assist. Lin Lu eagerly agrees and skillfully applies makeup for Fang Qiao's photoshoot as the new endorser for Huanzhen's "Cinderella" products. Impressed by Lin Lu's talent and charming demeanor during the shoot, Fang Qiao immediately hires her, telling Lin Lu she can start working at Huanzhen tomorrow.
Lin Lu, overjoyed, makes calls to Jingjing, Liang Zhi, and her mother, excitedly sharing the good news that she's been hired by Huanzhen's future hostess and will officially start work the next day. To celebrate her new job and express her joy, Lin Lu visits the beach, her "secret base," talking to the stones and shells about her multiple part-time jobs and her new full-time position, enthusiastically exclaiming her desire to make money.
Her celebration is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Shi Liansen, who also considers the beach his private space. Their playful argument over who discovered the spot first escalates, with Lin Lu accusing him of being a bully. During this interaction, Lin Lu, caught in her excitement, gives Shi Liansen a spontaneous hug. Unbeknownst to them, their interaction is secretly photographed, sparking a scandal.
Episode 2 Recap
Huanzhen Group found itself in a precarious situation, with its financial stability heavily dependent on the Fang family. Fang Qiao openly discussed this with Shi Liansen, stating that their arranged marriage was merely a facade crafted by their parents and she had no intention of sacrificing her marriage or taking advantage of him to bail out Huanzhen. Shi Liansen acknowledged that he felt controlled by the company's seniors and desired the freedom of decision-making.
Suddenly, news broke, reporting that Huanzhen's young president, Shi Liansen, had been seen intimately with a woman at the beach. The media speculated that this woman was his true love, despite his pending engagement to Fang Qiao. This scandal caused Huanzhen's stock to plummet, enraging Shi Liansen's father. He angrily confronted Shi Liansen, accusing him of deliberately creating the rumor to avoid his marriage to Fang Qiao.
His father demanded that he swiftly resolve the situation and make Fang Qiao happy. Shi Liansen denied that he would risk the company's stability by orchestrating such a rumor and expressed his disregard for Fang Qiao's happiness. Fang Qiao suspected that the rival Sally Group was behind the leaked photos. Instead of reacting with anger, she offered to help mitigate the damage, presenting Shi Liansen with photos of Lin Lu that she had taken for a new product poster.
She explained she found Lin Lu charming and talented in makeup, having even hired her for Huanzhen. Fang Qiao suggested using these images to counter the negative publicity. Shi Liansen initially seemed dismissive. However, after his assistant Maggie had earlier confirmed that Lin Lu was not the source of the leak, Shi Liansen instructed Maggie to prepare an employment letter for Lin Lu.
Later, his friend pointed out that online fans were already referring to Shi Liansen and Lin Lu's story as a modern-day Cinderella fairy tale. This sparked a new idea for Shi Liansen, who, seeing the potential benefits of the scandal, then instructed Maggie to prepare a brand ambassador contract for Lin Lu for Huanzhen's new "Cinderella" series, intending to market their relationship to the public as a modern-day Cinderella fairy tale.
Meanwhile, unaware of the developing scandal, Lin Lu happily arrived for her first day at the Huanzhen counter, believing she had been hired thanks to Fang Qiao. Soon after, Maggie approached her, offering compensation from President Shi for the bicycle he had damaged. Maggie then showed Lin Lu the scandalous news report, revealing Shi Liansen's identity as the company president and their unexpected involvement in a public scandal, casting Lin Lu as "the other woman."
Lin Lu panicked, fearing immediate termination. She desperately pleaded with Maggie, explaining that she had only met Shi Liansen a few times and needed her job to support her family. Maggie reassured her that they would handle the situation. Later, Lin Lu received a phone call from Xia City Hospital, informing her that a kidney was available for Lin Cheng and that she and her family should prepare for the costly operation.
Maggie then summoned Lin Lu to Shi Liansen's office. Still distraught and fearing the worst, Lin Lu profusely apologized for any inconvenience and tried to explain the misunderstandings, begging him not to fire her. To her immense surprise, Shi Liansen presented her with a "Brand Ambassador Contract" for Huanzhen's new "Cinderella" series.
Lin Lu was overjoyed, agreeing to the three-year contract for 100,000 yuan, a sum she later realized from her friend Jingjing was a significant undervaluation for a brand ambassador of a top company. Lin Lu was particularly relieved to learn she could continue working at the counter, as she was not fond of high heels or constant red-carpet appearances. Shi Liansen, finding Lin Lu's candid and spirited nature intriguing, remarked that he enjoyed dealing with "loggerheads." His strategy proved highly successful. The "Cinderella" series, with Lin Lu as its ambassador, quickly became a bestseller across all Huanzhen stores, with sales far exceeding initial expectations.
Episode 3 Recap
Lin Lu was desperate to gather 500,000 yuan for her brother Lin Cheng's life-saving kidney transplant, taking on various strenuous jobs to earn money. She was introduced as a new makeup artist at Huanzhen, where she inquired about her salary, suggesting 100,000 yuan. Later, Shi Liansen instructed his staff to arrange items thoughtfully for customer perception.
Fang Qiao discussed her situation with Yan Zichen, questioning why Shi Liansen hadn't chosen her to be the brand ambassador if he saw her as Venus. Yan Zichen explained that Fang Qiao was "too perfect" for the Cinderella series, which aimed to appeal to ordinary people. He suggested that Lin Lu, being "poor and ordinary," was the ideal "Cinderella" figure whose "friendliness" would help customers relate and drive sales.
Fang Qiao accepted that Shi Liansen's decision was purely for sales, not personal dislike. Yan Zichen playfully tried to get Fang Qiao to feed him cake, further complimenting her friendliness. Fang Qiao then affirmed her impending engagement with Shi Liansen. Meanwhile, Shi Liansen's father angrily confronted him about using an "alleged girlfriend" for the new product's marketing.
Shi Liansen assured him that sales would not disappoint the board, but his father insisted on the engagement to Fang Qiao, reminding Shi Liansen of his paternal authority in business matters. Lin Lu received an urgent call from Xia City Hospital: a matching kidney had been found for Lin Cheng. The transplant needed to occur within 24 hours of the kidney's removal, requiring a full payment of 500,000 yuan by next Monday. Lin Lu promised to secure the funds.
She calculated her current savings, noting 100,000 yuan from Mr. Liang, 100,000 yuan from her work as a brand ambassador, and 3,000 yuan from Jingjing. She still needed 277,000. 84 yuan. Though she considered advancing her payment from an upcoming shoot, the tight deadline meant she had to find the money by Monday. Her friend, Liang, encouraged her, calling it good news and assuring her he would help with the money, prompting Lin Lu to decide to borrow more.
A report from the Marketing Department showed that the rumor surrounding Shi Liansen and Lin Lu had caused Huanzhen's Weibo followers to surge by two million, with 70% supporting their rumored affair. These fans, aged 16 to 25, were precisely the target demographic for the Cinderella series. While the original marketing plan aimed to leverage this affair, Shi Liansen's announced engagement to Fang Qiao meant a new strategy might be needed. Lin Lu desperately sought out various odd jobs.
She was seen cleaning cars for 20 yuan, promising a "brand new" look. She also made multiple phone calls to relatives—Aunt Mary, Aunt Laura, Uncle John, Aunt Lily, Uncle Bob, Aunt Amy—but was met with rejections, leaving her still short of funds. She tried to remain optimistic, convincing herself she still had time to find the money. Yan Zichen visited Shi Liansen, finding him in a minimally decorated house.
Yan Zichen jokingly suggested Shi Liansen move to a more furnished house nearby to play online games, but Shi Liansen replied he didn't like "fun." Yan Zichen then directly asked if Shi Liansen had a crush on him, which Shi Liansen denied. Shi Liansen reiterated his refusal to marry Fang Qiao, despite the public engagement announcement.
Yan Zichen pointed out that Fang Qiao would do everything to make it happen, and even admitted that Shi Liansen and Fang Qiao were a good match. Shi Liansen then cryptically stated that Yan Zichen was the reason he wouldn't marry her, prompting a teasing response from Yan Zichen about Shi Liansen being in love with him. Lin Lu saw a recruitment advertisement for a waitress at a nightclub, offering good daily pay and commission.
She called and spoke to the manager, who she later realized was the person she was speaking to in person. The manager clarified that the job involved selling liquor, not one's body, and offered a 10% commission—selling 100 bottles could yield 100,000 yuan in a single night. Desperate for money, Lin Lu accepted. The manager advised her to add stitches to her revealing outfit and directed her to a room with "old men" who would appreciate "naïve girls."
At the nightclub, Lin Lu approached a table to sell liquor. However, the male patrons insisted she sit and drink with them. Lin Lu declined, explaining she was only a salesperson, but they refused to let her leave without drinking. They mocked her, calling her the "discarded mistress of Huanzhen's president" and dismissing her denials of any relation to Shi Liansen. They demanded she drink, promising to buy more liquor for each drink she took.
When she refused, one man aggressively poured liquor over her. At that moment, Shi Liansen appeared and pushed the man away, shielding Lin Lu. After the incident, Lin Lu felt a surprising attraction to Shi Liansen, despite his awkwardness. Shi Liansen asked if Lin Lu would now keep her promise, referring to signing the relationship contract. Lin Lu agreed. Attempting to lighten the mood, Lin Lu declared she wanted hotpot, and they went to a restaurant.
At the restaurant, Shi Liansen ordered his "usual," and a waiter commented on his "mysophobia." Lin Lu teased Shi Liansen about his apparent discomfort, encouraging him to try everything as it was delicious and he would get used to it, wondering if he found her ridiculous. Shi Liansen, perhaps trying to make amends for his earlier harsh words, offered to order something else for her or even offered her some of his food, which she declined.
He then told her to forget what he had said that morning. Lin Lu received another call from the hospital, reminding her that Lin Cheng's kidney would be removed that weekend, and the operation needed to be done within 24 hours. She reiterated her urgent need for 500,000 yuan by tomorrow. Shi Liansen asked if she had any more questions about the contract.
Lin Lu then inquired about the duration of their relationship contract, suggesting 15 days, one month, or 100 days. Shi Liansen agreed to 100 days. With no further questions, Shi Liansen instructed her to come to his office at 8 AM the next day to sign the contract. The next day, Lin Lu signed the relationship contract, noting that it was a "good package" that even covered social security.
She then enthusiastically assured Shi Liansen that she could act "sexy, elegant, or feisty" to make him happy, promising a good performance. Shi Liansen acknowledged this, stating he looked forward to it.
Episode 4 Recap
Driven by desperation to raise 500,000 yuan for her brother's life-saving surgery, Lin Lu took on various demanding jobs. She had faced a scandal from being photographed while selling drinks, which paradoxically boosted social media followers for Shi Liansen's company, leading him to delay his engagement to Fang Qiao for marketing purposes. Shi Liansen, having learned the true reasons behind Lin Lu's desperate efforts after an investigation, and after saving her from harassment, eventually changed his perception of her.
It was in this context that Shi Liansen approached Lin Lu with an offer: if she truly needed money, he required a nominal girlfriend. Lin Lu, initially furious and even angered by his audacity, eventually agreed to sign a relationship contract. Later, feeling exhausted from reviewing the extensive contract, she was caught off guard when Shi Liansen tested her on its clauses, revealing she hadn't fully memorized the details.
He then informed her they were going somewhere she needed to be, without further explanation. Shi Liansen took Lin Lu to an engagement banquet. As Fang Qiao delivered a heartfelt speech about the union of the Fang and Shi families, Lin Lu realized with dismay that this was Shi Liansen's engagement party. She wanted to leave, but Shi Liansen reminded her of the contract's penalties.
He instructed her that her first mission was to put on a show with him, warning her of consequences if she failed. Believing she was merely playing a role, Lin Lu assured him she was a good actress and not nervous. Guests at the party whispered about Shi Liansen bringing his "brand ambassador" to his engagement, deeming it indecent. Fang Qiao, attempting to defuse the tension, approached Shi Liansen, suggesting they discuss any issues privately.
However, Shi Liansen publicly declared Lin Lu his girlfriend, shocking everyone. As Fang Qiao's father tried to play it off as a joke, Shi Liansen suddenly kissed Lin Lu, then swiftly led her away, leaving the entire hall in an uproar. Yan Zichen was seen comforting a distraught Fang Qiao. Later, Lin Lu angrily confronted Shi Liansen, furious that he had stolen her first kiss and made her appear to be a homewrecker.
She expressed her disappointment, having saved her first kiss for someone she loved. Shi Liansen dismissed her feelings, citing an "emergency" clause in their contract and offering compensation. Enraged, Lin Lu demanded to cancel the contract, but Shi Liansen refused. When Lin Lu attempted to explain the misunderstanding to Fang Qiao, she hesitated, caught between wanting to reveal the truth and fearing the contract's hefty penalty for disclosure, which manifested as a thought of 'penalty' in her mind.
Shi Liansen, arriving at that moment, stopped Lin Lu from speaking, stating that the cooperation between his and Fang Qiao's families might be terminated soon due to her efforts. Fang Qiao remarked that Lin Lu was "cute" but "a bit chatty." Shi Liansen then warned Lin Lu against trying to cancel the contract, explaining that according to Article 14, only Party A (him) could agree to its termination.
Lin Lu, still unhappy with his actions, tried to impose new clauses, demanding no physical contact whatsoever—no kissing, hand-holding, hugging, or even shoulder-holding. Shi Liansen, in turn, reiterated the existing confidentiality clause, emphasizing a six-times penalty for any breach. Lin Lu, flustered by the large sum, tried to negotiate it down, but Shi Liansen quickly sealed the "six times" amount. She begrudgingly promised not to reveal the contract's existence to anyone.
Soon after, Lin Lu's friend, Shen Jing, and her mother confronted her, excited about the headlines she and Shi Liansen had made. Her mother, proud of Lin Lu, pressed her for details about her relationship. Lin Lu, bound by the contract, could only repeat, "I won't speak of it to a soul." Shi Liansen, messaging her, advised her to "make up a story."
Lin Lu then fabricated an elaborate tale for her mother and Shen Jing about meeting Shi Liansen in an online game where he was the top player and she was an abandoned newcomer. Their in-game romance blossomed, eventually leading to a real-life connection where he was a cool company president and she a humble makeup artist. She even suggested naming their story "Me Before You" or "Gossip Girl." Shi Liansen's father then summoned Lin Lu for a private talk.
