On the night of the full moon, Mei Yushan and Douzi sat in the Museum, holding the Moon Spirit Pearl, anticipating a successful body swap. Suddenly, lightning struck, splitting the pearl in two. Douzi quickly picked up the pieces, hoping they could still work, but another bolt of lightning shattered the pearl completely. With the body swap no longer possible, Mei Yushan complained about being stuck as a maid for life, feeling cheated.

Douzi felt even more wronged, stating she had no desire to be a high-ranking lady, confined by rules and studies, missing the freedom of the bustling marketplace. Due to overwhelming state affairs, Nangong Yao was furious with his subordinates. Douzi, inhabiting Mei Yushan's body, came to speak with him, but Nangong Yao was still upset about previous matters and dismissed her.

Later, however, he pondered why she had not left the palace after the full moon night and the failed swap. At Chongwen Academy, the day's lesson required students to pair up for recitation. Huang Yuanyuan intended to group with Douzi, but Zhuang Yangyang intercepted her, mocking Douzi for only associating with the Crown Prince. By the end of the lesson, everyone except Douzi had finished their assignment, leaving her to stay late at the academy.

Nangong Yao waited daily by the entrance of Chongwen Academy. One day, he saw Douzi (in Mei Yushan's body) storm out of the academy, declaring her intention to leave the palace. Mei Yushan, in Douzi's body, followed closely, desperately trying to stop her. She argued that if Douzi, in her body, secretly left the palace, the entire Mei family would become a laughingstock, and she, left in Douzi's body inside the palace, would be in an impossible situation.

Douzi, overwhelmed, refused to listen, insisting she wanted to leave immediately to drink mutton soup and find freedom far away. Mei Yushan grabbed her to physically restrain her, and in their struggle, they both tumbled into the lake by the pavilion. Both Bai Ye and Nangong Yao happened to be nearby and simultaneously plunged into the lake to rescue them. They both swam towards the person in Mei Yushan's body (Douzi).

Bai Ye reached her first and pulled her out of the water. Nangong Yao then saw the person in Douzi's body (Mei Yushan) struggling near the bottom and rescued her. After being pulled ashore, Douzi (in Mei Yushan's body) profusely thanked Bai Ye for saving her, helping to wipe the water from his face. Bai Ye solicitously adjusted her clothing. Nangong Yao, observing this interaction, reacted with clear jealousy.

He pulled Douzi closer to him, asking why she had been so careless, suggesting she'd gotten heavier and the railing couldn't hold her. Meanwhile, Mei Yushan (in Douzi's body) lay on the ground, coughing uncontrollably. Douzi went to check on her. As Mei Yushan coughed and expelled water, a distinct mark on her neck was briefly visible. Bai Ye unintentionally saw the mark.

It seemed to trigger a memory related to the past events concerning the Shengdong kingdom, and he immediately ordered his subordinate to investigate the background of "Douzi's maid," referring to the person who was with the person he rescued. Mei Yushan, in Douzi's body, speculated that the Empress would surely not overlook the incident of Nangong Yao falling into the water and would likely punish them both.

Douzi, in Mei Yushan's body, decided to go to the Eastern Palace that evening to plead with Nangong Yao for help. While they were talking in the Eastern Palace, the Empress unexpectedly arrived. Nangong Yao quickly hid Douzi inside his bedroom. Elsewhere, Xing Shi, having noticed Bai Ye's reaction to the mark on the person in Douzi's body, worried about the "princess" (referring to the person in Mei Yushan's body).

He instructed Que to secretly place the Crown Prince's jade pendant in Mei Yushan's room to create a false impression that she was secretly in love with the Crown Prince, hoping this would lead to her expulsion from the palace. Que went to Mei Yushan's room that night to carry out the task but found Xing Shi sitting by the bed, looking concerned.

Seeing his expression, Que felt a pang of dissatisfaction that he seemed unaware of her own feelings for him. After they left, Mei Yushan's mother, having arranged entry with the eunuchs, came to the Guixiu Pavilion to visit her daughter but discovered that the person lying in the bed was not her child. In Nangong Yao's bedroom, where she was hiding, Douzi (in Mei Yushan's body) accidentally made a noise, prompting the Empress to ask who was in there.

Nangong Yao blocked her entry and made excuses. The Empress questioned if he was hiding Mei Yushan, noting the change in Mei Yushan's demeanor since entering the palace and Nangong Yao's evident protection of her. When she insisted on checking the room, Nangong Yao continued to obstruct her, attempting to distract her by suggesting they go sample new tea. Frustrated at not being allowed into the room, the Empress decided to go to the Guixiu Pavilion instead.

In the Guixiu Pavilion, Shen Feixue (Mei Yushan in Douzi's body) confronted her mother (Mei Yushan's mother). The mother did not recognize her. Shen Feixue listed several intimate details about the mother, such as hurting herself while embroidering, breaking guqin strings, cheating at cards, and only becoming animated when shopping for jewelry, asking how she could know these things if not as her daughter.

The mother was shocked and distraught, demanding to know where her daughter was and accusing Shen Feixue of hiding or harming her, even suggesting she might have dismembered her. Just as the confrontation reached a peak, the arrival of the Empress was announced. Shen Feixue warned her mother not to speak carelessly if she cared about her daughter.

The mother composed herself and greeted the Empress, explaining she had come to visit her daughter after hearing she fell into the water and was now ill. Shen Feixue lay there, feigning sickness. The Empress acknowledged hearing about the fall and stated she had come to see Mei Yushan, insisting she needed to see and speak with her to feel at ease, despite the mother's attempts to deter her, citing the risk of infection.

Meanwhile, back in the Eastern Palace, Bai Ye and Nangong Yao discussed the rescue. Nangong Yao playfully teased Bai Ye about having taken the woman he was interested in. Bai Ye clarified he was joking earlier, acknowledging Nangong Yao had also been coming to his aid. He remarked that if Nangong Yao hadn't been there, he wouldn't have been able to save them both.

Bai Ye then revealed a secret: the person he saved was the one Nangong Yao had wanted to save. He described her as witty and intelligent, believing she and Nangong Yao made a good match, and suggested that since she was in the palace, Nangong Yao should take responsibility for her care. Nangong Yao readily agreed, stating that everything concerning her in the palace would now be his sole responsibility. Nangong Yao then offered Bai Ye the Goji berry and ginger soup that had been prepared for him, and they shared it.
