Out Of The Dream Episode 5 Recap
> Out Of The Dream Recap
Following a pivotal opera performance where Yu Fei captivated audiences, tragedy struck as her mother passed away. This loss was compounded by Bai Feili's perceived abandonment of Yu Fei during a critical moment when she was confronted by thugs, which left her to face danger alone.
Three months later, Bai Feili is consumed by guilt and a desperate search for Yu Fei, while his Jiubai Studio struggles, as he refuses to compromise artistic integrity for commercial projects like "Dragon Scale," despite the team's dire financial state. Amidst this, Yu Fei, having lost everything, finds herself fearless and has moved to Shanghai, aspiring to become a celebrated opera star by studying for a new opera school entrance exam.
A mysterious woman, who paid Yu Fei's mother's hospital bills, revealed her cruel intention to make Yu Fei suffer, only to find Yu Fei undeterred by further pain. In Shanghai, Brother Dao, who accompanied Yu Fei, finds himself working at X Club, handing out flyers. He strikes up a conversation with a college student who claims to have lost his keys and is now "experiencing life."
The student fabricates a story about X Club's shuttle bus being the only way home, and despite Brother Dao's initial suspicions, they bond over their shared experiences and become friends. Meanwhile, Yu Fei is working diligently at a hotpot restaurant, collecting plates and aspiring to learn martial arts from a chef. Her efforts are interrupted by the restaurant manager, who reminds her to focus on her duties.
In the kitchen, she spots a coworker watching a livestream from Shandengting, featuring her junior apprentice showcasing daily rehearsals at the opera house, where her senior, Lanting, is teaching. This sight stirs a mix of emotions in Yu Fei, who has been away from her troupe. At a fountain rumored to grant wishes, Bai Feili tosses a coin, hoping to encounter "her" again.
Across the fountain, he spots Yu Fei, who is also making a heartfelt wish to her late mother: to become a celebrated opera star, even without returning to Shandengting. Bai Feili approaches her, promising to help her fulfill this dream, but Yu Fei, startled, attempts to flee. He manages to catch her, questioning if she seeks the character Liu Xichan or the person Yan Peishan. A lengthy chase ensues, leaving both exhausted.
When Bai Feili's shoelaces come undone, he refuses to tie them, fearing Yu Fei's escape. Yu Fei ultimately kneels to tie them for him, but mischievously knots both laces together, causing him to trip and allowing her to make her escape, inadvertently dropping her admission form. Yu Fei seeks refuge in Shuji's shop, a mutual friend of both, but Bai Feili soon follows, holding Yu Fei's dropped admission form, which he insists on returning.
Yu Fei, exasperated, tells him to leave it on a table, but when he threatens to tear the document, she emerges. At that moment, Shuji locks the front door from the outside, trapping them inside. Bai Feili, frustrated by the lack of Wi-Fi, tries to explain he has an important investor meeting that night and suggests postponing their personal conflict. Yu Fei, however, remains deeply resentful, reminding him of a past incident where he left her in danger.
After a heated exchange, Yu Fei points to a hidden door behind a stack of books as an exit. As Bai Feili starts to move the books, he accuses her of having Stockholm syndrome. Simultaneously, Guan Jiu is in a desperate attempt to maintain a crucial investor meeting for "Dragon Scale." She tries every tactic to stall, from telling jokes to playing music demos, but the impatient investors depart due to Bai Feili's unexpected absence.
Her former junior, Jiajun, further dampens her spirits, candidly reminding her that "dreams don't provide financial support" and urging her to acknowledge her financial struggles. Yu Fei leads Bai Feili to what she sarcastically calls an "emergency safe room" in Shuji's shop. Inside, Bai Feili recognizes a suit that Yu Fei had pulled down during a past incident, and they recall previous events.
He confronts her about withholding her real name, to which she replies that "Liu Xichan" was sufficient for his purposes. Bai Feili sincerely apologizes for his past actions, expressing empathy for her feelings of betrayal and the pain of not being with her mother in her final moments. Yu Fei accepts his apology but demands that he stop pursuing her, hoping they can finally go their separate ways.
Bai Feili hesitates, mentioning he still possesses her bracelet, an item he believes holds significant sentimental value, symbolizing companionship. Seeking further retribution, Yu Fei cunningly points to a window as their escape route. As Bai Feili begins to climb out, she quickly unlocks the main door from the outside, locks him back inside, and exits, declaring that this act will make him understand how she felt. Bai Feili is left infuriated but is later freed by Shuji.