Lin Lu, remembering Shi Liansen's advice to 'make up a story,' began to recount her fantastical online romance to his father. His father listened with a bewildered expression, seemingly outsmarted by Lin Lu's narrative. When asked about her dreams, Lin Lu candidly replied "making money" and "counting money," directly admitting she dated his son for his wealth.
Shi Liansen arrived just as she was making this admission, joking about her "perfect love story" but also noting her abrupt shift to discussing money. He came to pick up Lin Lu, who then requested food and wine. At a restaurant, Lin Lu became heavily intoxicated. She drunkenly confided to Shi Liansen, who was silently listening, and even vomited on him, that she was merely a "nominal girlfriend" and that their relationship was strictly professional, between an "employer and employee."
She complained about his "poker face" and questioned what Fang Qiao saw in him, even speculating if he might be gay. She then spoke to Shi Liansen, seemingly mistaking him for someone else or a reflection, warning "beauty" to stay away from Shi Liansen because he was a "jerk" who "kissed me the other day" and "might take advantage of you."
Deciding to end her drunken ramblings, Shi Liansen asked where she lived, to which she slurred, "I live in your heart." He then carried her back to his villa for the night. The next morning, Lin Lu awoke in an unfamiliar room, disoriented and wondering if she had been kidnapped. Gradually, fragments of the previous night surfaced, and she remembered having been carried back by Shi Liansen.
She instinctively reached for a hug, thinking she was with Shen Jing, only to realize with horror that she was hugging Shi Liansen. Mortified, Lin Lu chastised herself for "flirting" with him, as Shi Liansen stood at the door, observing her reaction.
Episode 5 Recap
Lin Lu visited her brother, Lin Cheng, in the hospital. Lin Cheng, having seen news about her and Shi Liansen online, immediately asked if the rumors were true. Lin Lu denied doing anything inappropriate for money, asserting her integrity. However, Lin Cheng insisted on meeting her "boyfriend" and feigned escalating aches and pains until Lin Lu reluctantly agreed to have Shi Liansen visit him the next day.
Lin Lu then repeatedly tried to convince Shi Liansen to play the role of her boyfriend for her brother. She even presented him with a formal written "application," humorously pleading her case by referencing their contract and exaggerating the consequences if her brother wasn't appeased. Shi Liansen, however, remained unmoved, haughtily refusing and reminding her of the substantial liquidated damages clause in their contract.
Later, Shi Liansen reviewed market data and public reactions, noting that the news of his supposed relationship with Lin Lu had significantly boosted his company's fan base and market attention for his brand. Meanwhile, Fang Qiao expressed her disbelief that Shi Liansen had truly fallen for Lin Lu. She asserted that their twenty-year acquaintance far outweighed Shi Liansen's few days with Lin Lu, convinced there was something amiss.
Determined to win him back, she visited Shi Liansen at his office and declared her intention to pursue him, regardless of whether his relationship with Lin Lu was an excuse to avoid marrying her or a genuine infatuation. She arranged to wait for him the next afternoon at Huixin theatre. When Shi Liansen didn't show, Fang Qiao continued her dramatic rehearsal, calling out to him repeatedly. Yan Zichen arrived and tried to console her, offering his unwavering support.
That night, Fang Qiao, heavily intoxicated, appeared at Shi Liansen's home. She became very forward, trying to force intimacy and insisting that only she was worthy of being his girlfriend, capable of giving him everything Lin Lu could and more. Unable to handle the situation alone, Shi Liansen called Yan Zichen to come and pick her up.
He then immediately called Lin Lu, demanding she come to his home within five minutes or face a massive penalty of three million yuan in liquidated damages. Lin Lu, fuming at Shi Liansen's imperious command, rushed out, bumping into Liang Zhi on her way. This unexpected collision was secretly photographed. Upon arriving at Shi Liansen's villa, she was surprised to find Yan Zichen already there, dressed smartly.
She overheard Yan Zichen greeting Shi Liansen as "Sen," and Shi Liansen replying with "Chen." Lin Lu, misinterpreting the situation, immediately concluded that Shi Liansen and Yan Zichen were a couple. She awkwardly tried to mediate between them, advising Yan Zichen to let "the couple" work out their quarrels themselves and not to interfere.
Fang Qiao's drunken calls for "Liansen" from inside the house further confused Lin Lu, making her believe Shi Liansen was entangled in a love triangle with both Yan Zichen and Fang Qiao. Lin Lu, feeling uncomfortable as a straight woman in what she perceived to be a gay couple's argument, tried to excuse herself. Shi Liansen questioned her assumption about his preference, but she remained convinced he didn't like women.
The following morning, Lin Lu arrived at Shi Liansen's house, expecting him to terminate their contract. She had mentally prepared herself to cooperate unconditionally, even expressing a willingness to compensate him for his "losses." To her utter surprise, Shi Liansen had a different agenda. He proposed a set of new terms for their arrangement, including mutual respect for privacy and boundaries within the house. His final condition was that Lin Lu move in immediately.
Realizing her profound misunderstanding, Lin Lu was taken aback by the cohabitation proposal. She questioned why they should live together if they weren't a real couple, but Shi Liansen calmly explained that living together was a necessary part of their contractual obligation to avoid suspicion and convincingly portray themselves as a couple.
Episode 6 Recap
To definitively distance himself from Fang Qiao, Shi Liansen informed Lin Lu that they needed to live together and officially announce their relationship. Lin Lu firmly refused, stating they were not a real couple and that her conservative mother would be furious, threatening to break both their legs if she found out. Shi Liansen, undeterred, pressed the issue at Lin Lu's home, insisting that visiting his "girlfriend's" relatives was normal.
Lin Lu continued to remind him their relationship was fake, reiterating her mother's potential wrath. After some deliberation, Lin Lu told him she needed time to consider living together, but Shi Liansen reminded her of her brand ambassador obligations. Lin Lu, still suspicious, agreed. During this time, Fang Qiao, still determined to win Shi Liansen back, had conversations with others about him, asserting that she could offer him more than Lin Lu ever could.
Shi Liansen then began to harass Lin Lu to coerce her into moving in. He ordered her to work overtime with him, despite her protests about the contract, leading her to internally curse him as an "evil capitalist" and "exploiter." He made her prepare coffee, then rejected it for water, which she intentionally spilled on him, apologizing insincerely while offering to clean it. He also woke her from sleep by splashing water on her to "refresh" her.
After a long day, he called her on her phone, telling her he was downstairs and warning her of consequences if she didn't come down. She begrudgingly got into his car, realizing he was using the threat of liquidated damages again. She continued to resist, even as he brushed her hair while she slept, but upon waking, she recognized his tactic, still adamantly refusing to live with him.
Shi Liansen then showed Lin Lu compromising photos of her and Liang Zhi. He warned her that if these "stealthies" of her living in another man's house were to surface and expose their contract, it would lead to accusations of her cheating on him, poor product sales, and substantial losses for Huanzhen. He reminded her that by signing the contract, she could no longer live like a common person.
Lin Lu, shocked by the situation and his claim that she would be responsible for "Ten billion" in damages, instantly capitulated. Following the ultimatum, Lin Lu immediately returned to pack her belongings. Her housemate, Liang Zhi, expressed his reluctance to see her go, telling her he would always be there if she missed him and promising to avenge her if she were ever bullied.
Conversely, Shen Jing, while verbally expressing reluctance, was secretly delighted, pushing Lin Lu to leave quickly and congratulating her on this "key step" towards becoming a "princess" with an impending wedding. Shen Jing also handled a phone call, mentioning prepared documents and needing someone found, suggesting she was involved in her own schemes. Having moved into Shi Liansen's mansion, Lin Lu immediately recognized his mysophobia and obsessive-compulsive tendencies, openly mocking his taste in movies.
Deciding to provoke him, she deliberately scattered her belongings around the house, claiming there was a "hidden order" only she understood, and loudly sang off-key, performing a song about a "little dolphin" and "how close we were to love." Shi Liansen, visibly annoyed, gave her only three minutes to clean up and then showed her a sleeping bag for her accommodations, implying she was "smelly" and needed to clean herself.
Later, while taking a bath in the large bathtub, Lin Lu accidentally began to drown and cried out for help. In a moment of panic, Shi Liansen rushed in, pushed open the bathroom door, and asked if she was alright. He then quickly requested a bath towel. Meanwhile, Fang Qiao, still grappling with her feelings, discussed her strategy with a companion by the sea.
Her companion noted that the more Fang Qiao pursued Shi Liansen, the more intimate he seemed to become with Lin Lu. The companion advised Fang Qiao to step back for a while and suggested a trip to Turkey, Tokyo, and Paris. Fang Qiao, however, remained determined, stating that she would eventually make Shi Liansen realize that what she could offer him was far more than he could imagine.
Episode 7 Recap
Lin Lu and Shi Liansen's relationship was gradually improving, though unbeknownst to them, Sally's CEO continued to monitor their activities. After being rescued by Shi Liansen in his bathroom, Lin Lu was still wet when he insisted she clean herself thoroughly. Her presence seemed to disturb his meticulously clean environment, and he abruptly told her to leave.
The next morning, Lin Lu observed Shi Liansen's simple breakfast of vegetables and offered to prepare something more nutritious, like eggs, as a partial payment for her debt to him. Shi Liansen, however, told her to mind her own business. When she tried to share her mother's homemade fermented bean curd, he rejected it outright, stating that "smelly things" were not allowed in his house.
Later, Shi Liansen called his assistant, Maggie, to have the house thoroughly cleaned, excluding his personal rooms. To express her gratitude for his recent rescue in the bathroom, and also seeing an opportunity to save him money and improve her standing, Lin Lu enthusiastically volunteered to clean the house herself, promising to "turn over a new leaf." Shi Liansen agreed, setting a deadline for her to finish before he returned from work.
Meanwhile, Fang Qiao met with Shi Liansen, presenting a proposal to make the "Cinderella" brand independent from Huanzhen. Shi Liansen firmly declined, stating he did not wish to separate it. Fang Qiao, undeterred, expressed her conviction that he would eventually fall in love with her, asserting that her pursuit was not immoral as long as he and Lin Lu were not engaged. She declared she could offer him everything Lin Lu could, and more.
Shi Liansen, however, explicitly told her not to waste her time on him. At the office, Fang Qiao overheard staff gossiping about her and Lin Lu. While they acknowledged Fang Qiao's strong background, they admired Lin Lu's transformation into a "princess" from an ordinary girl. The staff concluded that powerful men like Shi Liansen preferred "innocent girls" like Lin Lu, as it gave them a sense of satisfaction in taking care of them, contrasting with Fang Qiao's "bossy" demeanor.
They also spread a rumor that Lin Lu and Shi Liansen had fallen in love at a spicy hot pot shop. Taking this to heart, Fang Qiao decided to adapt her approach. She later visited a stylist, Tony, and requested a haircut identical to Lin Lu's. Fang Qiao then dragged Yan Zichen to a spicy hot pot restaurant, determined to try what Lin Lu enjoyed.
Yan Zichen, however, advised her against imitating Lin Lu, telling her that she was unique and shouldn't force herself to like things that didn't suit her. Despite this, Fang Qiao insisted on trying the dish. When she struggled with the flavors, Yan Zichen confessed he had deliberately added ingredients she disliked, such as green onions and garlic, to emphasize his point.
He argued that forcing herself to eat spicy hot pot wouldn't make her Lin Lu, and that true happiness comes from being oneself. Realizing his words held truth, Fang Qiao abandoned the meal, admitting spicy hot pot did not suit her. Yan Zichen, observing her, saw an opportunity to pursue Fang Qiao now that her romantic prospects with Shi Liansen seemed to dim. Lin Lu, meanwhile, meticulously cleaned Shi Liansen's house.
As part of her cleaning spree, she noticed Shi Liansen's beloved plush bear was "smelly" and decided to wash it. Upon his return, Shi Liansen was furious to find his bear cleaned. He angrily confronted Lin Lu, asking who gave her permission to touch his belongings and dismissing her apology as insufficient for the disturbance she caused. Lin Lu, upset by his harsh words, promised to buy him a new one.
Later that night, Lin Lu tried to ask Shi Liansen for the bear's brand so she could replace it, but he simply told her to leave so he could sleep. She noticed he preferred to sleep with the lights on and called him a "freak." Unknown to Lin Lu, Shi Liansen's insomnia was triggered by the absence of his bear. The next day, Lin Lu visited Master Liang, seeking help to find a replacement for Shi Liansen's bear.
Master Liang asked if she was unhappy living with Shi Liansen, which she denied. After checking a high-end toy store where custom bears were prohibitively expensive, Lin Lu went to a street stall and successfully haggled for a large plush bear at a much lower price, believing this would compensate for the original. Unbeknownst to Lin Lu and Shi Liansen, someone had ordered an investigation into Shi Liansen's activities, particularly his work at Huanzhen Group.
Separately, Fang Qiao spoke to her father on the phone, revealing a new plan to deliver a significant blow to Huanzhen. Her father, initially hesitant, eventually approved and offered her money for travel, which she eagerly accepted. Returning home with the new bear, which she affectionately named "Xiong’er" (Little Bear) to accompany Shi Liansen's original "Xiongda" (Big Bear), Lin Lu presented it as her compensation. Shi Liansen simply acknowledged her, his expression cold.
His insomnia continued, causing him to behave erratically, turning lights on and off at night and demanding coffee from Lin Lu. He repeatedly tried to make her admit to a "mistake" without specifying what it was, until finally sending her downstairs, leaving Lin Lu frustrated with his "fussy" and "hot and cold" demeanor. Lin Lu later learned from Maggie that Shi Liansen's recent mood swings and difficult behavior were due to a recurrence of his insomnia.
Concerned, Lin Lu discussed the matter with her friends. She jokingly complained that Shi Liansen's habit of sleeping with the lights on was giving "her" insomnia. Her friends offered her their mother's insomnia prescription and reassured her that their home was always a refuge if she felt "bullied." Determined to help, Lin Lu prepared a traditional "Organ Therapy" concoction made from pig hearts, Chinese pepper, and lard, insisting Shi Liansen drink it hot as a folk remedy. Shi Liansen, disgusted by the smell and ingredients, refused, but Lin Lu persisted, pushing him to take the unpleasant medicine.
