Out Of The Dream Episode 4 Recap
> Out Of The Dream Recap
On the day of the formal performance, Yu Fei arrived late to find the venue in disarray, with the stage setup, props, and costumes damaged. Accused by the other troupe members of being responsible, Yu Fei was told that all the intricate work, from the week-long poster design to the two months spent on props and half a year on costume drafts, was now ruined.
They insisted she was the only one who could have done it, as she and the boss were the only ones there the previous night. Yu Fei dismissed their accusations, urging them to focus on salvaging the situation instead of wasting time on speculation, as the show was about to begin.
Yu Fei immediately called Hao Shi, who was at a comic convention, and threatened to expose all his secret comic-hiding spots to his mother if he didn't mend Liu Xichan's damaged costume within thirty minutes. Hao Shi reluctantly agreed to try. Meanwhile, the troupe members had already decided that Guan Jiu would replace Yu Fei, dressing her in a sample costume, despite Guan Jiu's protests that she was unprepared.
Just as Yu Fei, holding the mended costume, prepared to step down, Bai Feili intervened. He stopped her, insisting that she perform and stating his belief that she was innocent of the sabotage. The other members protested vehemently, calling Yu Fei a traitor and demanding she not be allowed on stage, but Bai Feili firmly took the costume, declaring he wouldn't regret his decision, a sentiment Yu Fei echoed.
Yu Fei then took the stage, captivating the audience with her stunning performance, blending both singing and martial arts. During her act, she missed urgent calls from her aunt, who was trying to reach her from the hospital. Her mother, Yan Peishan, was undergoing emergency resuscitation, her condition critical with multiple notices issued for family signature. Despite her mother's struggle, Yu Fei’s performance earned thunderous applause, leaving the audience and even the skeptical troupe members in awe.
However, after the successful show, Yu Fei collapsed on stage, feeling an ominous premonition. Outside the venue, a data-driven discussion revealed that Yu Fei had surpassed Lingjiu in popularity. A project investor, Mr. Zhang, withdrew his support from Lingjiu's project based on these real-time metrics, prompting Lingjiu’s manager to quickly offer a collaboration involving Jiubai Studio's new talent.
Backstage, Guan Jiu found Bai Feili, who shared his intention to re-arrange "South Song" following the performance, acknowledging Yu Fei was the perfect choice for Liu Xichan, praising her versatile skills. Suddenly, Yu Fei received another frantic call and rushed out, with Bai Feili following her. On the street, Yu Fei was cornered by Jiubai's enemy and his men, who tried to entice her to join their studio with offers of double or triple Bai Feili's pay.
Yu Fei vehemently refused, calling him "filthy" and dismissing his offers. When Jiubai's enemy callously asked if she was rushing to a reincarnation or a funeral, Yu Fei, enraged, slapped him. This provoked his men to attack her, but Brother Dao bravely intervened, urging Yu Fei to leave. He was then ambushed and injured. Witnessing this, Yu Fei grabbed some paint and splashed it on the attackers, then helped the bleeding Brother Dao escape.
They spotted Bai Feili in his car, and Yu Fei tried to get his attention, but upon seeing Brother Dao’s blood, Bai Feili froze and almost lost consciousness. Yu Fei quickly hailed a taxi to take Brother Dao to the hospital. Despite Brother Dao's insistence that she go to her mother first, Yu Fei brought him in, leaving him with nurses before rushing to the emergency room.
The elevator stopped, forcing her to run up multiple flights of stairs, but she arrived too late. The doctor announced Yan Peishan's death at 6:30 PM. Overwhelmed, Yu Fei collapsed by her mother's bedside, remembering her mother's words describing a "little girl" as the freest fish, caught by no one. As Yu Fei walked despondently through the hospital corridor, a woman approached, revealing she had paid her mother's hospital bills.
When Yu Fei asked the amount to repay, the woman coldly stated that one shouldn't ask for the sum if they can't afford it. She then revealed she helped Yu Fei out of spite, wanting Yu Fei to suffer because Yan Peishan had been with her husband before their marriage and later appeared during her happiest time. The woman declared her intent to ensure Yu Fei would "never hold her head up for a lifetime," just like her mother.
Yu Fei defiantly retorted, questioning if this was a life she chose, lamenting her childhood without a father and now without a mother, declaring that a person who has lost her mother fears nothing. Shortly after, Bai Feili arrived at the hospital. A nurse informed him of Yan Peishan's death, causing him to faint.
He had mistakenly thought Yu Fei's name was Yan Peishan and only realized Yan Peishan was Yu Fei's mother—and learned Yu Fei's true name—from the nurse's explanation. Three months later, Hao Shi arrived at his dream workplace, Jiubai Studio in Shanghai.
He marveled at its unique design and the newspaper article detailing Bai Feili's mysterious fainting incident and how "South Song" was shelved as Bai Feili searched for the "one person" he believed could play Liu Xichan, mistakenly looking for "Yan Peishan." Other studio members pressed Hao Shi for information about "Yan Peishan's" whereabouts, believing he knew the truth about her departure and wanting to apologize.
Hao Shi maintained his ignorance, but eventually, he offered Guan Jiu a clue: the Shandengting troupe. Meanwhile, a deep divide existed within Jiubai Studio. While everyone wanted to work on the "Dragon Scale" project, Bai Feili consistently refused, believing Jiubai should be original creators, not mere executors of others' pre-planned visions. Guan Jiu reminded him that the studio needed projects to survive, especially after three months of inactivity.
She confronted Bai Feili, asking if he was searching for the character of Liu Xichan or the person Yan Peishan. Bai Feili corrected her, stating he was looking for Yu Fei, the only person who truly understood Liu Xichan, whose return was essential to restart the "South Song" series. Guan Jiu agreed to tell him Hao Shi's clue if Bai Feili would meet the "Dragon Scale" investors that night at the Shandengting troupe.
Despite having visited Shandengting many times without success, Bai Feili agreed, still determined to find Yu Fei. Yu Fei had moved into a new home in Shanghai and was settling in with Wang Zhongqiang. He expressed his protectiveness, warning her about the safety of keeping keys on the doorstep and gifting her a potted plant, symbolizing rootedness and longevity, in contrast to transient cut flowers.
He recounted her lifelong habit of moving with just a single suitcase, emphasizing her independent spirit. Wang Zhongqiang, now a "big salesman" at the X Club, Shanghai's largest entertainment venue, offered to support her, but Yu Fei insisted on working at Laoqi Restaurant to earn money while pursuing her dreams. Her true ambition was to enroll in a drama school in Shanghai to fulfill her late mother's wish: to "break the cloud and become famous."
She declared her unwavering commitment, saying, "If I leave for good, then I'm leaving for good." Wang Zhongqiang drove her to work on his electric scooter, which he found more practical for Shanghai's congested roads, reminding her not to forget her drama school admission ticket. He was later reprimanded by his manager for low sales and warned to improve quickly or be fired, but a new colleague offered to help him.