Back at the studio, Guan Jiu confronts Bai Feili, seething with anger over his absence, which jeopardized their "Dragon Scale" project. Bai Feili apologizes and promises to find a solution for "Dragon Scale." He then announces his new project, "South Song 2: Dream of the South Song," which he believes will bring greater artistic integrity and financial success, freeing the team from commercial compromises. Guan Jiu is highly skeptical, noting his past reluctance to even re-stage the original "South Song."
She reveals that the studio's hamster, Cang, is gravely ill, symbolizing Jiubai Studio's precarious state. She emphasizes that "Dragon Scale" is their last hope, warning that without it, the upcoming Suzhou Comic Con will mark both Jiubai's debut and its final performance. Bai Feili acknowledges her concerns but insists he has his own strategic considerations.
While Yu Fei works at a coffee shop, Hao Shi, working on a group assignment, discovers that Yu Fei had locked Bai Feili up the previous night, causing him to miss a critical meeting. He warns her that this blunder could lead to the studio's collapse. Yu Fei remains unrepentant, angering Hao Shi, who reveals he has been covering for her, falsely telling others she was at Shandengting.
Their conversation is interrupted by Hao Shi's classmates, who mock and bully him, ordering expensive drinks which they expect him to pay for, affecting his mother's allowance for him. Yu Fei intervenes, splashing a drink on them. She then makes a special spicy drink, which she tricks them into trying, and fiercely defends Hao Shi, recounting instances of his past bullying and declaring herself his protective "sister." The bullies quickly retreat.
At Jiubai Studio, as the team is busy with product placements, Bai Feili announces a halt to current projects to initiate "South Song 2: Dream of the South Song." Before he can fully address "Dragon Scale," Guan Jiu quickly interjects, declaring that the studio will no longer pursue it, citing it as "too commercial." This news visibly disappoints the staff, with one member lamenting the loss of an opportunity to pay a year's rent.
Guan Jiu tries to ease the tension by offering to treat everyone to a meal, implying that the decision was hers. Brother Dao calls Yu Fei, who is still washing dishes at her restaurant. He expresses concern for her hands, deemed precious for opera, and offers his financial support, which Yu Fei politely declines, citing her need to earn money for rent, exam fees, and debts.
Her manager then scolds Brother Dao for making a personal call, reminding him of sales targets and potential termination. To meet his quota and impress a client named Wei Sir, Brother Dao and his college student friend, Wei Shao, dress in women's clothes for a performance. During this, Wei Shao receives an unexpected video call from his father, Old Tian Zong, who believes he is abroad studying.
Quick-thinking Brother Dao helps Wei Shao create a fake background, fabricating a story about financial street research and thesis writing after a workout, successfully deceiving his father. Wei Shao's father warns him against alcohol and trouble. After the call, Wei Shao praises Brother Dao as the most resourceful salesman he knows, crediting him with saving his living expenses, and orders more drinks. Later, Yu Fei visits a sushi convenience store for discounted sushi.
Bai Feili appears, attempting to purchase the second discounted box, but Yu Fei coolly rebuffs him, paying full price for her single box. Bai Feili, buying both, offers one to Yu Fei as an apology for wasting her time yesterday. Yu Fei accepts but insists he join her, stating that wasted time must be repaid with time. As they eat, Bai Feili, allergic to eel, tries to trade his eel sushi for her cucumber sushi.
Yu Fei playfully teases him about his inability to use chopsticks, suggesting a pampered upbringing. He clarifies that he is merely an office worker, asking her to shed her preconceived notions. She then directly questions his persistent, almost compromising efforts to cast her as Liu Xichan. Bai Feili begins to explain that he needs to clarify some things but accidentally spills sauce.
While he steps away to buy tissues, Yu Fei's coworker, Da Ge, drops by, voicing concerns about her long hours and Jiubai Studio's lack of projects, which he dismissively calls her "interest group." Bai Feili, returning, overhears their conversation, learning about the struggles his team members and Yu Fei are facing due to his artistic pursuits. He is overcome with guilt, realizing his pursuit of "100% purity" has led to his colleagues enduring hardship in silence. Yu Fei, sensing his distress, gently reassures him not to be too self-reproaching, suggesting that embracing change might not always be a bad thing.