Episode 8 Recap
Lin Lu persisted in her efforts to make Shi Liansen consume the organ soup, even claiming it was delicious and urging him to have more. He, however, quickly declared himself done. She pleaded with him, "Your Majesty! Please drink it. If you don’t sleep, I can’t, either!" The following morning, Lin Lu awoke in a state of confusion, wondering if Shi Liansen had slept with her.
She then confronted him, accusing him of having an "evil intention" in asking her to live with him and reminding him she had told him not to enter her room. Shi Liansen, for his part, instructed his assistant, Maggie, to change and disinfect all the bedding in his room. Lin Lu was outraged by his actions, interpreting them as disdain after they had slept together. Shi Liansen simply wondered what she was constantly thinking about.
Shi Liansen later discussed his insomnia with his doctor, who noted that his relapse seemed to be externally triggered and implied something unplanned had unsettled him. Shi Liansen confirmed that after his plush bear, which previously aided his sleep, was cleaned, it lost its familiarity, leaving him unable to sleep without it. The doctor reiterated that Shi Liansen's insomnia stemmed from an internal unease and a lack of security due to his mother's sudden death during his childhood.
He explained that the bear, his mother's last gift, served as an emotional pillar but could not fundamentally resolve his underlying issue. Shi Liansen, seeking only temporary relief, agreed to psychotherapy eventually, but not immediately due to his demanding schedule. He then revealed his confusion about a recent event related to sleeping, admitting he had fallen asleep once without the bear.
He recounted how Lin Lu, whom he referred to as his "crazy woman" girlfriend, had made him an organ soup to help him sleep. To his surprise, after she fell asleep lying on him, he also fell asleep and slept through the night. The doctor enthusiastically declared, "She is your breakthrough!" Driven by the doctor's suggestion, Shi Liansen decided to test Lin Lu’s effect on his insomnia.
Earlier, Lin Lu had taken it upon herself to redecorate his home, transforming it into a "comfortable house" that she believed would guarantee a good night's sleep, enthusiastically asking for payment for her efforts. However, Shi Liansen had ordered Maggie to revert the house to its original state. Despite his internal reluctance and calling Lin Lu "crazy," Shi Liansen, following the doctor's advice, decided to try sleeping with her again.
This attempt was unsuccessful, as Lin Lu, while asleep, physically repelled him, kicking and punching him away. Meanwhile, Fang Qiao visited Lin Lu, ostensibly to learn about her preferences in an attempt to win back Shi Liansen. Lin Lu, mentioning a stomach ache, let Fang Qiao in. Fang Qiao complimented Lin Lu's hairstyle and clothes, noting their similarity to her own style.
Lin Lu, eager to share, showed off her bargain purchases from online shopping festivals, explaining she had bought several items for very low prices. During their conversation, Lin Lu took a call about throwing away "pig heart soup," likely referring to the organ soup from earlier. Fang Qiao then inquired about Lin Lu's favorite foods. Lin Lu enthusiastically listed Spicy Hot Pot, Barbecue, and milk tea.
Fang Qiao immediately offered to take her out for Spicy Hot Pot, describing it as the most delicious food when prepared with various condiments. Lin Lu, however, had to leave, and Fang Qiao was left pondering the true purpose of her visit. Shi Liansen later informed Lin Lu that his father's birthday banquet was approaching and she, as the qualified brand ambassador of Huanzhen, needed to attend.
Lin Lu initially resisted, stating it was none of her business, but Shi Liansen insisted. To prepare her, he arranged comprehensive etiquette training, which included wine tasting lessons. Lin Lu struggled to remember the instructions for judging wine, comically mispronouncing "Romanée-Conti" as "Roman Conti" and linking it to antibodies. She also called a friend, Jing, for advice on what creative and meaningful gift to get for Shi Liansen's father, rejecting common gifts like a thermos or footbath.
At Shi Liansen's father's birthday banquet, guests expressed concern when Shi Liansen and Lin Lu were late, but they eventually arrived. Shi Liansen advised Lin Lu to remain calm and smile, which she claimed she was already doing. Shi Liansen's father toasted his guests, followed by Yan Zichen and Fang Qiao offering flattering birthday wishes and expensive gifts, including a million-yuan bottle of wine and a rare golf club.
Shi Liansen presented his father with Cinderella's financial report, showcasing its impressive profits, which even surprised Lin Lu, who internally noted how rich her boss was. When it was Lin Lu's turn, she confidently began a "bamboo clappers chant" as her gift. Despite initial confusion from guests, Shi Liansen's father allowed her to continue. Lin Lu's chant humorously summarized the event, referencing the expensive gifts and Shi Liansen's business success, ending by declaring her performance a joyful birthday gift.
Shi Liansen praised her performance, to which Lin Lu proudly stated it was her family's signature skill. However, Shi Liansen's father openly disparaged her, calling her "from an ordinary family" and "unpresentable." Shi Liansen defended Lin Lu, stating, "I’m presentable. That’s enough. All she has to do is to be happy," and then excused them from the banquet.
After the banquet, Lin Lu commented on the rich people's incomprehensible liking for wine and its many rules, stating her preference for beer. Shi Liansen thanked her for "standing by him" at the banquet. Lin Lu dismissed his gratitude, saying she just had something important to go home for. Shi Liansen then advised her not to take his father's words to heart.
Lin Lu shared an anecdote about her own father, explaining that old people are like "old children" who need tending, suggesting Shi Liansen should try to beg for his father's forgiveness as she used to do with hers. Shi Liansen, claiming to be tipsy, ended the conversation and went to bed.
Later, Lin Lu reflected on the events, reiterating her clapper chant and expressing frustration with Shi Liansen's father's "hierarchical differentiation," vowing to create her own world through diligence, motivated by the 100,000 yuan prize for a make-up contest nomination. She concluded that "being knocked off by money is terrific."
Episode 9 Recap
To facilitate her efforts to imitate Lin Lu, Fang Qiao moved her home to Shi Liansen's neighborhood. One morning, Yan Zichen found Fang Qiao outside, shocked that she was really moving in next to Shi Liansen's house. Fang Qiao confirmed she had moved in the previous night, specifying that they lived on the same street, practically next door to Shi Liansen.
Later that day, Fang Qiao and Yan Zichen visited Shi Liansen's home, where Fang Qiao excitedly announced to Lin Lu that they were now neighbors. Lin Lu, unaware of Fang Qiao's true intentions, expressed delight at having a new friend nearby. Yan Zichen, however, felt overlooked, questioning why people would follow others instead of acknowledging him. When Shi Liansen returned home, he observed Lin Lu and Fang Qiao interacting.
He deliberately showed affection towards Lin Lu, asking her to put down her phone and expressing concern for her eyes. Lin Lu was surprised by his sudden attentiveness. Fang Qiao, ignoring Yan Zichen’s obvious displeasure, proposed a housewarming hot pot party. Shi Liansen covertly instructed Lin Lu to "cooperate a little."
When Lin Lu eagerly offered to buy hot pot ingredients, Shi Liansen quickly interrupted, claiming Lin Lu was suffering from internal heat and her throat was not well, making hot pot unsuitable for her. Fang Qiao, undeterred, told Yan Zichen to not worry about Lin Lu's health and said they could still have the party. Yan Zichen, feeling completely ignored by Fang Qiao, stated he would not join and left in frustration.
After the hot pot incident, Shi Liansen confronted Lin Lu, accusing her of breaching their contract by almost arranging to meet Fang Qiao alone. Lin Lu defended herself, explaining she felt a strange connection with Fang Qiao, as if they had known each other for years, and promised not to reveal their secrets.
To deter Lin Lu from visiting Fang Qiao, Shi Liansen fabricated a story about Fang Qiao owning a "mean bulldog," which successfully frightened Lin Lu into agreeing not to go. Later that night, Shi Liansen discovered Lin Lu still awake in the middle of the night. Lin Lu claimed she had too much "excessive energy" to sleep and had reversed her biological clock to avoid sleepwalking and disturbing him.
Shi Liansen decided that keeping her at home was not safe, especially with Fang Qiao living nearby. He expressed concern that Lin Lu, with her perceived lack of intelligence, might inadvertently reveal their secrets if Fang Qiao pried for information. He then informed her that she would accompany him to work at Huanzhen Group as his secretary. Lin Lu protested, pointing out that Maggie was already his secretary.
Shi Liansen clarified that Maggie handled the intellectual tasks, while Lin Lu's role was to sit beside him and alleviate his worries. He assigned her the seemingly simple task of shredding "useless documents" before his meeting. Lin Lu, bored by the mundane task, found herself yearning for the energy-consuming chores of home. In her zeal to finish, she mistakenly shredded an important "Cinderella’s sales report for this month," realizing her error only after Shi Liansen inquired about it.
Later that night, a visibly drunk Yan Zichen engaged Shi Liansen in a conversation, questioning why, despite his perceived superior looks, personality, and taste in clothes, all the girls preferred Shi Liansen. He lamented that if a girl didn't like him, she wouldn't even notice his existence, regardless of what he did. Shi Liansen, growing impatient, decided it was time to leave and had his assistant Maggie bring the car around, but Yan Zichen stubbornly insisted on continuing to drink.
Shi Liansen had to physically remove him. To prevent further trouble, Shi Liansen brought Lin Lu to an afternoon client meeting with President Ma. During the meeting, Lin Lu became uncontrollably shaky, confessing her hands were moving on their own due to excessive coffee consumption. Shi Liansen, covering for her, told President Ma that his girlfriend was unwell and needed to be rushed to the hospital, abruptly ending the negotiation.
Feeling guilty about jeopardizing the deal, Lin Lu apologized to Shi Liansen and promised to reduce her coffee intake. For his birthday, she had ordered a bear costume online, but to her dismay, a pig costume was delivered instead. Deciding to make the best of it, Lin Lu, dressed in the pig costume and a birthday hat, entered Shi Liansen’s room, singing "Happy Birthday."
Shi Liansen found the costume "ugly," but Lin Lu insisted it was a "cute pig" and explained the mix-up was an apology for a previously poor-quality bear gift. Shi Liansen, though, stated he didn’t need an apology and simply wanted her to stay home and out of trouble, betraying a slight smile despite his words.
During their conversation, Lin Lu passionately declared her dream of becoming an international makeup artist, aspiring to study overseas and even mentioning a makeup competition with a significant prize. Shi Liansen initially dismissed her ambition. However, he then offered her an opportunity, arranging for her to become a makeup consultant at Huanzhen, where she would be mentored by the internationally renowned makeup master, Ms. Kevin, who had worked with many celebrities. Thrilled, Lin Lu agreed to forgo the competition.
Ms. Kevin, evaluating Lin Lu's limited experience, emphasized the need to practice on at least ten thousand people to become qualified. Shi Liansen, to help her achieve this, arranged for Lin Lu to train at the Huanzhen counter, where she enthusiastically went to find her "ten thousand people." While Lin Lu was working at the counter, a furious customer approached, displaying a severe facial rash.
The customer claimed she had bought Huanzhen products that morning and her face was "almost disfigured." Lin Lu attempted to calm her, offering water and explaining the company's after-sale services. The customer, however, escalated her complaints, demanding to see the manager and accusing Huanzhen of being an "evil brand" that exploited consumers with its new "civilian series" and "Forest Couples brand image."
Recognizing Lin Lu as the brand's "poster girl," the customer verbally attacked her, accusing her of profiting from the supposed fraud and threatening divine punishment. Despite Lin Lu's pleas for calm and reason, the customer became enraged, grabbing a cup of hot tea. Just as she was about to throw it at Lin Lu, Shi Liansen appeared and stepped in front of Lin Lu, shielding her from the hot liquid.
Episode 10 Recap
Lin Lu playfully questioned Shi Liansen about why he was awake so late, only for him to announce that he was moving into the apartment nearby, making them neighbors. Lin Lu also shared her dream of becoming an international makeup artist and studying abroad in two years. Meanwhile, at a Huanzhen counter, a company representative addressed a disgruntled customer accusing Huanzhen of selling counterfeit products that caused her skin allergy.
The representative stated that while Huanzhen would take responsibility if at fault, they reserved the right to sue for bodily harm caused to one of their staff. The customer retorted that her actions were unintentional and that Huanzhen was to blame for the counterfeit goods, leading other customers to join in, demanding refunds.
Shi Liansen, whose clothes were stained from having shielded Lin Lu during the incident, was later seen with Lin Lu, who was concerned about his expensive attire and offered to wash it. He brushed off her worries, assuring her it wasn't her fault and that the company would thoroughly investigate the counterfeit scandal. Lin Lu spent a considerable amount of time meticulously cleaning his clothes.
Afterward, Shi Liansen told her not to put herself in harm's way again, while Lin Lu insisted she was not weak. She speculated that someone might have planted the counterfeit product. The situation escalated when Shi Liansen received an urgent call, informing him that the disgruntled customer had launched a live video, condemning Huanzhen and accusing him of intimidation. He immediately called for an emergency meeting. Meanwhile, hordes of consumers besieged the Huanzhen counter, aggressively demanding refunds.
Lin Lu, surrounded by the angry crowd, received a frantic call on her phone from her mother, worried about the scandal's impact on their family. Lin Lu tried to reassure her, even as the crowd grew more unruly. Shi Liansen arrived, instructing security to protect the staff and call the police if necessary, before personally escorting a distraught Lin Lu away from the escalating chaos.
As they left, they were swarmed by reporters who questioned Lin Lu about her involvement and Shi Liansen about the "Forest Couple" rumors. Lin Lu vehemently defended Huanzhen, accusing the media of fabricating stories. Shi Liansen reassured her, telling her not to be afraid because he was there for her. Lin Lu was deeply distressed that her family might be affected by the scandal.
Shi Liansen comforted her, urging her to calm down and promising to handle everything, even calling a hospital dean to strengthen security to prevent Lin Lu's family from being disturbed. Unbeknownst to them, Shi Liansen’s own father was orchestrating the entire counterfeit scandal to undermine Huanzhen.
His accomplice congratulated him, claiming they had "killed two birds with one stone" and he ordered them to instruct reporters to write more negative stories and find additional agitators to cause trouble, aiming to halt all of Huanzhen's sales. Despite this, Shi Liansen defied his father's implied command to cut ties with Lin Lu.
He instructed his staff to inform the board that slandering Lin Lu was unnecessary to save Huanzhen's reputation, explicitly stating that Lin Lu was not just their spokesperson, but also his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Yan Zichen approached Fang Qiao, who was waiting for a bus to deliver a homemade midnight snack to Shi Liansen at Huanzhen Group, where he was working tirelessly on the counterfeit issue.
