> The Romance of Hua Rong Recap

Hua Rong awoke with a start from a nightmare, screaming as she dreamed of Qin Shang Cheng pursuing her relentlessly. She found herself in a bed, a man introducing himself as Mr. Jin (Jin Yiwen) by her side. Yue Feng explained that Jin Yiwen had rescued them after their boat capsized in the storm. Jin Yiwen asked if Hua Rong remembered him, presenting a package to jog her memory.

She then recalled a previous encounter in Yin Cheng when she had bumped into him while being chased. Jin Yiwen inquired about the whereabouts of his travel manuscript, which documented his travels. Hua Rong, embarrassed, admitted she had burned it for warmth during a cold night in Dong Yang. Enraged, Jin Yiwen abruptly turned to leave. His servant, Lai Sheng, tactlessly questioned Hua Rong about fleeing a marriage, prompting Jin Yiwen to chastise him for his lack of discretion.

Back on the island, Qin Shang Cheng was consumed by sorrow over Hua Rong's disappearance, drinking heavily. He refused Qian Dayou’s suggestion to remove the wedding candles, vehemently asserting that Hua Rong, after all her effort to escape, could not have died so easily in the storm; he was convinced she was still alive. In his room, Qin Shang Cheng wistfully remembered moments with Hua Rong and gazed at their marriage contract.

A pang of sadness struck him as he realized she had always been deceiving him. He nearly tore the contract but couldn't bring himself to destroy it. Drunk, he hallucinated Hua Rong enticing him on his bed, only to find a strange woman in her place, a woman Qian Dayou had sent to cheer him up. Qin Shang Cheng summoned Qian Dayou, offering him tea and declaring his sole interest was Hua Rong.

He insisted that she was his only wife and must be found, whether alive or dead. Meanwhile, Hua Rong found herself reminiscing about Qin Shang Cheng, a smile playing on her lips before she mentally chided herself, reminding herself that they were no longer bound. She refocused on her immediate task: repaying Jin Yiwen. With her exceptional memory, Hua Rong spent two days meticulously rewriting Jin Yiwen’s entire manuscript.

Upon receiving the re-written manuscript, Jin Yiwen was astonished that she could reproduce it so accurately without understanding the characters. He marveled at Tian Chu, recognizing it as a land of concealed talents. Hua Rong humbly apologized for her earlier actions. Yue Feng informed Hua Rong that the money from the recently robbed official boat was ill-gotten, explaining why the imperial court did not pursue Qin Shang Cheng's pirates.

Realizing they were still in a coastal area and their health had recovered, Yue Feng suggested they leave quickly, fearing Qin Shang Cheng might track them down. Hua Rong acknowledged his foresight but revealed she had one more mission to complete before their departure. On the island, Qin Shang Cheng ordered all ships to embark on a search for Hua Rong. A subordinate reported news of Pei Yong in Yin Cheng.

Qian Dayou advised Qin Shang Cheng to personally go to the coastal town of Yin Cheng. He reasoned that it would be more effective to search for Pei Yong there and simultaneously inquire about Hua Rong, as she might have been rescued by someone in the area. Qin Shang Cheng agreed to this plan. Later, while briefly resting at a cloth shop, Qin Shang Cheng thought he caught a glimpse of Hua Rong but she quickly disappeared.

He then instructed Qian Dayou to expand the search, emphasizing that Hua Rong might be in disguise, a suggestion Qian Dayou privately dismissed as paranoia. Hua Rong and Yue Feng arrived at Tian Xian Lou, determined to rescue Xiao Hui. They attempted to enter with Hua Rong disguised as a man, but guards stopped them at the entrance. Jin Yiwen, observing the scene, ignited a string of firecrackers, creating a diversion that allowed Hua Rong and Yue Feng to escape.

After rescuing them, Jin Yiwen learned Hua Rong's reason for infiltrating Tian Xian Lou was to save Xiao Hui. Impressed by her chivalry, he decided to join their mission. Hua Rong declared their ultimate goal was to find and burn all the indentures at the brothel, thereby freeing the enslaved women.

Jin Yiwen instructed his servant, Master Yang, that a grand spectacle tomorrow would help him attract a person he wished to meet, dismissing Master Yang's concerns about drawing too much attention. The next day, Hua Rong, disguised as an old man, accompanied Yue Feng and Jin Yiwen, who were dressed as girls, to Tian Xian Lou. Hua Rong explained to Mama Hua that these were her two "intelligent daughters" whom she wished to sell.

Mama Hua, unimpressed by their looks or talents, was about to refuse until Hua Rong offered a "buy one, get one free" deal. Mama Hua eagerly accepted, asking them to sign the indentures. She noticed Jin Yiwen's and Yue Feng’s last names, Jin and Yue, which were different, making her suspicious. Hua Rong quickly explained that one girl took her mother's surname (Yue), and the other took her (the disguised father's) surname (Jin).

That night, Hua Rong, Yue Feng, and Jin Yiwen stealthily entered Mama Hua's room, searching for the indentures. Mama Hua suddenly returned, discovering them hidden in the wardrobe. After a struggle, they subdued her, using a chicken feather broom to coerce her into revealing the location of the indentures in a drawer. As they retrieved the stack of contracts, Mama Hua screamed, alerting the guards. The three quickly fled, pursued by the thugs.

They burst into a room, interrupting a meeting between Pei Yong and a masked individual. Coincidentally, Qin Shang Cheng arrived at Tian Xian Lou, having received word of Pei Yong's presence. As Hua Rong fled through the building, she crashed into Qin Shang Cheng and immediately darted away. Qin Shang Cheng, focused on capturing Pei Yong, let her go for the moment. Pei Yong managed to escape once more, claiming his subordinate had already escorted the masked person away.

Hua Rong, upon returning to the inn from Tian Xian Lou, hastily packed her belongings, intent on leaving immediately. Jin Yiwen, confused by her urgency, questioned her, but Hua Rong offered no explanation, her true desire being to evade Qin Shang Cheng. Jin Yiwen and Yue Feng followed her to a desolate temple, where they decided to spend the night. Throughout the night, Hua Rong was plagued by nightmares, haunted by visions of Qin Shang Cheng chasing her.
