Practice Daughter Episode 2 Recap
> Practice Daughter Recap
Mei Yushan and Douzi fell into a pit and swapped bodies due to the Moon Spirit Pearl, though neither fully grasped this at first. Douzi, now in Mei Yushan's body, woke up first. Finding herself agile and free, she left the area. She soon saw her three fathers – Big Head Yu, Second Father, and Third Father – running towards her carrying an unconscious woman, who was in fact Mei Yushan, now in Douzi's body.
Douzi in Mei Yushan's body stood before them, causing them to wonder who she was. The assassin Que suddenly appeared, demanding that Big Head Yu hand over the Moon Spirit Pearl. Douzi, using quick thinking in Mei Yushan's body, told Que to go away, threatening to scream, which led to a tense standoff where mutual death was threatened. Just then, Crown Prince Nangong Yao arrived.
To avoid revealing their identities and predicament, Douzi's fathers quickly pushed Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, towards the Prince. Douzi, noticing the Prince's jade pendant and desiring it, pretended to slip and tried to grab it, wrapping her arms around his clothes. Guard Xing Shi promptly appeared, ready to investigate. Prince Nangong Yao questioned "Miss Mei" (Douzi) about her whereabouts during the lunar eclipse and whether she had poisoned his wine.
Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, repeatedly explained that she had slipped and fallen into a large pit, denying any poisoning and blaming it on his sharp-voiced eunuch. The Prince seemed skeptical, finding her explanation unbelievable. Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, made several more attempts to grab his jade pendant by claiming her hand slipped, but the Prince evaded her each time. Finally, she fell heavily to the ground.
The Prince commented on her apparent clumsiness and asked why the Grand Chancellor's Residence didn't provide her with non-slip shoes. Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, was confused by the mention of the Grand Chancellor's Residence. The Prince concluded that "Mei Yushan" was either truly injured or pretending to be simple-minded, noting her vastly different demeanor in public and private, which he described as vulgar.
As the Prince prepared to leave, Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, insisted they clear things up, grabbing him. They began to wrestle, rolling on the ground. During the struggle, the Prince's backside was pricked by thorns from the roses. Guard Xing Shi reported that he had thoroughly searched the area and found no anomalies. Suddenly, a dart materialized out of thin air. Xing Shi blocked it, protecting the Prince from harm.
Amidst the chaos, Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, successfully secured the Prince's jade pendant. Feeling pleased with herself, she then realized that the Moon Spirit Pearl was missing. She guessed it must have fallen onto the Prince during their scuffle. Maid Cui entered the garden, calling for her "Miss." Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, immediately took off running. Cui and the guards chased after her. After running in a wide circle, she was finally cornered by Cui and the guards.
Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, quickly grabbed Cui, holding her hostage and ordering the guards to back off, threatening to harm Cui. Seeing "Mei Yushan" acting erratically and seemingly out of her mind, the guards decided to subdue her, knocking her unconscious before taking her back to the Grand Chancellor's Residence. Seventeen years earlier, Big Head Yu, Second Father, and Third Father robbed an escort agency.
Expecting a chest full of gold, they were surprised to find an infant girl inside. Unable to bring themselves to abandon her, they decided to raise her themselves and named her Douzi. Meanwhile, Mei Yushan, now in Douzi's body, woke up in the presence of the three men. Disoriented and seeing their disheveled appearance, she loudly demanded to know who they were and why they were there.
Big Head Yu and his brothers, seeing "Douzi" acting so strangely, assumed she was delirious from the fright she received at the museum the previous day. Mei Yushan insisted they were mocking her and threatened to report them to the authorities and have them imprisoned. The fathers worried her mind was damaged or that she was possessed, suggesting various remedies like pinching fingers or using black dog blood.
Mei Yushan mentioned needing her hands for the guqin, which the fathers dismissed, claiming her hands looked like they were used for picking cotton. They concluded she was either brain-damaged or possessed. Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, woke up in the Grand Chancellor's Residence with Cui already waiting to help her dress and prepare for entering the palace study.
Douzi, used to rough habits, accidentally drank the salt water intended for gargling and the soapy water meant for washing hands, much to Cui's confusion. When she looked in the mirror, she was startled to see herself in Mei Yushan's attire. At the same moment, Mei Yushan, in Douzi's body, also saw her reflection and realized she was in Douzi's body. Now aware of the body swap, they had no choice but to navigate their new circumstances.
Prince Nangong Yao inquired whether Mei Yushan was included in the list of candidates for the palace study arranged by the Empress. Butler Nanbei confirmed that Miss Mei was indeed the first candidate chosen by the Empress. The next day, Mei Yushan (actually Douzi in her body) went to the Guanyue Pavilion in the courtyard to relax, finding snacks already laid out. Without hesitation, she began to eat greedily, proclaiming that eating was the most important thing.
Prince Nangong Yao arrived and observed her unusual behavior with surprise. He noted how different she was from the highly cultured reputation Mei Yushan was known for, finding her strange and "vulgar" based on her actions the previous night. He questioned her about holding her maid hostage, suggesting she had a split personality.
Douzi in Mei's body claimed it was because people prevented her from going home and she was frightened, threatening to "kill" him if he brought up "last night" again, causing a humorous misunderstanding as he thought she meant the throwing knives, while she thought he meant his injured backside. She then told him he looked better when he smiled. Nangong Yao, still puzzled by her behavior, eventually left.
Leaving the Grand Chancellor's Residence, Douzi (in Mei Yushan's body) stealthily made her way back to her fathers' dwelling in Black Dog Alley. Meanwhile, Mei Yushan (in Douzi's body), uncomfortable being escorted home in a sedan chair ("a mountain boar can't eat fine bran," she thought), stopped at Huiju Grocery Store in Black Dog Alley, instructing her attendant to wait outside. It was there, in the alley, that the two swapped individuals encountered each other.
Douzi (in Mei's body) confronted Mei (in Douzi's body), accusing her of using witchcraft and demanding her body back. Mei (in Douzi's body) retorted that Douzi was the one occupying "her" body. Second Father arrived and, confused, asked Mei (in Douzi's body) who had occupied "her" body. Douzi (in Mei's body) told him it didn't concern him. They continued to argue about the cause of the swap after the fall.
As they talked, they both suddenly remembered the Moon Spirit Pearl. Douzi (in Mei's body) admitted she had lost the pearl, which immediately upset the fathers, who had stolen it. Douzi (in Mei's body) accused Mei (in Douzi's body) of haunting her by following her there. Mei (in Douzi's body) clarified she had come looking for her. Big Head Yu (First Father) misunderstood Mei (in Douzi's body)'s presence, believing she was romantically interested in him.
Douzi (in Mei's body), annoyed, revealed personal details about her fathers, such as Big Head Yu's hemorrhoids and Third Father's failed attempts at writing love letters, proving her identity. The fathers finally realized she was truly Douzi, despite her appearance. They were astonished and confused about how she had swapped bodies with the other girl. Mei (in Douzi's body) explained that the body swap had occurred after they fell. The fathers were amazed by this revelation, especially considering the lost Moon Spirit Pearl. Second Father reappeared, further adding to the commotion.