Noticing her burned hand, Yan Zichen expressed concern and confronted her about her constant efforts to imitate Lin Lu to win Shi Liansen's affection, reminding her to stay true to herself and confessing his heartache at seeing her compromise her dignity. Fang Qiao, however, defiantly declared she would become Lin Lu if that was what Shi Liansen desired. Fang Qiao later had an emotional breakdown with Yan Zichen, admitting her exhaustion and overwhelming pain from unrequited love.
She questioned why she could never be enough for Shi Liansen compared to Lin Lu, lamenting how she had sacrificed her dignity and pride, yet he remained uninterested. She tearfully recalled seeing Shi Liansen smile gently at Lin Lu, a warmth she had never experienced from him. Yan Zichen comforted her, assuring her that in his eyes, she was better than anyone else.
Fang Qiao wished she had never met Shi Liansen, to which Yan Zichen replied he wouldn't want to go back in time for fear of not meeting her. Lin Lu, at the office, observed Shi Liansen working late, reviewing surveillance footage for clues. She brought him homemade food, feeling a sense of duty as Huanzhen's spokesperson to assist him.
Later, she found him asleep and admired his features, but became intensely self-conscious about her own appearance without makeup when he stirred, repeatedly telling him not to look at her face. Overhearing colleagues discuss Huanzhen Group's possible bankruptcy, Lin Lu began calling other companies, introducing herself as a Huanzhen makeup artist and inquiring about employment opportunities for her colleagues, only to be met with repeated rejections.
She then tried to call Ms. Zhou, the customer who initiated the rumors, hoping for an opportunity to explain that Huanzhen Group does not produce counterfeit products and to apologize. Ms. Zhou refused to listen, calling Lin Lu shameless and hanging up multiple times. Distracted by these calls, Lin Lu almost stepped into the path of an oncoming car while crossing the street. Finally, Fang Qiao met Shi Liansen at a nostalgic spot from their childhood.
She reminisced about their past, recalling his consistent rejections and her own persistent pursuit. She expressed her jealousy of Lin Lu’s effortless closeness to him and the profound impact Lin Lu had on his mood. She then looked directly at him and declared that, from that moment on, she, Fang Qiao, no longer liked him, officially withdrawing her affections. Yan Zichen sadly watched her walk away.
Episode 11 Recap
Lin Lu, distracted by her thoughts, nearly walked into traffic, but Shi Liansen quickly pulled her into his arms, protecting her from danger. The close contact left them both feeling awkward yet a touch of sweetness, stirring new emotions between them. Later, Lin Lu, concerned about Shi Liansen’s recent stress, prepared a meal for him after looking up recipes online. She confessed that she also did it because of him.
Shi Liansen also questioned her about being distracted on the road and who she was talking to, then playfully promised to wait on the phone until she had crossed the road if she ever called him while crossing. Lin Lu wondered if he was flirting with her.
One evening, Shi Liansen showed Lin Lu a newly cleared storage room, which he had transformed into a small bedroom for her, claiming he was worried about his couch breaking if she continued to sleep on it. Lin Lu's heart fluttered from his unexpected kindness, leading her to question if he had feelings for her, though she quickly dismissed the idea, believing it couldn't be true. Meanwhile, Liang Zhi observed Lin Lu’s emotional shift, feeling both heartache and anger.
He expressed jealousy to Lin Lu, remarking that she had never shown such concern for him despite their decade-long friendship. Lin Lu excitedly informed Liang Zhi that the customer who had initiated the counterfeit product rumors had finally agreed to meet her and testify for Huanzhen. Liang Zhi insisted on accompanying her to the meeting.
Before the meeting, Shi Liansen received an investigation report indicating that the counterfeit products found were mainly handled by Liang Zhi and Lin Lu, and that Liang Zhi had previous contact with a person named Sally.
That same day, Fang Qiao, who had previously decided to withdraw from pursuing Shi Liansen, arranged a farewell dinner with Shi Liansen and his uncle, wanting to explore potential business cooperation between the Fang Group and Huanzhen, especially in light of the ongoing counterfeit scandal. Liang Zhi subtly led Lin Lu to the restaurant where the families were dining.
Lin Lu overheard Fang Qiao trying to secure an investment for Huanzhen and then witnessed Fang Qiao making what she perceived as intimate gestures towards Shi Liansen, including attempting to hold his arm. Misunderstanding the situation, Lin Lu was heartbroken and ran off. Later, in the car, Lin Lu was silent and upset. She reflected on whether she was truly in love with Shi Liansen, struggling with feelings of jealousy.
Shi Liansen attempted to explain his relationship with Fang Qiao, but Lin Lu, still hurt, interrupted him. She stated that as his contractual girlfriend, he didn't owe her explanations and offered to terminate their contract if he found someone he genuinely liked. The next day, Shi Liansen summoned Lin Lu to his office and informed her of a personnel transfer to the Huaxi counter. He stated it was a company decision to avoid unnecessary trouble, implying she was the cause.
Shi Liansen, frustrated from the previous evening, also accused her of being a source of trouble and causing gossip. Lin Lu resisted, questioning why she should move, bringing up Liang Zhi. Shi Liansen countered, criticizing her for calling Liang Zhi "Mr. Liang" and for their closeness, suggesting it was affecting their contractual relationship and Huanzhen's image. Lin Lu accused him of only caring about the company's benefits. Shi Liansen confirmed the transfer was his decision.
Later, Shi Liansen confronted Liang Zhi, implying his involvement in the counterfeit scandal by pointing out that the Sally Group was the main beneficiary and questioning if Liang Zhi acted to frame Huanzhen for Lin Lu's sake. Liang Zhi tried to explain, but Shi Liansen cut him off, declaring, "I don’t want to upset my girlfriend."
Episode 12 Recap
Upon seeing Lin Lu leave, Shi Liansen rushed to explain himself. Lin Lu, still upset, told him that she could manage on her own. When she asked about her sleeping bag, Shi Liansen admitted he had thrown it away and dismissively told her to sleep "there." Lin Lu, angered by his response and her earlier distress, called him a "bastard" and declared she would never speak to him again.
Later, Shi Liansen confronted Liang Zhi, ostensibly to test if he was involved in the counterfeit incident, though he also stated he did not want to upset his girlfriend. Liang Zhi, angry that Shi Liansen was using his position for personal gain, retorted that he would leave, but warned Shi Liansen not to be a hypocrite to Lin Lu. He threatened to haunt Shi Liansen if he used Lin Lu again for his own purposes.
Soon after, Shi Liansen instructed his assistant, Maggie, to release evidence against Sally online to highlight the conflict between Huanzhen and Sally, but specifically told her not to involve Liang Zhi. Meanwhile, Liang Zhi met with his father, President Li. Liang Zhi informed his father that Huanzhen was suffering and likely heading towards bankruptcy. His father, seemingly already aware, expressed confidence that Liang Zhi would have no choice but to come to him.
Liang Zhi, having been framed by his father in the counterfeit scandal, accepted an offer to join Sally, stating his intention to develop Sally and destroy Huanzhen, a goal his father shared. Lin Lu waited anxiously for Shi Liansen to return home, debating whether to go to bed or continue waiting, reminding herself that she was still angry with him.
Earlier, Fang Qiao confessed to Yan Zichen that she felt uncomfortable with his constant attention and realized she had been mean to him over the years, causing him to remain single. She told him she was leaving, but Yan Zichen insisted he would follow her wherever she went, showing his deep affection. Later, Yan Zichen was seen drinking heavily, lamenting Fang Qiao's departure.
He then attempted to formally propose to Fang Qiao with flowers but was told by his aunt that she had already gone abroad. Devastated, he confessed his long-standing love for her, spanning over two decades. At work, Lin Lu was shocked to learn from Cindy that Liang Zhi had been fired. She sought out Liang Zhi, who downplayed the news, claiming he had already intended to resign.
He reassured her, telling her not to overthink it and emphasizing that Shi Liansen would protect her at Huanzhen. He also suggested she go home and stay for several days, mentioning that Shen Jing was always talking about her. Convinced that Shi Liansen was behind Liang Zhi's firing, Lin Lu angrily confronted him, accusing him of using "company decisions" as an excuse.
She argued that if the counterfeit scandal was the reason, she, too, was responsible, and questioned why only Liang Zhi was fired. Shi Liansen dismissed her concerns, saying she believed in Liang Zhi too much and didn't understand. Lin Lu called him cold-blooded, selfish, and arrogant, uncaring of others' feelings, and declared they lived in different worlds. Shi Liansen, losing his patience, ordered her to leave.
Shortly after, Shen Jing confronted Lin Lu, criticizing her for involving Liang Zhi while dating the President. Shen Jing accused Lin Lu of "two-timing" and being greedy, wanting both Shi Liansen and Liang Zhi. Lin Lu denied having a relationship with Shi Liansen and, in her defense, revealed that their relationship was purely contractual. Liang Zhi, who was nearby, overheard this confession.
Shen Jing, feeling betrayed by Lin Lu's perceived deception over the years, angrily told Lin Lu never to contact her again. Later, Yan Zichen, devastated by Fang Qiao's departure abroad, visited Shi Liansen. He confronted Shi Liansen about Fang Qiao leaving without telling him where she went. Yan Zichen accused Shi Liansen of indifference, highlighting how much Fang Qiao had sacrificed and changed for him, pretending to like things she disliked and enduring hardships, all because she liked Shi Liansen.
He asked if Shi Liansen loved Lin Lu, but Shi Liansen insisted it was different and not to involve Lin Lu. Yan Zichen expressed deep disappointment in Shi Liansen, believing he did not understand love. Lin Lu, having just returned, overheard this entire conversation. Deeply affected by Yan Zichen's words and the recent events, Lin Lu confronted Shi Liansen. She articulated that they were like two parallel lines that only intersected because of their contract.
She stated that too many people around them had been hurt, and it was better for them to return to their separate lives. She then proposed terminating their contract. Shi Liansen appeared stunned and dejected. Shi Liansen later reflected on his actions, acknowledging that he had taken advantage of Lin Lu, putting her in the public eye and using her to create hype to help Huanzhen navigate its crisis.
Meanwhile, Liang Zhi made a heartfelt attempt to win Lin Lu over. When Lin Lu mused about romantic ideals like proposals by the Aegean Sea, finishing a marathon, or receiving 999 roses, Liang Zhi enthusiastically offered to make them happen. When Lin Lu clarified her actual romantic ideal was simpler – someone leaving her the last piece of fried chicken – Liang Zhi quickly agreed to that too.
He confessed his feelings, repeatedly telling her "I like you" and asking her to be his girlfriend. Lin Lu, however, said she needed three days to think and would agree if he passed her test. In a final encounter, Lin Lu confronted Shi Liansen, who seemed to be pondering whether they could be together again. Lin Lu responded directly, "Shi Liansen, when have we been together? I don’t want you now."
Episode 13 Recap
Feeling misunderstood after believing Shi Liansen fired Liang Zhi for personal reasons and recognizing a growing disparity between their worlds, Lin Lu decided to terminate their contract and left home. She had initially agreed to be Shi Liansen's fake girlfriend due to financial needs, a role that involved moving into his large house and even sharing a first kiss to put on a show for others.
Despite the contractual nature of their relationship, Lin Lu felt frustrated by his perceived coldness and the complexities of their arrangement, ultimately leading her to seek an end to their temporary bond. Meanwhile, Fang Qiao had disappeared, leaving Yan Zichen heartbroken. He found Shi Liansen for a drinking session, lamenting his breakup with Fang Qiao and observing Shi Liansen's seemingly blossoming relationship with Lin Lu.
Yan Zichen, heavily intoxicated, remarked on how quickly Shi Liansen and Lin Lu had moved in together, contrasting it with his own long-standing but unrequited feelings for Fang Qiao. As his distress grew, he began to suffer from a severe stomachache, and Shi Liansen rushed him to the hospital, where he was treated for stomach bleeding. Before losing consciousness, Yan Zichen tearfully asked Shi Liansen to tell Fang Qiao he loved her, to which Shi Liansen bluntly refused.
Alone and carrying her suitcase, Lin Lu stumbled upon Liang Zhi at a local mala tang shop. He recognized her and expressed his sympathy, assuring her that he still considered himself her "Master Liang." Liang Zhi revealed that he had found a new job at Sally Group, a competitor to Huanzhen, and was now driving a company car.
Noticing Lin Lu's situation, he offered her a ride, and when she mentioned picking up her brother, Lin Cheng, from the hospital the next day, Liang Zhi insisted on taking her to his home for the night so she could rest in her old room.
The next day, Lin Cheng called Lin Lu from the hospital with a fabricated story, claiming her "boyfriend" (whom Lin Cheng mistakenly believed to be Shi Liansen) had been in a car accident due to missing her and was undergoing surgery. Overcome with grief and guilt, Lin Lu rushed to the hospital, tearfully blaming herself for the supposed accident.
She burst into Yan Zichen's room, believing it was Shi Liansen, and began a dramatic outpouring of apologies and worries about his injuries. Yan Zichen, who was merely recovering from stomach bleeding and was perfectly conscious, watched her in amusement, soon revealing that it was he who was hospitalized. Shi Liansen then entered the room, having witnessed Lin Lu's emotional outburst and her subsequent embarrassment.
After this awkward encounter, Lin Lu awkwardly discussed her desire to terminate their contract with Shi Liansen, expressing that she needed to get her own life back, but Shi Liansen merely questioned if she was breaching it because of Liang Zhi and showed no willingness to let her go. Later, as Lin Lu, her mother, and Lin Cheng prepared to leave the hospital, her mother initially mistook Liang Zhi for Shi Liansen, showering him with compliments.
When the real Shi Liansen then appeared, Lin Lu's mother, after being corrected, still believed he was there to pick them up and praised him warmly, even though Lin Lu tried to clarify. Ultimately, it was Liang Zhi who drove Lin Lu's family home. Shi Liansen, observing the scene from a distance, overheard Yan Zichen's comments about the bitter feeling of seeing someone else take your place with your prospective in-laws.
This entire interaction, with Liang Zhi driving Lin Lu's family home, was secretly photographed by reporters, leading to sensational news reports. The resulting news caused a rift between Lin Lu and Shen Jing. Shen Jing angrily confronted Lin Lu, accusing her of "two-timing" by involving both Shi Liansen and Liang Zhi, and warned her that their friendship would be over if she continued.
