Pegasus Episode 4 Recap
> Pegasus Recap
Lin Zhendong tried to prevent Zhang Chi from participating in the Master Racing Rally Invitational. While trying to get a ride after Zhang Chi sped off, Li Aoduo from Master Racing team found him and challenged him to a race at his club. Lin Zhendong accepted, proposing that if he won, Master Racing would stop bothering Zhang Chi about their invitational. They raced on the track. Xiaohe and others secretly watched.
Lin Zhendong drove steadily, while Li Aoduo, initially ahead, ultimately lost to Lin Zhendong. Xiaohe's group noted that Lin Zhendong's driving technique strongly resembled Zhang Chi's. After the race, Lin Zhendong pointed out several technical errors in Li Aoduo's driving, leaving Li Aoduo bewildered that an amateur was criticizing a professional racer. Lin Zhendong then took the Master Racing Invitational invitation letter for Speeding Racing, stating they would not be participating and wished Master Racing well.
Rushing back to the team, Lin Zhendong gathered Ye Gong, Zhang Chi, and Li Xiaohe. He urgently explained that Zhang Chi must not participate in the Master Racing Invitational because he would break his leg. This injury would not only affect his performance in next year's Chinese Rally Championship but crucially cause him to miss out on a spot for the Dakar Rally that the FASC would be funding for one driver.
Ye Gong and Zhang Chi were skeptical, stating they had no plans for Dakar. Lin Zhendong insisted the FASC would support one driver next year. Despite his earnest explanation, Ye Gong wanted to dismiss him. To show his sincerity and prevent future disruptions from his other personality, Lin Zhendong offered to serve as Zhang Chi's personal assistant, handling tasks like bringing him tea and water. Zhang Chi expressed distrust because Lin Zhendong often went back on his word.
Lin Zhendong then pulled Zhang Chi into a room, stating he had a way to prevent such issues. They emerged later talking and laughing. Upon leaving the room, Lin Zhendong saw Weiyi on her phone and urged her to break up with a man he called a "Cancer sign scumbag," saying she wasn't thinking clearly. Seeing her hesitate, he grabbed her phone to warn the man directly.
However, a woman nearby, Shen Xiting, mistook him for a phone robber and swiftly took him down using taekwondo. This triggered a rapid heart rate response in Lin Zhendong, indicating a shift in consciousness. Lin Zhendong woke up disoriented. Weiyi explained that she was texting her roommate, Shen Xiting, not the man, and was surprised that Shen Xiting knew taekwondo. Lin Zhendong recognized Shen Xiting as the traffic cop he had recently encountered. Limping, he left the scene.
Later, experiencing memory loss again, he asked Hong Kuo if he had done anything unusual that day, and was relieved to hear he hadn't. The following day, he visited a psychologist, describing his episodes of memory loss and the return of childhood memories when thinking about Zhang Chi.
He confessed that he gave up karting partly to accommodate others and that playing karting had led to the loss of his father, which was the reason he stopped racing as a child. Zhang Chi called Lin Zhendong, asking him to meet at a film studio, and teasing him for being late on his first day as an assistant.
Lin Zhendong, in his current state, insisted he would not be Zhang Chi's assistant, regardless of any prior agreement, and announced he was there to resign. Zhang Chi, having anticipated this due to the memory loss, showed Lin Zhendong a video of himself enthusiastically agreeing to be Zhang Chi's personal assistant, even using his ID as a guarantee. Lin Zhendong was astonished by the video of his other personality's behavior.
When he went to smash the phone, Zhang Chi quickly snatched it back, threatening to post the video online if Lin Zhendong didn't work as his assistant. Lin Zhendong reluctantly complied, demonstrating his meticulousness by presenting Zhang Chi with various types of milk and sugar for coffee and specific brewing instructions, daring him to find fault with his performance.
Later, at the studio, Mr. Lu from Taipu'er Tires, a great admirer of Zhang Chi, expressed his strong desire to personally test drive Zhang Chi's racing car. Zhang Chi immediately refused, explaining the significant difference between professional racing cars and civilian vehicles, and the inherent safety risks for someone without a racing license. Mr. Lu became agitated, dismissing the car as a "broken car" and insulting Zhang Chi and his team, offering to pay if he damaged it.
Lin Zhendong stepped in to mediate the situation. He agreed to let Mr. Lu drive but required him to sign a disclaimer and provide ID photos for insurance, implying the team was careful. He then quietly informed Mr. Lu that the car was damaged from the last race and, while it could run, there was a risk of a broken axle, suggesting caution.
Mr. Lu, who had boasted to his friends about driving the car, became hesitant, finding it too dangerous. Lin Zhendong proposed an alternative plan: Mr. Lu would wear the team uniform and pose for photos in front of the car, then Zhang Chi would drive a couple of laps, and finally, Mr. Lu would take a photo holding the steering wheel to post online, creating the illusion that he had driven. Mr. Lu found this idea perfect and agreed immediately.
The filming for the advertisement proceeded, but Zhang Chi objected to certain lines in the script. The ad company was reluctant to change it, citing prior approvals. Lin Zhendong intervened, countering the ad company's threat of a breach of contract by pointing out their own negligence in not properly coordinating the script with the team beforehand. He highlighted the power of Taipu'er's legal department and suggested the ad company would face a lawsuit.
The ad company representative quickly apologized, admitted their oversight, and asked if it could be salvaged. Lin Zhendong told him Zhang Chi was still there and advised him to apologize. The filming concluded successfully. The ad company representative praised the Speeding Racing team, acknowledging that with someone like Lin Zhendong, they could go far. Lin Zhendong reflected that Zhang Chi wasn't as annoying as he thought and considered trying to accept the team.
That evening, despite being tired, Lin Zhendong decided to hold a review meeting. Using a presentation he created during filming breaks, he discussed the team's workflow efficiency and future development based on industry trends. He argued that formalizing their processes could achieve commercial value equivalent to larger teams like Master Racing. Ye Gong questioned if this would guarantee winning the championship again and securing enough budget for car modifications.
Lin Zhendong confidently stated that both were achievable if Zhang Chi and the team rigorously followed his proposed training and time management methods, adding that sufficient funds would be the least of their worries. Zhang Chi then asked who their next target would be. Lin Zhendong presented the Master Racing Rally Invitational as a perfect opportunity to defeat Wei Qianli again. Zhang Chi became excited and immediately submitted the team's registration form for the race.
The next day, Lin Zhendong woke up, realizing another day had passed. He arrived at the club to find it empty. Xiaohe was the first to arrive, followed by Ye Gong and Sun Yuqiang. Xiaohe announced a new rule, effective from yesterday: being late would incur a 300 yuan deduction. Even Xiaohe, who lived at the club, was fined for not being on time with the others.
They started their training, following rigorous plans that had evidently been set the night before. Lin Zhendong arrived and saw the attendance sheets and the signed registration form for the Master Racing Invitational. He realized his other personality had not only created the strict new routines but also signed Zhang Chi up for the very race he initially wanted to prevent.
He explained to the team that he had a form of personality disorder and urged them to learn to distinguish between his states. He immediately told Zhang Chi to cancel his registration. Zhang Chi and the others refused, reminding him that it had been a collective decision the previous night, and he himself had agreed.
