Early in the morning, Gu Yiran came to the special task force, looking dispirited. He claimed he stayed up all night reading reports, but Zheng Bei knew he wasn't telling the truth. On the other side, Zhao Xiaoguang brought snacks to the barbershop to find Zheng Nan. Seeing Zheng Nan cutting a little boy's hair, he stood beside her and sang Cantonese songs to Zheng Nan. He also lied, claiming he was going to Huazhou.
He originally intended to test her reaction, but to his surprise, she didn't show the slightest reluctance or unwillingness to part. However, Zheng Nan had long seen that Zhao Xiaoguang was lying, so she decided to turn his trick against him. As expected, Zhao Xiaoguang immediately stated that he would not go to Huazhou. When the police anti-vice squad was clearing out places involved in prostitution, they found Gu Yiran.
Zheng Bei quickly rushed to the private room to "redeem" him. Gu Yiran stood awkwardly in the corner. After questioning, it was learned that it was a misunderstanding. Gu Yiran was looking for someone but went into the wrong room. As soon as he entered, he was accidentally injured by the anti-vice squad, who mistook him for one of them.
In the end, Zheng Bei "bribed" the anti-vice squad leader with a week of free chicken frames to prevent the matter from being gossiped about to the rest of the special task force. But just as the two were walking out, Zhao Xiaoguang arrived with the little boy to find the boy's mother. He curiously asked why they were there. Zheng Bei said he brought Gu Yiran over to learn, and his face immediately became stern.
Zheng Bei grabbed Gu Yiran, intending to take him home, and simultaneously questioned him about whom he was looking for in such a place. Gu Yiran only said he was looking for a certain friend, but the image flashing through his mind was Li Wenlong in the nightclub. Just as the two were leaving, Li Wenlong's car drove past. He saw Gu Yiran and Zheng Bei pulling and tugging through the car window, and his eyes narrowed sharply.
As early as two hours ago, Li Wenlong had noticed someone following him. After entering the room, he quietly slipped away without receiving any service, so Gu Yiran ended up finding nothing. That rainy night, Gu Yiran followed Li Wenlong all the way, but was caught and severely beaten instead. On his way home from work, Ding Guozhu heard sounds of a fight not far away. He drew his gun and ordered the other party to stop.
Suddenly, a man in black rushed out and stabbed Ding Guozhu with a knife, then quickly left with Li Wenlong. Gu Yiran urgently sent Ding Guozhu to the hospital. Fortunately, Gu Yiran and Ding Guozhu were not seriously injured. Ding Guozhu recalled what happened last night, saying that the sky was very dark. The person who beat Gu Yiran was soaked all over.
Just as he was about to handcuff him, a dark figure suddenly emerged from the alley and stabbed him with a knife. Although the other party ran very fast, Ding Guozhu shot and wounded the dark figure's shoulder. On the hospital rooftop, Gu Yiran recounted his past to Zheng Bei and Ding Guozhu. Because of his sister's incident, he and his father began researching methamphetamine and assisted the Huazhou police in solving the '93 major drug case.
The head of the drug trafficking ring was named Song Kang. After Song Kang was arrested, the drug trafficking ring completely collapsed. Li Wenlong was once Song Kang's subordinate. Later, he was arrested for armed assault and served one year in prison until his release upon completion of his sentence. In the summer of 1994, Gu Yiran went abroad for an exchange program and was away for half a month.
But when he returned by car on August 5th, he found something was wrong at home and couldn't find any trace of his father. Afterwards, Li Wenlong called, claiming Gu Yiran's father was dead, and threw a bloody shirt in the heavy rain. From then on, Gu Yiran never heard from his father again, and his body's whereabouts were unknown. Ding Guozhu and Zheng Bei comforted Gu Yiran, willing to help him look for clues together.
Next, Zheng Bei arrested Li Wenlong for interrogation, questioning him about the reason for assaulting a police officer. Li Wenlong made excuses to evade. Suddenly, he had an asthma attack. Zheng Bei gave him the inhaler, but unexpectedly, his attitude remained arrogant. All members of the special task force helped Gu Yiran look through old files. There was no criminal record for several years, so there was no reason to convict him.
Just then, Ding Guozhu's parents returned from outside carrying things. Hearing that their son was injured while bravely fighting gangsters, they felt proud of him. It was the first time Ding Guozhu experienced the feeling of being his parents' pride, and he couldn't help but burst into tears. Gu Yiran looked at the warm scene of the family of three, his heart filled with envy.
Zheng Bei reached out and put his arm around his shoulder, saying that from now on, his home would be Gu Yiran's home. It was precisely for this reason that Zheng Bei helped Gu Yiran pack his things and move back into his own house, resuming living together. Zheng Bei recalled the dark figure who stabbed someone on the rainy night. Based on the physical characteristics described by Gu Yiran, he suspected it was very likely Jiang Xiaohai. He actively called him to ask and learned that Jiang Xiaohai was at home with a fever. He then planned to test him tomorrow, thinking that if it really was Jiang Xiaohai, he would definitely have a gunshot wound on his shoulder.