Shen Jing also highlighted the impropriety of Lin Lu, as Huanzhen's spokesperson and Shi Liansen's supposed girlfriend, being seen with Liang Zhi, especially with the company now under public scrutiny due to the rumors. Feeling like a jinx and a source of trouble for Huanzhen, Lin Lu reiterated her intention to find an apartment and move out.
Back at the hospital, Yan Zichen, in a moment of candidness, pointedly told Shi Liansen that he was clearly in love with Lin Lu, causing Shi Liansen to internally wonder how Yan Zichen knew. Yan Zichen further teased Shi Liansen, threatening to tell Fang Qiao about his developing feelings.
The rumors surrounding Lin Lu and the impact on Huanzhen were confirmed in an office meeting at Sally Group, where the chairman praised Liang Zhi for his clever move, anticipating a boost for Sally's stock at Huanzhen's expense. Shi Liansen, too, was receiving updates on Huanzhen's sales reports, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
In a subsequent conversation, Lin Lu apologized to Shi Liansen for the negative impact of the pictures on Huanzhen, reiterating that she wanted to end their contract. Shi Liansen, however, reminded her that the contract was not yet signed and thus still binding, and firmly told her to stay away from Liang Zhi, even hinting that he could make their contractual period last a "lifetime" if she truly wanted such a commitment.
Episode 14 Recap
Shi Liansen encountered Lin Lu at Huanzhen's entrance and offered to drive her home. He casually asked her about signing a contract, to which she replied she would consider it. Upon arriving at Lin Lu's residence, they found Liang Zhi waiting. Lin Lu's mother greeted them both. As Shi Liansen prepared to leave, Liang Zhi confronted him, asserting that since he and Lin Lu had broken up, Shi Liansen should leave her alone.
Shi Liansen retorted that the decision to break up was his alone and that he liked to control others' lives, including Liang Zhi's. The following day, reporters swarmed Lin Lu, questioning her about her alleged breakup with Shi Liansen. Maggie quickly alerted Shi Liansen to the situation. Before Shi Liansen could reach Lin Lu, Liang Zhi intervened, stating that he grew up with Lin Lu and would not stand idly by while his friend was besieged by reporters.
He was then pressed by reporters about his relationship with Lin Lu and his feelings for her. Meanwhile, Maggie spoke with an upset Shi Liansen, teasing him about his gloomy expression and suggesting that Lin Lu's charm naturally attracts many suitors. She then asked about Qiaoqiao, who had not replied to her messages. Shi Liansen's father arrived, visibly agitated by a scandal and its negative impact.
Maggie presented a proposal from the PR department: to leverage the Sen-Lin CP's influence by having Shi Liansen and Lin Lu shoot a set of couple photos for "Love Beauty" magazine to counteract the plummeting stock price of Huanzhen. Shi Liansen expressed reluctance to involve Lin Lu, but his father insisted, emphasizing the critical state of Huanzhen and assuring them he would handle Lin Lu.
Shi Liansen's father later confronted Lin Lu at Huanzhen, chastising her for her conduct and image, implying she was responsible for the situation. When Lin Lu attempted to explain, he cut her off, stating that it was too late for apologies and that she should simply cooperate with Shi Liansen to resolve the crisis. Lin Lu then revealed that she and Shi Liansen had already broken up.
At this, Shi Liansen's father feigned a sudden headache and appeared frail, bemoaning his old age and lack of companionship when sick. He then made unreasonable demands, first for an apple, then an orange, complaining about its sourness and expressing confusion as to why Shi Liansen would like Lin Lu. He continued to play the victim, effectively manipulating Lin Lu into agreeing to stay and keep him company.
When Shi Liansen arrived, his father persisted with his feigned illness and lamentations, insisting that both Shi Liansen and Lin Lu remain. He then declared that due to Huanzhen's troubles, the three of them should unite, and informed them that "Love Beauty" magazine would shoot couple photos of Shi Liansen and Lin Lu that weekend. Lin Lu expressed that she felt it was improper, but Shi Liansen agreed to it.
After his father left, Lin Lu confronted Shi Liansen, questioning his agreement given their previous discussion about terminating their contract. He maintained that the contract was still valid and she was obligated to fulfill her duties for Huanzhen. When she asked if the contract would be terminated after the shoot, he simply reiterated that the photoshoot must be done. She relented, saying, "Whatever! Just a photo shoot!"
While Lin Lu was out, Liang Zhi offered to take her to see a movie, "The Avengers," and discussed a potential apartment for rent near a subway station. He offered to accompany her to view the apartment, despite her assurances that she could manage alone. Later, Shi Liansen was informed by someone that Lin Lu was not available because Liang Zhi had taken her to a movie, and that Lin Lu had been "lucky in love" recently.
Shi Liansen immediately instructed Maggie to contact the magazine and arrange for the photoshoot with Lin Lu to happen immediately, also telling Maggie to inform Liang Zhi to "Go see a movie." Consequently, Lin Lu received a call about the photoshoot, expressing surprise that it was scheduled for today instead of the weekend. She was told the director was only available now and had to leave abruptly.
Liang Zhi, understanding the situation, told the agent to find an apartment that met Lin Lu's needs and offered to cover any difference if the rent was cheaper. Before the photoshoot began, Lin Lu clearly stated to Shi Liansen that after this, they would go their separate ways, leaving the narrative of their breakup up to him.
He asked if she intended to appear before the camera looking as she did, and she responded that it was the best she could do. The photoshoot proceeded with intimate poses and staged "daily life" scenes, including Lin Lu doing housework. After the crew departed, Lin Lu expressed relief, calling the experience a "torture." Shi Liansen then secretly purchased the director's camera equipment, claiming the night view would be more beautiful, effectively continuing to document their "life before bed."
The next morning, Lin Lu awoke to find Shi Liansen beside her. He playfully teased her, questioning how they ended up in bed together. Lin Lu claimed she remembered nothing and had simply been tired. Shi Liansen insisted she "think again" and declared that she "owed him," demanding she take responsibility for him. He then presented her with a dress, calling it a "reward for yesterday's hard work," and informed her they would be going for breakfast.
They went to a mala hotpot restaurant. Lin Lu commented that she thought he disliked the place, to which he replied, "But you like here, right?" When she asked him to order for her, he insisted they had different tastes and she should order herself. However, when the owner came, Shi Liansen ordered the exact same dish as Lin Lu, adding that he would put his own seasonings as he wasn't used to heavy flavors.
While eating, Shi Liansen visibly struggled with the spiciness, sweating profusely and frequently needing water. He even tried to switch bowls with Lin Lu, who gently refused, eventually offering him water. Observing his discomfort, Lin Lu told him that he didn't have to go to such lengths. She expressed that she didn't know why he was doing it but asked him to stop, fearing it would only make it harder for her to move on.
She reminded him that their photoshoot was over, she had fulfilled her obligations, and they were from two different worlds and should live their own lives. He then asked if she was truly eager to push him away, to which she reaffirmed that they should return to their own lives. Shi Liansen's assistant later reported that the Sen-Lin CP pictures were very well received and had effectively countered the online rumors, causing Huanzhen's stock price to rise.
However, Shi Liansen instructed his assistant to contact media outlets close to them and publish news claiming that the Sen-Lin CP's breakup was real and that Huanzhen's credibility was questionable. His assistant questioned this decision, pointing out that it would again make Huanzhen the center of negative attention. Shi Liansen calmly stated that he intended to "kill two birds with one stone" by making Lin Lu feel guilty and confusing Sally.
Following this, Lin Lu was confronted about the contradictory news of her breakup with Shi Liansen after just taking couple photos. The person also mentioned the surge of negative comments about Huanzhen online, speculating that Sally was behind it, leading Lin Lu to feel guilty for causing more trouble. Meanwhile, Shi Liansen's father, who had escaped the hospital, met with Shi Liansen to offer unsolicited "secret dating tips."
He advised Shi Liansen not to be too proactive and to let women take the initiative, especially for "handsome and rich guys like us." Shi Liansen threatened to call the hospital, causing his father to leave, calling him a "piece of wood" before announcing he was going on vacation.
Episode 15 Recap
The news of the "Sen-Lin CP" (Shi Liansen and Lin Lu) allegedly breaking up and cheating spread rapidly online, sparking widespread discussion. Within Sally, opinions were divided. One Sally executive expressed her disdain for a rival, questioning their capabilities and mocking the state of their PR department. The rival retorted by reminding the executive of past public relations crises she herself had caused, stating that for Sally, she was willing to be a "brainy loser."
The executive seethed, believing she had been called brainless. Meanwhile, Yan Zichen, eager to see Fang Qiao, had initially sneaked out of the hospital. Upon spotting her on the street, he quickly returned to his room to prepare a scheme, intending to feign a severe illness for her sympathy. Fang Qiao, before visiting him, spoke with a friend.
She comforted her friend, stating there was no need to feel sorry, then mentioned she had seen Yan Zichen "up and around again" on the street earlier, making her less concerned about his condition, but she still intended to visit him. When Fang Qiao arrived at Yan Zichen's hospital room, he theatrically claimed his condition was dire and could even escalate to stomach cancer. The doctor, appearing to support the act, stated Yan Zichen's condition was "not positive."
However, Fang Qiao was unconvinced; she immediately insisted on more thorough examinations, including an enteroscopy and gastroscopy, for the following morning. Yan Zichen, horrified by the prospect of these unpleasant procedures, quickly tried to retract his claims, asserting that he felt completely recovered just by seeing her. Fang Qiao disregarded his protests and confirmed the examination schedule, leaving Yan Zichen to lament that Lin Lu, at least, had cried for him when he feigned illness previously.
Back at Huanzhen, Lin Lu was trying to figure out her next steps. Earlier, Shi Liansen had deliberately arranged for some snacks to be delivered to her and the staff at Huanzhen, ensuring she had something to eat while she waited for him. She left him a note, humorously reminding him to eat so he wouldn't starve before signing the contract. Separately, Liang Zhi had been secretly helping Lin Lu.
He had found a beautiful apartment with a river view, conveniently located near a subway station, for an incredibly low monthly rent of 1,000. Lin Lu found this suspicious. The real estate agent, pressured by Lin Lu, eventually confessed that Liang Zhi was actually paying the apartment's high market rent and had specifically instructed her to offer it to Lin Lu at the reduced rate.
Shortly after, Liang Zhi met Lin Lu and tried to show her details of a continuation school he had found for her. Lin Lu confronted him about the apartment, acknowledging his kindness but expressing that his excessive help put a lot of pressure on her, making her feel uncomfortable and suggesting his future girlfriend would be jealous. Liang Zhi then confessed his deep feelings, telling her he had loved her for 16 years.
Lin Lu, however, stated that she had always seen him as her best friend and, furthermore, she now had a boyfriend. Liang Zhi was devastated, asking if her rejection was due to Shi Liansen. Feeling that their relationship would become awkward after his confession, Lin Lu decided to move out immediately, thanking him for his care before departing. In a moment of frustration, Liang Zhi uttered Shi Liansen's name.
As Lin Lu hastily packed and left, she inadvertently left her contract behind. Lin Lu, now homeless, was left wandering the streets with her luggage. Shi Liansen, aware of her predicament, had already instructed his assistant, Maggie, to book all hotel rooms in the Forest Park area, effectively preventing Lin Lu from finding accommodation. As Lin Lu walked through a park, Shi Liansen called her. He somehow knew she was there with her luggage.
He warned her about reporters and advised her to find a hotel and hide. Lin Lu, frustrated, explained that all hotels were booked, her phone was dying, and she was lost. Shi Liansen reassured her, telling her to stay put as he was on his way.
Later, sitting alone in the park, Lin Lu tried to engage an older gentleman, offering him kebabs and talking incessantly about how BBQ could cure a bad mood, and wondering why all the hotels were booked. The old man, annoyed by her chatter, was eventually fetched by his wife, who affectionately teased him. As the couple left, the old man complained about Lin Lu giving him a headache with her talking.
Lin Lu was then approached by two thugs who initially dismissed her appearance but quickly decided to rob her for money. When she tried to cry for help, Shi Liansen dramatically appeared, confronting the thugs with the declaration, "Dare to bully my girl?" He quickly scared them off, sending them fleeing. Lin Lu noticed that Shi Liansen had sustained a cut on his hand during the confrontation, but he dismissed it as "just a little cut" that didn't hurt.
Episode 16 Recap
Lin Lu expressed concern to Shi Liansen that he was getting thinner. He dramatically told her that his condition was very serious and might develop into stomach cancer, part of his strategy to use a "pity trap." Later, a colleague brought a note from Lin Lu, reminding him to eat so he wouldn't starve before signing contracts. Shi Liansen then called Lin Lu, asking where she was.
She claimed to be taking a walk in the park, but he revealed that someone had seen her walking alone with luggage. Shi Liansen found Lin Lu in the park, visibly upset and with a scraped knee. He offered her a room in his house, suggesting she could move back as a tenant, implying she had nowhere to stay.
Lin Lu was hesitant, stating that their agreement had terminated and it wouldn't be proper for them to live under the same roof if they weren't in a relationship. Shi Liansen insisted he was just looking for a tenant, listing specific requirements like being quiet, clean, healthy, active, and not annoying.
Lin Lu observed that these sounded more like requirements for a girlfriend than a tenant, but acknowledged his mysophobia and insomnia might make it hard to find an ideal tenant. Despite his arguments, Lin Lu still felt it was inappropriate. As Lin Lu tried to leave after bandaging his cut hand, Shi Liansen exaggerated his pain and refused to go to the hospital alone. He claimed the rusty knife might cause an infection, making Lin Lu worry.
He then subtly brought up Huanzhen’s declining revenue due to rumors, implying her partial responsibility. Feeling pressured and sympathetic, Lin Lu eventually agreed to be his tenant. Shi Liansen then directed her to the guest room upstairs. After she went to bed, he reminded himself that they were just landlord and tenant, and he shouldn't think about other things. Meanwhile, Lin Lu also reminded herself that he was just her landlord.
Shi Liansen later received a call from a friend who enthusiastically shared "Seven Puppy's Love Tips" to help him win back his girl. The friend outlined seven strategies, including creating opportunities, showing a weak side to trigger protective instincts, creating distance to make the heart grow fonder, sweet-talking and buying gifts, using a "honey trap" by showing off his body, expressing love, and never giving up.
