Following up on Su Nianfeng's refusal to be his deskmate, Su Muyun watched as she chose to sit alone in the back of the classroom. He had offered her the "precious opportunity," but she rejected it, stating she wasn't worthy of a "cosmic-level top student" like him and hadn't forgiven him for scribbling in her notebook. As students paired up, Liu Zihui approached Su Muyun and asked to be his deskmate, to which he indifferently agreed.
After Su Nianfeng settled in the last row, Le Diyin asked to sit beside her, and she nodded in agreement. The teacher announced a placement test, stressing that the results would determine their academic futures, with options like arts or sports classes for lower-scoring students. Su Nianfeng grew nervous, as she lacked talent in those areas.
However, she was relieved to discover the English listening test used the exact audio clip Su Muyun had played that morning, and the unscrawled portions of her notes contained the exam questions. Su Muyun finished his test with confidence and submitted it early. The teacher asked him to collect the papers, and when he reached Su Nianfeng, she was still the last one working.
He tapped her desk and, getting no response, simply took her paper and left, leaving her disheartened that he acted so impartially just as she was about to praise him. Later, while walking with Le Diyin after lunch, Su Nianfeng lamented that her poor grades would make it hard to find a deskmate since seats were assigned based on performance. She explained to Le Diyin that she and Su Muyun were foster siblings who weren't blood-related.
Le Diyin remarked on their different personalities, calling her "adorable and good-tempered." Su Muyun, walking behind them, overheard the conversation and, growing irritated, crumpled a piece of paper and threw it at Su Nianfeng's head. Turning to see who it was, she muttered about their ill-fated connection. On campus, Liu Zihui tried to give Su Muyun a gift, but he declined. She then offered it to his basketball teammate, who opened it to reveal a pair of limited-edition sneakers.
After Su Muyun walked off, the teammate returned the gift to Liu Zihui, claiming the size was wrong. Su Nianfeng, having witnessed this, consoled Liu Zihui, suggesting Su Muyun might have found the gift too expensive and that something simpler like a notebook would be better. When Su Nianfeng confirmed she and Su Muyun were not blood-related, Liu Zihui's mood brightened, and she eagerly asked what kind of things Su Muyun liked.
During a composition test on the theme of "Ideals," Su Nianfeng struggled for ideas, but Le Diyin passed her a note encouraging her to write about her strengths. Su Muyun witnessed the exchange and later confronted Su Nianfeng, demanding the "evidence of puppy love" to show their parents. She retorted that she still had a pile of his love letters.
He then threatened to tell Qin Yao she had found a new sweetheart, which agitated Su Nianfeng, who warned him she would sever all ties if he dared to lie to Qin Yao. At the senior year assembly, Su Muyun gave a speech as the student representative, inspiring his peers to work hard to achieve their dreams.
When the placement test results were posted, Su Muyun had a perfect score, while Su Nianfeng’s was so low she didn't even receive her paper back. Le Diyin tried to console her by revealing his own story: he was diagnosed with a serious illness as a child and told he wouldn't live long, which taught him to cherish life itself. That evening at home, Su Nianfeng broke down in tears over her results, telling Su Muyun how classmates mocked her.
Moved by her distress, he comforted her and examined her test paper. The next day in class, Su Muyun announced to the teacher that there was an error with Su Nianfeng's score. He explained that due to nervousness, she had likely submitted the wrong answer sheet, and calculated her true score should be around 102. The teacher allowed her to retake a new test of similar difficulty.
Encouraged by Su Muyun's belief in her, Su Nianfeng took the retest and scored 105, astounding her classmates and earning praise from the teacher, who credited Su Muyun's help. Su Nianfeng later thanked him, joking that his scribbled notes had somehow helped her guess every question correctly, to which he replied, "Remove the 'somehow'." The next morning, Su Muyun turned off Su Nianfeng's alarm, causing her to oversleep. As she sprinted to school, he rode up on his bicycle.
She angrily complained that she had planned to cook a huge meal to thank him the night before, but now he was acting like a devil. Unfazed, he offered her a ride on the condition that she change deskmates. She refused, calling it a "tyrannical clause." Just then, Liu Zihui ran by, and Su Muyun offered her a ride instead, which she happily accepted.
Su Nianfeng arrived late and was being scolded by the dean when Liu Zihui and Le Diyin intervened, persuading the dean to let her into class. In return for the favor, Liu Zihui asked Su Nianfeng to get Su Muyun to accept her friend request.