Elsewhere, Shen Jing tried to comfort a despondent Liang Zhi, offering him snacks and homemade white fungus and lotus seed soup. She noted he was even busier now than when he was a store manager at Huanzhen. Liang Zhi expressed his bitterness, feeling sorry for himself and comparing himself unfavorably to Shi Liansen. Shen Jing then confessed her unwavering feelings for him, regardless of his status. Liang Zhi, however, apologized and left, heading to a bar where he ordered whisky.
He got into an argument with the staff and then with a man and his female companion, who taunted him about being an illegitimate son and about Lin Lu choosing Shi Liansen over him. The next morning, Lin Lu prepared breakfast, explaining to Shi Liansen that she felt she owed him for his injured hand and for helping her out of trouble. Shi Liansen, however, claimed he was in the mood for Western food.
They almost spoke at the same time, but Lin Lu quickly told him she planned to work overtime and might be home late. She felt she had upset him again. Immediately afterward, Shi Liansen instructed his assistant, Maggie, to change a meeting location with a client to Lehua Restaurant, citing its proximity to the client's company.
At the Huanzhen store, Lin Lu encountered a customer attempting to return an empty product without a receipt, complaining of skin irritation and accusing the company of selling fake products. Lin Lu calmly explained the return policy, stating that returns were only accepted within seven days, with a receipt, and for unused products. Shi Liansen appeared, introducing himself as the boss. The customer redirected her complaints to him, criticizing Lin Lu's "stupidity" and suggesting she should be fired.
Shi Liansen quickly interjected, saying he couldn't fire his girlfriend. This surprised both Lin Lu and the customer. He then quickly clarified that it was just a "slip of the tongue" or a "habit." He offered to help the customer contact the online service since she bought the product there. Later, Liang Zhi called Lin Lu, apologizing for his previous recklessness and asking to meet at Lehua Restaurant to discuss something important in person.
He hoped they could remain friends, given their 16-year acquaintance. At the restaurant, Liang Zhi further apologized and then revealed that he was the illegitimate son of Li Changxin, the President of Sally Group. He explained that his father had abandoned him and his mother, and only called him now to make him a scapegoat for his legitimate son. Lin Lu encouraged him, reminding him of his capabilities and urging him not to let past grudges affect him.
As they talked, Shi Liansen arrived at the restaurant, pretending to be meeting a client there. He approached their table, feigning surprise to see Lin Lu, and claimed she was there to meet Liang Zhi with him. He once again referred to Lin Lu as his "girlfriend" and stated that her friends were his friends. Visibly frustrated, Liang Zhi abruptly left. Back home, Lin Lu asked Shi Liansen for help with her English, noting his proficiency.
He initially refused, but she offered to help him with his clay molding if he helped her. He then demanded an apology for her past criticisms and for making the room messy. She apologized, and he added that she shouldn't lie to him, especially when meeting Liang Zhi. She then asked for clarification on a grammar point, specifically why a sentence with "have" also used "set."
Shi Liansen explained it was the present perfect tense and that "set" was the past participle. Lin Lu struggled with the explanation, questioning what a past participle was and misinterpreting "have" to mean "to own or possess." Frustrated, Shi Liansen suggested she give up. Undeterred, Lin Lu decided to try learning English on her own, starting with listening, then reading, and finally memorizing vocabulary, though she found it challenging.
Episode 17 Recap
Early one morning, Lin Lu was sleepwalking again, frustrated with her English studies and threatening to make herself kneel on the keyboard when learning new words. She later discovered that Shi Liansen had prepared breakfast and even left her study notes. She resolved not to take his kindness for granted. Meanwhile, Sally Group held a press conference to launch their new Knight series of skincare products.
During the event, the spokesperson, Liang Zhi, was asked about the inspiration for the series and whether the "princess" he wished to protect was Lin Lu, the spokesperson for Huanzhen. Liang Zhi deflected direct confirmation but openly stated his hope for a spokesperson "as cute as Miss Lin Lu," fueling speculation. Worried about the media frenzy and how Shi Liansen might misinterpret Liang Zhi's comments, Lin Lu visited Shi Liansen's office, pretending not to be there specifically for him.
She left a lunchbox for him with his assistant, asking that her involvement not be mentioned. Upon returning, Shi Liansen immediately inquired about Lin Lu's visit and was given the lunchbox. Informed about Sally's press conference, he promptly arranged a flight to Italy to meet with Director Alan of US MAX Corp to discuss Cinderella's participation in the European market, making it clear that he was taking preemptive action to prevent any complications.
Lin Lu, while struggling to draft an explanatory text to Shi Liansen, received a reassuring message from him: "Don't overthink it. It's just a meal." He followed up with another text informing her of his three-day business trip to Italy and a sweet instruction to "Be good at home." Despite the sweet message, Lin Lu grew increasingly anxious, thinking Shi Liansen might believe she was betraying Huanzhen.
Sensational news headlines appeared, linking Lin Lu to both "Knight Care" and "Cinderella," with some even suggesting Shi Liansen went abroad with a "broken heart." During Shi Liansen's absence, Fang Qiao visited Lin Lu, explaining that Shi Liansen had asked her to spend more time with Lin Lu. She advised Lin Lu not to worry about Sally's tactics and to let Shi Liansen handle the situation.
Fang Qiao then shared a personal story, admitting that she used to pursue Shi Liansen simply because he was unattainable, a habit from her childhood where she always got what she wanted. She revealed that she had recently realized who she truly liked and why, hinting at Yan Zichen's constant presence. Fang Qiao then invited Lin Lu to go camping with her and Yan Zichen that weekend.
At the campsite, Yan Zichen was visibly uncomfortable upon learning Lin Lu would be joining them, especially when his luggage had to be removed to make space for hers. He jokingly sent a video message to Shi Liansen, complaining about Lin Lu "stealing" Fang Qiao and demanding Shi Liansen reclaim his "girlfriend." Meanwhile, Fang Qiao discreetly contacted Shi Liansen's assistant, sending their location and asking for Shi Liansen to join them once he landed.
Upon his arrival at the airport, Shi Liansen was ambushed by reporters who questioned him about Liang Zhi's public expression of affection for Lin Lu and rumors of her "cheating." Shi Liansen publicly affirmed Lin Lu as his girlfriend and dismissed the rumors as baseless. Shi Liansen rushed to the campsite, where Yan Zichen, despite his earlier complaints, greeted him with exaggerated enthusiasm and immediately tried to send Lin Lu off with Shi Liansen.
Lin Lu was delighted to see Shi Liansen, who explained he had come directly from the airport. Yan Zichen then enlisted their help to prepare a spot on a hill for his grand confession to Fang Qiao, stressing its importance to his happiness. Fang Qiao, however, intervened, telling Lin Lu to stay and cook with her so that Shi Liansen and Lin Lu could have some alone time.
While Shi Liansen and Lin Lu shared a quiet moment, he removed a leaf from her hair and revealed Yan Zichen's confession plan, making Lin Lu realize her "third wheel" status. They agreed to help Yan Zichen succeed. Yan Zichen then launched into his confession, using a cheat sheet to express his deep love for Fang Qiao, promising to protect and care for her, and even to learn cooking, housework, and driving for her.
Fang Qiao playfully teased him about the cheat sheet, asking if he was applying for a job as a chef, nanny, or driver. Despite her feigned anger, Yan Zichen’s heartfelt persistence, with some subtle encouragement from Shi Liansen, eventually won her over. Fang Qiao, tearfully admitting she was surprised, accepted his love, and they shared an embrace, signifying their new relationship.
Later that night, Yan Zichen tried to whisk Fang Qiao away to admire the moon, but Lin Lu also wanted to go. Yan Zichen, exasperated, told Shi Liansen to keep Lin Lu from being a "third wheel." Shi Liansen gently told Lin Lu to stay, and they ended up sharing roasted corn.
Under the starry sky, Lin Lu shared stories about constellations and her childhood dream of becoming an international makeup artist, inspired by her father's belief in her beauty and his gift of Huanzhen makeup. She expressed her desire to make all "Cinderellas" feel like princesses. Shi Liansen encouraged her, reminding her that she herself was "one of the Cinderellas."
Lin Lu then reflected on Yan Zichen's genuine love for Fang Qiao and the enduring friendship between the three of them, contrasting it with her own feelings of not having such long-standing close bonds. As it grew late, Shi Liansen told Lin Lu to sleep in her tent. When she asked where he would sleep, he said he would stay outside.
Lin Lu insisted she wouldn't go in if he stayed out, but Shi Liansen simply stated it was nice to get some fresh air. Unbeknownst to Lin Lu, the tent's zipper was broken, and Shi Liansen stayed awake all night, shielding her from the cool night breeze.
Episode 18 Recap
Shi Liansen was home, unwell with a fever. Lin Lu diligently cared for him, making ginger coca soup and applying cooling paste. The previous night, Shi Liansen had insisted on sleeping outside her tent, claiming he needed fresh air, to protect her from the cold due to a broken tent zipper. He later had a nightmare, begging Lin Lu not to leave him, which she reassured him she wouldn't.
Their close proximity led to playful banter, with Lin Lu accusing him of taking advantage of her by kissing her, and Shi Liansen countering that she had pulled him closer, then teasing her for running away after the kiss. Meanwhile, Maggie informed Shi Liansen over the phone that Alan had emailed, intending to shelve their partnership. Alan was also considering a deal with Sally, who had apparently offered better conditions.
Shi Liansen instructed Maggie to contact Alan's assistant to arrange a meeting before Sally could. In a separate meeting, Liang Zhi received confirmation that Alan was very interested in Sally's Knight Series, and he reiterated his goal of preventing Huanzhen from signing a contract with Alan. Liang Zhi also had a heated confrontation with a male colleague or relative, who called him a "bastard" and accused him of usurping a project, to which Liang Zhi responded with defiance.
He then internally reaffirmed his belief that Lin Lu would eventually realize he was "the one for her." Lin Lu later spoke with Liang Zhi, who apologized for the rumors surrounding the Knight Series that had caused trouble for her and Shi Liansen. Lin Lu, however, was still curious about the inspiration behind the series. Liang Zhi then fabricated a story, claiming his inspiration for the Knight Series came from Shen Jing.
He pretended to confess his love to Shen Jing, explaining that he had previously been confused and thought he loved Lin Lu, but realized she was like a sister. He asserted his jealousy was only because she was with Shi Liansen. He then asked Shen Jing for another chance, vowing to protect her like a knight protecting a princess. Though Shen Jing seemed hesitant, Lin Lu, unaware of the deception, was completely convinced and happy for them.
Separately, Lin Lu encountered Alan, an important foreign figure, and helped him retrieve a lost photo of his wife, for which he was extremely grateful. During a business presentation at Huanzhen, Alan observed Lin Lu’s intelligence and potential. He extended an invitation to his party the following night and encouraged her to bring a date, praising her as "cute." Back at the office, Shi Liansen informed Maggie that she would be his partner for Alan’s party, not Lin Lu.
He explained that Lin Lu was his girlfriend, and he did not want to leverage Alan's interest in her to secure the contract. Liang Zhi then deceitfully informed Shen Jing that Alan's party was canceled, blaming the erratic decisions of foreigners. He offered to send her on a shopping trip to Europe, claiming company commitments prevented him from joining her. Shen Jing expressed disappointment, mentioning that Lin Lu had also planned to attend and they wanted to take pictures together.
Despite her sadness, Shen Jing believed him. However, Liang Zhi secretly called Lin Lu, asking her to be his partner for what he claimed was a "different", private business partner's party, as Shen Jing was "unavailable." Lin Lu initially hesitated, concerned about being Huanzhen's spokesperson and the potential for new rumors, especially if Shi Liansen would also be there.
Liang Zhi pleaded with her, emphasizing the importance of the cooperation to his new role at Sally, and reassured her there would be no reporters, thus no harm to Huanzhen. Lin Lu reluctantly agreed. At Alan's party, Shi Liansen attended with Maggie as his dance partner, upholding his earlier decision not to involve Lin Lu in the business competition. Alan, expecting Lin Lu to be with Shi Liansen, expressed disappointment when Shi Liansen stated she wouldn't be attending.
Shortly after, Lin Lu arrived with Liang Zhi, immediately realizing that it was the same party he had told Shen Jing was canceled. She panicked, but Liang Zhi urged her to stay, claiming his job was on the line. Alan welcomed Lin Lu warmly and invited her to dance, or to choose any guest as her partner. Lin Lu, uncomfortable, attempted to decline and leave. Liang Zhi then intervened, asserting his right as her partner for the first dance.
However, Shi Liansen cut in, asking Lin Lu for a dance, which she accepted. Alan then commented that he would support her choice. As Lin Lu danced with Shi Liansen, Fang Qiao (Qiaoqiao) later intervened, taking over the dance with Lin Lu.
Other guests at the party gossiped, questioning Lin Lu's presence with Liang Zhi, Sally's Vice President, especially given the past rumors that the Knight Series was created for her, and called her "bold" for seemingly "cheating" on Shi Liansen in public. Unbeknownst to Liang Zhi, Mr. Li (Li Chaojiang) had brought Shen Jing to the party, expecting a dramatic scene. Shen Jing, witnessing Liang Zhi with Lin Lu, erupted in anger.
She confronted Liang Zhi, accusing him of lying about the party's cancellation, and furiously confronted Lin Lu, her "best friend," for "dating" her "boyfriend." Fang Qiao also berated Shi Liansen for not intervening, calling him childish and unreliable for letting Lin Lu choose a dance partner in public. Shi Liansen responded to Fang Qiao that Lin Lu needed to face this problem herself.
Episode 19 Recap
At a tense banquet, Shen Jing confronted Liang Zhi about the Knight Series, accusing him of lying and using her to pursue Lin Lu. Lin Lu clarified that Liang Zhi had told her Shen Jing was unavailable and asked her to be his partner. Shen Jing, enraged, called Lin Lu naive and claimed Liang Zhi had done many unspeakable things.
Liang Zhi lashed out at Shen Jing, telling her not to pretend to know him and stating he didn't care about her feelings. He then accused Shen Jing of brazenly interfering between him and Lin Lu. Lin Lu, however, asserted that she and Liang Zhi were only friends and expressed her disappointment in him for blaming Shen Jing. Shi Liansen intervened, urging everyone to calm down and pointing out the impropriety of their public scene.
Shen Jing then turned her anger on Lin Lu, questioning her sympathy and accusing her of being cunning and unable to choose between Shi Liansen and Liang Zhi. Shi Liansen defended Lin Lu, telling Shen Jing to direct her anger at him, which prompted Shen Jing to highlight that he was protecting "another's girlfriend." Shi Liansen then announced he would take his girlfriend home, effectively ending the chaotic confrontation.
Later, reflecting on the tumultuous event, Lin Lu felt a deep sadness about the impermanence of things and the need to let go. Shi Liansen, observing her distress, challenged her, asking if she truly understood sorrow or separation, before revealing that he had been sent abroad at five to live alone, devoid of family and friends. Lin Lu, overwhelmed and dismissing him as drunk, then pressed him about Alan's earlier comment regarding a "choice."
Shi Liansen explained that Alan meant "whoever you choose will become his choice." This led Lin Lu to confront Shi Liansen, believing he had only invited her to dance for business reasons, accusing him of self-interest and a lack of empathy for others' feelings. Shi Liansen denied it, but Lin Lu remained convinced he saw her merely as a tenant, not even a friend, and felt nothing for her, thus initiating a cold war between them.
The next day, Alan approached Lin Lu, speaking in fluent Chinese to apologize for the awkward situation at the party. He admitted to making a joke, thinking she was cute, and expressed regret for putting her in a difficult position. He then commented that Shi Liansen seemed to be her "prince" and wished her a lifetime of happiness, before revealing that the contract had been signed with Huanzhen.
Perplexed by Lin Lu's continued coldness, Shi Liansen later discussed the situation with Fang Qiao. Fang Qiao clarified that Lin Lu likely misunderstood his invitation to dance as merely a business maneuver to secure the contract. Fang Qiao also pointed out that Shi Liansen was being childish by insisting Lin Lu make a public choice at the party.
Meanwhile, Liang Zhi faced the wrath of Li Changxin, who furiously berated him for failing to secure the contract with US Max Corp. Li Changxin regretted appointing him and warned that Sally Group had no place for losers. Li Chaojiang joined in, chastising Liang Zhi for reaching for things that weren't his, whether it be a woman or a career.
Liang Zhi retaliated by calling Li Chaojiang a useless playboy with no right to criticize him, asserting that the true winner would be revealed in time. Embittered by the callousness of the Li family and his seething hatred for Shi Liansen, Liang Zhi decided to ally with other directors to dismantle Huanzhen. He met with Director Li, Sally's second-largest shareholder, presenting a five-year development plan and criticizing Sally's management for its lack of innovation.
Liang Zhi promised a 20% annual profit increase if he were made leader, securing a review of his proposal. He then contacted Director Wang to discuss his plan for taking Huanzhen down. Driven by a desire to convey his true feelings to Lin Lu, Shi Liansen sought advice from his female employees, asking them to list their most romantic fantasies. He received a wide range of ideas, from Aegean Sea proposals to leaving the last piece of fried chicken.
He attempted to use these suggestions, offering Lin Lu a trip to Europe or the last piece of fried chicken as an apology. However, Lin Lu remained unimpressed, stating they were merely friends and he shouldn't trouble himself. Fang Qiao later advised Shi Liansen that true love, not extravagant gestures, was what girls truly cared about, which made him realize his approach was flawed. Taking Fang Qiao’s advice to heart, Shi Liansen searched for ways to express his feelings.
After several failed attempts to confess through friends, direct conversation, and written notes, which Lin Lu found "corny" and "childish," he persisted. Lin Lu, still upset but unsure of her stance, discussed her feelings with Fang Qiao, who encouraged her to communicate her attitude rather than ignore the problem. Shi Liansen, not giving up, orchestrated a romantic scene by the sea with candles spelling "I LIKE YOU."
He approached Lin Lu, confirmed they both had no current partners, and asked, "Then let us be together." Lin Lu, initially incredulous, listed his flaws—ice-cold, arrogant, selfish, unreasonable, unhappy, and unable to decide his own marriage—but then admitted he wasn't entirely bad and had "changed a little."
Shi Liansen earnestly stated his willingness to change for her and invited her into his world, clarifying that he wasn't joking and that since she came into his life, he had learned about sacrifice, action, and love. Finally, he asked, "Will you be my girlfriend?" Lin Lu, surprised by the suddenness, admitted she needed to calm down and think, proposing a three-month probation period. Shi Liansen eagerly negotiated it down until Lin Lu settled on a three-day test.
If he passed, she would be his girlfriend. Shi Liansen readily agreed, and the test immediately began with Lin Lu directing him to the supermarket. There, Shi Liansen playfully carried her through the aisles. He had bought a year's supply of candies, mistaking her daily treat for a vast preference, before Lin Lu instructed him to carry her to the parking lot.
Episode 20 Recap
During the three-day assessment period, Lin Lu playfully guided Shi Liansen, teaching him various household chores. She instructed him on tasks like cooking, telling him to heat the wok, peel garlic, and chop onions, often critiquing his clumsy efforts. Shi Liansen patiently followed her instructions, at one point declaring he would be her student for life.
Lin Lu also directed him to sweep, and when he accidentally bumped her, he carried her to her room, causing her to misunderstand his intentions. Alone, Lin Lu internally deliberated, acknowledging Shi Liansen's sincerity but resolving to make him work for her affection and test his patience for the full three days. As Lin Lu and Shi Liansen reveled in the early stages of their blossoming romance, their relationship contract was abruptly exposed online, sparking widespread outrage and criticism.
The revelation severely damaged Huanzhen's reputation, leading to a massive loss of public trust, product returns, and a plummeting stock value. Shi Liansen's father sternly reprimanded him, demanding he terminate the contract with Lin Lu and end her role as spokesperson. However, Shi Liansen stood firm, asserting his genuine love for Lin Lu. He announced his intention to hold a press conference to officially declare their relationship, aiming to mitigate the damage to Huanzhen.
Although still disappointed, his father ultimately left him to handle the crisis. Meanwhile, Liang Zhi, the mastermind behind the leak, visited Lin Lu's mother. He subtly informed her that Lin Lu had not been home recently, implying something was amiss, and then showed her the incriminating online news about Lin Lu and Shi Liansen’s contractual relationship. Lin Lu’s mother was devastated upon seeing the news. She immediately confronted Lin Lu at Shi Liansen's home, demanding an explanation.
Lin Lu confessed to signing the contract but earnestly stated that she had since truly fallen in love with Shi Liansen. Her mother, heartbroken and blaming herself for Lin Lu's predicament, insisted that Lin Lu pack her belongings and return home with her, forbidding any further contact with Shi Liansen. Lin Lu desperately tried to call Shi Liansen, but her mother confiscated her phone and forcibly took her home, locking her in her room.
Determined to help his sister, Lin Cheng retrieved Lin Lu's phone and reassured her of his trust in Shi Liansen. He then cleverly feigned a severe stomachache to distract their mother and lure her away from the house, creating an opportunity for Lin Lu to reach out to Shi Liansen. Lin Lu, still confined, held onto her phone, ready to contact him.
Episode 21 Recap
The exposure of Lin Lu and Shi Liansen's contractual relationship ignited a public uproar. The Lin family found themselves under harsh scrutiny from neighbors, who openly gossiped about Lin Lu being a mistress, causing her mother immense anger. Lin Lu’s brother tried to defend her, insisting she was in a serious relationship, but their neighbors pointed to the news as undeniable proof.
Back home, Lin Lu’s mother, still furious, confronted her, urging her to break up with Shi Liansen to protect her late father's reputation and avoid a lifetime of gossip, emphasizing that Shi Liansen was "different" from them. Meanwhile, Shi Liansen was preparing a press conference to publicly announce his serious relationship with Lin Lu and address the scandal. His assistant confirmed that Sally was behind the leak of the contract, having meticulously planned to dominate online public opinion.
Shi Liansen instructed his team to draft a legal statement, asserting that he and Lin Lu were in a serious relationship and threatening legal action against anyone slandering her. He assured his team he would personally handle Sally. At the same time, Lin Lu was confined at home, expressing her guilt to her brother about hurting their mother and worrying about Shi Liansen.
Lin Lu’s brother, Lin Cheng, informed her that their mother had gone out and helped Lin Lu escape by getting a locksmith for her room. Lin Lu then called Shi Liansen, expressing how much she missed him while being grounded. Shi Liansen, unaware of her mother's imminent visit, reassured her, promising to apologize to her mother in person the next day and playfully teasing her about getting enough sleep to stay pretty.
Lin Lu hinted that she already had an answer to his earlier proposal and would tell him in person the next day. Concurrently, at Sally's board meeting, shareholders expressed discontent with the company's declining performance and praised Liang Zhi for successfully undermining Huanzhen. They voted to remove the current Chairman Li, citing his age and the need for more capable leadership.
Liang Zhi, with the unanimous support of the shareholders, was appointed the new chairman, promising a significant increase in performance and dividends. Shortly after, Lin Lu’s mother arrived at Shi Liansen’s office. She apologized for interrupting and asked to speak with him, insisting he accept her apologies for the trouble the news had caused her family.
Shi Liansen reiterated his sincere affection for Lin Lu, admitting their initial contractual arrangement was a mistake but defending their genuine feelings for each other. Lin Lu's mother then offered him a sum of money, explaining it was all she had and intended to repay the 500,000 yuan Shi Liansen had given Lin Lu for the contract. Shi Liansen refused the money.
She then opened up about the family’s struggles since her husband's death and how Lin Lu had taken on all responsibilities, becoming a strong pillar for their family. Shi Liansen promised to protect Lin Lu and prevent her from suffering any further. Despite his assurances, Lin Lu’s mother knelt before him, begging him to let Lin Lu go.
She argued that "marriages of equals will last" and that their vastly different backgrounds meant Lin Lu would endure a lifetime of cruel judgment and humiliation. Shi Liansen, visibly conflicted, acknowledged his selfishness in dragging Lin Lu into his life but insisted his feelings for her were real and unrelated to the contract.
Lin Lu’s mother countered that a girl’s reputation was paramount, and a man should understand there were things more important than love, imploring him again to release Lin Lu for both their sakes. Deeply affected by Lin Lu’s mother's plea, Shi Liansen composed himself for the press conference. Meanwhile, Lin Lu was rushing to the conference, determined to give Shi Liansen her answer in person.
At the press conference, amidst a flurry of questions from reporters, Shi Liansen confirmed the contract was real. He took full responsibility, claiming it was his idea to use Lin Lu to promote Huanzhen's "Cinderella" products and that he had paid her 500,000 yuan as a spokesperson. He vehemently denied she was a "kept girl" and warned against further defamation, threatening legal action.
He then stated that Lin Lu's actions were solely for her family, and he had exploited her vulnerability. He concluded by dramatically tearing up the contract, declaring its termination and that he and Lin Lu no longer had any relationship, promising to take full responsibility for the incident's social impact. Lin Lu, having arrived and witnessed parts of the press conference, tried desperately to reach Shi Liansen, first by phone, then by going to his office.
She called his assistant, Maggie, who tried to connect her, but Shi Liansen coldly ordered Maggie to hang up, even as Maggie relayed Lin Lu's distress. Reporters at the conference mentioned seeing Lin Lu fall, but Shi Liansen ignored them and ordered his driver to leave. Distraught, Lin Lu confronted Shi Liansen at his office, telling him she was there to give her answer. Shi Liansen cruelly stated it no longer mattered and that "their relationship" was over.
When Lin Lu sought clarification, believing he only meant the contractual relationship, he made it clear he meant "their" entire relationship. Heartbroken, Lin Lu reminded him of his recent declarations of love and the necklace he gave her, questioning how everything could change before she gave her answer. Shi Liansen, maintaining a cold demeanor, insisted his actions and gifts were solely for Huanzhen’s benefit, to promote the brand and impress business partners.
He declared himself a "cold-hearted, selfish, insensitive businessman" who had successfully deceived her. Lin Lu tearfully refuted this, recalling his past acts of kindness toward her and others, but Shi Liansen merely asserted that such performances were necessary to ensure her cooperation with Huanzhen.
Episode 22 Recap
Following the public revelation of their contractual relationship and the resulting scandal, news outlets buzzed with speculation. People gossiped about Lin Lu, labeling her a "mistress" who was "dumped after being used." A report confirmed that Sally was behind the entire incident, noting that everything Lin Lu had done was for her family. At a press conference, Shi Liansen, President of Huanzhen Group, formally addressed the situation.
He clarified that the contract was genuine and that it was his idea for Lin Lu to sign it to promote Huanzhen's Cinderella products. He took full responsibility for the adverse social impact and formally apologized for the negative influence, declaring the contract terminated and stating that he and Lin Lu would no longer have any relationship.
Internally, Shi Liansen grappled with his decision, thinking that his public performance had successfully deceived Lin Lu and that ending their association was for the best for everyone. Lin Lu, heartbroken and in disbelief, wandered in the rain, with Shi Liansen silently following her. She told herself that it wasn't true, that she must be dreaming, and that everything would be fine once she woke up. Later that day, Lin Lu, drenched and distraught, collapsed at Shi Liansen's doorstep.
She tearfully called out for him to come out, pleading to talk. She acknowledged that he might have given her up to resolve Huanzhen’s crisis and understood the situation, but insisted they could face it together. She rejected his public statements, stating she didn’t believe he was the Shi Liansen she knew—the one who protected her, played with Xiaocheng, and accepted her mother’s flaws. She desperately clung to their relationship, begging him not to push her away.
Lin Lu confessed that she was no longer thoughtless, that she wouldn’t cause him trouble, and that she had become capable, even receiving an admission notice from a makeup school. She vowed to become as outstanding as Fang Qiao and satisfy his family and company shareholders, expressing her hard work to fit into his world and make him proud.
She tearfully begged him for a chance, asking him not to leave her alone, and finally confessed her strong feelings for him, saying 'I really like you!' Inside, Shi Liansen sat by the door, holding back tears, unable to open it.
He silently reflected on a previous conversation with Lin Lu’s mother, who had tearfully begged him to let her daughter go, emphasizing the importance of a girl's reputation and her inability to let Lin Lu's life be ruined because of his feelings. Lin Lu and Shi Liansen remained separated by the door all night, both physically and mentally exhausted. The next morning, Liang Zhi found Lin Lu still at Shi Liansen’s door and gently brought her back to his home.
He tried to console her, urging her to eat and stating that Shi Liansen didn't deserve her tears. He advised her to consider their relationship a dream and move on, reminding her that he would always be there to protect her and have her back.
He encouraged her to focus on her dream of becoming an international makeup artist, suggesting that going abroad for school would allow her to change her environment and start a new life, even offering to help with tuition fees. While Lin Lu was being comforted, Shen Jing arrived at Liang Zhi’s house to collect her belongings. Liang Zhi, after taking a phone call about an urgent matter, asked Shen Jing to stay with Lin Lu.
Shen Jing readily agreed, affirming Lin Lu as her best friend. Shen Jing then apologized to Lin Lu for her past mistakes, for hurting and misunderstanding her. Lin Lu confessed that she didn't think she could get over Shi Liansen, breaking down in tears in Shen Jing's embrace. Shen Jing held her, encouraging her to let it all out but also to think about her future and her dream.
Though Lin Lu initially despaired, Shen Jing's steadfast support helped her process her emotions. Shortly after, Fang Qiao also visited Lin Lu, expressing concern for both her and Shi Liansen, noting their shared tendency to keep quiet. Fang Qiao acknowledged that if the breakup was Shi Liansen's choice, she would respect it.
Lin Lu confirmed her decision to go abroad for makeup school, a choice Fang Qiao wholeheartedly supported, encouraging her to use the opportunity to improve herself and open up a new world. Fang Qiao promised her unwavering friendship and support. Meanwhile, at Huanzhen, Shi Liansen initiated a swift recovery strategy. Public opinion had started to shift in their favor, and he instructed his team to launch customer reward activities and develop a new activity plan.
He also called for a meeting with the manager of Overseas Business, indicating Huanzhen’s plans to tap into international markets. He later sent an email to all employees, acknowledging the negative impact of the recent incident and sincerely apologizing. He expressed his hope that they would remain true to their original aspirations, pursue their dreams, and stick together as he led Huanzhen into a new era with its expansion into the overseas market.
At the airport, Lin Lu prepared to leave. Her mother advised her to take care of herself, not to be too frugal, and to call upon arrival. Liang Zhi also reassured her that he would visit and send money if needed, promising to look after her family.
As Lin Lu’s boarding time approached, Liang Zhi tried to stall, repeatedly calling Shi Liansen, who wasn't answering, and even persuading Lin Lu's mother to offer more comical advice about avoiding foreign romantic entanglements. Despite Liang Zhi's efforts to buy time, Shi Liansen remained unseen by Lin Lu. From a distance, Shi Liansen watched Lin Lu depart, his mind filled with memories of their shared past.
He recalled their initial awkward encounters—him hitting her scooter and looking at her "as if she were a moron," his occupation of her secret spot, and his annoying problems like mysophobia and insomnia. He then remembered how he had gradually become warm and gentle, helping and protecting her. He replayed in his mind Lin Lu’s past confession, how she couldn't stop thinking about him, how she dreamed of him, and her childish yet heartfelt declaration of love. As Lin Lu passed out of sight, Shi Liansen silently wished his "silly girl" well.
Episode 23 Recap
Three years later, Lin Lu had become an internationally renowned makeup artist, having launched her successful "Flowing Time" product series. During an interview, she was recognized as an International Makeup Artist and Skincare Specialist designated by Fashion Icon, a significant leap from being an unknown student three years prior. Lin Lu attributed her success to diligence, stating that as a slow learner, she had to work harder than others.
She also confirmed her invitation to Milan Fashion Week, where she planned to launch her new series, explaining that "Flowing Time" was a gift for the passing of time and her past self. Her director, Alan, commended her achievements, noting how much she had grown from the girl who could barely speak English.
Despite her professional triumphs, Lin Lu’s personal life remained empty, as she candidly admitted to being single and politely rejected several suitors who expressed their affection for her. Meanwhile, Lin Lu’s friend Fang Qiao received her twentieth marriage proposal from Yan Zichen. Yan Zichen's heartfelt, if slightly exasperated, declaration of love detailed his numerous previous attempts and Fang Qiao's various reasons for rejection, from not being formal enough to lacking romance.
He passionately promised to devote his life to her happiness, even wishing he could bear children for her. Fang Qiao, acknowledging his persistence, finally agreed to marry him on his twentieth proposal, much to Yan Zichen's overjoyed delight as he swept her into his arms. Back at her company, Alan approached Lin Lu with a significant proposal. Recognizing the company’s rapid growth, he suggested opening a branch in China and offered Lin Lu the position to lead its expansion.
Lin Lu was initially reluctant, expressing a desire to spend a few more years abroad to further her career. However, Alan gently persuaded her, reminding her of the Chinese saying "Falling leaves return to their roots" and highlighting that she hadn't returned home in three years, and her family missed her. He assured her that her abilities would ensure success anywhere and this opportunity would bring her closer to her loved ones.
He encouraged her to listen to her heart without pressure. Soon after, Lin Lu spoke to her mother on the phone, who lamented her long absence and shared how much Lin Lu's brother missed her. Lin Lu informed her mother that she would be returning to China in a few days to expand the company's business.
Her mother, thrilled by the news, immediately brought up setting Lin Lu up on a blind date with a man introduced by Mrs. Wang, much to Lin Lu's exasperation. Lin Lu later received a message from Fang Qiao, who had booked a flight ticket for her to return to China to be her bridesmaid for her wedding on June 6th.
Seeing the wedding invitation brought a wave of past memories to Lin Lu, confirming the emotional wounds she still carried from three years ago. While helping Fang Qiao pick out a bridesmaid dress at a mall, Lin Lu coincidentally spotted Liang Zhi working at a coffee shop and approached him. Lin Lu greeted Liang Zhi, playfully calling him "big boss" in reference to his new venture. They awkwardly stumbled over their words, both acknowledging the passage of three years.
Liang Zhi asked about her well-being, to which Lin Lu replied that her life had been busy and fulfilling with study and progress, asking him if she looked like a successful person now. Liang Zhi complimented her, saying she seemed more feminine.
He then earnestly apologized for his past jealousy and hatred, confessing that he had been the one to leak the contract online, which he believed caused the breakup between Lin Lu and Shi Liansen and her subsequent departure abroad. Lin Lu, forgiving him, stated that the contract was not the sole reason for their breakup.
She explained that the main issue was her feeling that Shi Liansen didn't understand her, and her fear that he would leave her, which he ultimately did. When Liang Zhi tried to mention that Shi Liansen hadn’t dated anyone in three years, Lin Lu quickly changed the subject, asking about an old hotpot restaurant. Shi Liansen, having achieved significant success with Huanzhen Group by expanding its business globally and acquiring Sally, was being interviewed by a reporter.
He dismissed rumors of being backed by someone, asserting that his employees' support was the true key to Huanzhen's success. When questioned about acquiring Sally, whose former Chairman (Liang Zhi) was supposedly his "love rival," Shi Liansen simply stated that he had no love rival and acted as a businessman to maximize profit.
The reporter then pressed him about his own love life, contrasting it with Yan Zichen's engagement to Fang Qiao, and asked if he was still hung up on his ex-girlfriend. Shi Liansen responded definitively, "I don’t have an ex-girlfriend," before curtly ending the interview. He later received news of Lin Lu's return, silently welcoming her back.
Lin Lu's reluctance to forgive Shi Liansen was evident when Fang Qiao tried to speak of him, but Lin Lu quickly shut down the conversation, stating she decided to let him go the day she left and wouldn't give a chance to someone who "dumped her out of the blue." However, Shi Liansen had already begun his pursuit. He orchestrated a "coincidental" encounter with Lin Lu at the dress shop, then again at a party celebrating her return.
At the party, he openly admired her "Flowing Time" series and proposed a professional collaboration on Huanzhen's new "Time Machine" series, providing a legitimate reason for them to interact. After Lin Lu agreed to have her assistant contact him, Shi Liansen declared to himself, "If you want to play, I’ll play with you!" He further demonstrated his intentions when Lin Lu visited his office to discuss the collaboration.
After she presented her plans, Shi Liansen offered her his pen, revealing a planner containing a picture of her. Lin Lu commented on his "hobby of collecting others’ pictures," to which he simply replied, "Not others," indicating that the picture was exclusively of her. He then subtly deferred further discussion of details, ensuring future meetings would be necessary for their "collaboration."
Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
Shi Liansen employed a business collaboration as a means to create opportunities to meet Lin Lu, but she consistently created minor obstacles to push him away. He expressed his admiration for her "Flowing Time Series" designs during a business meeting, and later proposed personally testing products from their new "Time Machine Series" after R&D was complete. He offered her samples and requested her feedback to prolong their interactions.
After one such meeting, he subtly commented on her handshake with a colleague, Maggie, before declaring, "Happy cooperation!" Lin Lu then received a call from her mother, reminding her about a blind date that evening. Despite Lin Lu assuring her mother she hadn't forgotten, Shi Liansen offered her dinner and a ride, which she politely declined. He then proceeded to follow her in his car. When Lin Lu confronted him, he claimed he was merely "passing by."
When she sarcastically invited him to go first, he pretended his car had a problem, eliciting a "Childish!" from Lin Lu. Lin Lu proceeded to her blind date, where Mr. Zhang immediately proved to be an odd character. He questioned why they were meeting at a restaurant, suggesting instead they go to his home for leftovers so he could assess her thriftiness.
He openly critiqued her appearance as "average looking" and her figure, then interrogated her about her income and spending habits, deeming her makeup to convey an "unfaithful" vibe. When Lin Lu attempted to order more food, Mr. Zhang outrageously claimed the meal's cost was equivalent to a month's worth of formula for their "future baby," asserting that he should control their family's finances.
He then callously asked if she was capable of conceiving, bringing up rumors of her past as a "kept woman" by the President of Huanzhen Group, implying multiple miscarriages could lead to infertility, and crudely asking about the breakup settlement money. Observing from a nearby table, Shi Liansen finally intervened. He offered Mr. Zhang wine, then revealed himself to be the President of Huanzhen, adding provocatively that he was "actually the kept one."
Enraged, Mr. Zhang called him a "big bully." Lin Lu, however, was furious at Shi Liansen's unwelcome interference, telling him she didn't need his help and accusing him of trying to drag her into a "tender trap" again. She declared they were no longer what they used to be and sarcastically thanked him for confirming her past as a "kept woman." Shi Liansen apologized profusely, admitting his "big mistake" and pleading to "start over."
Lin Lu retorted that they never truly started, reminding him he wasn't there when she needed him, and now she no longer needed him. Shi Liansen continued to follow Lin Lu home, prompting her to call him "Boring!" Her mother was waiting up, concerned about the blind date. Lin Lu dismissed Mr. Zhang as not her type.
Her mother then mentioned "Xiaoshi," asking if Lin Lu still hadn't forgotten him, and hinted at his continued presence in Lin Lu's life by asking if he had driven her home. Lin Lu, agitated, told her mother not to mention him again, questioning why she was pushing her. Lin Lu confessed that it didn't matter anymore, believing Shi Liansen had abandoned her and never truly cared for her during the past three years, always making decisions without consulting her.
Her mother, saddened by Lin Lu's distress, then revealed the painful truth. She expressed regret for having approached Shi Liansen three years ago, admitting she felt helpless when the scandal broke and Lin Lu became its biggest victim. Unable to stop the rumors, she had asked Xiaoshi to leave Lin Lu, even kneeling to beg him.
She explained her actions by stating Lin Lu was too young to endure such a huge risk, confessing she hadn't realized how deeply Shi Liansen loved Lin Lu at the time. Lin Lu, however, remained unreconciled, pointing out that despite her mother's pleas, Shi Liansen still gave up on her, reinforcing her belief that he never truly cared and constantly controlled their relationship, never asking for her opinion. She stated firmly that she would not forgive him easily.
The next morning, Lin Lu encountered Shi Liansen and Master Liang, who ran a coffee shop. She continued to rebuff Shi Liansen's attempts to connect. At her office, colleagues gossiped about Shi Liansen's "Time Machine Series," believing he named it because he was "waiting for somebody" to preserve cherished memories, implying Lin Lu was that person.
Lin Lu seemingly "accidentally" spilled coffee on Shi Liansen, then used a supposed blind date as an excuse to rush off, still trying to push him away. She then called a police officer, falsely accusing Shi Liansen of being a "pervert" who had been following her. Shi Liansen explained to the officer that they were a couple and she was simply angry.
After Lin Lu confronted him about why he was still pursuing her and how she had suffered alone for three years abroad, she returned home to find a parcel from Alan. Inside was a letter along with gifts, originally intended for "Lynn & Sen's wedding." Flashbacks revealed Shi Liansen's secret care: a message from him to Alan, asking for help to look after Lin Lu, noting her inner fragility despite her outward strength.
Alan questioned why Shi Liansen didn't tell her the truth, to which Shi Liansen replied, "Because I love her." This revelation finally shattered Lin Lu's emotional barrier. At a subsequent business meeting, Shi Liansen, clearly prioritizing Lin Lu, insisted he would only sign the contract with "Director Lin," stating that the "Time Machine Series" was not created for profit but for a deeper, unspoken reason connected to her. As Lin Lu stormed out, he pursued her, grabbing her hand.
She angrily questioned why he had reappeared and what he wanted. Shi Liansen unequivocally declared his desire to be with her and his refusal to let her go. Lin Lu then poured out her heart, expressing her "hate" not for his actions, but for his secrecy—for not telling her about her mother's intervention, for shouldering all the responsibility, and for making decisions about her future and feelings on his own.
She called his heroism "very stupid" and spoke of her immense sadness at the time. Shi Liansen simply responded, "I like you so much." They embraced, and later woke up together, signaling their reconciliation. Lin Lu called Shi Liansen, arranging to meet on the beach that afternoon. He arrived early, full of anticipation, playfully calling her a "liar" when she feigned being late.
Lin Lu explained she had brought him there to give him the answer she couldn't three years prior. Shi Liansen then presented her with a "love letter"—a contract he had kept for a long time, waiting for her signature to make it effective. Lin Lu humorously noted its lack of a due date, to which Shi Liansen clarified it was "for life." Her last question was whether he had visited her in the hospital abroad three years ago.
Shi Liansen affirmed, "I’ve always been with you! I’ve never really left you!" Lin Lu then tearfully thanked him for everything, and they shared a long, loving kiss, finally mending their broken hearts and reuniting.
